Okay. I don't do this often... but: Woman at the front desk was very friendly and informative. However. Our room ($200/night, king bed with jet tub) looks and smells about 10-15 years older than the photos on the booking site judging by the dust encapsulating the wooden decor. This was supposed to be a romantic getaway for my fiancée and I and this is borderline disgusting. The tub was filthy. The shower is cracked beyond repair and there was half a turd in the toilet when we arrived. The group (8 teenagers by my count) staying in the room above us will not stop dancing around, screaming "I'M WASTED!'!!!" and there's no employee to be found post 9pm. Never again. I've paid $40 for a night at Travelodge and been more satisfied. This place is a waste of money, and I HATE writing Yelp reviews. To the owners/management: I am sorry for the public shaming. Had you been available, I would've made these complaints directly. But we have to leave. I understand that Big Bear is a tourist trap, a desirable location, etc. but you ripped us off. We stayed in the hotel-like rooms. It was very expensive ($200+) for what we received. We had the king-sized bedroom. The bedroom itself is surprisingly small. I was looking forward to the whirlpool in our room but it was stained or dirty and the jets didn't work. Our bedsheets also had stains that looked like oil stains (hoping they were oil...). The shower towels were extra tiny, and I'm glad we brought our own or else we'd still be wet. All I want in a hotel is for it to be CLEAN, especially for how much we paid. I could not recommend this room to anyone. Also, the wifi signal is extremely poor and you cant walk from the cabin to the lake. There is a field in between the cabin and lake. read more

Came back to visit Big Bear 1/19-1/21 & got room 128. It's on the 2nd fl which is closer to the stairs & just by the lake. We thought it was gonna be a better experience staying here. But we were wrong. PROS: 2nd Floor, Clean room, just right by the lake, & ample towels, easy checkin. For that, I can give 3 stars. CONS: The light from the ceiling fan is broken. So you would be eating in the dark. Decided to open the curtains for some light. The most annoying part was the floors would creak so much even if you try to walk slowly. In addition to that, the occupants below us had probably knocked our floor 3-4 times for every walk that we made. I mean, we can't help it if those floors are making that much noise. On our last night, we could smell pot(?) smoke coming from that connecting door. I could careless if it was just us adults but I have a 2 year old so, it wasn't okay. I told the frontdesk (blond, curly, hair lady in her 40s I think) the next day when we checkout & she just said "its normal nowadays so cant really do anything about it." Now, I think I have to ask a resort's policy on smoking pot to make sure none of that will happen again. And yes, we could have told them about it on that night but I was worried too that the next door will retaliate & compromise our safety esp. that I have my 2 year old son. Call me paranoid but you'll never know. The unit was the last room & unfortunately, we happened to be beside it. And we had no idea who are the occupants in that unit. To minimize that smell, I decided to just grab all the towels and try to cover the cracks in between that door where the smell came from. So, heads up, you should check with the business for that kind of scenario. If they will just move you to another room or something else. read more

We stayed here for two nights with the kids in a regular two bed motel style room ( not the cabins) and LOVED it!! We got a good deal on Expedia and felt we got more than what we paid for. The place was clean, had a few fun activities for the kids and was close the everything!! The pool and hot tube were well heated. I think it was about 40 degrees and the kids swam for about an hour! Only thing that was odd was they had a big sign hanging that stated you could not go in the pool if you had diarrhea?? Um no crap!! ( get it:) anyway I couldn't help but think maybe they had problems with people getting sick in the past or something weird. Anyway, we didn't get sick and had so much fun!! Considering we visited on a spur of the moment booking through Chase rewards we were charged over $600 for unit 257 a two bedroom free standing unit which upon entering the unit seemed a bit high considering the location (on the main road) and the condition of the unit. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The location is good if you want to walk into town, or take a short walk across the property to the lake and they have a heated Pool and Jacuuzi open until 9:30 or 10. The reason for the 3star rating is primarily due to the cost, the location of our dated unit, the full trash can in on the porch upon arrival and the thin walls and stairs up to the divided loft. The bed linens were comfortable and clean, the heater and fireplace were great and having a small kitchen allowed us to prepare our own meals. The best and key feature to this property is they accept pets and our small dog enjoyed his first visit to the snow. If we can find an Air BNB dogs we probably won't be back anytime soon yet don't want to discourage anyone from giving this place a try... there are plenty of units that I'm sure are worth giving a try. read more

