We booked online and stayed here one night. I booked here mostly for it being pet friendly. The unit was nice and large and the worker helping us was nice. However, most units, including ours had NO air conditioning, which means that our unit was super hot! I woke up multiple times through the night sweating, to the point that I had to open the door to let cool air in at 3am. The front office worker said that the rooms are generally cool, which wasn't true. Reconsider booking if it's summer, unless you want to sleep in a stuffy sauna. Also note that the rooms are right next to the busy highway, so it's loud, even in the middle of the night. read more

I spent over $300.00 for a room at Black Forest Lodge. The room is very dark. The wallpaper is hideous. Their air conditioner is messed up. The bathroom sink faucet is broken. They didn't have cream or sugar with the bad coffee they provided. I had to walk up 2 flights of stairs and they were all booked up at the lodge. So I got the left over. I noticed that the carpets were filthy, grungy. It really smells. Oh and the bed is very, very uncomfortable. I felt the bed springs when I slept, which I tossed and turned all night. I couldn't sleep anymore because of my back pain sleeping on this bed. The wallpaper is hideous, gross, and outdated. And so is the carpeting. The room needs a TOTAL RENOVATION. I usually give positive reviews, but I couldn't with this lodge. It's the worst place I've stayed in. Definitely will not coming back. read more

We visited the area in November so we did not need any air conditioning, however our spa suite had a big ceiling fan and it was clean. After looking at the reviews we almost booked somewhere else but then I read people were happy in the spa suites because they have been renovated. Also, I had a friend who stayed here years ago. I believe the owners are trying to make the experience better with the renovated rooms. We do not think they need the spa tub; we would have removed them. Our suite was #20 which faced the highway. We gave 4 stars for 2 reasons. First, there is the loud street; so if you can sleep through it like my husband then your Super. Thank goodness for white noise from YouTube! I was able to sleep through the night by playing the white noise. Second, we can smell dog poop in the front right side of this lodge. It's pretty strong and we think all they need to do is pick it all up in this gated fence area and poor enzymes over it to get rid of it. Again, it's gated, so it's not from neighbor dogs. The pros, the breakfast area is big and nice and they do provide hard boiled eggs, waffles and bagels, no fruit but juice. We choose to walk across the street the Big Bear roasting coffee company. They make great ham and cheese croissants, pastries and amazing coffee plus great ambiance. We also walked to the lake and The Village. And our room had tall ceilings and lots of light, with a French country style. read more

This place could be great but its been neglected. Our chalet smelled of burnt wood and was smoky throughout the unit. The hot water in the shower only works if NO ONE ELSE in the building is showering also. The mattresses are all of different quality, most needing to be changed. Blackout curtains for the windows would be nice - it gets bright inside. We did have a good check in and the man at the front desk was very nice and gave us a new coffee maker to replace the one we had - it was missing a basket. The microwave had no glass plate. The whirlpool was nice but the jets were broken. Th location is great, central to everything near the lake and the main street. read more

We stayed here with our family timeshare. It was nice and clean. Not a huge space or anything. But it got the job done. We had a couple rooms and bathrooms. There was a nice big window in our cabin, so we could watch the snow fall. The heater worked really well. The cabin had basically everything you could need. Came with glasses int he kitchen, hair dryer in the bathroom and the usual complementary soaps/ shampoos/ conditioners. The location was perfect. Close enough to the main drag that it only took 5 minutes to get to town, but far enough that we didn't have to deal with traffic. We had a pleasant experience. Checking and checking out was easy. It was very quiet when we stayed there. Such a great place to stay for the weekend, to get away from everyone and just enjoy some quiet time. read more

