We visited the area in November so we did not need any air conditioning, however our spa suite had a big ceiling fan and it was clean. After looking at the reviews we almost booked somewhere else but then I read people were happy in the spa suites because they have been renovated. Also, I had a friend who stayed here years ago. I believe the owners are trying to make the experience better with the renovated rooms. We do not think they need the spa tub; we would have removed them. Our suite was #20 which faced the highway. We gave 4 stars for 2 reasons. First, there is the loud street; so if you can sleep through it like my husband then your Super. Thank goodness for white noise from YouTube! I was able to sleep through the night by playing the white noise. Second, we can smell dog poop in the front right side of this lodge. It's pretty strong and we think all they need to do is pick it all up in this gated fence area and poor enzymes over it to get rid of it. Again, it's gated, so it's not from neighbor dogs. The pros, the breakfast area is big and nice and they do provide hard boiled eggs, waffles and bagels, no fruit but juice. We choose to walk across the street the Big Bear roasting coffee company. They make great ham and cheese croissants, pastries and amazing coffee plus great ambiance. We also walked to the lake and The Village. And our room had tall ceilings and lots of light, with a French country style.

Lmao well here's a new review to your response. You say we checked out happily and had no problems with the room. Please explain why anyone would check out a day early if they were happy with our stay? And of course no one rented that room. That's because your hotel is the dirtiest ghetto part of big bear and nicer hotels are down the street. Also the gentleman you're referring to is my fiance. I know for a fact that he didn't say that our dogs brought in the spider. These dogs have traveled the world and never once brought in a spider to a hotel room, car, home, etc. The spider was there because you guys don't clean your rooms. Take responsibility. Also for anyone reading, these people didn't like my review so charged me an extra 140.00. They saved my credit card information and used it against my consent. Currently in a dispute.

This place could be great but its been neglected. Our chalet smelled of burnt wood and was smoky throughout the unit. The hot water in the shower only works if NO ONE ELSE in the building is showering also. The mattresses are all of different quality, most needing to be changed. Blackout curtains for the windows would be nice - it gets bright inside. We did have a good check in and the man at the front desk was very nice and gave us a new coffee maker to replace the one we had - it was missing a basket. The microwave had no glass plate. The whirlpool was nice but the jets were broken. Th location is great, central to everything near the lake and the main street.

    This is what I booked

You denied my refund until I contacted various sources to go after my refund of the two days I did not stay. And yes, I didn't want to stay there after being given a room I did not book and was not clean. Thank you for the refund. And no I wasn't not given an opportunity to upgrade a room, I was told they could move me to the room I have already booked but didn't get the initial check in. I tried to give it a chance, that's why I didn't immediately complain because I have never left a hotel in my life. After spending time in the room, no I couldn't do another night. I can post the 2 days of emails denying me a refund if you'd like

The customer service is great very willing to help, the rooms are nice but the bed was a bit uncomfortable, being across from the fire station is unfortunate if you are a light sleeper I wouldn't recommend.

    Dirty, old, ripped couches.

