The breakfast food here must be the best in town, since this place was packed! We came in right before a wave of snowboarders/skiers came in. The only downside, not a lot of seating options inside (very limited), first come, first serve. There was seating options outside, but it's too cold haha. Oat milk is available as an alternative option when purchasing drinks. The banana/nutella crepe and french toast were what we ordered and they were amazing. That said, I had the worst omelette/breakfast experience of my adult life here a few days ago. I had a ham and cheddar omelette. The cheddar wasn't melted all the way (you know how it kind of barely gets orange? THAT!), all the ham sat in a huge pile that burst out of the middle of this creation (think when the snake ate the elephant in The Little Prince), and the toast was shriveled in the corner of a chipped plate that was thrown in front of me like someone would serve orphan Annie in the exaggerated musical. This is a small place with a few tables outside and about 10 tables inside. There is a free water jug inside and restrooms. I ordered the club sandwich and a sprite. My friends both ordered the breakfast burrito. My sandwich was really good. The meats were moist and greens were fresh. They made it on a ciabatta bun, which was also really good. No chips or fries included. The burrito was bland and the bottom was really tough, like it was sitting on the grill too long. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were on the higher end. read more

We stopped in for a quick smoothie to go. We sat down to drank part of it and left. My wife picked up the empty straw wrapper to try to throw it away on the way out. Not seeing a trash can she placed it at an empty table not yet bussed which had the remains of a sandwich wrapped in a napkin. About 10 feet outside the door an employee came up from behind and told my wife in front of other guests that, "Our tables are not trash cans"! It was one straw wrapper that she picked up trying to clean the table at which we sat. Evidently the attitude of management is that it is ok to make a big effort to make sure customers feel like they really screwed up. An employee in their 20's chastised an almost 60 year old woman over a straw wrapper rather than cleaning the table. Trying to imagine a large bear squeezing into this tiny cramped restaurant is about the funniest image I can fathom at the moment, but that's the only levity I can muster to hide my overwhelming annoyance of Big Bear Bistro. I can understand if you're in New York City; there are plenty of these hole-in-the-wall breakfast places that are all slightly shabby yet offer exemplary food by reputation, however, in Vail Village it's a bit more of an enigma. The first thing I want to mention is the line to order runs right by the bathroom. That's the last thing people want to smell, the lavatory door swinging open revealing pungent odors while you're about to get a coffee. There are ten menus all chalked out in tiny writing adorning the walls above the tables, so good luck standing around reading those all day and not inconveniencing the patrons that are dining inside. I ordered a breakfast burrito and the person I was with ordered "The Alex". We then went to sit outside and all of the outdoor tables were dirty. When we requested that someone bus one of the tables outside, the staff member just went and removed some plates and didn't even wipe away any of the crumbs. After a short wait they brought our breakfast out to us and then gave us unwrapped silverware which was dumped onto our table. They could've easily just handed it to us, but dropping it on our grimy table was their mode of operation. The burrito was terrible! I had about three rubbery bites and decided this was a loss. "The Alex" came with toast that wasn't toasted and burnt potatoes. Around this time is when I noticed a couple leaving behind their barely eaten plates while a bird landed and start eating their leftovers. I don't think it was impressed either because it didn't stick around for long. The only redeemable thing during this whole outing was tasting their cappuccino which was foamy and flavorful!