I am unsure how this hotel has anything more than 1 star. The pictures are an absolute lie. I have actually never stayed in a hotel this bad. The bed squeaking, neighbors screams, and every sound heard throughout the entire unit. Do not come here, seriously.... Update: management refused to talk to me. We now have sort of rash/ infection on our feet and body. The bed we contaminate. Yes this place needs updates but I loved staying here! It's cute, quiet, quaint and has a European charm. They have a wide assortment of rooms and styles. They have wood for your fire, hot tub, a cute lobby with games, a free breakfast room, and not too pricy. Towels were terrible so I was so glad I brought my own towel and robe for the hot tub. I made a booking error and booked the wrong day but they worked with me and we were still able to go. There are rooms with saunas but they also have a public pool and hot tub. Staff were nice, breakfast included, very close to the downtown strip. Many AirBnBs with hot tubs mentioned that they took a long time to fill and that you needed multiple sessions to fill the tub, but the water here was plenty hot to fill the whole thing. Couldn't say it is the cleanest place or the quietest, but I'm willing to overlook that since they were willing to overlook my scheduling error read more

The older lady at the front desk is very rude and disrespectful. They also practice false advertisement regarding breakfas. They advertise that they provide breakfast but it's not an actual breakfast, it's a continental breakfast and only provide muffins, coffee, and other baked stuff. Also, I notified them that the shower in room 11 was clogged and they didn't care. The window from the shower was way too high and I was unable to open i because it was way too high, and it's a safety hazard. I fell in the tub and hurt my head, paramedics and firefighters had to come assist me. I like that it was pet friendly here abut was still charged for my service pet. Then the lady from the front desk violated my rights and asked me what was wrong with me that I needed a service pet and charged me. She said I look fine and that I was a liar. She said I need to charge you because you're not having a seizure right now with so much sarcasm. The sofas in room 11 were very damaged and ripped. The towels were stale, dirty stained, there was also a ring around the tub from not being cleaned properly. The towels were very disgusting as well as the toilet. No shampoo either. I give this place 1/2 a star. Couches are ripped and dirty. Tub in room 11 is clogged. The shower window is way too high. Dirty place, the bed sheets had sand on them. Front desk reception tends to get nasty with customers. Very combative, disrespectful, andunprofessional. I called the front desk this morning again at 6:30 AM because we need to shower and get ready but the tub is still clogged and the water is freezing cold. The gentleman at the front desk answered and said "yeah, yeah, whatever, I'll let the maintenance guy know whenever he's up." He claimed to be the manager. He said "I saw your reviews and you fell in the shower and hit your head and called paramedics, just check out and let's part ways." I told him that our room is reserved and paid for tomorrow as well and explained to him that he shouldn't be kicking me out in the early morning just because I'm bringing an issue up to their attention, and I have my children here with me. He is kicking me in my children out just because I fell and I reported the clogged tub. he said that he is demanding a police report. I asked him if I can speak to someone that can please help me and he said you can speak to Rita at 10 in the morning when she arrives and with sarcasm said you can tell her everything. Never been to a place where staff are so rude and disrespectful, and threaten to kick me hbout because of an accident and I have my kids, sad I have requested a refund for my service animal fee that was charged upon admission and they are refusing to refund us. The absolute worst!! The room wasn't prepared and it was old and outdated. The pictures on the website do not reflect reality. Price is not commensurate with the accommodations. Major renovations needed. This lodge is pretty run down and is not worth the money I paid. The comforter was dirty (stains) and needed changed. They have sliding glass doors with sort of see through curtains and rooms face each other. The vent in bathroom was hanging. The lights were unplugged and had to change out bulbs to have proper lighting. I would not recommend this place. Cobwebs everywhere. How did they get to 3 stars average. Nice reception hall though. 1. No A/C 2. Fan to be picked from reception 3. No "do not disturb sign " 4. No closet no hangers. 5. Bed and night stand are built from logs and uneven everything will slide including you. 6 view is trash yard depends on location. 7. No Ice just cold coffee 8. Jason (the owner) runs a great place here, and Nicole who was working the desk was the absolute best, so friendly and welcoming and helpful! The cabins are clean, cozy, charming and comfortable, often complete with spa jacuzzis inside and wood burning fireplaces. We love how peaceful it is to read on the private decks surrounded by the woods. The property includes a pool, a hot tub, a small basketball court with a volleyball net and a ping pong table, and the comfortable lobby is always stocked with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and snacks available for purchase. The complimentary continental breakfast is also great. We always love staying at the Black Forest Lodge when we're in Big Bear, and Nicole made this trip extra nice, just by being so warm and friendly and exemplifying great customer service. read more

