The tomato basil bread shone with a warm, hearth-like hue; the turkey, thick and wholesome; the bacon--ah, the bacon!--crisply arrayed like the arms of a well-drilled regiment. However--and I make this remark not out of malice but of duty--the bread was slightly singed on one side, giving off a faint scent not unlike that of an overzealous footman's misstep in tending the hearth.
