Very standard hotel bar and grill that gets the job done, especially when you're done being out and about for the night but want a night cap before totally calling it. I came here a couple times during my work trip to end the evening with my go-to glass of bubbly. It's very typical in terms of menu offerings, atmosphere, etc. Service was friendly and I did end up chatting with some other patrons both times. Stopped in after a local show. Mixed drinks were well made. Service was basic. The waiter informed us about last call for the bar but when tried to order desert he then said the kitchen was closed. Had the butternut squash ravioli, it was basic , lacked flavor and portion was more of tapas when listed as entree. There is no good contact number or email to share this experience. The 720 South Bar & Grill is located inside the Hilton Chicago Hotel. I visited three times during my stay at the Hotel. I ate breakfast here two mornings in a row. They have a breakfast buffet - which includes a custom omelette station where you pick up a bowl, load it with ingredients, then hand it to the chef to prepare. Both mornings I selected Asparagus, onions, mushrooms, spinach, and fresh jalapeños, plus cheddar and bacon (the second day - cheddar and Chorizo). Instead of an omelette - I had the chef prepare it as a scramble. I added some bacon and sausage on the side - along with some strawberries. I also had a glass of V-8 juice and a cup of coffee. Everything was very good and service was excellent. What is not excellent - is the prices - breakfast both mornings was around $30.00. I also stopped into the bar one evening and had a 22 oz. pint of Anti-Hero IPA (Revolution Brewing Co.). Excellent Ale - not an excellent price. My bill with tip for one beer was around $16.00. The breakfast buffet here is fantastic. Lots of options to choose from, eggs, frittata, potatoes with and without meat. For Mother's day the potatoes had the most tender flavorful brisket. Made to order omelets, you pick your add ins and cheeses. I asked for fresh garlic and voila, although not one of the normal options but chef made it happen. Fresh croissants, muffins, breads. Fresh cut and whole fruits. Oatmeal, cereal, etc. Comfortable seating and excellent wait staff that serves you drinks, coffee, tea, juice etc. The food here was some of the best we had during our stay in Chi town. We stayed 2 nights at the Chicago Hilton and dined at the 720 South Grill for breakfast each morning. We opted for the full breakfast buffet including hot foods. Not sure why the bad reviews, but our food and dining experience was top notch both days. The shining STAR of the restaurant? The amazing egg station chef who was completely on top of the orders despite it being a completely full restaurant during our stay. He did all the egg orders perfectly and quickly. Over easy? Done. Omelet? Perfect. And he does it with a smile!! Really could not ask for more. Whatever the Hilton is paying him - give this man a raise! He's worth it! As for the buffet foods, there were the normal hot and continental selections, but one thing to note was that they had corned beef hash that weekend. Not sure if it an everyday selection or seasonal feature (since I didn't see of the other items mentioned in other yelp reviews), but it was super yummy! They used real chunks of corned beef, not the microscopic shreds from a can in lesser diners. And they also had a small Asian/Chinese section with potstickers, pork buns and congee which was a nice change of pace. Servers were also nice, friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this place for the breakfast buffet. 5 stars all the way! read more

As 720 Grill & Bar isn't the most assuming venue on an ordinary afternoon, it is definitely a quieter environment to carry out good conversations. Highly recommend the fried duck wings dressed in sweet chili sauce (my favorite sauce) sprinkled with sesame seeds and green onions. The brown meat is very tender and outer skin lightly crisp. The crème brûlée is also wonderfully made in a thicker cream. The brûlée layer is done perfectly, just lightly blowtorched. read more

I loved this hotel bar so much! We almost didn't come due to the sub-par reviews, but ended up stopping in for happy hour since we were already staying in the Hilton. Unfortunately, their sangrias were all out, so we opted for house wines. If anyone is wondering, the house red was a Cabernet Sauvignon provided by Canyon Road. Apparently, it's one of the most commonly provided budget reds served at conferences and at $5 a piece it was not bad. We also got a Cheese & Charcuterie for $25.25, which came with 3 cheese, 3 meats, some pickled onions and crostini. Their house-made pimento and olive paste was really quite good while everything else was nice as expected. For protein, we got the grilled wings. They come with a dry rub, then you have the option of two dips, a sweet chili soy glaze and buffalo ranch. I want to add that live music on the piano appears to start most nights after 8pm. The usual standard disclaimers apply to this review - if you happen to be staying in Chicago, and you are staying at the Chicago Hilton, the Blackstone, or the Essex Inn, and you like burgers, beer, and bourbon, you should consider the 720 for a dining and / or drinking option. Why? Because the burger here is freaking unbelievable. Order it medium rare, as it is a high quality, juicy steak cut, simply adorned with aged cheddar, and, as you see fit, lettuce, tomato, ketchup and mustard. You can get a fried egg too, but resist the urge to gild. I rarely finish a burger but I inhaled this one. Rarely is a $15 hotel burger worth it, but this is the exception. The fries are good, too, and the restaurant has some local beers on tap which I highly recommend, particularly the Metropolitan option. For cocktails, their rye manhattan is superb, made with "Rhode Island Rye", a brand with which I was not previously acquainted. She was silky smooth and spicy, but sadly is cooped up all day long, for the bar does not open until 5 PM. And it is because of that late opening time that I give this place three stars only; after all, what is the point of staying in a downtown hotel if you cannot start your lunch with a hearty Manhattan? I was staying at the Hilton for a four-day conference and ate lunch twice at the lobby restaurant. The first visit I had the small caesar salad which was ok. It would have been nice if the description mentioned the anchovies as I am not a fan. My co-worker ordered the lobster roll and he said it was great. On my next visit, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty good - flavorful and the bleu cheese gave it a nice twist. The downside is the service was horrible both times - the servers all looked miserable and seemed to be bothered when it came to waiting on you. We had to ask for drink refills and they made it clear that it was an inconvenience. It is a hotel lobby restaurant so the food is a little overpriced - if they could just work on the service, it would be a huge improvement! read more

