This shop has been around for 12 years and I came across it just recently. I was in the area looking for grabbing lunch and Dario's showed up on my search. Out of curiosity, I decided to check it out. Located across from the railroad tracks and near the Metra station, Dario's is a local institution that serves up tasty sandwiches and more. I liked their sandwiches options on the menu. The variety was good. I ordered their Fiesta Panini that's made with pulled pork, habañero aioli, muenster cheese, red peppers, red onions, and avocado. I wanted something to drink and I saw that they have homemade lemonade with cool, different flavors. I got me a small Guava Lemonade. My panini was freshly prepared. It had a good flavor w/ a nice kick of heat from the habañero aioli (but not spicy in the typical habañero flavor sense). The pulled pork was delicious in taste and texture along with the toppings of muenster cheese, the habañero aioli, red peppers, red onions, and avocado. I should've eaten only one half of the sandwich but I couldn't resist having more, so I finished it. The panini was darn delicious. I liked the restaurant's cozy dining area with outside light coming in. They have a nice patio area as well which would be perfect to sit at on a nice weather day. The good about Dario's is the food. I was surprised and thought the sandwich and salad I had was really good! Haven't had a panini like that in a minute. However, my issue is that I went in with one other person and we ordered two paninis and two cans of sprite (one of each for each of us), with one salad bowl to share. It was $55 dollars after tax. Maybe it's me but it seems like a lot. The service isn't really a question here. It's not bad. They call your name, you grab your food, and bus your own table when you're done. Pretty standard. However, If they did that for you, the price wouldn't bother me as much because thats a proper service. To talk a bit about the restaurant itself, it's small with more space to eat outside than inside, but thats just lovely right now in the summer. The place looks clean too. They had complimentary coffee which was nice. The staff are reasonably young. Probably late high school or freshmen in college but that doesn't mean they can't do a good job. Overall, I don't know if I'd recommend this place to everyone. Im conflicted. I like big portions and quality foods of course, and this was great in flavor, just pricey. To reference the surrounding area, I can go here, or to Emits across the street which is consider the finest dining in downtown Palatine past the Argentinean Bendita and Bella Pizza, and spend around the same amount of money. Ate here a few months ago and they are under new ownership. Unfortunately the Cuban sandwich is not the same. They changed something about it and not for the better. I do not feel the draw to come back. read more

Just had a chicken breast focaccia sandwich which was sloppily assembled, not sliced in half and a mess to eat!! In addition, their prices have gone thru the roof. We have been past customers but will probably take a pass in the future. Disappointing!! read more

This place used to be amazing and my go to lunch spot but the last few times I've ordered food-- it's been awful. I'm not sure if they changed owners or of the owner is just no longer cooking but the quality of how the food is prepared has dropped. They put a brown avocado in my salad-- couldn't even eat any of the avocado it was that bad and today I got a panini and there was a long piece of black hair in it-- YUCK. Good place in a convenient location in Palatine downtown. Dario's is pretty close to the Metra station. It has sandwiches and that's pretty much all they have there. Good ones, not ones from corporate chains. There's not a whole lot for vegetarians, but they can customize a few sandwiches. Came in and got a wrap to eat inside. It's about $9 for a sandwich. That's a pretty good price for the size of these. A lot of the menu is meaty. The Chipotle Hummus Wrap comes with chicken, but I got it with avocado though. Free of charge, which made sense of course. It also has grilled red onions, lettuce, and roasted peppers. Ended up being a good substitute with avocado. This I could get again because it was pretty cheap and a big lunch. Has quite a few sandwiches to choose from. It has inside and more outside seating. There's ways to get substitutes on sandwiches such as avocado to make it okay for vegans and vegetarians. read more

A hidden gem in downtown Palatine! It's a small place serving one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Got the Cubano and the meat was extremely tender and flavorful. It had a perfect balance of richness from the meat and cheese and acidity from the pickles. The bread was crisp yet not hard and had the good crunch. The chopped chicken salad was also good with an extremely large portion size. Had a good amount of chicken and bacon and the avocado a perfect addition. It's been a long time we've been blown away by a food joint let alone a homey sandwich shop next to the Palatine train station, but we're dreaming about the next time we can go back. We had the Cubano and Club. Everything from the freshly sliced seasoned meat, warm soft bread, medley of flavors, to the sweet hardworking staff. I came across Dario's on March 5 while wandering through downtown Palatine, enjoying the weather and exploring new restaurants to try. I'm so glad we chose Dario's! The place is tiny, but offers a nice selection of wraps, paninis and salads. I made my selection while I waited to order at the counter, but when I reached the register, there was a sign advertising a 1/2 sandwich and soup lunch special, so I quickly changed my mind. I ordered the Southwest Chicken Panini and a cup of soup. As I wrote this a week later, the soup is not at all memorable, but that sandwich was amazing! It was packed full of flavor and they served me a full-sized sandwich, which was a pleasant surprise. It was a very good lunch, and I'd definitely order it again, but try a different soup. My friend ordered a salad that was also very big and delicious. The only thing I'd change is to not have the food served in takeout containers for those dining in. I have been a "Dario's" fan and now I'm a super fan. A friend and I ate there today and it was actually MORE delicious. I got my usual Caprese Sandwich, chips and guacamole... The food was amazingly yummy, the guac was "homemade" delicious and the service was great. It's a cozy downtown Palatine location, walking distance to the train and the quaint downtown area. I usually love Darios and I think they are generous with their portions but I ordered a salad today and was a but disappointed. $15 for a chopped chicken salad. It has barely any tomato or avocado. It also included some large, hard chunks of lettuce which I don't think should be included in the salad. I might have to stick to the wraps and sandwiches which appear to be better value for what is given. read more

I completely love this place every time I go here I like that they fill my sandwich and at the end of my meal I feel full instead of going to Subway or any other chain where I don't feel full after a sandwich I recommend it because it's a good price as well and they give you a drink with your meal. I've also tried their salads and they are very big and have a filling feeling after eating those as well. The only downside is that they close early. read more

Amazing Cubano sandwich that will fill you up. That sandwich alone has had me going back there consistently. The paninis are quality as well. I wish they had a bigger selection of soups on the daily. Cozy place for sure that feels very homey. The only reason it lost a star from me is because they are only open 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. So let's say you are someone that lives in Palatine but doesn't work in the area, your only chance to eat at this place is the small 4 hour window on a Saturday or on a day off during the week (if you work a Mon-Fri job). read more

This restaurant has emotionally burnt to the ground. I will never eat here again. Pre COVID it was amazingly good fresh and generous. Now it is a pile of ashes that serves a panini with wilted lettuce that was turning black. It was so sad that I swear a rabbit got up and walked away when I offered it to him. Parking is plentiful but if you're not from this area, make sure to read the signs because some of the parking spots are for Metra users only! The parking that you can use is for 3 hours so you have plenty of time to eat and even walk around the area. I decided to order the daily special which consists of 1/2 panini and a cup of soup.