Please don't stay here if I could give this place 0 stars I would. Such horrible and rude customer service. The rooms were just remodeled about a month ago but the room thermostat was not working in our room making it unbearable to sleep -very hot. I called the front desk and maintenance came to our room twice both times didn't do much but look at the thermostat lower the temperature and finally said it's likely not working and best to open the windows if we were hot. I asked to be moved to another room and the woman at the front desk said I should call Expedia and complain to them. She went on to say they were booked when I demanded to speak to the owner she said no one was available and did move us to another room and at this point it was 10:30pm! The place has mediocre amenities including the jacuzzi which doesn't work - the water isn't hot- but the front desk argues it's working. I can go and on about this awful hotel- stay somewhere else if you don't want to be disappointed with the accommodations. I will never stay here again! read more

Stayed in cabin 2. This is not our first stay at Frontier, however, we usually stay in cabin 1 which was not available this time. I look forward to bringing my grandkids up to Big Bear twice a year. Unfortunately our stay in cabin 2 was quite disappointing. Here are the things that were unacceptable during this stay: --Two burners on the stove didn't work. --Only one side of the toaster worked. --The kitchen table was about to fall over due to the legs being loose. We fixed it ourselves. --The small bed right inside the door was filthy. The first night we discovered bugs in the sheets. We went to the office and requested a rollaway bed. --Several pillow cases were dirty and were obviously not changed from the previous guests. That was awful! --The sofa bed was so old, it wouldn't open flat and leaned at an angle. Very difficult to sleep slanted in a bed. --There were plenty of towels , but not enough wash cloths nor hand towels. --Throw pillows on the sofa were torn. FRONTIER NEEDS TO UPDATE/REFURBISH THESE ANTIQUATED CABINS. WE ARE DISHEARTENED BY THE LACK OF CABIN QUALITY AS IT MOST DEFINITELY WAS NOT COMPARABLE TO WHAT WE PAID FOR. Hopefully the manager will speak to the housekeeping and maintenance staff. Also, I sincerely hope that the desk clerk gave the manager the written list that I left this morning. We will more than likely look for other accommodations next time. read more

We stayed in cabin 6, which was a one bedroom with a whirlpool tub. It had an electric fireplace, which was nice, a full kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, dishes, coffeemaker. There was a small dining nook with 4 chairs, and a sliding door to the small deck and outdoor furniture. Great view of the lake, close to the tube park and resorts. The room was clean, comfortable. Went to Big Bear for the first time and had no idea what or where, just booked this place hoping it was good. Wow, were we so happy that we did! We had a cute little cabin ( #7), plenty of space, very clean, warm with almost everything that you would need. I was expecting a wood burning fireplace, ours was electric. Later I read that they had mixed styles, but by that time we were already settled in so I didn't want to move cabins. Great location looking at the lake and very near the heart of town so no need to drive to get food or go shopping. The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. They have a heated pool and a jacuzzi, and my kid had a blast swimming surrounded by snow in the middle of January! Wi fi connection was strong (very important for the kiddo!), good tv channel selections with dvd/vcr player attached. You can rent movies in the main office, as well as grab a board game, get snacks, hot coffee/tea and hot cocoa. The grounds have bball hoop, ping pong table, tetherball and merry go round. I absolutely loved my stay here with my boyfriend. We stayed 2 nights and our room was so cozy that we almost spent the whole time indoors. The room was decent sized and pretty clean when we arrived. The jacuzzi and the fireplace were the perfect addition. My only problems were with the noise level. We don't stay out very late, so we could clearly hear the girls staying upstairs stomping around above us. We could even hear their jacuzzi bubbling at midnight. Also, the jacuzzi was stained so I had to clean it myself before I felt safe going in. After cleaning it, though, I realized the stains were permanent so it had been cleaned before our arrival. Other than that and the gross ( but clean) bathroom that is way overdue for an update, the staff was friendly , the location is awesome and the beds were comfortable. I stayed in the motel part, not the cabins. No A/C! Had to leave the windows open at night because it got so hot! But then the neighbors did also, so it was very noisy! Staff were nice but when asked where a good place to eat they said Sizzler. HUH??? So many great mom and pop places they they say this is good? Also advertised dvd's to watch in room and none were available. Cars parked so close to basketball court we were afraid we would hit the cars. Cornhole court was dirty, so was pingpong table. Asked at check in for extra blankets and pillows and they were never delivered. Bed were ok pillows were great! Fantastic location, close to everything. Place was worn but spotless. Check in was very easy, but they did ask for a $100 deposit on top of what I already agreed too. I will NOT be going back! read more

