For the price, it was a good value! I paid $106 (including tax and fees) for one night in Nov 2022. The regular rate was $130 /night but there was a discount on booking.com. If I paid more, I would be less happy. What do you expect for $99/night? Good: very hot shower, comfy bed, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, flat screen TV with all the channels. Excellent customer service. Perfect location near Snow Summit. Bad: walls are thin (even on the 2nd floor, you still hear everything), room is dark, heater is temperamental, and everything could use a spruce up. If they invested in new linens, curtains, etc, it'd go a long way. Overall I would stay here again if the price was right!

Old kitchen and nasty looking appliances

Please do whatever you do but do not stay here Pictures are deceiving This place is about 10 minutes from the village You have to show up at your check in time because no one will be in the office between 7pm to 2:30 pm NO AIR CONDITIONER I REPEAT NO AIR CONDITIONER $30 per dod deposit per night Old ugly decor Carpets are dark brown to avoid seeing stains that's ripped in several places Place looks haunted!!!! No lights to see the hotel if you're arriving at night plus no one is the office to check you in It's super ugly and not comfortable at all It was 80 degrees and we realized that there's no AC Ewwwww just ewwwwww

Covid review NYE 2020 and NYD 2021 We were gifted this stay from a family member. This lodge is a mix between a motel and a cabin. The inside feels like a small cabin and the outside looks like more of a motel since the front door opens to the outside. We had a small full kitchen, heater, very very old and large TV and a fire place in our one bed, one bath room suite. Parking is uncovered and right in front of the rooms. The location is off a semi main road but can be hard to detect, especially at night since it's a side road and there sign is not very visible. Great location close to snowplays, skiing, restaurants, trails, grocery stores, coffee shops and the lake of course! Maybe the only con....... the walls are apparently wafer paper thin. I mean you could here everyone in the connecting rooms very clearly. They also allow dogs...so this is sort of a con for us due to the excessive barking and the thin walls. Would I return.... maybe... but the price doesn't necessarily help with the thin wall situation.

Nice fireplace. Woof was $10, cash only.

Dear owners: Invest. In. Soundproofing. (And WD40) The neighbor upstairs clearly had 2 very sick babies that cried the WHOLE night last night. They got no sleep, and neither did we. Also, we can hear every step anyone takes and every squeaky door that opens. Other than a lack of sleep, the rooms are pretty nice. The 2 bed suite has a lovely fireplace, plenty of room and storage, a working stove, and usable dinnerwear (including cooking pots and sheets). The only main gripe is its claustrophobic bathroom. If you're over 5 foot 8 or a bigger build, the shower and toilet space is a bit of nightmare. If you're obese, forget about it.

Kitchen sink like I grew up with in the 60's loved it

very quaint motel reminds me of vacations in the 60's, except for great tv choices, staff was friendly, polite, and very comfortable. Location is perfect we could not have asked for me. loved loved loved our stay!!!!

    - NEGATIVE Star Review. Worst STAY of our life! Bates motel instead of Goldmine lodge. Door knobs falling off, just enough soap in the shower and hand dispensers, no central lighting, plus not all the lamps worked, bulbs were out, there were 2 fans in the closet 1 broken the other didn't work. When I called they kept saying can you try again. Then they said they were on thier way, 30 mins later an owner should up in a very expensive car with an old table fan. Then at 11 pm someone was stomping upstairs but we were the only people registered. So Bizarre we were the ONLY ones at Goldmine Lodge and now I know why. Then they tried to entrap us, and charge 30.00 for early check in, my husband talked to 2 people. No one told him there was a 30 fee for checking in early. We refused to pay it. You have to call a number, no one is ever in the office. Then they say 15 mins but in reality they take 30 mins. 5 remotes none worked. TV took over an hour to start up . We asked for 2 queens , we got 2 Fulls. No blow dryer or iron in the room. We were the ONLY ones at the lodge. The heater didn't work. The coffee maker didnt work. No Netflix, Disney, Hulu etc. There were no dishes in the kitchen, the hot water in the shower, no tub, took over 15 mins to finally get hot. The pillows were thin as paper, I did better with my travel pillow. The beds were hard as a Rock. I had to get an adjustment at my chiropractor when I got home. I call this the Bates Motel experience. Stay at your own risk , oh and No Refunds Ever it's posted on a sign, which means they can do or Not do whatever they want. The young girl Aracely in the office was very kind and accommodating. I don't want her getting in trouble. The owners, very different story, and not in a good way. I have pictures to prove it

