We booked the XL Spa Suite at The Burgundy Hotel for a birthday staycation, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The private hot tub was such a fun touch, and the whole property has so much personality. It's one of those places that doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's exactly what makes it so much fun. The thing that really stood out, though, was the people. Late at night, after a few birthday drinks, we somehow convinced ourselves the TV wasn't working. It was definitely user error. We called way later than we should have, and someone came to our room almost immediately and had us watching our show within minutes. They couldn't have been nicer. That wasn't our only great interaction, either. Everyone we met was genuinely friendly and welcoming. Even the other guests added to the experience. We ended up meeting so many fun people by the pool and around the property. Somehow they've created a place that attracts good vibes and good people. If you're the kind of person who appreciates a hotel with character, doesn't mind a little weird, and loves meeting fun people, stay here. You'll get it. This place is like stepping into a retro 70s dream with serious style. The woodwork in the bar/lounge-style check-in area is gorgeous, and those cool vintage touches carry right into the rooms. The hallway? Straight out of The Shining (yes, the carpet too)--equal parts creepy and iconic. Inside the room, I had a big jetted spa tub that was perfect for unwinding, plus some trippy wallpaper I could honestly stare at for hours. Location is unbeatable--super close to the village, the lake, and tons of shops and restaurants. We didn't have to drive anywhere, which was a huge win. Also, shoutout to the check-in lounge having an original NES hooked up to a retro tube TV--my husband was fully locked into Duck Hunt while I checked us in, which pretty much set the tone for the stay. 20/10 recommend. We stayed in Room 66 and, unfortunately, the room did not feel clean. There was an eyelash extension on the floor near the bed, next to what appeared to be a blood or red-wine stain, and we also found spiders in the bathroom. There was no soap at the kitchen sink, and the shower had no liner--only a velvet curtain--which did not feel sanitary. The towels were also very rough. The main bed covering appeared to be a velvet blanket, and we were left wondering whether it is actually washed between every guest. When we requested additional towels, we were told to bring our used, dirty towels back to the front desk in exchange. I have never encountered this at a hotel and felt uncomfortable handing used towels directly to an employee, especially without gloves or a laundry bag. It came across as both unsanitary and unnecessarily penny-pinching. Seems to be a management issue. We hike and camp frequently, so more than comfortable with rustic accommodations, but this felt less rustic and more unhygienic. The front desk staff were very kind, which we appreciated, but unfortunately, we woke up early feeling excited to leave. read more

Just stayed at The Burgundy (formerly the Black Forest Lodge) and had such a great experience from start to finish. Huge shoutout to Josh and Jordan -- their hospitality truly made the stay next level. Super welcoming, helpful, and genuinely cared about making sure everything was perfect. We stayed in the family suite, which was incredibly comfy and cozy. The fireplace + jacuzzi combo right in the bedroom in front of the TV was a total game changer -- perfect for relaxing after a long day. The whole room had that warm mountain lodge vibe that makes you instantly feel at home. The property has some really cool and unique touches too, like a fireplace made from an old recycled boat, which was such a fun and creative detail. There's also a heated spa, ample parking space, and a free continental breakfast that was a great way to start the day. One of my favorite surprises was the old school Nintendo in the lobby -- such a fun throwback and a great touch for families and kids (and kids at heart). Plus, being walking distance to the village made it super convenient for shopping, dining, and exploring. Overall, cozy, unique, and full of character with amazing service. Normally in Big Bear I get an Airbnb but the Burgundy was suggested by a friend. I'm so happy it was! It's clean, convenient and I don't have to worry about weird airbnb rules (like taking the trash to the dump?). The design is beautiful, the staff friendly and helpful. Not impressed. We rented the Casanova cabin and it left much to be desired. It had lamps that didn't work, an old jet tub that took up half the room and took an hour to fill, no bath mat, sketchy water fixtures that were loose and flimsy, windows with out screens, no where to put our luggage, no closet, and the fireplace was black from soot that left a smell in the room. The decore is bad. The bed sheets are scratchy and the blankets old polyester material from who knows when. I regret staying here. read more