Booked this place last minute through Expedia in hopes of catching the Perseid meteor shower on a Friday night. It had generally positive reviews, and j didn't have time to read all of them. Paid about $270 for one night of the hotel-type rooms after taxes. There is no AC!!! In the middle of summer. Close to $300 a night and we get a couple of fans. It's more of a motel than a hotel. Everything is old and dated. The cabins looked rustic and interesting. But I probably won't be coming back to this place. read more

Went to Big Bear on a whim and booked our cabin through Bring Fido, because it was my golden retriever and i. We've stayed here several times, but this was the first time in a cabin. The front desk woman was very nice and efficient. My cabin, #26, is 3 cabins from the sand. It's a great location across from the grassy area. It's September, so there were very few people. Exactly why we went! The cabin could use an upgrade! The carpet - is disgusting. It's stained beyond recognition. Rip it out!!!! Bare floors would be so much better! The sheets; towels; and pillows were white, clean and i saw no holes or rips. The kitchen area is awesome, but the counters need to be updated. The stove - wow! Needs to be updated. I've not seen a stove that old in quite awhile. I didn't cook bc we ate out, so i can't comment on it's safety or useability. There are no closets. Only one small bar next to the bed for hanging clothes. If I'd stayed longer, that might be an issue. In the winter, jackets, sweaters, etc... where will they hang? There's an awkwardly placed safe in the room, under the tv. I imagined another hanging rack or maybe shelves, under it, for shorter items since there's no storage. I had to use the table for my clothes storage... a longer stay and another person would have been a crowded mess due to lack of storage. Perhaps a shelving unit can find its way into the room. Or add open cabinets in the kitchen area? The big screen tv is nice and easy to use. There's us a dvd/vcr also, that i didn't use. I noticed lots of movies for use in the lobby. I didn't use the fireplace but would love to during colder weather. Fire logs are available to purchase in the lobby. The bathroom is less than efficient bc the lighting is very poor. I had to sit in my car to put my makeup on bc i couldn't stand the very loud bathroom fan and the lack of proper lighting. Another mirror needs to be added in the room so 2 people can get ready at the same time. Perhaps by the table so i could've sat inside for make up prep. The tub is oddly long and deep so that's a huge bonus!! However, the toiletries are less than stellar and are obviously refilled bc the "lotion" was clearly the same product as the "bath gel." And none of the items are great. There were 4 small lotions, however, so i guess dry skin is real for the altitude. The round bar soap was a bit like scrubbing my hands with a glob of sand. Just upgrading these items will seem like its a more high end cabin. And the "artwork" is totally random. It would be better to have nothing than the rando vase of flowers and some other rando piece by the table area. Above the bed and above the fireplace is all that's needed. It looks like someone is trying to fill space unnecessarily. The front porch is awesome!!!!! My pup loved sitting and watching the birds, bats and whatever else was nearby. The provided table and chairs could make for a magical evening w a glass of wine or a spectacular morn with coffee. Please update the pictures on your website --- the lake is nowhere near looking like the photo you posted. The waterline is so far down, that your dock is dry and it's another long way to even be near the lake. Your photos are deceiving, and obvi very outdated. I overheard there's a new General Manager - i hope there are changes coming. The location and design is awesome!! There's so much potential to make these cabins exquisite! I really loved the cabin stay. I wish i could have stayed longer bc the weather was perfect, too. The flowers planted around the cabins are beautiful!! Such a sweet touch! My cabin was $115. I feel like i might have gotten a room somewhere else for a comp price but maybe without the quaintness of s cabin. TBH, i didn't shop around bc I've always enjoyed stays at BBF. We will def be back bc it's always a good time at the mountain. We live in north county, San Diego, and it's about a 2 hour and 15 minute drive. But the peace and quiet makes it worth it! The coffee in the lobby was good!! And there's fully stocked vending machines in the lobby, also, so it's very convenient. Having several couples in several cabins would be an awesome getaway!!! Very summer campish. I'd love to stay in the sand front cabins and hang out on the large patios with a few friends and bbq! Hoping to make that happen soon. The frontier was exactly what we were looking for. The room was clean and just the right size for one night for a family of 4. I like the front desk lodge a lot. You can play pool, get coffee, sit by the fire, borrow books, and borrow DVDs/vhs movies. The grounds were cozy and quiet and steps from the lake. The staff was perfectly fine. Overall, it's no 5 star fancy resort. But it is definitely 5 star for old Big Bear. read more

