Just to clarify, I never tried checking in early. You called me around 2pm to let me know I can check in at that time. I informed you that we were driving and our ETA would be the time normal check in is which was 4pm. Because you know, we planned to arrive at check in time, not earlier due to the fact that we were traveling with two small children and our family dog. Why chance getting there early for an early check in when we would possibly have to wait? Makes no sense, so that is a blatant lie of "accommodating" me. As for "no threat" of the other person saying they were going to burn down the motel, you obviously didn't listen to my complaints and were so worried about me asking for a refund. Because those were the first words out of your mouth when I called to complain. Doesn't really matter anyway. I don't even know where to start. We visited two rooms. First room smelled like an ashtray and there was non smoking signs on the wall and a candle lit- I'll let you put two and two together. The pull out bed was broken, the foot side of it was bent down and the bars were bent. Cob webs and dust all over the place. Same with the second room. I was traveling from PA and sunny and his family showed nothing but high quality customer service and if anything was needed it was provided. Theres excellent WiFi connection with all the apps you can watch on the TV, a great outdoor look and area for children to play and cookout with your friends. Horrible customer service room was not ready on time. They said they would come in 15 minutes never showed up. Had to go pick up keys at a different hotel dirty rotten banana left in the room, mildew on the shower curtain, bathroom sink, handles, broken, heater did not work and it was 40° had five teenage kids working behind the counter laughing and some did not speak English. For the price, it was a good value! I paid $106 (including tax and fees) for one night in Nov 2022. The regular rate was $130 /night but there was a discount on booking.com. If I paid more, I would be less happy. What do you expect for $99/night? Good: very hot shower, comfy bed, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, flat screen TV with all the channels. Excellent customer service. Perfect location near Snow Summit. Bad: walls are thin (even on the 2nd floor, you still hear everything), room is dark, heater is temperamental, and everything could use a spruce up. If they invested in new linens, curtains, etc, it'd go a long way. Overall I would stay here again if the price was right! read more

Covid review NYE 2020 and NYD 2021 We were gifted this stay from a family member. This lodge is a mix between a motel and a cabin. The inside feels like a small cabin and the outside looks like more of a motel since the front door opens to the outside. We had a small full kitchen, heater, very very old and large TV and a fire place in our one bed, one bath room suite. Parking is uncovered and right in front of the rooms. The location is off a semi main road but can be hard to detect,especially at night since it's a side road and there sign is not very visible. Great location close to snowplays, skiing, restaurants, trails, grocery stores, coffee shops and the lake of course! Maybe the only con....... the walls are apparently wafer paper thin. I mean you could here everyone in the connecting rooms very clearly. They also allow dogs...so this is sort of a con for us due to the excessive barking and the thin walls. Would I return.... maybe... but the price doesn't necessarily help with the thin wall situation. read more

Dear owners: Invest. In. Soundproofing. (And WD40) The neighbor upstairs clearly had 2 very sick babies that cried the WHOLE night last night. They got no sleep, and neither did we. Also, we can hear every step anyone takes and every squeaky door that opens. Other than a lack of sleep, the rooms are pretty nice. The 2 bed suite has a lovely fireplace, plenty of room and storage, a working stove, and usable dinnerwear (including cooking pots and sheets). The only main gripe is its claustrophobic bathroom. If you're over 5 foot 8 or a bigger build, the shower and toilet space is a bit of nightmare. If you're obese, forget about it. read more

- NEGATIVE Star Review. Worst STAY of our life! Bates motel instead of Goldmine lodge. Door knobs falling off, just enough soap in the shower and hand dispensers, no central lighting, plus not all the lamps worked, bulbs were out, there were 2 fans in the closet 1 broken the other didn't work. When I called they kept saying can you try again. Then they said they were on thier way, 30 mins later an owner should up in a very expensive car with an old table fan. Then at 11 pm someone was stomping upstairs but we were the only people registered. So Bizarre we were the ONLY ones at Goldmine Lodge and now I know why. Then they tried to entrap us, and charge 30.00 for early check in, my husband talked to 2 people. No one told him there was a 30 fee for checking in early. We refused to pay it. You have to call a number, no one is ever in the office. Then they say 15 mins but in reality they take 30 mins. 5 remotes none worked. TV took over an hour to start up . We asked for 2 queens , we got 2 Fulls. No blow dryer or iron in the room. We were the ONLY ones at the lodge. The heater didn't work. The coffee maker didnt work. No Netflix, Disney, Hulu etc. There were no dishes in the kitchen, the hot water in the shower, no tub, took over 15 mins to finally get hot. The pillows were thin as paper, I did better with my travel pillow. The beds were hard as a Rock. I had to get an adjustment at my chiropractor when I got home. I call this the Bates Motel experience. Stay at your own risk , oh and No Refunds Ever it's posted on a sign, which means they can do or Not do whatever they want. The young girl Aracely in the office was very kind and accommodating. I don't want her getting in trouble. The owners, very different story, and not in a good way. Goldmine Lodge staff called us early on check-in day and invited us to arrive early. A great team. The rooms were cozy, clean and had extra blankets just in case. I would like to give this place more Stars but the issues with this place just won't allow me to give them more. It's almost repairable. This lodging may fit for some folks but I'd imagine the vast majority of folks will find some issues unbearable(at least I did). Here are a list of Pros and Cons: Pros: Great Location Fairly comfortable bed Kind and prompt front desk staff Water pressure is awesome Heater works well. Solid WI-FI Con: Walls and ceiling THIN - PAPER THIN, like using tissue paper. My daughter was complaining the entire weekend we could hear people above us and to the side of us. We had to wear earplugs. The only way to fix this is probably to put up new walls or sound mitigation stuff. This is the worst thing about this place. And it makes it unbearable to stay. Old TV - It's a tube tv, don't expect a flat screen Fridge - working but was left unclean when we arrive. Someone had left milk in the fridge. yuk There are great reasons to stay here if you are looking for a quick overnight stay and if you choose an end room or specifically a room on the 2nd floor. But if you stay on the 1st floor, be advised, it'll be very very hard to sleep. read more