Stuff that came out of the Spa Tub is sharp.

Stayed in Cottage 1 May 29 2019. I was participating in the spartan race in big bear. Booked in advance. For 2 nights. Good things I liked: Location, perfect size for two, pillows were comfy, heater kept it cozy and warm during the day, fridge was clean and had no smell, hot water was available for showers. Things I disliked: When arriving, we noticed a couple things upon excitedly inspecting our sweet cottage. Dead spiders in the shower, broken shingles in the main room next to the spa tub and in the bathroom. Which made privacy feel so uncomfortable. There was also spiders in the corners. In the kitchen, there was a paper towel roll stuffed in a hole right above the stove, which later a spider dropped out of and onto our pizza we had ordered and placed on the stove. When warming up and stretching for our race, we noticed the carpet smelled bad. When we shut off the Heater at night, it and i'm guessing water pipes were making noise all night, I didn't sleep this trip. The second night, my husband wanted to try out the spa tub. I cleaned off all the smeared gunk, and dead spiders so he could use it. He noticed sharp debris hitting and hurting his legs. When it drained we discovered a lot of junk, I'm guessing wall plaster was coming had come out of the spa tub. The worst part of all this was the Property managers response, which I'm not surprised because I noticed she was not receptive to feedback from previous reviewers either. She made me feel like a liar, and my review/concerns had no value to her. I also think she might have gotten confused about which cottage we were in, because we never asked her for a late checkout, I didn't speak to her when I dropped off the keys, and like I said In my review, "once was enough" & I wouldn't stay here again. And there was in fact a stove in our cottage. I think she needs to address the spa tub concern asap because that sharp stuff really hurts. Also, I read someone else complain about the spiders. So her response about the spiders is so inconsiderate. PROPERTY OWNERS RESPONSE I am very surprised to see this review. That Cottage is rented every week and we ALWAYS get great reviews. That rental does not have a stove. I am wondering how you found a roll of paper towels stuffed in above it. I have personally stayed in that Cottage and have never found anything sharp and skin cutting coming out of the water. I have been checking that unit for over 7 years and have never found a spider. As far as smelling the carpet! I am wondering how you did that. I will go over today and lay on the carpet and see if I can tell what you are talking about. If it does have an odor I will have it cleaned again. I am sorry that you had such a time here. You were so excited when I said you could check out later, which you did. You even thanked me for the extra time at late check out. If everything was that bad as you say why did you want to stay longer? I also wonder if everything was so bad why didn't you bring it to our attention during your stay? and or let the maid know when she came over? There are lots of choices in Big Bear Lake. I hope if you return you would find something more to your liking.

This was indeed a Goldmine. It's about 7 minutes away from the convention center and 5 minutes from the village area. If you are looking for a cabin lodge feel this is the place to go. Each room is decorated with its own theme. I was originally in the Pinecone Room and it had a pinecone feel. There were a few pincones sprinkled in the room. The blanket was a pinecone theme. Unfortunately, our neighbors below us were really loud and we had to request another room. The front desk lady was really nice about it. She told us there wasn't another room available but offered us a suite instead that was located on the front end side. We were able to get a good night sleep. This place does feel like you are staying in the woods. There are large pine trees that surround the lodge. I would definitely come back on a much needed getaway.

