This is a tough place to review. I could understand some points of view that may warrant three stars and others that may warrant five stars. I've been to many diners with five-star food but mediocre coffee, and I've been to many cafes with five-star coffee but mediocre food options. Big Bear walks the line between both; the food is better than most cafes, and the coffee is better than most diners. So, I think it depends on whether their food matches your personality. They're a popular place and the wait can be about 15 minutes when the line gets long, but I'd still say it's worth the wait. The atmosphere is not too boisterous, but it's also not a library. The biggest drawback is the small establishment only has about seven tables, and during busier times, it can be difficult to find a place to sit. There's not much they could do to fix that except move to a larger location. I did appreciate the table with children's toys for the smaller customers to enjoy :). read more

It's hard to believe that I've never posted a review of the Big Bear Cafe -- a place I have been going to for a couple of years. Possibly this is because I can add little to the many good Yelp reviews which this place has already earned. Hot drinks, cold drinks, sandwiches, salads, creative "toast" dishes and COOKIES are among my favorites. And free WiFi in an environment much more mellow that your typical chain Starbucks. Really nice staff and a pleasant population of regular customers. However, my latest discovery is that there are two ChargePoint electric car charging stations in the FREE municipal parking lot directly across the street. (Mrs Bear and I just acquired our first plug-in electric car and are now basking in our conspicuous environmentalism.) So, I can spend a hour sipping ice coffee, nibbling cookies, using the WiFi to read news on "TheLatest.com", and putting a few free kilowatt-hours into my ride. Life is good. read more

Such a great location and awesome design concept with delicious food and coffee and specifically from my quick interactions the staff were sweet and attentive. I want to let these pleasant facts be known but also want to shine some light on the entirety of my experience. I unfortunately had to overhear an older woman working in this very small establishment making very uncomfortable comments to her staff as well as customers. I assumed she's the manager based on how she chose to disrespectfully manage the staff on duty with passive aggressive mannerisms and direction. What a cool small coffee shop in Denham. It was a very spontaneous moment for me and a friend after a long walk but I'm glad that we popped in. They have the most delicious iced tea called The Passion and it was so good. Rotates daily - mine had zucchini, mushrooms and Cabot cheddar in the eggs, topped with thick, quality bacon and dressed greens. Yes, it's $7.50, but breakfast IS the most important meal of the day. And crikey, is it worth it... Couple that with the still gigantic 32oz cold brew (still $4), lightning wifi, and a delightful pair behind the counter, and the fifth star comes too easily. Big Bear has a charming small town feel, super friendly staffers, and the food and drink is on point. The menu is fun and a little adventurous without the vibe that they're trying too hard to be unique. It reminded us of a Pacific NW cafe, which we're nostalgic for after living near Seattle for several years and cultivating our love of espresso.. The Grizzly sandwich is amazing, the bacon was addictive! Their sweet toasts are also delicious - everything we ate is crave-able. We can't wait to go back. Big Bear Cafe has become a regular for me in lieu of chain coffee stops nearby. I always get an iced latte when I come in, very smooth and delicious (with a lot of flavors to choose from)! The ambiance is cozy and relaxing, the line moves relatively quickly, and the counter staff chat with you as they prepare your order. You can link up your credit card to rewards account and get rewards, which is a nice feature from a small business. Food: I've had the frittata sandwich (pictured), which is to die for. They rotate which veggies go in daily (mine was bell peppers and broccoli--- my fav!) and can be topped with cheddar cheese and bacon (you can always get a plain frittata with cheese and bacon). The Piglet sandwich is a great lunch time option with loads of delicious flavor. This morning in particular I had the overnight oats which were the best I've had yet. They come mixed with chia pudding, almonds, and blueberries (to die for)! Overall I feel great about supporting a small, woman-owned, local business. With lattes cheaper than corporate competition I'll likely be in here near-daily. read more

Delicious and fresh at a very reasonable price. I haven't checked the other reviews yet, but I don't know why anyone wouldn't give 5 stars. It's a simple menu that's wonderfully complex. I got a cappuccino and the Beary Good, which was fresh strawberries and blueberries on ricotta on sourdough and drizzled with honey. Yum! They have something you'll enjoy eating for breakfast even though the menu is limited, after all, it's a cafe. Interesting non-boring alternative to standard coffeehouse carb fare. With 7 tables, they don't have a huge amount of seating, but the space is fine for 1-2 people to do laptop work. Only feedback I would have is to provide ceramic/non-disposable mugs to people who are getting their order to stay, or incentivize customers to bring their own thermos, to be environmentally conscious. read more

This is the real deal local coffee shop. The staff is friendly and they have been there for years. The coffee is good and food is not the typical egg sandwich. It is nice tables outside that attract kids, dog walkers, and bicyclists stopping for a break. Delicious coffee and food here! They do feature special drink flavors of the month and they're usually really yummy. I haven't had anything bad here and appreciate that they offer a lot of different non dairy milks. Pre corona it was wonderful spot to sit and chill or study.