Lots of communication issues amongst employees. We called to reserve one night and we're told we would be in a newly renovated cabin. After 24 hrs, we never received confirmation on our email so, we call and now are told we are in a room of the lodge. Ok, whatever, it was one night. We made sure to ask that it still have two queen beds because there are four of us, and we are told yes. We ask if we can check in around 2pm and have a late check out of 1pm, once again, we are told yes. We get there at 2pm and told our room isn't ready and won't be until 4pm. We are also told we have to check out by 11am. We explain what we were told so, they knock of $30 and decide to let us check out at noon instead. Ok fine. Still annoyed. We finally get into our room at 4pm and it's two full beds! We call and ask, being told, no, they are queens....bull$h!t. I know what a Queen is. We give up and just go with it. We go out to dinner, come back and there are ants all over the bathroom. It's late, we wipe up the ants and call it a night, at least try too. It was a very warm day, so it was warm in the room. After 20 mins of screwing with the thermostat and getting no cold air, we call the office. A lady who answers tells us, they don't have AC in these rooms! Ummmm....no where anywhere do they say they don't have AC and the new thermostat we were screwing with says AC but it wasn't working. For the amount of money we spent and no AC? And I'm reading in here, there are several complaints of AC issues and the manager who responds says they have AC, yet the lady in the front office told us they don't. They don't know who is saying what around there. They brought us two fans because it was so warm. Oh, and the new "queen" mattresses? No, they aren't new. They are old mattresses covered with new mattress toppers, and they are fulls, not queens...very uncomfortable. Only giving one star for the jacuzzi and the effort of trying to remodel. read more

We have been coming to Big Bear for years. Sometimes we stay at the frontier when we can't find a rental house. We travel with 3 dogs so we don't have the choices people without dogs have. This visit, the room was very beat up and desperately needs remodeling. I saw some cabins in the process of remodeling and putting in air conditioners which will be great. However the cabins they are renting are falling apart and they still charge you their increased rates. Smart TV's are so cheap now a days there is no reason you couldn't put those in every cabin & rooms you rent this way in the evenings people can stream the movies or shows they want, instead of the few channels they offer, let's not forget they had a vhs/dvd player, that says old. Every place I stay in have smart TV's. There was nothing in our room that told us how to get online. I called the desk to find out about WiFi and the man I spoke to seemed bothered by my questions. The staff we ran into on property were never nice, They don't make eye contact, no hello, just a lot of miserable looking employees. I asked one lady a question and she acted bothered as well. I hope with the remodeling you also communicate with employees that part of their job is to answer questions and not act as if we are bothering them. I wish there was a 3.5 stars. Came on a girls weekend here in June and never have I ever thought to ask if a place in the US has AC. This place does not and it was miserable for sleeping at night. The ceiling fan is near the door instead of the center of the room where everyone might enjoy the fan. There was a portable fan in the room that didn't do much. We had to sleep with windows open and that was creepy since our windows were on the balcony hallway where people could look in. If it wasn't for the no air conditioning and the really really old carpet in the room, I may have given four stars. Room was clean and service was decent but you have to request to have your room cleaned. For $200/night on a Saturday I pass next time. read more