I took time to read the reviews posted on here, only to find out it was not what we had expected! Although the front desk gentleman was professional and cordial, I can't help but think about the accommodations. First of all, you don't want to stay here in the summer unless you want to sleep with the windows open and use rotating fans! Secondly, water gets hot if other customers are using the shower at the same time. Third, there is no one available after 10pm, so if you get someone above you who has small children running around or people banging things late at night you will hear it! Last, looking at a broken washer and dryer by the office entrance should have been a warning sign. read more

Stayed in Cottage 1 May 29 2019. I was participating in the spartan race in big bear. Booked in advance. For 2 nights. Good things I liked: Location, perfect size for two, pillows were comfy, heater kept it cozy and warm during the day, fridge was clean and had no smell, hot water was available for showers. Things I disliked: When arriving, we noticed a couple things upon excitedly inspecting our sweet cottage. Dead spiders in the shower, broken shingles in the main room next to the spa tub and in the bathroom. Which made privacy feel so uncomfortable.There was also spiders in the corners. In the kitchen, there was a paper towel roll stuffed in a hole right above the stove, which later a spider dropped out of and onto our pizza we had ordered and placed on the stove. When warming up and stretching for our race, we noticed the carpet smelled bad. When we shut off the Heater at night, it and i'm guessing water pipes were making noise all night, I didn't sleep this trip. The second night, my husband wanted to try out the spa tub. I cleaned off all the smeared gunk, and dead spiders so he could use it. He noticed sharp debris hitting and hurting his legs. When it drained we discovered a lot of junk, I'm guessing wall plaster was coming had come out of the spa tub. The worst part of all this was the Property managers response, which I'm not surprised because I noticed she was not receptive to feedback from previous reviewers either. She made me feel like a liar, and my review/concerns had no value to her. I also think she might have gotten confused about which cottage we were in, because we never asked her for a late checkout, I didn't speak to her when I dropped off the keys, and like I said In my review, "once was enough" & I wouldn't stay here again. And there was in fact a stove in our cottage. I think she needs to address the spa tub concern asap because that sharp stuff really hurts. Also, I read someone else complain about the spiders. So her response about the spiders is so inconsiderate. PROPERTY OWNERS RESPONSE I am very surprised to see this review. That Cottage is rented every week and we ALWAYS get great reviews. That rental does not have a stove. I am wondering how you found a roll of paper towels stuffed in above it. I have personally stayed in that Cottage and have never found anything sharp and skin cutting coming out of the water. I have been checking that unit for over 7 years and have never found a spider. As far as smelling the carpet! I am wondering how you did that. I will go over today and lay on the carpet and see if I can tell what you are talking about. If it does have an odor I will have it cleaned again. I am sorry that you had such a time here. You were so excited when I said you could check out later, which you did. You even thanked me for the extra time at late check out. If everything was that bad as you say why did you want to stay longer? I also wonder if everything was so bad why didn't you bring it to our attention during your stay? and or let the maid know when she came over? There are lots of choices in Big Bear Lake. The Goldmine Lodge was a great place to stay and so much more than expected. It was great value for the price! Management was warm and friendly. We were offered an upgrade to a 2 room suite which included an equipped kitchen area, a charming and rustic living room with wood burning fireplace and a furnished bedroom with 2 comfortable double beds. There were even 2 flat screen TVs with Roku. The furnishings and design accessories were cozy and charming. The shower was nice and hot! Everything was spotless. There was a nice garden area for relaxing and entertaining, complete with barbecue grills. We like the lovely location on Moonridge Road near the ski area. It was a short enough drive to gas, and restaurants and not far to bird/nature viewing areas (why we came to Big Bear). read more

