We used to like this place a lot. But the recent few visits have been different. The last time we ordered ribs and briskets. Ribs are nice in a way that sauce trumps the meet taste. The meat was tender but a bit dry. The sauce tasted great, sweet and strong. The briskest was too tough and dry. We also had their signature lemonade - and it's watery. Visited Big Anges for the first time and let me say the beef brisket was phenomenal. This is my go to for BBQ in the Mount Prospect area. Service was great and very friendly staff. 06/05/21 - Today I finally made it to Big Ange's Eatery in Arlington Heights. My sister has been giving rave reviews about this place. Today I was finally in the area so I stopped in. Big Ange's is located on a tiny triangular site where Euclid & Northwest Highway meet. The parking lot is incredibly small. I ordered the smoked pastrami which is available only on Friday & Saturday until they run out. OMG the pastrami was so delicious & tender w/a smoky flavor that left my mouth watering as I slobbered my way through each delectable bite. This really had me craving & wanting another sandwich. Unfortunately I would have had to have a second stomach to consume this big juicy sandwich. As I was leaving I saw the smoker out in the parking lot w/a couple of the guys from Big Ange taking a couple of slabs of smoked sirloin out of the large smoker outside in the parking lot. One of them asked me if I wanted to try a sample of the sirloin tip & a sample of the smoked brisket. I mean twist my arm. He had to torture me and force me to try the samples lol . They were both delicious. The sirloin tip was very good but a little on the salty side. The brisket was so delicious & tender that it just melted in my mouth. Not worth the time or $. Super expensive and low quality, minimal amount of food. Getting dripped on from the ceiling while ordering was my first clue that I should have left. My husband and I drove out to the FABULOUS Arlington Heights eatery this afternoon for lunch. It was our first time visiting so we asked a gentleman behind the counter what he recommended. He was spot on when he suggested the reuben with pastrami. The sandwich was delicious and smoky. I had a tri-tip sandwich that was tender and smoky-no bbq sauce needed. We tried the cole slaw and found it creamy without being overly wet. (no horseradish in this recipe). Chip, a very friendly and personable employee, brought over samples of their homemade orange lemonade and homemade ice cream. Let me tell you, we were full before dessert, but so glad we made a bit of room for that ice cream! It was somewhere in between soft serve and hard scoop-perfection! What a delight. I've driven by this place dozens of times and never stopped in, but something called me today, and am I ever glad. Saturday midday and it was very busy but orders were dispatched promptly and correctly. We had the single patty ("petite") burgers, which come with thick dill chips, a house-made mayo/mustard spread, and diced red onion on a bakery soft roll. Burgers are cooked on a flattop. The beef was flavorful and cooked medium. Fresh cut fries are available in one size, an order large enough to share, and they were hot and crisp. We also had a chocolate shake, hand-scooped, ice cream made in-house. The menu is quite deep and features sandwiches and a variety of BBQ entrees as well. Owner/Manager? stopped by the table and asked if everything was satisfactory and whether he could get anything else for us. I shall return. Often. I have seen multiple posts on social media talking about how great the food was here. I also made a comment on Big Ange's Eatery Instagram page telling them that I definitely need to stop in there and try their food. After I made my comment someone from their Instagram page reached out to me. They told me what I needed to try and that I needed to stop in to say hello to the owner who is always there. I had some time on a Thursday afternoon to make my visit. I decided to wait past the lunch rush and go around 1:00 PM. The location of the restaurant is very unique, as it sits between railroad tracks on Northwest Highway, almost like a triangle plot. The lot for parking is extremely small. There is a large handicap ramp that you can use to enter the building or you can use the side with steps, which is away from the parking. When you first walk in you realize how small this eatery actually is. I walked up to the front counter and spoke with a gentleman who I assume was a manager. I asked to speak to Rocco, the owner. I told him that I spoke with someone through their Instagram and they invited me to come in and try some of their food. I handed him my business card to show all of my social media. He told me that's great and what would I like to try. I told him I wanted to try their famous brisket sandwich. I also wanted to try their pastrami sandwich. I also heard that their Porchetta sandwich, which was on Chicago's Best, is something that needs to be tried. I ordered a side of fries, a small side of coleslaw, and a side of macaroni and cheese. The total came to around $77. There was no discount for this food reviewer. I pay for all of my food that I review. I told the gentleman behind the counter that I was going to review all of the sandwiches and he told me to take a seat. They would let me know when it was ready. I waited about 10 minutes and my name was called. All of the food was packed up in a large brown bag. I would've liked if they had some sort of tray, so I could present the food better for pictures. This looked to be enough food to last me for a couple days. I pulled out the sandwiches first and then the sides. I tried a bite of each sandwich and a bite of all the sides. I packed up my food to go because the small eatery was starting to get very busy with school children. There was a group of probably 12 school children that started to crowd the entire place. Who knew that elementary school kids love the barbecue? Here is my review of each item. The star of the show, which I definitely would return for, is the Porchetta sandwich. The Porchetta