This place was home song so I tried the biscuits and gravy. Terrible no star. The biscuit was flat and heavy like it didn't have time to rise or was old. Heavy gravy and no sausage pieces, only minute pieces of God would know. Omelet was good minus the overload of canned mushrooms and spinach which I expected to be fresh. Edible. I went in to order a take out order and the young lady Norma saw me standing there and told me to wait one minute, then 3 other customers came in as she was coming back and told me to wait one minute again as she told the customers that came in after me to come with her. so I'm still standing there waiting and she comes back and tells me to wait one minute "AGAIN!!!" and she goes to get glasses of water and soda, then she comes back again and tells me to wait one minute as she gets ice and pours it into the soda machine, and walks away, now I'm standing there mad, so she comes back and start grabbing cooked orders then another lady walks up and she tells her that I want to do a take out so the lady looks at me and continue to work with her receipts and I told her that's ok and walked out. I really felt that they were being racist towards me by me being a BLACK MAN and I will NEVER go to that restaurant again and I will tell all my family and friends about the treatment that I received from the staff in that restaurant so that they know not to ever go there. that was very horrible and disrespectful customer service read more

Decent mom & pop kind of diner. Food was fresh and hot. Veggie soup was amazing. Server was really nice. Kitchen was backed up and it took a bit longer for our food than we anticipated. Filled the bellies of my family of 4 for $29. Really can't beat that. Would come back for sure! read more

Food was decent, the cod was good. Kids meal prices were awesome - under $4 and the kids loved the food. Mickey Mouse pancakes were the favorite, but the french toast was good too. As for the adult food, I had a bacon and egg croissant that was edible but nothing exciting, and the skillet we ordered looked rather ordinary. Better than Denny's, but that's all. read more

Best breakfast, best value anywhere. This was recommended to us by the hotel we stayed at. We honestly haven't seen food this good at these very affordable prices anywhere. The breakfast menu has everything from eggs and toast to pancakes, omelettes, and skillets that looked delicious. We kept our meal simple with eggs and toast, but also included hash browns and your choice of meat for a dollar more. Breakfast came with perfectly crisp hash browns, a solid sized serving of ham and sausage, plus our choice of many toast options and perfectly cooked eggs. All said and done, we both had a big breakfast and walked out only $9 and change later before tip. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive. We couldn't have asked for a better breakfast deal. Highly recommend this to anyone passing through Freeport. read more

Just the fact that this place is 24 hrs on weekends is awesome in itself. Not many places stay open that late in Freeport. I had an omelet with homemade hashbrowns, this was the best omelet I've had in town so far! The restaurant is casual, the service is good and the prices are cheap. I'll be back soon! read more

Totally looks like a refurbished Burger King from the outside...because I'm pretty sure it is. But the decor on the inside is much nicer. I came here for breakfast with my boyfriend a couple weekends ago, and had some surprisingly good Swedish pancakes with lingonberries. I haven't seen those on any other breakfast menus in Freeport, so they get points for that. read more

Problem #1: I ordered the deep fried whole catfish dinner to go and the catfish was not thoroughly cooked and it smelled as if the catfish itself was not fresh. Problem #2: I called several times to speak to the management about my complaint and was always told that they would have to call me back. They never called me back !!! I ended up throwing the catfish away and it will be some time before I order it again. I must add that I have ordered the catfish numerous times in the past with no problems. Therefore, I will chalk this up as one bad meal (you can get a bad meal from anywhere). However, the bigger problem that really irks me is that their management never called me back to take my complaint. read more

On June 29, 2017 at 2:45 pm my family went to this restaurant to eat breakfast! The food order taken by the waitress was incorrect. Some of the food was warm not hot and the other dishes of eggs and pancakes were cold. We asked for several things like straws to drink our beverages, extra napkins, corrections with the food and the waitress took her dam time never I mean never returned with the requested items so another young lady who was cleaning brought the items to us while the food was cold. We never knew her name but she wore a lot of tattoos. We were so upset! We paid she never asked us how the food service she did not give a dam! People do not go to this restaurant not to mention the bacon was burnt! read more

