We were visiting one of our suppliers in the Nortwest suburbs and decided to try Big Ange's Eatery. WOW! We arrived after 2pm and there were few people in the small seating area. The smell of quality smoked meats was, but a hint of what was to come. We had the Smoked Tri-tip sandwich, a side of hand-cut French-fries, and a lemonade. The food was exceptional! The tantalizing flavors of the melt-in-your-mouth Tri-tip were Out-of-this-World (nearly heavenly). The hand-cut fries were perfectly cooked & lightly salted - oh so tasty! Blown away by this place. First for a counter service place, you get customer service better than most high end restaurants. All the staff is kind, outgoing and asking how they can help you. The counter clerk/cashier learned we were first timers and took the time to go over the menu and share some amazing samples of the meat. The tri tip was mind blowing. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again. We got the ribs, tri tip, brisket, coleslaw and French fries. They were all top notch. Incredible! Not only was the food fantastic, but the hospitality by employees like Bobby put the restaurant over the top. Should be 6 stars. We went overboard and tried the brisket, Reuben sandwich, porchetta sandwich, sausage links, pulled pork, mac, and fries. Talk about a meat coma after. The real standout was the porchetta sandwich. Incredibly juicy meat on a hoagie that was perfect for absorbing all the gravy. Brisket and the Reuben were maybe next in line. Beautiful bark on the brisket with a perfectly rendered sliver of fat in between the bark and the meat. Perfection! The fries left with the skin on were so good paired with the cheese sauce. The Mac was a little lackluster and I felt the pulled pork is just not worth getting when the porchetta is the star of the show. What a local gem. I have seen Big Ange's for a few years when I take the Metra UP-NW going downtown and have always thought it was a cute place and worth a try. Today was my first visit and we were NOT disappointed. I went with my sister and a friend. We had the smoked Tri-Tip Sandwich (smoked sirloin) with crispy onion strings, the Reuben sandwich (smoked pastrami) -- both piled high with delicious, tender and flavorful meat! The Reuben was even better than Manny's! (yeah. THAT good!); just be aware that the pastrami is thickly cut (not thinly sliced!). My friend had the meatball hoagie and it was delicious too! We also ordered the homemade creamy thick-cut coleslaw and onion rings that were crispy and delicious! When we found out their ice cream was made from scratch IN-HOUSE, we couldn't resist trying their homemade shakes (chocolate and vanilla!). We had the vanilla with 'the works' on it -- whipped cream, cherries AND a vanilla wafer! When we asked what the layer was at the bottom of the shake, they told us it was vanilla! We used the thick straw they gave us to get to the bottom and the flavor combination was just magical! :) We also tried the eggplant parmesan. The eggplant was moist, flavorful and delicious with just the right amount of sauce and the portions for all were HUGE!!! Definitely worth the price! Everything we ate was heaven! Did I mention they also make their own homemade orange-lemonade from scratch?!? Woah! We sat outside at the tables -- they have a small but very cute patio -- and it was a perfect day to sit outside and enjoy our meal! We also met all the owners: Big Ange herself -- who is NOT big at all! :) --, Johnny her husband and their son Rocco! They were all pleasant, engaging, and happy to know it was our first visit! And their staff was just as friendly (shout-out to Bobby!) They even told us they would be introducing salads soon (and would be serving a southwest avocado ranch dressing and a homemade creamy balsamic vinaigrette both which sound amazing!) and they will be getting their liquor license approved soon -- all within a few short weeks! We finally decided to stop in and try Big Ange's. It is pretty small inside and parking can be tricky. There is plenty of parking across the street though. The service was outstanding from the moment we entered. We had a minor issue with our order that they went way above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers. That alone would bring me back. The other thing that will bring us back is the food. The brisket and sausage were absolutely delicious. My little one loved their burgers. He couldn't stop raving about how great they are. He said he liked the burger much better than Au Cheval. We also had the porchetta sandwich, this was also very good. The prices are also very reasonable. Not the cheapest but far from the expensive end. The staff also kept the area clean and making sure to check on all the guests. The only negative I will say is that it will be difficult to bring in a large group. But that won't stop us from trying though. Between the service and the food this is a definite go to spot in our rotation. read more

