I would give Super Duper in Los Gatos two stars. The staff was fine, but the food was disappointing. The burger looked okay at first, but the meat did not taste right to me. It felt too soft and loose, and a lot of liquid kept dripping out while I was eating. My hands got messy very quickly, and the burger was much greasier than I expected. The flavor was not great, and the meat did not feel like good quality. The tables and chairs were also not very comfortable, and the restroom was not clean during my visit. I haven't been to Super Duper in quite some time, but had a craving for a good burger last Sunday. I had the double burger and it tasted better than I remember, more of a smashed style than I recall previously. Their in-house made pickles were also a lot more tasty and flavorful with a spicy kick to them. Their in-house made fries are pretty good, but the portions are small - my waistline isn't complaining though The order process is not via an electronic terminal and was much quicker than I remember. Pros: - Simplified menu of burgers (Super Duper with 2 patties, and mini with 1 patty), chicken sandwiches, and shakes! The slight edge is the beers, wine, and spiked milkshake, which gives a unique plus to Super Duper vs the other burgers. Personally enjoyed the chicken sandwich, but be careful of the spicy ones as it will definitely burn! Also loved free pickles straight from the pickle jar! - Plenty of seating with a few TV (wished there were more!) and a foosball table. Great for big parties, especially since you order via console. - Plenty of parking with Philz coffee and Starbucks next door, whole foods+CVS across the street, which makes it a convenient location. Cons: - Food takes a little bit to come out. I'm assuming since its all fresh and made to order, but would budget some time for hungry kids - Drinks are in glasses by default and would need to ask for a to-go cup and straw. Not many know to do this, so wanted to put this as tip. - No combo meals except a season special occasionally. We used to come here for burgers and chocolate dipped soft serve when our daughter was younger, before we moved away. It's the first time we came here after we moved back to the area last year. It's nostalgic seeing the communal tables, stools and pickle jars inside. I was delighted to see they had a Boys & Girls Clubs donation box, showing that they cared about our community. It happened to be what I was looking for as well. I signed up for email/text to get 20% off and ordered online before heading over. I loved my veggie truffle burger, which had loads of portobello mushrooms and a mild truffle aroma. It was very flavorful, best to be enjoyed with a piece of their dill pickles, even though my usual pickle preference was sweet gherkins. My husband's grilled chicken in his sandwich looked really dry, but he said it was ok eating together with the fixings inside. We also shared an order of garlic fries. The fries seemed to be a bit undercooked and it's too messy to eat without forks. Would stick with regular fries or save room for dessert instead next time. It's been a handful of years since we've been to Super Duper and decided to have a quick lunch here. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and my wife had a truffle veggie burger and we shared garlic fries. While the chicken was to be honest dry, the overall effect wasn't a dry sandwich because the tomato was juicy, the sauce moistened things up, so it was totally fine/good. It looked to me like they sliced the chicken breast in half to make two thinner pieces. Probably want to make sure they don't serve undercooked chicken, which is fine with me. My wife seemed to enjoy her burger. Foodwise, the only slight disappointment was the garlic fries. They were a bit either undercooked or too long out of the fryer - they were fairly cold and kind of soggy. Taste was fine though. Service was good and it's a homey/pleasant place to hang out and grab a bite. We'd come back again - overall experience was good. I do wish they used yellow or white onions for the grilled onions instead of red onions as I hate red onions, but the burger was still good. I wish as much detail had been put into the fries as the burger. My husband and I shared the garlic cheese fries and they were incredibly disappointing. I expected actual garlic pieces in the fries. I think they just drizzled them in garlic oil. They were incredibly greasy and soggy. And the cheese on them was good, but it did not stick to the cheese and was not melted to them very well. I had a few, but they really weren't worth finishing. My husband rated them as "edible". This feels like the type of place that should be serving specialty type sodas or aguas Frescas. Mt husband was happy with his Arnold Palmer, I just got a regular fountain drink. The seating is very uncomfortable and it's very loud inside. As soon as I was done I hurried out of there as the environment is just overwhelming and seats unbearable. The pickles are good, but I wish they had less spice and were sliced in a way that made them easier to stack on the burgers. I'd definitely order a burger to go in the future. My wife and I used to come to this Super Duper Burger location before for their milkshakes and fries, which are good. Their burgers are good too. I got the seasonal drink. *Blueberry Millshake: Straus Organic vanilla soft serve ice cream, fresh blueberries, shortcake crumbs (4/5). *French Fries (4/5) - nice and golden fried with a crispy outside. Parking is ok in this strip mall. The place is fairly large and spacious. They have outside seating also. But, the inside seating is air-conditioned. LOL. I stopped by Super Duper looking for the delicious and fast burger which Super Duper reliably supplies. The space is large with high ceilings and exposed beams with overhead ducting in a modern post industrial style. Lots of TVs and piped in pop music to fill the room. The ordering system is designed to eliminate interacting with an actual human - kiosk screens, pagers to alert you, plus tray pickup at a counter. Fill your own glass and add your own condiments at convenient islands. Bus your own table. Absolutely no need to talk to anyone and I didn't. We are