was extremely tender and juicy. The hot gardiniera complimented it nicely. My only complaint is I wish it was a little spicier. My next sandwich I tried was the thick cut pastrami sandwich. This came with just mustard on Ryebread. The pastrami sandwich had a taste of smoke, with some saltiness. The meat was tender. It was good, but I do not think I would order it again. It was missing something to its flavor profile. I can't put my finger on. The next sandwich was their famous brisket sandwich. It looked so inviting. The meat was very tender, but I did not like the flavor whatsoever. The smoke was way too heavy. The flavor of the smoke tasted almost like they poured liquid smoke on it. I am not saying that they did this, but it was the strongest smoke flavor I've ever tasted on barbecue in my life. I did not care for the sandwich at all. The sides were OK. The French fries were good and crispy. The macaroni and cheese was creamy, but lacked any type of seasoning. It was just noodles and cheese. The coleslaw was the worst of the bunch. It was dry and it needed to be more creamy with some more spices. If I had just walked into this location and tried their Porchetta sandwich, I would give this place a 9 of 10 rating. However, since I did try the other items they brought the score down. Taking into consideration the price and inconvenience of parking when busy and the awkward location and the other items being lackluster, I give Ange's Eatery a rating of 6.9 out of 10. I want all my readers to remember that this is just my opinion. If you truly love something that I try and I do not care for that item, this is not personal. I will definitely return for that Porchetta sandwich. It is very good and definitely go. Check them out for the sandwich alone.would recommend coming to this place based on that one sandwich. read more

Stopped here for a late lunch while in Schaumburg for a conference. I am SO glad I did because the staff was friendly, and the brisket sandwich was delicious (especially with the "haystack" onions on top). I had my eye on the Italian porchetta sammich. 15 hour on the smoker... yes please. I was not sure what I was getting into but it sure as hell sounded good. First bite I was in heaven. Think Chicago Italian beef but made with pork .... Its packed full with just the right amount of juice. Usually i wasnt my Italian beef wetter than the titanic but this was money. The bread held up perfectly. They make two bbq sauces that were both good on the perfectly cooked fries. You must try the homemade orange lemonade. Right when we finished Chip asked how we liked it as he asked if I was a first timer when i ordered. I said it was amazing. He asked if i would get it next time. I said i wanted to try the meatball sammich next time. Then the eggplant items. He walks away and i go get a glass o water only to come back to a meatball waiting for me at the table. My husband and I have been looking for a good pastrami since the one at the train station in Chicago closed during COVID. We thought we would have to do without...until we found Big Ange's! They have a bunch of fan favorites, but I have to say the pastrami sandwich, brisket sandwich and porchetta sandwich are hands down the best! They raved about the ribs both times we walked through their doors, but they weren't fall off the bone as I'd hoped (maybe it was an off day?) The porchetta is like a pulled pork, but with Italian herbs. The juices soak into the French bread just like at Portillo's. I had quite a bit of fat on mine, which I didn't like but the sandwich itself was awesome! My husband has the brisket sandwich and loved it. But the pastrami is the star of the show. They were all sold out the 2nd time we visited, around 5pm on a Saturday. Might want to go early, if that's what you're craving! The bacon mac & cheese is rich & thick and better than most restaurants. The potato salad is rich and delicious as well. And the lemonade (orangeade?), while not very tart, is delicious. Picked Big Angie's ona rainy Friday afternoon and were greeted first by the smell of the smoker in the parking lot then with smiles and samples of 5 different items before we even made it to the register inside. Sausage, tri tip, Mac & cheese, brisket were all amazing. We ordered brisket, pastrami, haystack onions and a burger and fries and I don't have a single complaint about any of the food (or anything else for that matter). 5 stars across the board. The guys working were all warm and friendly and gave us a heartfelt thanks for coming in. The best food we've had when eating out in a long time! Don't be fooled by the dive look. The tri tip sandwich was amazing. My husband is from Central Coast CA where it originated so he is VERY particular and snobby about tri tip but it was melt in your mouth buttery and very well seasoned. My Reuben was jam packed with thick slices of meat and the smell alone can make you drool! This place is super easy to miss but we will be back frequently. A HUGE bonus - everyone working was extremely friendly and treated you like family. Lots of smiles, people walking around to check-in and great recommendations. I didn't realize that I hadn't written a review for Big Ange's. I've been here a few times and the absolute best item on the menu (IMO) is the Italian Porchetta Pork sandwich. You just don't see them around here. The pork was so good that after I had one in the store I got two more to take home. Five stars for the flavor, the value, the portion size and it was so tender and juicy along with the friendly owner/chef. Great local spot with wonderful barbecue, Italian and American options. We tried the brisket which was great. Love their sauce options. There's a sweet heat and habanero bbq sauce. Wow, what can I say? Unbelievably great smoked meats - I had brisket. Fabulous! Tasted the tri-tip, and it was great too. But really, anything you get is wonderful. I would try something other than the fries next time ... I'm used to a crispier version. But I loved that they weren't oversalted ... I could add my own. Next time I'll try haystack onions.
