Eyelash extension stuck to ground, spiders in bathroom
    Kaitlyn E.

We stayed in Room 66 and, unfortunately, the room did not feel clean. There was an eyelash extension on the floor near the bed, next to what appeared to be a blood or red-wine stain, and we also found spiders in the bathroom. There was no soap at the kitchen sink, and the shower had no liner--only a velvet curtain--which did not feel sanitary. The towels were also very rough. The main bed covering appeared to be a velvet blanket, and we were left wondering whether it is actually washed between every guest. When we requested additional towels, we were told to bring our used, dirty towels back to the front desk in exchange. I have never encountered this at a hotel and felt uncomfortable handing used towels directly to an employee, especially without gloves or a laundry bag. It came across as both unsanitary and unnecessarily penny-pinching. Seems to be a management issue. We hike and camp frequently, so more than comfortable with rustic accommodations, but this felt less rustic and more unhygienic. The front desk staff were very kind, which we appreciated, but unfortunately, we woke up early feeling excited to leave.

Just stayed at The Burgundy (formerly the Black Forest Lodge) and had such a great experience from start to finish. Huge shoutout to Josh and Jordan -- their hospitality truly made the stay next level. Super welcoming, helpful, and genuinely cared about making sure everything was perfect. We stayed in the family suite, which was incredibly comfy and cozy. The fireplace + jacuzzi combo right in the bedroom in front of the TV was a total game changer -- perfect for relaxing after a long day. The whole room had that warm mountain lodge vibe that makes you instantly feel at home. The property has some really cool and unique touches too, like a fireplace made from an old recycled boat, which was such a fun and creative detail. There's also a heated spa, ample parking space, and a free continental breakfast that was a great way to start the day. One of my favorite surprises was the old school Nintendo in the lobby -- such a fun throwback and a great touch for families and kids (and kids at heart). Plus, being walking distance to the village made it super convenient for shopping, dining, and exploring. Overall, cozy, unique, and full of character with amazing service. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Normally in Big Bear I get an Airbnb but the Burgundy was suggested by a friend. I'm so happy it was! It's clean, convenient and I don't have to worry about weird airbnb rules (like taking the trash to the dump?). The design is beautiful, the staff friendly and helpful. This is Lucy's favorite place to stay. You can see in the pic she didn't want to leave the comfy bed.

Now called The Burgundy! Our room is a one bedroom suite. Right when you walk in m, you notice how clean this place is! Living room and cute kitchenette clean and renovated. A fireplace is perfect for cold night. Then you walk into a bedroom cozy and clean. Our room must have been newly renovated because I'm very very please of how it looks. The bathroom is also very clean. The gentleman who checked us in is extremely kind and patient.

    The gorgeous lobby

LOVE what the new owners have done with The Burg :) Updates have been made all over the property, it looked so fresh when we pulled up! We stayed in one of the spa suites which have jacuzzi tubs in the rooms for that true vintage Big Bear feel! There are also smaller stand alone cabins, and 2 story suites, so a lot of variety to choose from if you're a big group or just a couple looking for a bubble bath and a fireplace :) The lobby was stocked with coffee, creamers, fruit for the morning, and other beverages too. Will definitely be back!

I stayed at this property about 10 years ago and remembered loving the cozy, small-cabin feel and the cute Christmas decorations. We came back for our anniversary and stayed in the Cristy cabin. I really liked how quiet it was and how far it was from traffic -- very peaceful. The staff was also super friendly, which I appreciated. The location is perfect. We were able to walk to the lake, the village, and different areas nearby without needing to drive. A few things to note: * The bed felt very old and saggy. * The sheets seemed clean, and the cabin overall was clean, just a bit on the older side. * The heater, tub, and TV all worked well. * The coffee machine might need to be replaced -- it smelled a bit moldy. * The only thing that really brought the experience down for me was the bugs. I found one in my clothing, and later noticed some on the wall, which made me uncomfortable. I really like this place, and I hope with the upcoming renovations they can update the bedding and address the bugs. The cabin has a lot of potential, and the location and staff are great.

