    Pleasant patio

Pleasant cafe with pleasant sandwiches made from good quality pleasant ingredients. The whole package is, you guessed it, pleasant, and maybe that's enough. Nothing really stood out but, be warned, a small soup and sandwich will cost you almost $25. No pricing is visible on the overhead menu board. I ate at the Winchester cafe (near The Garret) and discovered that The Purple Onion has a Los Gatos downtown location as well. I suspect we're getting that LG surcharge at the Winchester strip mall location. I debated between a 3 or 4 star review but landed on three due to no real desire to rush back plus the steep prices for simply serviceable food. To me this adds to three stars. Your opinion may vary, I've talked to locals who love this place.

Thai turkey sandwich with cucumbers and Brie with a double side salad. I took my husband's salad as well.

The Thai Turkey sandwich was cold. Cold Brie is tasteless. I had to point out that the little bit of sriracha mayo was being used to glue a slicer of Brie to the bread. They forgot the basil. They added it after I pointed it out, but you could do better and cheaper at a Subway. The side salad is sad and bagged with a meh dressing. For $20 a sandwich, you can do better than here.

Nope. If you like overpriced bland food (sandwich or soup) and pouty service, this is your place.

Ask the Community - Purple Onion Cafe

Did they remove the ham and egg croissant sandwich from their breakfast menu? It's no longer available on DoorDash.

Neither location is answering their phone and the email on the website is invalid. Are they still in business? Does anyone know how to reach them?

Definitely still in business on Feb 8, 2025! I enjoyed a meatloaf sandwich and tomato basil soup this afternoon

I've been here a few times, and I honestly don't know why I haven't reviewed this place yet…read more The moment you walk into Manresa Bread, you're greeted right away. The space has a modern yet warm feel with beautiful natural wood finishes, fresh loaves of sourdough lining the shelves, pastries displayed in the case, and a mix of large communal wood tables, regular seating, and high-top tables. It's the kind of café that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. The staff was friendly and helped us choose both a pastry and our toast. They were also happy to customize our order--we asked for the levain sourdough toast with butter instead of the usual olive oil. That toast was absolutely divine. The sourdough had the perfect balance: chewy without being too sour, with a crust that was crisp but not so hard that it fought back. Easily the best sourdough toast I've had in the Bay Area. If you come here, this is the one thing you have to order. The only disappointment was the butter. They serve French butter, but for an extra $2, the portion was tiny and honestly nothing special. I've had better butter from Whole Foods. It didn't take away from how incredible the bread was, but it wasn't worth the upcharge. Their Kouign-amann is also one of the best I've ever had. Instead of the typical flat, flaky style, theirs is taller with countless buttery layers that create an amazing texture. The cappuccino was another highlight. It had subtle notes of orange peel, whiskey, and cardamom, making it unique. The latte art was beautiful too. Overall, Manresa Bread is one of those cafés that makes you want to sit down with a laptop or a book and spend a few hours there. The only downside is there are no power outlets, so come with a full battery if you're planning to work. Must orders: Levain sourdough toast with butter and the Kouign-amann. Both are worth the trip.

Hey there Party People…read more I had heard of this place from friends so I decided to try it. I confused this place with another restaurant when I did my first review. So I want to set the record straight because Los Gatos Cafe was a really good experience. It's a small place but there are outside tables as well. You can order lunch at any time as well as breakfast. We started with Banana Chocolate Chip pancakes. Holy smokes they were the bomb. They had a ton of fresh bananas inside as well as a nice amount of chocolate chips on top. I had the Hot Turkey and Pear sandwich. I know the combo sounds weird but it was super tasty. The pear added crunch and sweetness to the sandwich. There was also a good dose of grilled onions to go with the owie gooey cheese....yum. Hubby had the Granite Flank Steak Sandwich . It was smothered in Gorgonzola cheese with a good portion of Flank Steak. The steak was tender and well seasoned. It was the perfect flavor bite. So going to add this place to the frequent flier list. Be kind to one another

I think you know what this is by now, so no need to repeat the ingredients. Got this with a salad and sandwich deal. This part was pretty good, but a little too much mayo for my liking (I needed a separate napkin just for the mayo). Garden Salad: 3/5. Not a big fan of iceberg lettuce.

The problem is that there isn't enough seating inside nor outside. So once you order your food, you have to eat in your car. Also if you are lucky enough to find a table, you're pretty much listening into the conversation of the people next to you because the tables are so close together. The guy next to me was talking so loud my colleague I ended up getting super annoyed. There is plenty of parking in the lot. The place is so small, I'm unsure if there are even restrooms in there.

I ordered the Thai Turkey sandwich which came with a side salad. I'm not sure what made the sandwich Thai other than the name but it was toasted and tasty. The salad was served directly on parchment paper on a tray - not my favorite presentation. And it was literally just greens with some shredded carrot and basic dressing. Price was okay but a little more than I would expect for a sandwich and bare bones side salad. I'd stop by again to sit outside and enjoy a lite bite.

I was there last time for their freshly cooked paella and it was impeccable. Recently we came back…read moretwice, once on Sunday as I forgot that the paella was a Friday thing, so the staff told me that they usually have paella and clam chowder freshly cooked on Friday. They happened to have a small tub of Friday clam chowder left for sale, for a whopping $16! That price dropped my rating to a 4 star. Service is still 5, but man, the value proposition isn't as high as before. The clam chowder tasted good, creamy and all, but $16 for that is really hard to swallow. The store itself is clean and sells a variety of meat products and imported goods such as from Italy. We came again on Friday evening, at 5pm exact and saw the paella pan laid outside with some amount of paella piled up. The pan felt cold and we were confused if they haven't started cooking or those were the left over. So we went inside to ask and they said the paella was available starting at 5pm, so what's on the pan was cooked. We bought 1 portion, which feeds 2-3 and it came in two 16 oz tubs. For $35, it fed my husband and myself just right. The smoky flavor was on the rice with meat and lots of clams and mussels (but not those fatty mussels that you saw in the Belgium style dish). $35 for dinner of two is not as bad value as the $16 bowl of chowder. So overall, 3.5-4 stars for food and value, 5 stars for service and friendliness.