seeing more of this in the South Bay and I find it impersonal but maybe some folks like it? Maybe this is good for the many young families I saw today? I really wanted to like this place. I was here with friends who were raving about it, but I found that it was not, in fact, Super Duper. I really wanted to feel okay spending $20 for a bacon cheeseburger and an iced tea. But it's the Bay Area. There are no deals left here. You're paying $7 a gallon for gas, $7 a cup for coffee, and $4000 for a one bedroom apartment. $20 burger is the base standard to pay your employees even minimum wage. The ordering was quick (I ordered from a person rather than using a kiosk), the service was fast, there was the decor I'd expect from every bay area place: Asymmetric tree-slab tables and metal stools -- the same branding and decor you'd expect from Jeffrey's in Menlo Park, Jack's Prime in San Mateo, Kirk's Steakburgers in Palo Alto, Freewheel Brewing Company in Atherton. At this the decor is pretty much cookie-cutter, like how every chinese restaurant has the same zodiac placemats and the chopsticks with the paper instructions that tell you "now you can pick up anything!", and how every pizza restaurant...wait, it's the SFBA, let's not discuss Pizza. Yes, Super Duper Burger has the Portlandia ketchup and the homemade pickles (such bougie, much hipster, wow). But the novelty of a "smash burger"? I don't get it. Yeah, I'd like to take everything good about a cheeseburger and make it feel like it was left on a hot street, run over with a steamroller, and then pried off the asphalt, texture to match. Delicious burgers, addictive pickles and the most satisfying Straus Creamery soft serve icecream! We always stop here after a visit to Vasona Park ( the train ride is a lot of fun). Service is quick. You can either use the self serve kiosk or order at the register. Even when lines are long, the service is quick. The seating is open and the pickles are free! ;) Clean and cool on a hot day! It was my first time going here, I was with my 4 year old son, the place is filled with balloons and colorful paper ribbons. Right next to the machine where I'm placing the order there's a stand with balloons and ribbons, my son just touched one of them. He did not pulled, shakes or tried to brake it. I had just started to see the screen and it took a second for a team member to come ask him not to touch it. I just left. This is not a family friendly place. Was looking for a spot for lunch as I was in the area for work. One my friends recommended this spot and was so happy he suggested it. It felt like I was going to old burger joint that you can get a classic burger but ther was so much more on the menu. Got a bison burger with cheese fries. Shared a shake as well with friend. I'm not sure where the overall star level is coming from. Their burgers are the best fast food burgers around. Their fries are very good as well (though I prefer a slightly slimmer fry). The prices are expensive, but not outside of what other places are charging for similar products. I have been here a few times. Food was decent the first few times but today I ordered a chicken sandwich that came out completely burnt. I asked the staff to remake it and was told it would come out the same because the oil is burnt and won't be changed until tomorrow. They swapped it out for a burger, which was actually pretty good, but I don't see the chicken sandwich being taken off the menu. I don't live in Los Gatos, but I was in town for work (I live three hours away!) and was recommended this place by a coworker. Let me tell you....it did not disappoint! I'm a big fan of garlic fries, so I had to try them, and I added bacon for an extra touch. I also ordered the mini burger with mushrooms and cheese. At first, I thought the mini burger might be too small, more like a slider, but it was actually the perfect size! When my food arrived, I was immediately impressed by both the presentation and the quality. Everything looked amazing, and the taste was even better! so freaking delicious! If I lived in Los Gatos, I'd probably be here once a week... so maybe it's a good thing I don't live closer! One unique thing I noticed was their pickle section. I've never seen that before! My husband is a huge pickle lover, so I had to snap a picture and send it to him, haha. I tried some, and they had a great crunchy bite to them. I love that you can customize your burger (love adding avocado to mine!). The ketchup is literally the best, tastes like they freshly crushed the tomatoes in the back. And LOVE the sweet pickles! On certain things, the burger seems like it should be perfect: the patties have a good color, they are juicy... And yet the whole seems to be less than it should be; something is a bit off for me. I'm not sure if it's because the patties are not seasoned enough or if it's because of the cooking. This taste really stands out to me with the Super Burger (2 patties) without any cheese. Given how popular the burgers are with others, quantifying what may be purely a taste preference may not be helpful, unless you read through all my burger reviews. The current seasonal offering, the Big Bay Burger, has Bbq sauce, secret pickle relish, cheddar cheese, crispy onions, grilled jalapeños, grilled onions. Compared to the Super Burger I found it to be very good, precisely because of all of the toppings which gave the burger its overall taste. I have also had both the fried chicken sandwich and the (griddled) chicken sandwich- the chicken meat is good but the chicken sandwiches overall don't appeal to me either. The pickles which apparently are produced are in-house are ok, not sour enough or pickled long enough for me. A short pickling time may be a problem because they are consumed so quickly, so I don't know what could be done about that... Service is great, and there is plenty of seating and parking spaces. I've never had trouble finding either whenever I visit. It can get quite loud though, especially if there are kids playing at the foosball table. I enjoy the background music as it's a good mix, including songs from the 70s and 80s. It is a good spot if you just want to chill there a while with your friends. read more