Fun little fact: this restaurant was a Burger King way back in the 1980's. I had not been inside since a kid. The restaurant has been around for a long time, but I had never had a reason to go inside. After competing in the 33rd YMCA triathlon, myself, my brother, my wife, my aunt, mother, and adopted brother, his wife and their two children went to this restaurant to celebrate a successful morning. You could not tell this place was ever a fast food restaurant on the inside. It had a country-homey feel and the feel of the place was comfy with many people dining inside. They had both breakfast and lunch menus available and we all scoured through them with great interest looking at all of the many options available. I ended up picking an item off their "Light Fare" portion of the menu, the California _____ dish. That is not exactly the right term, but it was certainly supposed to be the light and healthy listing of food options in their lunch menu. I also ordered the Alaskan Waffle off of their breakfast menu. The Alaska Waffle was brought out first and was impressive- a big thick waffle with covered in canned strawberries, nuts, a scoop of ice cream and several dabs of whipped cream. The waffle was light and tasty, and I ended up devouring it with great anticipation of the California ______ dish that was also coming out. My brother and wife also had some of the Alaskan Waffle and enjoyed it. When the California ______ dish came out, I commented to the server that it looked delightful. In my mind, based on the menu description, I had an expectation of a something like a pot pie with turkey, and lots of vegetables served with a side of fruit. Instead, what I received was a pile of something smothered in what looked like a thick layer of cheese (or Velvetta). I scraped the cheese off and began to use a knife and a fork to try and cut through a chunk of crust, but the crust was really hard. I cannot recall now if I did cut it or not. I think I did, and ate a piece, but that was the last piece of crust I had as it was tasty. I then proceeded to eat the actual mix of vegetables and turkey. The vegetables were so overcooked that all the vibrancy and texture of things like broccoli were lost. I could not detect any particular flavor of any of the vegetables. The turkey in this dish was layers of processed luncheon meat and also lacked any discernable flavor of turkey. I like turkey, I have had turkey in its many forms including lunch meat made of turkey... this turkey lacked those characteristics that help me to desire turkey as food source. The food experience of my main course meal was like when I forced myself to eat one of my failed meals/recipes that I had made for myself back in college when I was learning to cook for myself. In the end, I ate about 1/5 of the pile of mash that was spread on my plate. I ate the fresh tomato, I enjoyed the fresh fruit that accompanied my mash, and I enjoyed the Alaskan Waffle. My aunt had the apple granola pancakes- the presentation was very good, but she did not enjoy the taste of the product. My brother had three fried eggs with bacon and hash, and again the presentation was good, the plate was filled, but he was underwhelmed with the food. My wife had a vegetable omelette with fruit, she finished this, but she was not raving about the taste. My mother had a BLT and she liked that. My adopted brother and his wife had food that tasted good too. So what is the takeway from our experience and this long post.... I would not recommend Big Apple Restaurant as a place to enjoy anything but your most simple breakfast options. I would tell out of town visitors from larger cities who are used to more developed and competitive restaurant markets to lower your expectations when walking into this restaurant. I would tell the owners and managers of the restaurant to drop your many many options and double down and focus on the basics- running a restaurant where the food is tasty and desirable by all your guests. I do not want another business in Freeport to fail- this city has lost too many business as it is... but I will tell you that my experience here has discouraged me from making a repeat visit, which, if you are in the restaurant business in a small market, is the exact opposite of what you want. read more

I went there for supper on July 4th, 2011 and found a pleasant atmosphere and pleasant staff. Plenty of choices on the menu along with daily specials. I went with the the meat loaf meal which started with excellent cream of chicken with rice soup followed by a good sized lettuce salad with dressing. The main course quickly followed with the meat loaf, mashed potatoes, green beans and a roll. I had the rice pudding for dessert which was included with the meal. I had water to drink. Total, with tax, $7.34. I was very pleased with the price as well as the food quality and size of the servings. I plan to go back my next trip to Freeport! read more

My first visit and I will NEVER go back. Went before dinner rush, waited and waited for a waitress, finally ordered, got soup and salad at the same time and waited for food. Had been driving most of the day and not much to eat during the drive so we were hungry. Finally got food and my pork cutlett was so unevenly cooked I couldn't cut it even with a knife! My gravy had NO taste and my husband waited and waited for the waitress to come and see if we needed anything else, which he did, but she was waaaay tooo busy chatting with a table at the other end. Finally, we asked another waitress who took her sweet time to bring the mustard. I finally had a chance to tell our waitress my cutlett was horrible, I tried to eat some, she took it away and offered to charge half because I had eaten some. Well, dahhhh, didn't eat most of the day! I declined another meal and asked for dessert. Big mistake! Watered down over riced pudding. Yuk! NEVER go there!!!! read more