Who ever is in charge of the design for this hotel has exceptional taste. From the moment we stepped into this hotel to the moment we left we were had an amazing experience. The staff is top notch. We would absolutely stay here again.

If you're looking for glitz and glam, keep it moving--this is Big Bear, not Beverly Hills. But if you're after a cozy, peaceful escape that feels like a home away from home, pets allowed, Black Forest Lodge delivers. We stayed in the Belclare cabin, and my only advice? Don't skimp on the cabin. It was charming, quiet, and just the right kind of rustic. It's not a 5-star hotel, and it's not trying to be. What it is: comfortable, and full of charm. The staff were friendly and helpful and the village and lake are walking distance. Highly recommend for a laid-back Big Bear getaway. Why not five stars? The spa and microwave were broken. That should be checked before advertising those amenities. Also, the remodeling made a mess of the property (furniture, bedding, propane tanks, and trash everywhere so the outside felt like a rundown trailer park).

Black Forest Lodge was on the list of places to stay for us vendors as part of the Big Bear Yoga Festival. As soon as I booked, I was kept updated with welcome emails and texts from the manager, Frank, and the team. After a long beautiful day, I was so excited to pull into the lodge! Jackie checked me in, super sweet, and she gave me a couple recommendations for restaurants. (I was too tired, yet saved for another time). She mentioned the property was undergoing renovations which sounded so fun (70's retro!!) My room was simple, cute, and cozy. Perfect for me. Complimentary breakfast was choices of bagels, sweet pastries, Quaker oatmeal, coffee, tea, plus other snacks & drinks. Jackie was super nice, friendly, taking care of everyone as we all were beginning to grab breakfast & check out. I'm pretty simple with my needs, plus appreciate the customer service care. Felt like family. I'm looking forward to going back up the mountain and stay here again.

From the moment we walked into Sierra Blue Hotel & Swim Club, we knew we picked the right place. The aesthetic is incredible -- vintage charm from the original Thundercloud Lodge blended perfectly with modern, rustic chic design. Thoughtful artwork, cozy textures, and designer-inspired rooms make it feel stylish yet warm. It's a full-service hotel right in the heart of the Village -- one short block to the lake, shops, and restaurants (and right across from the bowling alley). Easy parking and EV charging available, which is a huge bonus. Janet, Maddie, and Louie greeted us and were absolutely amazing. Genuine, welcoming, and thoughtful. They even gifted us complimentary mugs and were so kind to our son, giving him a patch for his jacket or hat. That kind of hospitality stands out. And the freshly baked s'mores cookies? Unreal. Warm, gooey, perfectly toasted marshmallow and melted chocolate. Honestly better than DoubleTree cookies -- and yes, even better than the famous Disney park cookies. They're that good. Spotless room, beautiful Village views, pet-friendly, incredible service, and an unbeatable location. Five stars without hesitation. We'll absolutely be back -- especially for those cookies.

We chose a room with a kitchenette, and even for our short stay, it was a great convenience. Service is a little hit or miss. When we arrived our room was a bit stuffy so we tried to use the thermostat, which kept indicating a low battery. We called the front desk and the man who answered hesitantly said they'd tell maintenence. On our way out for dinner, we stopped by the front desk to remind them of our request and it was the same person who answered the phone. He was surprised and scrambled to find a sticky note to write it down. After all of that, we come back to the room to a note that it's been "fixed." The A/C and heat are controlled on the unit by the window itself, not the thermostat. So why not say that the two times we asked about it? The entrance and exit are towards the road behind the main street through down, which has restaurants, a 7-11, and other places you can easily walk to -- if they had an exit facing the main road. We had to walk around the building, climb over the railing and then make our way to the sidewalk.

However, I was disappointed that the bathroom in Room 363 already had some maintenance issues. The toilet was loose and wobbled every time we used it, and the shower handle was also loose and moved around when adjusting the water temperature. For a newer property, I expected these basic fixtures to be in better condition. The complimentary breakfast was a simple American-style breakfast with a few hot items, which was convenient but nothing particularly special. Overall, the hotel has great potential because it's clean and well maintained in general, but the maintenance issues in our room definitely affected our experience. Hopefully, management will address these problems soon, as this could easily be a 4 star stay with better attention to detail.

