Located on the second floor of the Hyatt Regency, Big Bar is one of the more unique hotel bars in Chicago. It's certainly a sight to see, but the food and drinks aren't anything too special. Service is fine. Prices are a bit high, which is to be expected. My husband and I will pop over now and then, since we live in the neighborhood. Absolutely terrible service. I sat at the bar as a hotel guest hoping to grab a quick nightcap and was completely ignored. Multiple bartenders walked by repeatedly, yet somehow managed to avoid even making eye contact with me the entire time. I was waving, attempted to call them many times. It honestly felt intentional. Not once did anyone acknowledge my presence, say they'd be with me shortly, or check whether I needed anything. I've never experienced staff work so hard to avoid a customer sitting directly at the bar. After waiting far longer than I should have, I left without ever being served. It was frustrating, embarrassing, and completely soured my evening. If you're looking for hospitality, you'll have better luck elsewhere. read more

Entree: Big burger single. Very well seasoned, juicy and flavorful. I was shocked. 5/5 Cocktail: Navy pear. This was similar to a martini. I loved the pear flavor. Not to overwhelming but enough to mask the liquor. 4.5/5 Ample seating that overlooks the lobby. Televisions to showcase several sports stations if you need to catch a few highlights. This place is a Vibe. I came here one night while enjoying my birthday staycation weekend. I came around 9:00 PM and this place was lit. I found me a table by the window with a nice view. I didn't have to wait look before my server came over to take my order. A bar located inside the Hyatt Hotel. The bar is light and has a liquor tower that is all the way to the ceiling. The view from this place is impeccable. It serves good reasonable cocktails, bar food and good grown up vibes. If your ever downtown and want to enjoy a cocktail and good vibes go visit the Big Bar. This is the cocktail bar/restaurant located in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency, almost right on the Chicago River. Patrons seated at the bar can watch sports and other programming on one of several flat screens, and enjoy the view of the lower part of the city through the large windows. Guests of this hotel pay a $25 "destination fee" which in turn gives them that same amount in discounts at restaurants and bars in the hotel, including this one. We stopped here a few times during our stay to take advantage of that, while planning our day or deciding where to have dinner later that evening. This bar is located inside the Hyatt Regency Chicago where I was staying on a trip to Chicago. I decided to have a drink there one evening kill time after exploring the Navy Pier and taking a River Boat tour. The bar is neat and clean but nothing to go out of your way to see. Half of the bar was blocked off for a dentist conference that night. I got to the bar before my group and didn't realize I was sitting in the reserved area at first. Once a very nice dentist started speaking to me about the finer nuances of the Mesial, Distal and Buccal edges of a tooth, I realized my error. I thanked the kind dentist for the interesting information and excused myself as I saw my party entering the bar. When I made my way to the other side of the barrier and to the table where my party was seated, it did take a minute before the waiter made it to our table. It was quite busy that evening, so I was understanding of the situation. I ordered an Anti Hero IPA, which is a beer brewed by a local brewery called Revolution Brewing. The beer itself was hoppy and crisp. Quite bitter with hints of citrus and sweet caramel/butterscotch taste. I thought the beer was great and I ordered another one. In the end, we sat there for about an hour and enjoyed a few drinks. This is not a bad spot to sit and chill, especially if you're staying in the hotel. Otherwise, it's not a bar you need to go out of your way to visit. I'm giving the bar a four star review based on the beer, which was really good. read more

My friend and I were working Thursday and staying at the hotel. We needed a lunch break and decided to eat here for lunch since they had plugs and very laptop work friendly. We took a lunch break and I ordered the Caesar salad added chicken. Yes it was a very pricey Caesar salad if you add the chicken but it was really good. The chicken wasn't dry and it had good flavors. What was best was the dirty martini! The lady/server was also the bartender and had honestly didn't look like she can make a good martini but I was very surprised how good it was! It also helps to get kettle one as the base but it wasn't too salty! We were happy workers after lunch! Lol. read more

