The coffee is great, but the real star here is Donna's food. She is truly gifted. For sandwiches and salads are incredibly inventive and original. All the food is fresh and the value is terrific for what quality you're getting. My only suggestion: rename it Donna's :) There's some nice outside seating - inside and on the sidewalk (with a chess table!) located in downtown Dedham Square which is quite a hopping place these days. read more

The staff are very kind and helpful. I'm always impressed by how quick they complete my drink orders. Also impressed by how full they top off foamy drinks like lattes and when you put on the lid, none of it spills - amazing. I frequently get their chai latte because it's not too sweet and it's filling. I've also gotten the Smokey the Bear sandwich; it's not spicy with the jalapeno peppers and my husband loved it. I went here for the first time this weekend and I've been missing out. Latte was very good, and the food was phenomenal. The place is super cute and shout out to them for the gluten free bread! This is the kind of pleasant, earthy crunchy place you'll want to cozy up with a good book in and take in the great coffee house crowd. When I went there, I had to hang out for over an hour. The big bear is one of the best coffee shops to work in in the area! The food is great, the drinks are excellent, and the wifi is fast. I always feel welcomed and I have spend several hours here. I particularly like how friendly and locals oriented it is. The people working there seem to know 80% of the people who stop in and have long conversations with them. It's very community focused. Located in Dedham Square which offers plenty of parking. This cute lil coffee shop with a cozy vibe made me a nice iced mocha latte. The cashier was pleasant and despite a big crowd the barista served up my order in a timely fashion. They offer amazing pastries and sandwiches. The best way I can describe this place is made with love. The space, the food, the drinks there is something so charming and wholesome about all of it. I came here on a rainy day and was comforted by the overnight oats (highly recommend getting a side of ur fav nut butter too) and an oatmilk latte. Both were great. Wonderfully designed interior that's very homey and distinctive; it's an attractive, sedately blue and woodsy interior versus your standard browns and black interior of most coffee houses. You know...I've never really seen the connection between bears and toast.... Lightbulb moment! Big Bear is a small cafe with a lot to offer! Easy to locate at the intersection of Eastern Ave and High St, plenty of free parking in the commuter lot across the way, free Wi-Fi, and a killer mural of (what else) ol'Grizz himself. Prior to a friendly meetup I plunked myself in the corner, ordered myself a large chai latte and Berry Good toast (total order ~$10). Heads up...the large is a serious Bahstan Lahhhhge (and made with real chai tea, not a thick powdery mix!) - yielding three hours of sweet slurpitude. The toast was beautifully presented and was both absolutely face-lickingly delicious and surprisingly filling! Wi-Fi is free and my buddy and I were a-ok to type the away while customer traffic rode that morning caffeine rollercoaster (low from open - 930, busy from 930-11, easy again 11-1145). Though, I'm not sure that I would permit traffic to prevent me from this Dedham gem...it was that good and served with a smile and a giggle. Way to make my morning, BBCE team! read more

I have been to Big Bear multiple times and they never fail to meet previous expectations! The prices are very reasonable for both the coffee and the toasts (a café au lait is about $2!). My favorites are the Beary Good toast, which consists of a sweet ricotta spread, summer berries, chia seeds, a drizzle of honey, and basil all served on a perfectly crisp slice of sourdough (only $5!). While I ate this for lunch, it would be a nice addition to your early morning coffee. As for drinks my favorites are the café au lait, the rose petal latte with almond milk, and the 24 oz iced green tea. Donna, the owner, has high quality coffee and espresso that always tastes robust and flavorful. Besides the regular coffee, I strongly recommend Donna's specialty lattes. As I already mentioned, the rose petal latte with almond milk is stellar, as well as any of the other lattes featuring flower syrups (such as the Honey Pot which is a combination of lavender syrup and honey). Aside from the drinks the atmosphere is comforting and is definitely a place where I can go to get work done while listening to soothing singer-songwriter music in the background. There is also some outdoor seating available in the form of wrought iron chairs and tables, which serve well during the late spring and summer months. read more

Quality reigns at Big Bear. We eat out a lot -- takeout during the pandemic -- and Big Bear is one of our favorite choices. A European style cafe, it offers a wide range of beverages and tasty sandwich plates. You must try the fresh squeezed lemonade! I aim eventually to sample the entire menu, all of which looks good; so far my fave is the Grizzly featuring avocado and bacon. My spouse likes tuna fish tacos or the Polar Bear chicken salad with surprises mixed in, like dried apricots! We haven't tried the small things such as whipped ricotta and honey on toast, but doesn't that sound great? When we have it, I will amend this review. The addition of Big Bear to "the square" has been great. There's a bright, friendly atmosphere that is punctuated by Donna, the owner, who will remember your name, favorite drink, and is dedicated to making sure every customer feels taken care of and appreciated. If you don't like your drink, don't hesitate to let her know. Kids aren't just welcomed, she has special open-faced sandwich items on her menu just for them (along with lots of other on-theme sandwich items for breakfast/snack/lunch)! Donna has clearly put herself into creating a comfortable, functional and inviting space. The layout has been opened up (from it's previous layout) with artwork and decorations that follow the Big Bear theme. It's a little quirky, a little fun and at the same time comforting. A great place to catch up with friends, unwind, or get some work done - and of course, get your coffee fix. I love her Americano - the coffee is never bitter or burnt - and Donna went out of her way to learn how to pull a "long shot" after I ordered it once. Sourced from locally owned roasters, Big Bear's beans are IMO by far better than that big-bucks brand. Add to it an extensive list of teas, cookies, pastries and other treats, and you're sure to find something that will please everyone. read more

Sweet heaven ! This place was amazing. First: Crowded, but under control--friendly and efficient. Second: If you have the opportunity to get the apple/almond bar, do it. DELICIOUS. My iced green tea was perfect (you'd be surprised at how man y places wreck something that simple.) Finally: Donna, the owner, is so down to earth, gracious and cool. We were from out of town--first time there--but we'll definitely go out of our way to return to such a good shop. read more

This cafe is great! Light and bright with yummy food. I usually get either an Acai bowl or the sugar bear. I get the Acai bowl with fruit only because of a nut allergy! Skip the pineapple on your Acai bowl, it tastes like it's straight out of can. The Sugar Bear is so good! An English muffin/French toast taste with the powdered sugar, strawberries, and syrup make it perfect. read more

I love BBC! I'm a regular at this spot and am completely addicted to the rose mocha with almond milk (try it, UNBELIEVABLE). The owner, Donna, is a doll and one of the baristas (Louisa, I believe?) was the person who originally intro'd me to the magical powers of rose-flavored espresso (THANK YOU). I haven't tried their noshes yet, but I can vouch for the quality of their java. I travel around the country as a motivational speaker and my enjoy buying beans from local cafes, grinding them, and creating my own coffee concoctions at home. Big Bear ranks up there with some of the most elite cafes I've had the pleasure of enjoying. I would echo what another customer said - it would be great to have large ceramic coffee mugs for those of us enjoying our coffee in house (saves on waste and adds to the cozy atmosphere). Living in the Dedham area, I was excited about this cafe's recent opening. I really like it here, for several reasons. The owner/barista is friendly and sincerely appreciates her customers. The atmosphere is classy, yet down to earth (I love the succulents she has throughout the cafe, and on the outdoor tables), and the coffee and tea are delicious.