I'll be succinct. My wife and I booked this for a little getaway and within a couple hours even though it was getting late and the road to to Big Bear is very windy, we packed and checked out. In the room both of us had discovered we were becoming dizzy and feeling worse all the time. The hotel might have had a hey day in the 1960's or 70's, but the rooms are dilapidated and cheap. It would cost them a lot of money to move up from a one star facility. It's possible our stay was an outlier and yours might be better. That's possible. ANTS EVERYWHERE. We specifically rented a cabin with a spa bath rub and we couldn't use it because the whole tub was covered in ants. The bathroom sink and bathroom walls were covered as well. When we spoke to the night person at the front desk, she was super nice and helpful. Gave us a couple options, but ended up leaving a note for the front desk in the morning when we checked out regarding a compensation. When we checked out in the morning the front desk said that it's the time of the year and there was nothing that they could do. First stop on our wedding anniversary weekend was very disappointing. My initial impression from the outside was that the property is extremely cute. I go inside and was greeted by Jason, NICE GUY and great customer service. Informed me that my room would not be ready for another hour/ hour and a half. (Which was fine) Time passes and we go up to our room (54) open the door and it REEKS of cigarette smoke and carpet fresh or some type of cleaner. My mom is severely asthmatic and she couldn't breathe. We open our balcony door to air out the room and Do a walk through of the room and according to Jason "the girls are taking longer on the rooms to sanitize because of COVID-19" carpets were dirty, so was the bathroom and tub. Very sloppy cleaning and walls could use a good scrubbing. But whatever, we can deal with it. So we go to dinner to let the room air out. Come back and the smell isn't AS BAD but it's still there. We're watching movies on the bed and then a strong smoke smell is coming through the balcony door so I take a look outside and the "Katrina" girl is out smoking on her balcony. -we close the door. Shortly after I happen to see a bug crawling across my pillow! So, we pull back the sheets. Sure as heck they have bed bugs. That was the last straw. We tried to ignore most things but bed bugs are no joke. I go down to the front desk to turn in the keys and get a refund. Katrina was passive and seemed like she knew there were bugs and didn't bat a eye. She didn't even offer a refund or apologize. I had to make sure to state my last name and insist on a refund and follow up with Airbnb to guarantee I got it. Horrible. I recommend you gut the older rooms and remodel everything spray and treat for bed bugs. AVOID AVOID! This place was gross and a really bad and kind of a nightmare to stay at. As someone else posted the floor will turn your feet black. There are small cockroach like bug that come out especially with the smallest presence of food. I told the lady at the front and she was like "what huh we just painted the hot tub" and I was like that doesn't mean anything, you have bugs. So gross. She obviously didn't care at all and wasn't going to do anything about it. There is no AC (doesn't say that on website) and the unit we were in also was right on the street-- did I mention the motel is right across from the fire station. So it's really fun having to have your windows open because of the heat while hearing fire trucks and traffic go by. The bed also has no mattress-- it is TWO box springs on top of each other with a mattress topper on top top. TERRIBLE. Also, WHY IS THERE NO TABLE OF ANY KIND IN THIS MASSIVE ROOM? Or chair. I booked this hotel on Expedia for 2 nights when I was in Big Bear Lake for a Spartan Race. The check-in process was pretty simple and they don't charge any extra fees at the hotel if you pay in full on Expedia. They still use regular keys for the rooms. The lobby had some Halloween decorations as this was the last weekend in October. They told me they had firewood available if I wanted to use that for my fireplace. I've never used a fireplace that use real wood before so I opted out of that. Luckily for me, the fireplace was also a gas fireplace so I just had how to flip a switch. My room was very cute. And it was more spacious than I thought it was going to be. They did a great job cleaning as everything was spotless. It had a nice cabin feel to it with the brick in the fireplace and the wood floors. It had the bedside tables a couch and all the bathroom amenities. I was so happy it had a bathtub because I was able to do an Epsom salt soak after my race. The bed was extremely comfortable, just what I needed after my soak. I really enjoyed this room such that instead of going out to explore the city on the second day I was there, I just stayed in my room. But it was also very cold so it was a good thing that the room was so nice. The checkout process however was a bit more head scratch worthy. I was leaving very early about 4 a.m., and there was no one in the lobby to receive my keys. Since these weren't just key cards they definitely didn't want them back. But since the lobby was locked and there was no one there, I really did not know where to leave the keys. They do have a night window, but you cannot access the drop door/ drawer from the outside. No one answered the phone to the number that was posted. There was however a little dish on the ledge so I figured that is where the keys were meant to be placed. I went ahead and left mine in there, and put a pine cone over them just in case. I didn't get a call back or an extra charge on my account, so I figure they got my keys... yay! read more