This was indeed a Goldmine. It's about 7 minutes away from the convention center and 5 minutes from the village area. If you are looking for a cabin lodge feel this is the place to go. Each room is decorated with its own theme. I was originally in the Pinecone Room and it had a pinecone feel. There were a few pincones sprinkled in the room. The blanket was a pinecone theme. Unfortunately, our neighbors below us were really loud and we had to request another room. The front desk lady was really nice about it. She told us there wasn't another room available but offered us a suite instead that was located on the front end side. We were able to get a good night sleep. This place does feel like you are staying in the woods. There are large pine trees that surround the lodge. I would definitely come back on a much needed getaway. read more

I stayed here with friends for Labor Day weekend 2012, and we had a FABULOUS experience! Sharon Freitas, the owner, could not have been more kind and accommodating. I had booked a cabin on VRBO, and when the owner of the cabin totally flaked after I payed a deposit, I called Sharon at the Goldmine Lodge in a panic the night before we were leaving and she held a two room suite for me that was perfect for our group. She was happy to allow my dog, and she was always easy to reach and completely generous with check in and check out times - something you will never find at a chain hotel! The lady Sharon is warm and welcoming. We got here on Sat 1:20pm and she let us check in. Actually she was gonna go on break but she saw us. She told us to check in first then she will go on break. We are at first floor room 2. The room is good for two ppl one queen bed. It comes with a mini frig, tv, DVD player, and a coffee machine. It's nice and decent. The bathroom is small yet not a problem. The shower is strong which really adds lots of point to it. U can hear ppl walking around if ur first floor but that's normal. It's cute lodge that had little play ground and swing. It locates close to big bear blvd and walking distance (if u like to walk) to restaurants and grocery stores. Stayed here in the beginning of June when the temperature still gets down to the 30's. The heater did not work and the room never got above 68. We called the office to have them look at it. A very nice man came to attempt to fix it, however it was a failed attempt. Luckily there was a fire place that provided some heat. However that heat is temporary and does not reach the bedroom. We called the following morning, and the office was very unprofessional blaming us that we could not "acclimate" to cold weather. Instead of apologizing for the heater not working, we were blamed. If you're coming here in the summer and don't need heat, this place may be for you. However if you're coming in the winter when it snows, you will not be too happy if you need a heater. read more

My family booked a room for a last minute get away. When we arrived we realized it was not like the photos and did not fit our pups well. We requested a refund in which the man at the desk was very rude, he threatened us to pay and then went online to report a no show. We were very much present. He then continued to charge our card without otherization more than it was suppose to be. It seems like a shady place. Not worth it for the hospitality given. read more

This review would be five stars if not for the paper thin walls. Our next door neighbors were loud, came in late after drinking and blasted the TV late at night. The walls are so thin you can hear the people next door sneeze. I need to remember to pack earplugs on trips. Goldmine Lodge is conveniently located near a Walgreens, Von's and a Dollar Tree. Super handy if you forget to to pack your toothpaste. There are also several restaurants a short drive away. Our room was super clean with a mini fridge to keep drinks cool. I picked up the ice bucket and went out in search of the ice machine...they don't have one. Ok, no biggie. The bed was a tad soft for my taste, I like to sleep on a board. Three were plenty of towels in the bathroom. The owner is a super sweet lady who rearranged our plans twice when we had to cancel at the last minute. The hotel is pet friendly with a grassy area for the doggies to roam on. The wifi dropped frequently, but you are way up in the mountains. We had a great stay here. Rented cottage #3 for two nights so we could introduce our 3-year-old to snow. Cute place with "bears gone fishing" theme! Pros: Friendly service - we had to arrange for late check in, but that wasn't a problem. Location is near the Village. Nice back yard area for our child to play in (with supervision). Full kitchen, good bathroom with nice shower. My husband says he had a hard time getting the temp just right in the shower, but I didn't. Cons are: The bedroom window was very drafty. Being from LA, my face/nose was too cold the first night. I was glad I packed our down comforter for extra warmth. On the other hand, the heater in the living room/main area worked like a madman. The next night, when I switched to the pull-out couch in that room, I had to keep turning down the heat because I felt like I was on fire. But a good problem to have. TV is old and wonky, but we weren't there to watch TV. We played in the snow and had some fun in town. I love Big Bear, and would definitely book this cottage again. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to stay here on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. The price was low to moderate compared to other places in the area. When we checked in at about 4pm on Friday, the lady that greeted us was very nice. She explained that we would be staying in the "Cowboy Room" and that there is a separate spa and spa key if we would like to use that as well. We planned on it, but didn't get a chance. Our room was very clean. It was a little dark and there was no bathtub, just a stand-up shower. It had a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, tv, and dvd player. There was also a small table with two chairs by the window. Overall this place would have been fairly nice if it weren't for the noise. Apparently the walls are extremely thin. Both nights we heard our neighbors to the left being incredibly intimate and our neighbors to the right partying. It was so bad that we could barely hear the movie that we rented and had to use closed captioning. I wouldn't recommend it for a quiet weekend getaway. read more