I called to schedule our massages and was told, "Sorry, we don't do that". Asked about the spa and said they said it was under renovations. This was after I had booked the stay. You cannot set any apts. up until 24 hrs before your stay. Okay, fine we can outsource the massages, plus it was too late to cancel without losing money. Also 24 hours before check in they send you a message requesting you to pre-register by texting another number. I did and received no responce. It's fine we'll go early and do it in person. We get there to check-in and there is a sign at the front desk, "please text this number for check in. We are helping other guests." Okay, fair we were a bit early (about 50 min). I send off a message. We go off to get some food and wait for a responce. NOTHING! We came back to the hotel after 4 and the same sign was there. This time I call and the manager (I assume) answers and he does a "remote" check in. I now have to give my card info over the phone and get my key out of 1 of the 3 lock boxes located on the outside of the building. Not to excited about that. We get our key and go to the room. Not the room I booked. It smelled old and musty. Booked a King, got 2 queens.. Fine, we can manage. We get settled in and then went to go get dinner. Got back to the room to take an evening swim. This was 7:30 pm. Walked down the hall to the pool and was stopped by 2 cats just roaming. I am good with kitties, but seemed strange at first, then again seemed on par for our experience so far.... Onto the pool. Sign on the door..... pool closes at 6pm. HUH???? At that point we just went back to the room. Tucked in for the night. NEXT MORNING! Went to use the restroom and noticed either blood or poop SMEARED ON THE WALL directly across from the toilet under the towels. YUCK!!! Spouse tried to use the coffe maker in the room and it wouldn't work. Now, I have just about had it. As we were getting dressed to go address everything with the manager, we were both half naked and A STAFF MEMBER WALKS RIGHT INTO OUR ROOM!!!!! ABSOLUTELY DONE! Screamed at him to get out. Now our saftey is in question. We packed our bags and got a refund! This was by far the MOST HORRIFIC experience I have ever had. If I could give no stars I would. False advertising, poor staff etiquette and not to mention a HUGE safty factor if anyone can walk into your room even when it's locked.

Our check-in time was 3:00 pm, and we arrived around 3:30 pm with three tired kids hoping to settle in quickly. Unfortunately, our room wasn't ready, so we waited in the lobby. At 4:00 pm we were assigned a room, but it still wasn't finished -- no sheets on the beds, no pillowcases, crumbs in the sink, and hair in the bathroom like someone had recently shaved. It seemed like there was miscommunication between the front desk and housekeeping. We finally got into a fully cleaned room around 4:30 pm. After a long day of traveling with kids, it was definitely disappointing. That said, the staff members who were working truly made a difference. Joshua, who checked us in, was very apologetic. He was the only person working the front desk at the time. He stayed professional the entire time. A huge shoutout also goes to Edwin, who was working unbelievably hard. We saw him helping with rooms, assisting at breakfast, and keeping things running smoothly. His work ethic really stood out and he deserves recognition. Once we settled in, the hotel had lots of positives: The complimentary s'mores kits were a big hit with the kids. Each kit included four marshmallows, one Hershey's bar, and four graham crackers, wrapped in a festive Thanksgiving bag. The outdoor fireplace courtyard is huge and made the experience even better. This was especially great because the little town of Big Bear tends to close early, so having this activity at the hotel was perfect. The pool area was clean and well maintained, which is also perfect option for family with kids (just a way to entertain them while having fun). The complimentary breakfast was also surprisingly good. The waffles were awesome, and there were plenty of options like cereal, oatmeal, eggs, and potatoes. I would love to see a few more condiments added (like mayonnaise or mustard), but overall it was a great breakfast spread. The room layout was spacious, very comfortable, and perfect for a family. Despite the rocky start at check-in, the hotel has a lot of charm, great amenities, and truly hardworking staff members who care.

