We've been coming here for the past couple years, the first time when we were given a sheet of coupons from a family member. She always saves them for us now. We love the bagels, and the selection is always great. We also enjoy stopping in for veggie sandwiches, and they pile it on thick when we mention our dislike of the stingy spreads from the big franchise bagel places or the lard-infused bagel place. We've only ever had one server who treated us poorly, but she was gone in a flash. We always stop by to stock up before winter migration so we can fill the freezer with our fave bagels. read more

I had the Bacon Egg and cheese on an everything bagel and it was hot and fresh- the bacon could have been crispier but I didn't ask so next time I will! They're doing a lot better now, almost as good as they used to but enough to be 5 stars again. Much better customer service and more maturity in the employees. I really hope that doesn't change when school lets out for the summer. The bagel sandwiches and coffees that my family ordered were absolutely delicious and looked beautifully made as usual. I like the variety of coffees to choose from especially the sugar free flavors. My one gripe this time was my girlfriend and I ordered the same bagel sandwich except we each got different bagels and she substituted the sausage with the turkey sausage as she doesn't eat pork. Once we brought everything home is when we realized that they put the turkey sausage in my sandwich and the pork in hers. I understand that we had a family sized order and the two sandwiches in question were pretty similar so it could get confusing but they need to consider religious beliefs or allergies. Luckily her reason to avoid pork is neither one of them but if the wrong person is affected it could end up a lawsuit. I like that this place has a good variety of bagels aside from the standard variety. Blueberry cobbler, jalapeño, cinnamon sugar, chocolate chip, cheddar garlic, to name a few. They have a variety of cream cheese flavors too that you wont see at other places. They also have salads, sandwiches and wraps. What got me was the service. I started to order two extra bagels to go, which then became four, and the woman at the counter recommended I get half a dozen instead because it would be cheaper. I also ordered a chicken fajita wrap for someone who is lactose intolerant and when I told them no cream cheese they offered to add something else in its place at no extra charge, so I chose to add guacamole. We come to BAB's a good bit. I love the deli sandwiches, and my fiancé loves the breakfast sandwiches. I always get the Turkey club with 3 mini muffins. The bagels and muffins change every day, but there's still a few consistent ones. The service is always quick, you get your food within 7 minutes. The tables are always very messy and dirty but oh well, not a huge deal. Pricing is decent/average at BABs. We've been coming here for the past 4 years, and it's always been a good experience. This morning around 7am, I was waiting to get a sandwich before work. A older woman who was working just started yelling at this younger blond girl saying how her order would be awhile. AND THEN proceeded to tell the girl to make her own food. This is absolutely awful behavior and it should be noted that I completely understand being busy in the mornings, but yelling at your customer and dehumanizing them is not good. A hot mess! I called Big Apple Bagels to place an order for delivery for Sunday, October 21. The person who answered the phone told me that I need to place my order through ezcater.com. So I did that. 6 hours later, I got a call from EZCater, telling me that they couldn't fulfill the order because they didn't have a delivery driver for that day. (Common sense would have said that the original person who answered the phone at the establishment would have said that they don't have a delivery driver on Sunday(s), but that is apparently too simple of a reply to give to customers. So I found someone to pick it up at 7:15 Sunday morning (I live out of town) and called to place my (simple) order - their advertised Breakfast Box of muffins and bagels and a box of coffee. I spoke to a seemingly competent employee and another employee took my credit card information over the phone. Sunday morning comes, and my cousin calls me because they have no record of the order. When I spoke to the cashier on the phone, it was the same person who took my payment information 2 days earlier - so you would think that she knew that there was indeed an order for Sunday. They apologized profusely to my cousin who was coming off of an 11pm-7am shift and waiting around for half an hour while they got their act together - but that doesn't excuse the fact that the ball was dropped several times. So I cannot attest to the quality of their food, but their organizational skills as a whole seem to be severely lacking. read more