The fireplace did not work. The television is hard to operate for regular channels. Although the front desk lady was very helpful and friendly, the maintenance man came in highly upset. He started by banging on the door repeatedly. Then pushed a button on the hot tub to get it working. Told us nothing is wrong with the room. The fireplace just needs a part. But everything works. He was aggressive about the whole visit to assist us in figuring out this hot tub. The directions from front desk was not working. And our fireplace was not working. The heater was not working. We asked for a discount but this is what we got in return. An aggressive maintenance guy. SMH The bed was hard too. Wouldn't recommend this place. Sorry not sorry. read more

Avoid this place. We booked a stay at the lodge back in December '22 on hotels.com. Received an email 2 days later saying that there was an issue with our credit card info and to call the hotel. Rather than hassle with this reservation, we just booked another hotel. No confirmation email was ever received for our reservation. I checked my bank statements a few days later and saw that this place had charged us for the entire stay that we never had. After calling the lodge we were told that that credit card info error email was sent by hotels.com and not them so they were not responsible. The employees and manger we spoke to disregarded our side of the story and did not accommodate us at all. It seemed like they were only intent on trying to justify billing me for a stay we never had based on an erroneous reservation. I won't ever go back to this place, I experienced a bad night. Around 2am I've started hearing noise on my sealed food, I hadn't opened mu food yet. For a minute a thought it was my son, but it ended up being rats. I turned on the light and they wouldn't go away, they were horrible. I didn't sleep at all, I was afraid they will get in my kids. Early in the morning I went to the office to tell them, the guy helping me mentioned that noise was most likely the squirrels outside, and I said they had bitten my food. I told him I want to cancel my second night, I just wanted to get out. Now that I think about it, he never mentioned anything about giving me a credit for my food nor my bad experience there. Where to start .. came for the weekend for my dads birthday , found this hotel on hotels.com had great reviews then now seeing Yelp had all the real reviews .So yes it's a great price and bathrooms were cleaned .We liked the area was close to everything in town the only problems were just tables were so sticky we had to put paper towels on table and chairs were so disgusting we put towels on them to sit . We won't be coming back here they need more professional cleaning and a lot of updating, and outside Jacuzzi bubbles weren't working that's also why we booked the only place in big bear with a pool and jacuzzi so wasn't disclosed before booking that it wasn't working properly. read more

Stayed here for a couple nights when we went snowboarding in big bear. Our room was cozy but to say it's outdated is an understatement. The walls were paper thin. Dust was so awful in our room. We couldn't figure out why our nose was stuffy and we couldn't breathe. Laid down to go to sleep, looked up at the skirt above the bed.... dust and spider webs. Our dated and unclean. Bathroom was dirty. The walls had stains on them and the ceiling fan had piles of dust on the blades. I was excited to stay here at first.... We ended up leaving and staying next door at Lindberg Suites. Please don't stay here. For the same price you can stay somewhere that is focused more on cleanliness.