Disappointed in a Hilton restaurant....We were staying at the Hilton and 7 of us walked into 720. There was no one in the restaurant at 2pm. It took 20 minutes to get 4 iced teas and 7 waters. After ordering 3 hamburgers, 1 crispy chicken (which was partially raw), and 3 soup and salads, it took 45 minutes to get the order. We were on a time constraint to get family photos for the catilion. I got up and asked why it was taking so long to get our food? I told them I couldn't understand because there was no one in the restaurant. There was only an apology and no explanation. An ideal business lunch meeting place. Conveniently located right in the lobby, this restaurant is comfortable, has nice decor and a few tables. My dining partner has meetings here regularly and insisted we sit at a particular table with the armless style chair. Funny, but I could see his point. There are three seating types here. A bench, an arm chair and an armless chair. I learned the armless is the way to go because the others are too low or too high. Ha! My partner ordered the shrimp salad and I ordered the Garden chop salad with crisp greens, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, radish, sharp cheddar, honey-dijon vinaigrette large salad ($12). On a hot day my salad made for the perfect lunch, and the large size was ideal for a meal. I was told the small is appetizer size. I left perfectly full. Mah. Gawd. These were the best bennies I've ever had. Instead of Canadian bacon, sliced ham. Instead of boring English muffin, savory bread pudding. I recently dined at 720 South Bar and Grill during a conference at the Hilton. The modern/chic ambiance and slightly lofty price tags tricked me into expecting a worthwhile, if not safe, meal. The reality is that 720's decor perfectly mirrors its fare: nicely-presented but wholly shallow. The steak I ordered, aside from being woefully over-cooked (nearly brown for a "medium" steak), was drenched in buttery, caramelized onions and a wedge of a buttery-cheese concoction. I realize that, on paper, this now sounds somewhat appetizing, but the actual dish tasted like the worst "Americanization" of steak frites possible. This is a dish that should rely largely on the subtle flavors of the beef, not saucy onions. Any buttery additions should be light and enhancing, not overblown and heavy. And then there were the "frites." Calling them that is an utter disservice to Belgian cuisine. These were simply generic, fried potato wedges with no seasoning at all, save some requisite salt. Nothing more to say here. I also had the opportunity to try the "720 Burger," which featured all sorts of meats combined together (beef, pork belly, short ribs, and so on). Again, the bun was too buttery, the meat heavy and well done (also ordered as "medium"), and the general effect was an "enticing on paper" dish rendered completely uninteresting to the taste buds. I cannot recommend 720 for anyone interested in anything more than a handy location and a lot of extra bills burning a hole in their pocket. read more

This is a tough place to review. Some of the food was mediocre, some was great, some was terrible. The service was initially AMAZING, but then after we got our food, we were practically ignored. After being asked if I wanted to take any of my food home, the brought the boxes out and just laid them on the table. For these prices, and the environment, I should not have had to pack my own food up. THE WORST PART!! We had to fight with the front desk to validate our ticket. The valet told us to self park and validate our tickets for a lower cost. The front desk refused to validate the ticket. Back and forth back and forth for 15 minutes. Cooked a perfect medium, tender, juicy, and very tasty. I ordered the grilled asparagus and it was also excellent. They have an average selection of beers. The decor is nice, not too loud. Came back on a cold-ish rainy night and thought that before heading up to my room I'd get some hot soup inside me. Sat down at the bar and asked what the soup if the day was. After some confusion I was told that it was "some kind of beef and bean soup, and a bit spicy." As I tried it another server came by and asked if I liked the turkey and green sauce. Ummm, what?! It was in fact a turkey chili. A pretty decent turkey chili at that but not knowing whether you're serving beef soup or turkey chili is pretty poor form. To be clear, it was described incorrectly because the person describing simply couldn't tell what it was, not because he didn't remember that night's special. You don't have to avoid this place if you stay at the Hilton Chicago. Don't however go out of your way for it. It's standard lobby fare. When told not to put pickle, tomato, etc on the burger still came with it. We also order the chocolate cake which tasted pretty good but upon inspection of the backside, it looked like they were white chocolate and regular chocolate shavings, except the white chocolate was no longer white, it was brittle and kind of tan.