I made a bagel run early Sunday morning and walked out with a dozen bagels and two tubs of spread and a few breakfast sandwiches. Confidence was high as I smelled the familiar smells of a bagel joint and the very crowded tables inside a lonely strip mall in Central PA. "The Good" - The bagels are decent. You get spoiled when you worked in a Deli when you grew up in NJ and have had some very good bagels. They are chewy on the inside and the toppings stay on which is a good sign. - The spreads are fresh and they have enough to last the dozen if you use them normally and not be "That Guy" when applying them. - The staff were very fast and kept everyone moving and my order was correct [which is always a plus ; ) ] - The review on the bagels alone, for York PA is a decent review. The below concerns the rest of the menu, namely the sandwiches. "The Meh" - There was nothing really meh... "The Bad" - The breakfast sandwich was kinda off. They have the part steamed, part microwaved egg thing, that is not really an egg. Right there ended the sandwich for me... but the texture really threw me for a loop, it had a very hard film on the exterior. Big Apple Bagels has the best bagels in York County, in my opinion. There's a wide variety of options to choose from. They have sweet and savory. If you like the Thomas brand of bagels, which I do not, you probably will not favor Big Apple bagels. The crust is harder, and they are more bagel-like than bread-like. If you get the Clipper Magazine, there's usually a coupon for 6 free if you buy 6. That's great because you can sample many of them. The last time I got one that I think was called white Russian. I had raisins and sesame seeds...kind of a sweet and savory combo. I loved it. I don't think I've had one type/flavor that I did not like. My kids like the chocolate chip bagels. The bagel/bread part is not very sweet. It's not overloaded with sugar except for the chocolate chip part. Their lox cream cheese is good. The place is clean, and the staff are nice. read more

The breakfast bagel sandwiches were pretty tasty, but the store was dingy. I stopped in on the way to work Thursday morning and there was a small line, but it moved quickly. The staff were friendly and my order came out after a few minutes. I also tried their cold brew coffee, which was also decently better than coffee from other national chains. The store was old and looked way overdue for a makeover. Only 4 stars as the bagel was good, but didn't get choices on the cheese, no non-cheese egg sandwich on menu and the one I got had a processed cheese, would ask for no cheese next time. I was in the mood for an everything bagel with lox and capers. What better place than Big Apple Bagels right? Since you know...New York has the most rocking lox bagels. WRONG. First....not even on the menu so you have no idea what is on it. Second...no capers on premises but I can get olives instead. No thanks. Now...the lox on display was sad looking. But I figured I would still chance it. I asked for the sandwich with the lox and onion and tomato. What I didn't ask for....was the nice long black hair that was clearly visible sticking out of my sandwich...very visible as the plate was handed to me. And then when I gave it back...not a sorry...not anything other than a look as if I inconvenienced them. I asked for a refund and left. Won't be going back there anytime soon. read more

I have been shopping here 3 times a month for the last several years. There was a time when I could place an order and it was prepared correctly. My usual order is a salt bagel with veggie cream cheese and an onion bagel with olive cream cheese, tomato and lox (not nova). Both sandwiches open faced and not toasted. I have let most of the mistakes slide, young ever changing employees, this time I cannot. I was served rotter lox. They fish should have been removed from the case days ago. There was actually fir growing on it. So I make the trip back and get treated to and I quote. First a snippy sound from the blond nameless clerk. To be fair, I grew up in New York so a comparison between those bagels and ones from southcentral PA isn't really possible. However, customer service is universal, and based on my experience this morning, was sorely lacking at this establishment. Here is what I wrote in the comment section of the Big Apple Bagels "Contact Us" page. I am writing to let you know of the highly unsatisfactory experience I had this morning at your York PA location. The girl behind the counter was sullen and could not have been less interested in her job. The urn with the coffee I wanted was empty, and when I tried to get the counter girl's attention she was standing in the back with her drink. When she finally made it over to the coffee counter she informed me it would take 7 minutes for the coffee to brew. Since I had to get to my job, I could not wait around for this to be done. (Tardiness, as well as the aforementioned sullenness are frowned upon at my job.) The coffee counter needed to be wiped down and the creamer pot had stickiness at the end, just sort of hanging off the spout. Gross! I had come from a doctor's appointment and hadn't had breakfast or (more importantly) my morning coffee yet. Needless to say, I was seriously disappointed in the coffee (I had to settle for the Breakast Blend - too weak for me!); the bagel was OK. In any event, I was seriously disappointed in my overall experience; hopefully this was just an anomaly and can be corrected with some proper training in customer satisfaction. read more

This place is awesome! We live in Maryland and we've stopped here 3 times on different road trips going north. Bagels are fresh and they have a variety of cream cheeses. I always get a breakfast sandwich with egg and bacon and cheese. This last visit, I got mine on a Swiss Melt bagel. Yum!! They have at least a dozen different kind of bagels, if not more. I was looking for a quick early lunch. I always look at local flavor to see if any deals that could fit the bill. Big apple bagels had $20 for $10, so I bought it thinking I'd grab a sandwich and coffee and use the rest of the $20 for bagels to take home.