The host does not greet and seat you here; it's a walk-in and grab what's available setting. We went here at 11 in the night on the evening of St Patty's and the servers seemed tired and run-down. The cocktail menu isn't impressive and both the cocktails we ordered were quite sugary. We ended up returning those and drinking vodka soda for the rest of the evening. We were not charged for the returned drinks. The space utilization is not optimal and bar is located against the wall facing the river which blocks the view. This is a convenient spot for in-hotel guests but would not recommend to others. read more

At the BIG Bar, I expected it to be a typical hotel bar, but was pleasantly surprised. Located on the second floor of the Hyatt Regency Chicago, we walked into a long room filled with tall tables and an extended bar with stool seating. The dim lighting and the reflection from the big screen monitors kept the place just lit enough for comfortable conversations. Since we came back from a hearty dinner, our plan was only a nightcap. From the extensive drink menu, I selected the Marker's Mark with Manhattan cherries ($14.25) and my guest had the Bulleit Bourbon ($14.25) both on the rocks. When the server dropped off our drinks, we were shocked on the BIG pour! It was easily a 2 drinker. Bottoms up. The drink menu was full of beers, wines, cocktails and spirits. I didn't think the prices were too inflated considering it was in a hotel in Chicago! Maybe I'm use to the higher prices in LA, Las Vegas and Boston?? They offered appetizers and big plate options but didn't see a dessert menu. During the day, this space is open for meeting up but after a certain time it's open for ages 21+. The views of the Chicago River gave a calm background. Sorry to hear all the bad reviews of the BIG Bar but my experience was positive and earns a repeat visit. read more

Forget it if you use a mobility device. I cannot comment on the food or drink, because I ended up in a different bar. After making my way down a flight of stairs with my rollator, we decided to go elsewhere, because the only available seating was "bar stool" height, and several of our party cannot sit comfortably on a high stool. I was offered the use of the tiny kitchen service elevator to get back up to a level with real elevator service available. Not a pleasant experience. We popped in to have a few drinks and watch the game.. They are abiding my local COVID guidelines and maintaining social distancing, limiting capacity as well as asking that guests put their masks up when the servers are at the table, which I thought was pretty cool. The bar was pretty cool with a large selection of cocktails and food to order, and they had tables with TVs in them so you could pick the channel you wanted, which was a cool touch. The down side was the service, our waitress was nice enough.. but just so inattentive and very slow.. there were 2 people waiting on tables and probably a total of 6-10 tables in the entire place.. so not terribly busy. We had planned on getting a second round of drinks but after waiting over 45 minutes on our waitress to come back around we finally sent someone from our party up to the counter to ask someone for our check... Very convenient if you're staying at the Hyatt Regency and need a late night snack. My body clock was still on pacific time and I needed to work a little longer, so I headed down a little before midnight to fuel up before getting back to my email backlog from the day (which other road warriors know does not stop just because you're traveling). This place is alive! Dozens of TVs blazing sports and other channels, conversations flowing with the alcohol, camaraderie all around. I sat at the bar under a huge "tower of alcohol" - whisky, cognac, gin, rum, seemed like they had stacked every hard spirit known to man! Ordering a tall Guinness and a buffalo chicken flatbread pizza, I settled down to watch the Golden State Warriors clinch their first Pacific division title in 40 years. The spicy buffalo sauce paired beautifully with the rich smooth Guinness. And I sat there, game over, staring beyond the large windows at the cold Chicago river and snow-covered streets beyond, happily enjoying the food, warmth and hospitality of BIG bar. read more

If you take a seat at the Big ass bar, take a gander at the lovely Chicago sight. On your side of the glass you'll notice a few tiers of bottles, cognacs, vodkas, etc. Its a wonderful view. I love the theme, "BIG". Bg ass quantity. Imagine a 48 oz martini, or a 108 oz beer tower. I think the largest chilled domestic mug is a 36 oz. Three sizes say it best, Big, bigger and biggest. To me, its a treat. Once in awhile, stopping in for a big ass buzz is ok. Note the prices, 48 oz martini can run about $20 bucks +, its served in an oversized martini glass, must see! Came here with work people after a weekday meeting with no expectations and I was absolutely blown away by the BIG martini glasses they were serving. I'm from NY and I have never seen anything like this. I was so excited. My group got two VERY BIG drinks which is great for a group of 4. We had about 6 in our group so 2 drinks were just right.
