Awesome place to stay and within easy walking distance of the downtown area for great food and drinks. Would definitely stay here again.

It is a short walk to the downtown area and the staff is great here. It was a really nice touch that they provide a complimentary breakfast and dinner. They have a lot of fun things to do there too, on a daily basis, like yoga, ping pong, pool. We would definitely recommend this place!

Actually, I would have given it more if I were to compare it with a shared room hostel standard but for a private room experience.. this is the highest I could give. I got a private room with shared bathroom. The bathroom was right next to my room so it's pretty comfortable. Water took quite long to heat up despite I turned the H tap to full. The water draining was also working terribly. I showered with my feet flooded. The hostel looked clean in general. There were people cleaning the common area everyday. However, if you look deeply, for example, my room, it's actually full of dust. I assume they just change bed sheets and do general floor cleaning but leave other space untouched. I wanted to close the curtain and a pile of dust just flew up and made me sneeze. Btw, the bedsheet was not clean either. There was a lot of hair of different colors and length. I was very uncomfortable that I used my own clothes to make another layer before I slept. On the second night there was a cockroach-size insect running in the restroom and a very big ant (? - let say an insect) in my room! I know it's Big Bear national park in summer, but I'd expect them to at least apply some insect prevention to human living space.. Breakfast was amazing for a hostel - eggs, bread, jam, peanut butter, milk, waffles (you have to make it - they provide ingredients), tea, coffee. I totally suggest making waffles - it's very quick and easy. Kitchen was very good, just like advertised. They have a lot of everything to use and also dish soap to clean. You're supposed to clean your dishes yourself but I saw a lot of guests left their dirt though. Big fridge. Milk was left in the fridge all day for free from the morning. They advertised that they have free dinner and that made me thought it's everyday - no they didn't! Free bbq and tacos are only on Sun and Tue. This was extremely misleading! The activity board was also another weird thing. In the morning the staff messaged in the whatsapp group about the hike. I replied and no one replied me until the time came I showed up and they said it's a do-it-yourself hike.. so basically they only suggested you what to do and that's it. I remembered upon check-in the staff showed me the board saying "we have a lot of activities".. suggested activities and you go do it by yourself. They have like 6-7 parking spots in front of the hostel. Reception won't open until 4pm but I felt like staff were around all the time. They're not responsive in messenger app/social media but if you walk up to them and ask, they will be helpful and friendly and approachable. There was a hot tub but I didn't feel like going in due to the overall cleanliness of the hostel. Location was very good tho. The Big Bear village is a few minutes walk. Common areas are very good. They have board games and many kinds of sitting/lying down furnitures. I love that they have piano and guitar too. And people respect the quiet time, after that hours, everything was quiet. The only sound I heard after closing all the windows was some random cars passing by the street, otherwise it's very quiet (forest sound doesn't count). Maybe my expectation was too high from their advertisement and all the good reviews. It's probably worth it for a shared hostel bed but for a $120+ private room, I expected something much cleaner at least.

The heater in the bathroom also turned off after a while, so if you were in the shower too long (5 min +) you didn't get that nice heat when you stepped out. Also it was hard to get to the opposite side of the Queen bed, since the end of it was almost right up against the wall, we just ended up hopping over each other. I loved that upon walking into the main office, I was greeted by two beautiful dogs, and a wide selection of VHS tapes to play in our room! I also loved the DirectTV, the fireplace complete with firewood and fire starters, and the full kitchen packed with cookware and appliances! This place exceeded my expectations through and through. The heater did a great job heating the place up when there wasn't a fire, and I also loved that there was even a heater in the bathroom so that we wouldn't freeze upon climbing out of the shower! Plus the temp and water pressure was amazing. Also this place is dog friendly, what more could you ask! I would definitely stay here again

Really enjoyed our ladies only moto overnighter here at Honey Bear!…read moreMy friend did an awesome job of booking the lodge loft to sleep 5 of us. We also had 2 other rooms booked in our party as well. Honey Bear is super close walking distance to get to the Village! There's nothing like fresh air, beautiful views when we step outside of our room, and close proximity to the essentials. Our loft lodge was spacious for the 5 of us. One bathroom- and plenty of toilet paper. LOL. Mini fridge/ coffee pot/ and microwave are inside the room. Wish I paid more attention to the microwave inside the room! There's an ice machine available inside the lobby. But remember, access to it is only during lobby hours of operation. We had some time to burn before the check in time- and before our motorcycle ride up the mountain- we did have lunch nearby. With that being said- after lunch, we still had some time to burn. Had no idea about the picnic area provided by the lodge! (This is what happens when I don't look at the property online). But, tons of picnic tables with shade umbrellas and not to mention the amount of abundant shade provided by the trees. I loved this property so much, I booked an overnighter for hubby & I.

Good Wi-Fi even when the hotel was full. At a quiet time of the night, we received 80 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. There are just enough parking spaces. The second-floor room had a very high ceiling. No air conditioning. They recommended leaving windows open at night to cool down. An open window works well, if hotel guests in the barbecue area are quiet and you do not have allergies. The housekeeper had not removed the previous guest's food from the fridge or emptied the trash can on the walkway outside the room. There were maintenance issues; management addressed them promptly so no need to repeat them here. Management stated that they were short-staffed.

I'll sum this up pretty quickly though. - Expensive ($350/night) ** we were looking for a place last minute and this is why we stayed here. ** - Heater is the wall style and was not on/working when we arrived. We had to call the guy to light the pilot. It also went out through the night, so that sucked. - There is no phone in the room to call concierge and they didn't answer their phone when call from my mobile. - Rooms are dingy to say the best. Sooo outdated and the beds have to be at least 10 years old. - There was 1, yes a SINGLE hanger in the closet and it was one of those freebies from a dry cleaner. Previous person probably left it. - TV didn't work Oh and here is the kicker. I went to speak to management to ask for some sort of discount (even $50 would have been fine) and he tells me. Go ahead and leave a bad review. Yeah... then I looked it up and saw they have 1.5 stars... I get it. Why would you care if your reviewed are already shit. Final Thoughts: Skip it and find something else... if you can.

I should've looked at the reviews before booking....the other reviews are right and this is by far the most ghetto hotel I've ever been in!! Cons: -Graffiti and cracks on the windows. -Hallway lights didn't come on until late in the night and I couldn't see anything. -Uneven pavement, unsafe if it's dark. -Limited parking space. -Outdated, creepy furniture with an attic in our room. -Hot water didn't come on. -WiFi not working. We just skipped the shower at night, since the hot water didn't work. This hotel clearly doesn't care about their customers. I have safety concerns about this place. I'm sure there's mold here since I've been coughing. Also, i almost ate it trying to navigate up and down the hallway stairs at night. For $200 a night, it's so not worth it!! I'd rather pay extra to be somewhere else!! The only con is the location, it's close to all the shops and restaurants. Never again!! Stay away!!