Thanks to Joel, we got to enjoy so much more than just a hotel stay. We had a bit of a rough start to our trip when one of my children got carsick on the drive up. Joel immediately stepped in with cleaning supplies and genuine kindness and concern. His compassion and willingness to help meant so much to me as a mom traveling with two kids. Since my husband was in town for work and couldn't help us the entire time, I was handling the kids on my own and wasn't very prepared for our last-minute trip. Joel went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and helped arrange a room closer to the entrance, which made a huge difference for us. The hotel itself was fantastic. Everything was spotless, the indoor pool was amazing, and the outdoor fire pits and s'mores nights created such a fun family atmosphere. My kids had an incredible time, and we enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to extend it for another night and spend another beautiful day in the mountains. Joel's exceptional customer service truly made this trip special. He is caring, attentive, and genuinely dedicated to making guests feel welcome. We left with wonderful memories and are already dreaming of coming back. Thank you, Joel, for taking such great care of our family!

We stayed in cabin 16, I was able to scope out 17 and has been updated recently and is more modern. They both cost the same so I would probably go with 17 it's really the best bang for your buck. Finding our cabin at night was fairly difficult if you are able to check in during the day I would definitely say do that. We eventually found our cabin, they all look the same and aren't marked terribly well. The parking is a bit tight I came straight from buying a new fairly expensive car so I had to park a few different times until I was satisfied I would avoid a door ding but that was probably new car paranoia and if you don't arrive after midnight like a dummy you'll probably have a better chance at choice parking. Once in the cabin I saw there was one of those QR codes on the wall for you to scan and when you do they offer a coupon code that can't be applied retroactively of course so I was kinda bummed by that because it only required a 3 day stay to receive the discount and we stayed over twice that long so perhaps it could have been offered. I found it online as well so before you book look online for coupon codes because they're available. I found booking straight from their website was less expensive than Expedia and the other travel sites. For the price I think this place is unbeatable. Just when you thought I was going to shut up I pop back up... I forgot to mention that one night a family checked into one of the family cabins and they were out until after 10 pm and they were loud eventually I called Cathy at the number she provides for you to call if you need anything and within 5 minutes she had sent someone to take care of the issue. I'm not sure if any of the cabins are pet friendly but I know that the one we stayed in was not and that was really the biggest issue we had. I have a 4 pound Yorkie with separation anxiety and he's grown quite accustomed to going everywhere with me so we had to hire a pet sitter and I really missed my Lil guy! I wish they allowed pets of a certain size with a deposit. Other than that I can't wait until it's time to go back. We went in the last week of April for my birthday and the weather was perfect. Not too cold but you still definitely get that mountain experience and since it's the off season everything is very affordable. Remember to look for that coupon code online and to book through their direct website and the price is unreal.

I absolutely loved that there was a spot to do yoga or other movement classes! If you want to do a complete wellness day, you can take your mat to this beautiful open deck area (where your mat is shaded) and you have some mirrors. Once you finish your class, there's a sauna and cold plunge available to use to complete the perfect session! I didn't get to use the lodge much as I was visiting solo this time, but would love to use that nice big kitchen and the pool table next time This place is not super big, so everything is very walkable and in close proximity to each other! You can drive, walk, or even ride your bike to other restaurants and activities near by if you aren't too busy playing corn hole or lounging in the hammocks

Frank, the owner, is one of those rare people who is truly hands-on and genuinely cares about his guests. From the moment we arrived, he was communicative, kind, and incredibly attentive. You can tell this isn't just a business to him -- it's personal. What really stood out was his integrity. During our January stay, he went above and beyond to make sure our family was comfortable and taken care of, and he generously invited us back again in February. That level of hospitality and follow-through is something you just don't see often anymore. The space itself is peaceful, cozy, and perfect for a Big Bear getaway, but honestly, it's Frank's heart and character that make the place special. If you're looking for somewhere you can trust -- not just a place to sleep -- this is it. We'll definitely be back.