Spent the night here for a bike race and was very happy. The woman at the office was very friendly and gave me a bit of leeway on checkout. The room was clean and had a cozy feel to it. The bathroom was a pretty good size as well. The best part was the bed, incredibly comfortable. The walls are a bit thin as i heard my neighbors boning at 6am but some might see that as a plus. The best part is the proximity to snow summit. It is walking distance away. The only real complaint was the wifi was spotty. read more

It's true the Goldmine Lodge, is a bit of a gold mine! We weren't sure what to expect because we found this quaint little lodge online, but it suited our needs perfectly. We booked a suite which had a kitchen, it had everything we needed. No need to bring anything. There's a Vons right down the street save time and get what you need there. The Rooms are a three star quality but with attention to detail, more like a B&B with out the breakfast. The owner Sharon, had fresh-baked cookies for us upon arrival and was very accommodating. This is not the kind of place to book if you're going to have a really loud party of people as you can hear everything through the walls. In fact if you get an upstairs room be mindful of the people underneath you as every little step and conversation was heard from our upstairs neighbors. ( Not really enjoyable when it's 6:30am but it's nothing this lodge can control ) The grounds are quite relaxing, there's a grassy area, child's play set, horseshoes, barbecue, and while there is no pool there is a Jacuzzi. The prices are very reasonable for what you get, especially if you're a party of three or more and book as suite as you can save money by cooking. All in all its a great little place! As everyone else mentioned, Sharon was great and very accommodating, but the walls were indeed PAPER thin. The room we stayed in, the Cowboy Suite, was very charming and true to name down to the very last horseshoe-engraved detail. I could deal with pretty much everything except that I checked their website prior to arrival to see what I needed to bring with me. When I got out of the shower I found there was no hairdryer in the room as the website said. I called the office and Sharon kept one down there apparently, but that means getting dressed with dripping wet hair and walking downstairs to the office. Minorly annoying. Next, since they claimed to have a VCR in the room, we rented a bunch of redbox DVDs to have a night in since we planned to hit the lake early and it turns out there was no DVD player to be found. Majorly annoying to find out after you already turned in for the night. Cute lodge and friendly owners, but they should probably update their website with real-time information on the amenities. read more

My friends and I stayed at the Goldmine Lodge two weeks ago and we are still talking about how great our stay was. First and foremost, Sharon is wonderful. We walked in to the quaint office and were greeted by Sharon with freshly baked cookies (100 calories in each, best sugar cookies ever). She put us in the Pine Cone room which is as lovely as it sounds. Totally cozy, comfortable, great water pressure, warm, the electric fireplace!!!!!!! Incredible. We had never been to Big Bear so Sharon was kind enough to recommend several places for dinner, drinks, breakfast etc. The lodge itself is in a great location, super convenient, and close to the town center. Next time we're in Big Bear, we are definitely going to call Sharon and reserve our room. :) read more

Adorable lodge that had the feel of a B&B. Super romantic and charming with great service! Sharon was very helpful and it was clear she wanted to ensure we had a great night. Sharon told us the walls were thin, but we lucked out and didn't have anyone near us when we stayed. The temperature of the hot tub was too tepid for my taste after boarding all day on the mountain, so we opted for hot showers instead. I definitely recommend running the shower a bit so it can heat up. We'll definitely be back!! read more

What a peaceful and cozy place to stay! It's a bit hidden yet close to the shopping centers. The room was perfect. It had all the utensils, dishes and pans I needed. It was cozy, clean and I love that each room has a theme. We stayed in the Deer suite. I met Karen, she is very nice and accomadating. We came up to BB for the weekend to relax...and that's exactly what we got. We had a great experience and will definitely stay at this lodge again. read more

I stayed at the Goldmine Lodge for my birthday weekend, it was the perfect little cabin everything was nice and clean when my girlfriend and I walked in. There was even hot coco, the cabinets were stocked with plates and bowls also the fridge was extremely cold... maybe too cold our milk froze. The heating in the cabin was also very warm they have a wood burning fireplace too! With literally 900feet drive to Bear Mountain this place was perfect! Will be coming back for sure read more

Got this place because all other hotel rates were insane. We got a good price and the room was pretty nice. It was clean and close to Bear Mountain. Their wi-fi saved our trip because I was able to order the UFC pay-per-view and see it from my room(via laptop) since no one in the Village was offering the fight.