The atmosphere is great from the moment you walk into the lobby to check in. Amazing attention to detail with vibes and decor. Many years ago I stayed here when it was a different lodge. They kept the unique feel while updating to modern finishes with a 70s vibe. We hung by the pool and hottub a bit and met other guests saying and had some great chats. This place attracts good people and cute dogs. Standout was the owner and staff caring, helpful and communicative humans. They also have a nice clean pool which isn't too common in the mountains. Perfect location on the blvd too and close to the village and other restaurants. LOVE what the new owners have done with The Burg :) Updates have been made all over the property, it looked so fresh when we pulled up! We stayed in one of the spa suites which have jacuzzi tubs in the rooms for that true vintage Big Bear feel! There are also smaller stand alone cabins, and 2 story suites, so a lot of variety to choose from if you're a big group or just a couple looking for a bubble bath and a fireplace :) The lobby was stocked with coffee, creamers, fruit for the morning, and other beverages too. I stayed at this property about 10 years ago and remembered loving the cozy, small-cabin feel and the cute Christmas decorations. We came back for our anniversary and stayed in the Cristy cabin. I really liked how quiet it was and how far it was from traffic -- very peaceful. The staff was also super friendly, which I appreciated. The location is perfect. We were able to walk to the lake, the village, and different areas nearby without needing to drive. A few things to note: * The bed felt very old and saggy. * The sheets seemed clean, and the cabin overall was clean, just a bit on the older side. * The heater, tub, and TV all worked well. * The coffee machine might need to be replaced -- it smelled a bit moldy. * The only thing that really brought the experience down for me was the bugs. I found one in my clothing, and later noticed some on the wall, which made me uncomfortable. I really like this place, and I hope with the upcoming renovations they can update the bedding and address the bugs. The cabin has a lot of potential, and the location and staff are great. read more

Friendly people, wide variety of lodging options. Safer to enter and exit from the side roads than from the main road. My room was in the 1990s black and white building next to the road. It had road noise because the window was open to plumb in the exhaust hose from a portable air conditioner. Gaps in the sealing let in some road noise. It is now after cooling season, so I suggested taking the hose out and closing the window. That will keep the room quieter and let people fully close the blinds. Like many 1990s buildings, the rooms had no central lighting. So, the main room and the bathroom are a bit dark. In the next renovation, it would be good to provide more power sockets. I had to unplug the fridge and microwave, then balance the coffee maker precariously on top of the portable AC to plug it in. Few sockets for our devices. Good coffee shop across the road! read more

Don't skimp on the cabin. It was charming, quiet, and just the right kind of rustic. It's not a 5-star hotel, and it's not trying to be. What it is: comfortable, and full of charm. The staff were friendly and helpful and the village and lake are walking distance. Highly recommend for a laid-back Big Bear getaway. Why not five stars? The spa and microwave were broken. That should be checked before advertising those amenities. The owner, Frank, is a lying and disgusting person. Stay elsewhere at all cost!! This hotel is not only completely unclean, but more than half the items in the rooms don't work. I found a ball of hair that wasn't mine in the bed. I tried to get a refund and the owner claimed that I never called them about my troubles. I have call logs, showing that I reached out for help 6 times each day I was there. They are dishonest people and don't care about their guests whatsoever. If you're looking for a clean and decent place to stay, go literally anywhere else. read more