The older lady at the front desk is very rude and disrespectful. They also practice false advertisement regarding breakfas. They advertise that they provide breakfast but it's not an actual breakfast, it's a continental breakfast and only provide muffins, coffee, and other baked stuff. Also, I notified them that the shower in room 11 was clogged and they didn't care. The window from the shower was way too high and I was unable to open i because it was way too high, and it's a safety hazard. I fell in the tub and hurt my head, paramedics and firefighters had to come assist me. I like that it was pet friendly here abut was still charged for my service pet. Then the lady from the front desk violated my rights and asked me what was wrong with me that I needed a service pet and charged me. She said I look fine and that I was a liar. She said I need to charge you because you're not having a seizure right now with so much sarcasm. The sofas in room 11 were very damaged and ripped. The towels were stale, dirty stained, there was also a ring around the tub from not being cleaned properly. The towels were very disgusting as well as the toilet. No shampoo either. I give this place 1/2 a star. Couches are ripped and dirty. Tub in room 11 is clogged. The shower window is way too high. Dirty place, the bed sheets had sand on them. Front desk reception tends to get nasty with customers. Very combative, disrespectful, andunprofessional. I called the front desk this morning again at 6:30 AM because we need to shower and get ready but the tub is still clogged and the water is freezing cold. The gentleman at the front desk answered and said "yeah, yeah, whatever, I'll let the maintenance guy know whenever he's up." He claimed to be the manager. He said "I saw your reviews and you fell in the shower and hit your head and called paramedics, just check out and let's part ways." I told him that our room is reserved and paid for tomorrow as well and explained to him that he shouldn't be kicking me out in the early morning just because I'm bringing an issue up to their attention, and I have my children here with me. He is kicking me in my children out just because I fell and I reported the clogged tub. he said that he is demanding a police report. I asked him if I can speak to someone that can please help me and he said you can speak to Rita at 10 in the morning when she arrives and with sarcasm said you can tell her everything. Never been to a place where staff are so rude and disrespectful, and threaten to kick me hbout because of an accident and I have my kids, sad I have requested a refund for my service animal fee that was charged upon admission and they are refusing to refund us. No fee should be charged for a service pet.

It was a lovely stay! Protein will be added to continental breakfast! Woke up to winter wonderland! Enjoyed the views and exploring the village.

The absolute worst!! The room wasn't prepared and it was old and outdated. The pictures on the website do not reflect reality. Price is not commensurate with the accommodations. Major renovations needed. This lodge is pretty run down and is not worth the money I paid. The comforter was dirty (stains) and needed changed. They have sliding glass doors with sort of see through curtains and rooms face each other. The vent in bathroom was hanging. The lights were unplugged and had to change out bulbs to have proper lighting. I would not recommend this place. Cobwebs everywhere. Positives: they had ice for my cooler and close to the village area 10 min walk. Would not recommend it to anyone.

How did they get to 3 stars average. Nice reception hall though. 1. No A/C 2. Fan to be picked from reception 3. No "do not disturb sign " 4. No closet no hangers. 5. Bed and night stand are built from logs and uneven everything will slide including you. 6 view is trash yard depends on location. 7. No Ice just cold coffee 8. A lot more expensive than other luxury or at least better. 9. Hardwood floors that were cleaned on the 50's. I'll post my socks pictures. 10. No shelves in the mini fridge. 11. Ample amount of graffiti. 12. I doubt if the housekeeping department exists. 13. No phones. 14. Internet is great hahhahaaa 15 claimed to have in cabin spa in which it was a stand up shower in my case. Few "feet" quarter mile max distance between hotels with kitchen and stuff right by the lake cheaper or equivalent price. The sad part is there is no door to the cabin you just enter from the side patio that is a glass sliding door with key holes that we made in swap meet.