I just happened to pass by this place and caught my eye since it looked like a ma and pa bbq joint. The brisket was really good - moist, tender, smoky, and even had some burnt ends (even though they told me they didn't have burnt ends when ordering). I ordered for dinner, and most bbq places i know run out of brisket before lunch, so I was glad I could still find a place that served it later into the day. The rib tips were just ok...a little bit thick and saucy but got great reviews from others, so maybe this is preference thing. My first visit was fantastic. We showed up around opening and people were arriving in bunches. Great super friendly staff. I ordered their smoked pastrami on rye. This sandwich blew me away by how delicious it is. It's so tender and melts in your mouth. It's one of those food items that after the first bite it tastes so good you want to immediately slow down and savor it. They smoke it bbq style which produces a really unique flavor. It's comparable and on some level better than Manny's of Chicago and Katz of NY and any place in California. I had the haystack onions and they are amazing. Unique menu that mixes barbecue like ribs and pulled chicken to Vienna products and Italian sandwiches like Italian beef sausage meatball and eggplant. The parking is a little tight but you can park across the street in the big lot. This is truly a must try food experience. I can't wait to go back and try other things. The staff are definitely there for the customers and we will look forward to our next visit. By the way before lunch was ready they came around and offered samples of their smoked sausage and that knocked my socks off. We saw a review of this place on Instagram, so we figured we would try it. As we entered we were greeted by friendly employees who promptly gave us samples of brisket and Tri-tip. We ordered one of each sandwich and split them and an orange lemonade. Both sandwiches came piled with delicious smoked meat, which didn't need sauce at all. We split an order of cheese fries, which were also delicious. Next time I probably would hold the cheese as it was nacho cheese sauce that's typically served at a bowling alley or baseball game. Finally got a chance to stop by Big Anges after driving past it for years! This is the cutest family owned place and they have a wall of picture of local Chicago musicians and bands! We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, a Rueben, haystack onion strings, fries, and lemonade. This was THE BEST pulled pork I have ever had in my life. Whatever seasoning they use is incredible and it was an enormous sandwich. The Reuben was huge as well and delicious, I did ask for more thousand island but that's just a personal preference. The owner was incredibly welcoming and friendly and chatted us up about music and bands for a while. He then let us try the rib tips which were soo good. The lemonade recipe is from his grandmother and is super refreshing and just the right amount of sweet. Awesome sandwich spot located in Arlington Heights Illinois. Great and warm staff upon walking in. The owner and staff here are awesome and so down to earth. I asked for onion straws on my pastrami sandwich and he didn't even charge me. One of the workers made a extra mac n cheese and he came out asking everyone if anyone wanted a feee mac n cheese. The people here in chicago are so down to earth and so different then people in New York. Great all around experience. This place is the truth! They are apparently famous for the brisket, and for good reason. $12.95 might sound steep for a sandwich, but then again they cram an entire weekend's worth of protein into that bad boy. And it tastes great! I didn't care for the rib tips. For $7.95, I expect more than four, although they are large as rip tips go. The meat was hit or miss from bite to bite. But my biggest complaint is that they were savagely drowned in sauce that tasted like it came from a 40-gallon drum. Pepsi products in the fountain, but no Diet Dr Pepper. Service is great though. When we said it was our first time the server/chef told us all about the menu and encouraged us to try free samples of it all. So my friend and I did. I had the brisket! I've been here several times and every time I visit I realize how much I miss the old Jimmy's Hot Dogs that used to be here. Big Anges is barbecue and standard hot dogs and burgers, but they do them the Big Ange's way which I am not a big fan of. Burgers don't come with lettuce or tomatoes. They have a few red onions chopped up, maybe a tablespoon worth and they bury them under the patties. Burgers come with a special sauce which is fine, but I'd rather have the option to get ketchup and mustard if I want to. Hot Dogs automatically come with fries. If you don't ask for crispy fries you get really limp and kind of oily fries. I like fries but I don't always want them. I just want to get a couple of hot dogs most of the time without a double order of fries attached. I'd definitely go for Portillo's or Johnnies Beef for Italian beef. Anges was okay but not near as good as the competition. They have barbecue sandwiches which are nicely done so if barbecue is your thing, Big Anges does that well. If you get a barbecue sandwich and fries and a drink, you are easily in the $20+ range. I'd rather go to a nice sit-down restaurant for that kind of money. On a humorous note, my son and I drove in for some carry-out last week. He called from the car when we were at Lake/Cook and route 53. We wanted to get in and get out quickly. They answered the phone and said to wait. My son could hear the whole conversation the folks working at Big Anges were having but they never got around to responding to the call. We walked in 10 minutes later and my son had the phone to his ear. When they asked to take his order in person he said to wait a second, he was on the phone with Big Anges! They all had a good laugh and even comped us a small cole slaw, which oddly was kind of salty. Big Anges is super popular and people love the food!