While my friend and I enjoyed our stay I didn't think that the room was a good value for the money. Stayed in cabin 2, convenient and quiet. Linens need upgrading, sheets OK, towels thin and cheap feeling. TV reception was fuzzy, we had to buy our own wood for fireplace and at this price should have been included, at least a fake log to start. Bad, glaring lighting throughout. The bathroom was dangerous. Two steps down from the bedroom with no rail and no night light. Toilet was somehow small, like a child's toilet. Do not take this room if you have disabilities, the bathroom is a serious accident waiting to happen. read more

Great stay! This was a perfect way to practice social distancing. Debbie, who worked at the front desk, was extremely kind and helpful! My boyfriend and I stayed in cabin #22 (studio cabin). It was walking distance to the lake and very peaceful. The ONLY suggestion for management would be to get the shower fixed. There seemed to be a crack in the floor, which kept the shower at very cold temperatures throughout our stay even with the heater and fireplace going. This is a happy medium between a hotel and an air bnb/full-sized cabin if you're going to Big Bear with one or two other people (in terms of price) and accommodations. We've stayed at Big Bear Frontier several times and it's either a hit or miss when it comes down to the rooms/cabins. So far we have stayed in a one bedroom cabin, one bedroom cabin w/whirlpool and a small studio cabin. All came with a fire place and you can purchase fire wood at the lobby. The employees at the front desk are always super nice and they have free coffee and hot chocolate at the lobby. You can also rent videos (yes VHS!) and DVDs at the lobby. The property is right by the lake so no matter which room you stay the walk to lake is super close. There's also a little picnic area by the lake so you can enjoy the fantastic view of the lake with a cup of coffee in the morning (mornings cannot get any better than this!). Prices are very reasonable compared to a lot of the cabin rentals. I don't think they have a minimum stay requirement either. Dogs are allowed for $15 per pet per night. Out of all the rooms we've stayed at, the one bedroom cabin (no whirlpool) was probably the best one. It had a small area where you can dust off the snow from your shoes after you enter the front door. There's another door after that to enter the living room. There was a queen size bed you can pull down in the living room, a sofa, dining table, fire place, full kitchen, and a queen size bed in the bedroom. The cabin was really clean and what I really love about the cabins here is the bear decor & wooden furniture throughout the cabin! Even the toilet roll holder is cute! Haha. The one bedroom cabin with whirlpool was ok. The whirlpool seemed somewhat dirty and a bit discolored. I probably would not pay the extra money to get the room with the whirlpool next time. The one bedroom cabin w/out the whirlpool was so much better and cleaner. We've stayed at the studio two times and the first one we stayed at was SUPER tiny! The bedroom pretty much was mostly occupied with the queen size bed. The bathroom was tiny as well. However, the studio cabin we had two days ago was really nice!!! I believe it was cabin #27. You're next to the lake so you get to enjoy breath taking views right outside of your door step! This room also did not seem as tiny as the other studio cabin we stayed at. Maybe it has to do with the structure of the room. There is a kitchen to your right and the bed and sofa in the middle. There's also a small booth located right by the kitchen and a fireplace to the left of the entrance. The room was very clean and the bathroom seemed larger and brighter than the other one. This room was large enough for two adults and two dogs (one large & one medium size dog). I'd definitely stay at room #27 again. Although some rooms are better than others, I'd probably continue to stay at Big Bear Frontier since their prices are reasonable, it's pretty clean, and the easy access to the lake! So, first of all what a terrific location. I stayed lakeside and after this rainy season it was so nice. I'm enjoying it tremendously. This place is so romantic if that's what you want. Location rocks. My plans were family related but I can see young couples or any couple LOVING the serenity of this place and kindness of the staff. So, what made this trip for me?? The staff. Plain and simple. The staff. I've stayed all over the world and in every type of hotel imaginable. From $10 a night to $10,000 a night. BIG BEAR FRONTIER is absolutely amazing oozing with great customer service. The front desk man LOUIE is absolutely the nicest guy and so customer orientated. I was blown away. He truly wanted my Mother and myself and to have a terrific time. Such a genuine guy. I'm so blessed. He truly represents this hotel well and Big Bear as well. Later on, I had a maintenance guy come by to fix something. Not a big deal. And low and behold he was such a gem as well. KEITH absolutely was so kind and had customer in mind always. You can tell this place hires based on merit. What a breath of fresh air. Merit and integrity is why the staff is how they are. Keith was quickly handling the issue and was gone. This place has a hotel and little cabins. I stayed in the hotel part. Its not a hotel where you have a lobby and all that. It's literally the building with units. It's right on the lake but you don't look out on it. there is a little private 'beach' area. You can easily walk to The Village. The walls are thin. My first night was fine because there weren't many people there. The second night was bad. The people next to me were on their cell until 11pm and it was so inconsiderate. Then the person above me moved furniture the entire night and morning and it made for a horrible sleep. If I come back I'd request a top unit. DON'T get a unit below unless you don't mind the noise of people above. It felt safe. I was by myself. They are pet friendly. If you know Truckee/Tahoe, it's very much that feel. Lots of activities to do in Big Bear. The Village area is great and there are a lot of shops. read more

