Wow, I am truly blown away by this spot. Father's Day was a go with the flow kind of day, driving through downtown Saratoga after Hakone Gardens we were hungry and literally spotted this as we were ready to leave downtown, there was a parking spot right in front. The name is deceiving, there are a LOT of options besides just burgers. In fact, we all ended up with something different and equally delicious. 1. Fried Mozzerella = probably the best we have ever had, hands down delicious. The breading was perfect, it was FRESH mozzarella and had a yummy tomato sauce. My 8 year old devoured these. 2. Fried Artichokes = absolutely delicious and was more than just the heart, was the heart leaves and it was absolutely tasty, dip was great - they were crunchy, flavorful - I think there were 6 or 8 rather large pieces. 3. Beat salad with fried goat cheese (balls) and I added grilled chicken. I too devoured this salad and it was one of the prettiest salads I have seen in a long time. Fresh, flavorful, the chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this salad and the portion was quite large. 4. Gyro - my husband loved his, said the meat was really flavorful and the pita tasted fresh. The fries that come with it were crunchy, salted well. 5. Kids cheese burger - it is deceptive - its small, but the patty was thick. While my child probably could have gone with a large size burger, he felt full after eating this and his fries (and the mozerella of course). Pricing is in line with what we pay at Mojo burger, and that is same size, but this was FRESH and cooked exactly how he likes it. 6. Cookie Monster Milk Shake - tasty explosion of flavors - it was really good and appreciated after our meal! For all these items our bill was much lower than I would expect, I was blown away at the value for what we got. We all had drinks - ice tea, milk, coffee = that plus this incredibly fresh, tasty food - 100% would recommend for the value, the quality and the water was awesome! Went here for burgers after the wine festival in town with my friends. The food was okay, though the bbq chicken sandwich was pretty chewy, but what really led to this one-star review was how the staff handled a sick customer. There was a girl in the bathroom who got sick. I don't know if it was food poisoning or something else and I honestly thought nothing of it. A little while later, police showed up, which was confusing because I was only a few tables away and never saw her group acting rowdy or disruptive beyond a normal Saturday night out. The "trespassers" the restaurant called about turned out to be the sick girl and her friend, both paying customers who had been quiet and respectful the entire evening. What was really upsetting was how rude and cold the staff seemed toward them. Calling the police on someone who was clearly unwell instead of showing even a little compassion was honestly disgusting to watch. It also did not go unnoticed that they were the only other women of color there besides myself, which made the situation feel even more tactless and uncomfortable. Really disappointing experience overall, and I hope they choose to handle situations like this with more empathy in the future. read more

I'ma true deviled egg fan! I'm not gonna lie, this was unexpected. I think these are literally the best deviled eggs I've ever eaten in my life. They were a perfect combination of flavors, with none overpowering the other. The candied bacon used as an accent, was fabulous. You gotta stop by this place if you're ever in the area. Went with dear friends to the Big Basin Burger Bar after a beautiful day/hike at Castle Rock Park. I ordered the Topped Bleu Cheese wagyu beef burger (swapped the bleu cheese for cheddar) with sweet potato fries - so delicious! The burger was super flavorful and the sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside -- I also asked for ranch dressing for the fries - yum - highly recommend! So then I say "fine - but when we call, don't tell us to come at 545 and we will be fine. Just say what you just said." And of course, he just scowls and walks away. Come here sometimes after outdoors outing up in Castle Rock State Park that is nearby. They are quick, have good beer on tap and the burgers are yummy. Fried Mozzarella is amazing. I love this place. I like the high ceilings, the small outdoor patio, and attentive service. The burgers are great. I like the truffle fries and the menu beyond just burgers. I especially like the Blue Cheese burger. They always seem to have a porter or stout on tap, which in appreciate. Not everyone has a dark beer on rotation all the time. Finally, if I happen to be in the mood for something else on the menu and don't want my main dish to be a burger, I always manage to get the Wagyu sliders as an appetizer. read more

If you're looking for a typical greasy burger joint, I recommend this spot. I got a portobello sandwich with a beef patty. The sandwich itself was quite good, but I would include a pickle with it to cut through the grease. I asked for the patty to be done medium rare but unfortunately it was served well done. We hoped to sit outdoors but it was plagued with flies. Hopefully they improve their outside seating arrangements! It's been awhile since my last visit and a friend wanted to eat here, so thought I'd give this another try. I'm glad I came back! This restaurant has expanded its menu items to be more than just burgers. They have small plates, salads, specials, their different varieties of burgers, and many drink options. There are many wonderful dishes, however the Albondigas soup on their specials menu was calling my name. I found out this item used to be a seasonal dish, however it was so popular, they added it as a permanent item. I knew I had to try it and it was so delicious! My friend had the waygu sliders. It was listed as a small plate, but these sliders were definitely on the larger side and loaded with toppings. We also shared the tempura green beans and found these to be good, but not fabulous. The dining area is comfortable, and a bit on the noisy side. There is outside dining available. They have sit down service and our server was ready to help. Pretty nice restaurant. Came