Downstairs you pass a little drawbridge with a "moat" (with water!) to a dining area with long table where the kitchenette area is, replete with ice machine, Brita pitcher, sink, mini fridge, microwave, keurig and a restroom. Upstairs is the bedroom, with a gargoyle overlooking and statue of king and queen. Some of the lights and sconces are broken or missing, the knight no longer works. We were tripping out hard when I flipped the switches by the swing and the blue lights and moat began spewing water down fountain by the kitchen. This was amazing. I was literally jumping up and down when we entered the place. I am so impressed by how cool this place is, even with the things over time that have fallen into disrepair the detail overall is nothing short of impressive. Not sure how anyone can complain about something like this. The shower head has a rainfall head, the stones in the shower, to the shape of the mirror, it was all intentional. I saw nothing "icky" in selecting the specific stone-like accoutrements to complement the theme. There's a tv in the bedroom but why would you even wanna watch tv in a castle garden? COME ON! You cannot set any apts. up until 24 hrs before your stay. Okay, fine we can outsource the massages, plus it was too late to cancel without losing money. Also 24 hours before check in they send you a message requesting you to pre-register by texting another number. I did and received no responce. It's fine we'll go early and do it in person. We get there to check-in and there is a sign at the front desk, "please text this number for check in. We are helping other guests." Okay, fair we were a bit early (about 50 min). I send off a message. We go off to get some food and wait for a responce. NOTHING! We came back to the hotel after 4 and the same sign was there. Onto the pool. Sign on the door..... pool closes at 6pm. HUH???? At that point we just went back to the room. Tucked in for the night. NEXT MORNING! Went to use the restroom and noticed either blood or poop SMEARED ON THE WALL directly across from the toilet under the towels. YUCK!!! Spouse tried to use the coffe maker in the room and it wouldn't work. Now, I have just about had it. As we were getting dressed to go address everything with the manager, we were both half naked and A STAFF MEMBER WALKS RIGHT INTO OUR ROOM!!!!! ABSOLUTELY DONE! Screamed at him to get out. Now our saftey is in question. We packed our bags and got a refund! This was by far the MOST HORRIFIC experience I have ever had. If I could give no stars I would. Our check-in time was 3:00 pm, and we arrived around 3:30 pm with three tired kids hoping to settle in quickly. Unfortunately, our room wasn't ready, so we waited in the lobby. At 4:00 pm we were assigned a room, but it still wasn't finished -- no sheets on the beds, no pillowcases, crumbs in the sink, and hair in the bathroom like someone had recently shaved. It seemed like there was miscommunication between the front desk and housekeeping. We finally got into a fully cleaned room around 4:30 pm. After a long day of traveling with kids, it was definitely disappointing. That said, the staff members who were working truly made a difference. Joshua, who checked us in, was very apologetic. He was the only person working the front desk at the time. He stayed professional the entire time. A huge shoutout also goes to Edwin, who was working unbelievably hard. We saw him helping with rooms, assisting at breakfast, and keeping things running smoothly. His work ethic really stood out and he deserves recognition. Once we settled in, the hotel had lots of positives: The complimentary s'mores kits were a big hit with the kids. Each kit included four marshmallows, one Hershey's bar, and four graham crackers, wrapped in a festive Thanksgiving bag. The outdoor fireplace courtyard is huge and made the experience even better. This was especially great because the little town of Big Bear tends to close early, so having this activity at the hotel was perfect. The pool area was clean and well maintained, which is also perfect option for family with kids (just a way to entertain them while having fun). The complimentary breakfast was also surprisingly good. The waffles were awesome, and there were plenty of options like cereal, oatmeal, eggs, and potatoes. I would love to see a few more condiments added (like mayonnaise or mustard), but overall it was a great breakfast spread. The room layout was spacious, very comfortable, and perfect for a family. Despite the rocky start at check-in, the hotel has a lot of charm, great amenities, and truly hardworking staff members who care.