Black Forest Lodge is a reliable place to stay in Big Bear. I have stayed at multiple different places in the city. Black Forest Lodge is the only place I've stay at more than once. The staff is really nice. The breakfast starts a little late in my opinion. Especially if you are trying to get to the mountain at an earlier time. Other than that and a spider crawling on my boyfriend in the middle of the night (I thought it was funny... it's their home). We would recommend checking it out. Black Forest Lodge was on the list of places to stay for us vendors as part of the Big Bear Yoga Festival. As soon as I booked, I was kept updated with welcome emails and texts from the manager, Frank, and the team. After a long beautiful day, I was so excited to pull into the lodge! Jackie checked me in, super sweet, and she gave me a couple recommendations for restaurants. (I was too tired, yet saved for another time). She mentioned the property was undergoing renovations which sounded so fun (70's retro!!) My room was simple, cute, and cozy. Perfect for me. Complimentary breakfast was choices of bagels, sweet pastries, Quaker oatmeal, coffee, tea, plus other snacks & drinks. Jackie was super nice, friendly, taking care of everyone as we all were beginning to grab breakfast & check out. I'm pretty simple with my needs, plus appreciate the customer service care. Felt like family. I'm looking forward to going back up the mountain and stay here again. read more

Very inconsiderate staff. They were renovating the room next to us until around 8-9pm. We had to hear drilling and hammering from check-in to then. And construction equipment mess outside. Worst was we left a personal item behind and staff did not care to look for it. At one point on a Friday evening the front desk Jackie left me on hold for an hour just to say she already looked for it and was not going to look again where I asked her to until Monday and she'd leave a note for staff to be on the look out. I call Monday for an update front desk had no note and no idea what I was talking about. Also our room had many light fixtures, only half of them would turn on. I'd say the owners and staff aren't caring, go elsewhere. read more

We stayed two nights in the historic 1894 cabin. It was quaint and cozy. The front desk staff were friendly. The hot water was not working so that was a bummer. We could not use the jacuzzi the first night. We contacted staff and they sent someone the next morning to light the pilots which had gone out. The shower is really small for anyone over 5'10" with broad shoulders. This is a nice spot. I wish they would update the shower. read more

We stayed for one night at this property, and we enjoyed it very much. It's a lovely property, which I understand was recently renovated. The lobby and rooms have a charming retro style that adds lots of character. Our room was spotless, and roomy. Parking couldn't be any more convenient right outside of our room. The chimney added a perfect touch, so be sure to purchase a chimney kit from the lobby. The heater is pretty loud, but we were still able to sleep throughout. However, what stood out was the service. The attentiveness we received from Jordan was phenomenal! He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect. He even kindly offered to take the fire wood to our room and start it! Who does that anymore? Huge shoutout to him for his hard work and dedication. They are very lucky to have him! Give him a raise! We will definitely stay here again when visiting Big Bear. So kind to me when my other hotel basically scammed me. I had no room till 7pm due to the issues with checking in for my other hotel and they let me relax in there during the snowstorm. I was able to be a bit warmer and I ended up getting the last room available with them and they were very nice and inviting. Room was so nice with a kitchenette at a reasonable price. In September of 2024 ,my family and I had a horrible experience at this property. When we checked in, we were assigned to a room that was dirty, and it had a horrible burnt smell like a dirty fireplace. The owner of the property refused to refund our money and we got swindled for almost $400. Earlier this year, new ownership took over and they said that they were sorry about what happened and they offered me one extra night for free if I paid for one night up front. We stayed here last weekend (Jan 3-5th 2026) and a rat dropped from the chimney and decided to take refuge in our bed frame. We called front desk multiple times and all they could say was we can't give you a different room till cleaning service gets there(in 5hours) and when asking for reimbursement all they offered was $70 off a night when we paid almost $400 a night. I have an extreme phobia to rodents and I was standing on the tub for like two hours because I was so afraid to even move. After further inspection we found rat traps throughout the room so clearly they know about the issue but still allow people to book. read more

When we checked in it looked like they had just painted the building we were in. The paint rag was still in front of our door. The dirty patio furniture was in the room. The door to the patio still had the paper on the windows from their paint job. There was another paint rag in the patio in front of the door I almost tripped over. After check in my door to my room wouldn't open i set in my car for hour and half while maintenance fixed it. The floor rugs and bedspread was so dirty you didn't walk barefooted on rugs. Took out spread. Bathroom side was closed wasn't fixed till next day. Online prices said 98. A night I paid $285. for 2 nights. They said pool was headed it wasn't.