right after playing beach volleyball and I was starving. The ambience was fine, but coming on a Sunday afternoon I expected it to be more busy. There also seemed to be a slightly strange smell, but it went away after a little while. Also a little drafty in the restaurant, so a sweater would not hurt. The service was par, not bad but also not special. Same with the burgers. A little too well done for my liking, but that really depends on personal opinion. My boyfriend took me out for lunch to the big basin burger bar and I got the burger bowl, he had a burger and fries and a shake. The burger bowl came with quinoa and corn as well as spirilized carrots and cabbage. Underneath was arugula. On the side was a vinaigrette and there were also some roast peppers and I cut one up and mixed it in my salad. I liked they had the healthy option of the burger bowl. Service was good, friendly. So we were in Saratoga and jonesin' for a burger. My uncle who's a local suggested Big Basin (BBBB). Great recommend. This was a Thursday lunch and we pretty much had the place to ourselves - why I asked? Is this a Saratoga thing? Anyway, my wife had the Truffle Burger and I had the French Moo Burger. She went full truffle with truffle fries and I went garlic fries. The quality of the meat of both burgers was amazing. Now it says waygu on the menu (more on this later) and they patties were cooked to perfection. Perfect medium rare. Truffle Burger had just the right amount of truffle (you can overdo it) and the French Moo was a wonderful combination of burger, brie cheese and caramelized onions - nice hint of sweetness without being over the top. Fries had a nice crisp bite to them (why can't all fry places pull this off?). I had the Morena Mia Amber from Del Cielo Brewery - very nice amber lager. Service was very good - again it was slow so I would sort of expect that. Prices - not cheap. $22/burger but as they say you get what you pay for so waygu will be more expensive and it is Saratoga. I wasn't really hungry and only tried the two appetizers. Short rib poutine (4/5): as much as I like skinny fries on their own, this dish needed thicker fries to hold the gravy. It also needed more gravy and better cheese. The star was the short rib. It was tender and flavorful. Even the picky eater at our table kept coming back for the meat. Poké nachos (3/5): not the best but it grew on me. At first it seems like a poké salad dumped on top of tortilla chips. But I love nachos, and I still ate it. Wish it had more toppings though. SUPER dog friendly. Apparently, the owner has dogs herself and told servers to be very accommodating to pups. Lol, our dog got water before we did, which was very lovely of them. XD I will say though that the outdoor seating is very much ON the main street of downtown Saratoga. On the weekends, this means that there are a number of cars without mufflers and motorcycles drive right up alongside you since Big Basin Way is part of Highway 9. Everyway heading to Villa Montalvo, Hakone Gardens, hiking in the mountains/county parks, or going to Santa Cruz (if they're not taking Highway 17) is going to drive through here. This is mostly to say that, while we dealt with it, our dog was less than pleased even though we've walked him through downtown a few times without similar troubles. Big Basin Burger Bar is a local gourmet burger and sandwich place in downtown Saratoga. Super casual where people get their burger and have a beer or milkshake, but still very nice. Definitely one of the more affordable and casual places to eat on that street. They have some vegetarian, vegan, and pescatarian options (including the Impossible patty), but I would recommend that you (or whoever with who is on those diets) looking up their menu beforehand. They don't do reservations, so it's first come first serve. For parking, there's a lot in the back that runs parallel to Big Basin Street. If you're coming down Saratoga Sunnyvale Road, I would recommend turning into the 76 gas station and keep right as you drive inward to access the back. If you're coming from along Big Basin Way, try for one of the "alley" entrances. Overall, this is one of my dad's favorite burger places and I've never had a burger here that I didn't think was tasty. The menu is familiar enough to be comfortable with enough elevations to make it interesting. If you're in the mood for casual burgers and this far south in the Bay Area, I would recommend. Not a big deal, but I also asked to sub the chipotle aioli that came with it for garlic aioli, and they immediately agreed but then charged me extra without warning. For those trivia and OG'r nuts, in what originally was a pharmacy in the Saratoga downtown village, this suite has taken on a variety of businesses since those old days. It's current resident, Big Basin Burger Bar, is a welcome addition offering something else versus a "main street" that is lined almost exclusively with day-time boutiques, and non-burger restaurant establishments. BBBB was quiet at lunch time on this sleepy Fri in Nov 2024, which was kinda nice. Team is super nice and helpful. The menu / fare is very good. We went with the French Moo burger and the BLT Gobble Club. Now, what burger meal is complete without fries, so of course we had to get some as well. I was torn between their regular french fries and their sweet potato fries (a personal favorite of mine), but fortunately they provide a half & half option to get both so I didn't have to choose. The French Moo burger was an instant favorite with the symphony of flavors provided by the unique combination of creamy brie cheese, peppery arugula and salty pancetta. While I did enjoy their BLT Gobble Club overall, I did find the patty to be a bit dry (but to be fair it is turkey). In the future I'll likely go with one of their tried and true burger option instead of this sandwich. The prices are high for what you get, we got a turkey burger which was good but did not include a side, which is fine, but generally we've had fries or a small salad thrown in on the side. I knew with a place that had burger in the name Poké wasn't going to be there specialty but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and variety it offered.