This place is not cheap but it's not overly expensive for what you get, in my experience. The room was clean and comfortable. Bed was comfy. Pillows were big and fluffy. Had a full kitchen in my unit with a mini view of the lake across the street from unit 7. The room was really cute with wood decor which I love. Electric fireplace but no AC, only fans. It is big bear. They are Big Bear where most of their tourists are during ski season. And with the elevation it stays cool there year around for the most part. My room stayed cool with windows opened all day and certain blinds open if they were in the shade. Only down side was that there were multiple soft spots in the floor board in the main rooms so I twisted my ankle when I first got there and had to avoid walking in certain spots in the living room. And the carpet was badly stained, to be expected in snow country. But overall it fit the bill for my needs read more

**Beware** If you have any sort of allergies this place is not for you not because of pets but because of lack of cleaning. The rooms are not clean and are outdated. We contacted the office so we could get new bed sheets and out bathroom clean since the bed sheets had stains. Pros: you get a view and fairly close to the shops. read more

Worst experience ever !!!! We arrived here first time in big bear for 3 night, and we booked a "king bed room with jacoozy". The room need updates so bad !!!! Carpet was disgusting and not fresh, the jacoozy looked so old and the paint is almost gone, didnt feel clean . The sheets had whols in them in a very bad shape, and the worst is the towels that had black stains on them and all whols in such a bad condision that you feel uncomfortable using them after a clean shower. The heater dosent work well the room was pretty cold during the snow storm and when ive talked to the front desk they were not nice and rude and send us a tiny heater so laud !!!!!! Last chance that you have in that place is using the fireplace and its expensive and hard to carry in the snow . And another thing that is not acceptable is the tge "hot" water was not hot at all!!! No actually hot water to use the jacoozy bearly to take a shower without freezing so ice just paid for a jacoozy room for nothing. In 3 night 4 daya stay ive have to ask so many times that someone will comed to clean the room, when ive called the srcond day to ask at least for "fresh" towels they told me that someone will cone to bring me twice !!! Off courseno one came i had to leave the room to get them myself wanted just to take a shower. Such a bad experience here in big bear, ive could find way better for the price that ive paid and the worst is that you have no costumer Service in this place! I felt so frustrated that i set here in the room in my last day writing it couldent wait to leave ! Save your money. read more

Place is good great location. Close to everything. Near the Lake. Beds are horrible bring your own bedding for more cushion. Three families stayed in the hotel part all of us left with soar backs not good! Need to change mattresses to old! read more