They made us feel right at home, which was a great way to start our stay. We booked a room with two queen beds, a fireplace, and a balcony. The lobby is nice, and the hotel has a spacious breakfast area along with an on-site restaurant. Our room was on the first floor, though, and the balcony overlooked someone's backyard, so we didn't really get to enjoy sitting outside. That was probably the biggest disappointment. The room itself was comfortable enough. The beds were decent, and it looked like some of the decor had been updated. The bathroom, however, could definitely use some work. There were patched areas on the walls, cracked baseboards, and it felt a little worn. The hallways could also use a refresh. The game room was a nice surprise. It had a pool table, ping pong, foosball, a few board games, and vending machines. There's also a small outdoor pool and jacuzzi, which looked like a nice place to relax. Breakfast was included and had a good variety of options, which we appreciated, especially on a busy holiday weekend. Overall, while parts of the hotel felt a little dated and even a bit creepy in places because of the older chateau style, we still enjoyed our stay. For the price we paid during one of the busiest weekends of the year, it was a good value. A few updates would make a big difference, but the excellent customer service and included breakfast definitely left a positive impression.

It was huge and the water was always super hot and the shower was hot right when I got out of the tub. A little soap goes a very long way with bubbles, proceed with caution. The room and the spa were very clean, there was a sticker on the door with the name of the person and the date that our room was sanitized which was reassuring to me. Once inside it smelled clean and everything looked clean. I did take a bottle of Odoban and did a once over but it was during COVID paranoia. Whenever I stay anywhere I strip the bed and put on my own sheets and blanket but when tearing the bed apart our white linens were very white and clean. I read reviews about a rouge hair or two and myself having very long dark hair I find it silly that it would be a huge deal, even in the most immaculate environment one is bound to pop up, trust me, I know but I understand with COVID everyone needs to be on top of their game with cleanliness. I found the location to be really convenient, it was close to everything we wanted to do. We had several exchanges with the owner, we checked in after midnight and she was friendly and professional. Since we were both working remotely due to COVID we decided we wouod like to stay another night if they could accommodate us and she was very courteous and made the process easy and that extra night actually turned into 3 extra nights! I suppose one could find the rooms dated, I personally felt like they were cute and cozy and felt cabin like,I didn't mind the decor at all. We stayed in cabin 16, I was able to scope out 17 and has been updated recently and is more modern. They both cost the same so I would probably go with 17 it's really the best bang for your buck. Finding our cabin at night was fairly difficult if you are able to check in during the day I would definitely say do that. We eventually found our cabin, they all look the same and aren't marked terribly well. The parking is a bit tight I came straight from buying a new fairly expensive car so I had to park a few different times until I was satisfied I would avoid a door ding but that was probably new car paranoia and if you don't arrive after midnight like a dummy you'll probably have a better chance at choice parking. Once in the cabin I saw there was one of those QR codes on the wall for you to scan and when you do they offer a coupon code that can't be applied retroactively of course so I was kinda bummed by that because it only required a 3 day stay to receive the discount and we stayed over twice that long so perhaps it could have been offered. I found it online as well so before you book look online for coupon codes because they're available. I found booking straight from their website was less expensive than Expedia and the other travel sites. For the price I think this place is unbeatable. Just when you thought I was going to shut up I pop back up... I forgot to mention that one night a family checked into one of the family cabins and they were out until after 10 pm and they were loud eventually I called Cathy at the number she provides for you to call if you need anything and within 5 minutes she had sent someone to take care of the issue. I'm not sure if any of the cabins are pet friendly but I know that the one we stayed in was not and that was really the biggest issue we had. I have a 4 pound Yorkie with separation anxiety and he's grown quite accustomed to going everywhere with me so we had to hire a pet sitter and I really missed my Lil guy! I wish they allowed pets of a certain size with a deposit. Other than that I can't wait until it's time to go back. We went in the last week of April for my birthday and the weather was perfect. Not too cold but you still definitely get that mountain experience and since it's the off season everything is very affordable. Remember to look for that coupon code online and to book through their direct website and the price is unreal.