It was huge and the water was always super hot and the shower was hot right when I got out of the tub. A little soap goes a very long way with bubbles, proceed with caution. The room and the spa were very clean, there was a sticker on the door with the name of the person and the date that our room was sanitized which was reassuring to me. Once inside it smelled clean and everything looked clean. I did take a bottle of Odoban and did a once over but it was during COVID paranoia. Whenever I stay anywhere I strip the bed and put on my own sheets and blanket but when tearing the bed apart our white linens were very white and clean. I read reviews about a rouge hair or two and myself having very long dark hair I find it silly that it would be a huge deal, even in the most immaculate environment one is bound to pop up, trust me, I know but I understand with COVID everyone needs to be on top of their game with cleanliness. I found the location to be really convenient, it was close to everything we wanted to do. We had several exchanges with the owner, we checked in after midnight and she was friendly and professional. Since we were both working remotely due to COVID we decided we wouod like to stay another night if they could accommodate us and she was very courteous and made the process easy and that extra night actually turned into 3 extra nights! I suppose one could find the rooms dated, I personally felt like they were cute and cozy and felt cabin like,I didn't mind the decor at all. We stayed in cabin 16, I was able to scope out 17 and has been updated recently and is more modern. They both cost the same so I would probably go with 17 it's really the best bang for your buck. Finding our cabin at night was fairly difficult if you are able to check in during the day I would definitely say do that. We eventually found our cabin, they all look the same and aren't marked terribly well. The parking is a bit tight I came straight from buying a new fairly expensive car so I had to park a few different times until I was satisfied I would avoid a door ding but that was probably new car paranoia and if you don't arrive after midnight like a dummy you'll probably have a better chance at choice parking. Once in the cabin I saw there was one of those QR codes on the wall for you to scan and when you do they offer a coupon code that can't be applied retroactively of course so I was kinda bummed by that because it only required a 3 day stay to receive the discount and we stayed over twice that long so perhaps it could have been offered. I found it online as well so before you book look online for coupon codes because they're available. I found booking straight from their website was less expensive than Expedia and the other travel sites. For the price I think this place is unbeatable. Just when you thought I was going to shut up I pop back up... I forgot to mention that one night a family checked into one of the family cabins and they were out until after 10 pm and they were loud eventually I called Cathy at the number she provides for you to call if you need anything and within 5 minutes she had sent someone to take care of the issue. I'm not sure if any of the cabins are pet friendly but I know that the one we stayed in was not and that was really the biggest issue we had. I have a 4 pound Yorkie with separation anxiety and he's grown quite accustomed to going everywhere with me so we had to hire a pet sitter and I really missed my Lil guy! I wish they allowed pets of a certain size with a deposit. Other than that I can't wait until it's time to go back. We went in the last week of April for my birthday and the weather was perfect. Not too cold but you still definitely get that mountain experience and since it's the off season everything is very affordable. Remember to look for that coupon code online and to book through their direct website and the price is unreal.

Horrible experience. Won't be back. Reserved one room upstairs with a patio/balcony. Was given a…read moreroom on the street with a narrow 4 steps to the cabin. No porch or anything. We complained and was told that they had the right to change us. It's not in their written policies anywhere. This room was substandard, especially to the one we actually booked. The mini blind were threaded, broken and dirty the table was beat up and not stable, the cost rack was in front of the window. And was not stable to move plus that was the only place to hang clothing. No drawers The mini sofa at the end of the bed was torn and poked your behind if you sat on it. Everything is done by text message, yet conflicts aren't resolved. It was our ;9 wedding anniversary. We were deeply dissapointed after reading other's posit reviews. We won't be back

I absolutely loved that there was a spot to do yoga or other movement classes! If you want to do a complete wellness day, you can take your mat to this beautiful open deck area (where your mat is shaded) and you have some mirrors. Once you finish your class, there's a sauna and cold plunge available to use to complete the perfect session! I didn't get to use the lodge much as I was visiting solo this time, but would love to use that nice big kitchen and the pool table next time This place is not super big, so everything is very walkable and in close proximity to each other! You can drive, walk, or even ride your bike to other restaurants and activities near by if you aren't too busy playing corn hole or lounging in the hammocks

Frank, the owner, is one of those rare people who is truly hands-on and genuinely cares about his guests. From the moment we arrived, he was communicative, kind, and incredibly attentive. You can tell this isn't just a business to him -- it's personal. What really stood out was his integrity. During our January stay, he went above and beyond to make sure our family was comfortable and taken care of, and he generously invited us back again in February. That level of hospitality and follow-through is something you just don't see often anymore. The space itself is peaceful, cozy, and perfect for a Big Bear getaway, but honestly, it's Frank's heart and character that make the place special. If you're looking for somewhere you can trust -- not just a place to sleep -- this is it. We'll definitely be back.
