This is an unattended lodge. There are literally no employees or protection officers on the property. There are combinations on the door. I went here with my mother and left . None of the cabins were rented and the parking lot was empty. it was a crime waiting to happen, especially for 2 women. Never was it disclosed that this property was like this. We went up the weekend after a big storm. Last snow was Wednesday, parking lot wasn't plowed before Saturday night 7pm. We had nowhere to park, others paid for parking elsewhere off site. The driveway was plowed very narrow as well and got a big scratch on the door of my full size vehicle from the tiny ice tunnel I had to drive thru. Room is in bad shape as well, lots of peeling. This is our first trip to Snow Bear Lodge. My wife, myself and our 2 kids rented a two bed unit. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The bathroom tiles are loose, damaged and the wood subfloor below the tiles is deteriorated from moisture. There is also what appears to be mold on the wall outside of the shower. The toilet is extremely loose at the floor which I'd be surprised if it wasn't leaking into the unit below. The sink is clogged and drains very slowly. The window screen is torn, bathroom exhaust fan sounds like it's tearing the roof off. I am property inspector for a living so I see this stuff all the time. Great place to stay if you're just looking for somewhere to sleep after a long day of boarding, for a good price. The bed is a bit uncomfortable. My partner and I woke up many times throughout the night due to lack of comfort. I recommend the addition of a mattress topper and maybe a mix of soft pillows and firm pillows to accommodate everyone's sleeping styles. The hot tub in the room was my selling point. Right after we messaged them that we checked in, the owner said " sorry guys you can't use jacuzzi because it leaks in down stair room" . The reason why we booked this place was to use jacuzzi. ( he should have described that we can't use in the first place) We asked for changing room or discount, but the owner doesn't even answer what we asked for. I've seen other bad reviews just like ours as well about this place. Bath room is full of molds, holes in sheets,Heater doesn't work. I'm a business owner and I clearly know this owner doesn't care about customers but money. He'll lie/trick you to pay. You should definitely purchase with credit card in case they treat you like us. We made a reservation for a room with a hot tub, they quoted $150. When we arrived, they couldn't find the reservation, and the hot tub room was no longer available, so they put us in a regular room without a hot tub but insisted on charging the original amount of $150. Their website lists these rooms as $120 for the time of year. They didn't care, still wanted the original amount. Other than that, an okay place. read more

Really sad to say this place isn't what it used to be. The first room we checked into (12) had a broken sink faucet handle couldn't turn on the hot water and leaky shower nozzle. The front desk person switched our room (15) which at first was great until the jacuzzi tub kept shutting off and turning itself on even though the timer just kept ticking. Was excited to share this hidden find with my husband since I had such a great stay last year, but this time it's just a huge disappointment. Paying way more than what it's worth ($174.97) because it's the weekend, and to find it's only one big amenity not working, the reason I came back, really sucks. The front desk gal offered to have someone take a look at the tub timer, but she said they probably couldn't fix it without the right parts and tools. We realized the drainage pipes in the building were rather old on our first night when it began to make a howling / "old running engine" sounds. At about 2 in the morning, one of the adjacent neighbors decided to take a shower for almost an hour. I would describe it as a symphony of Waterphones (the instrument used in scary movies to make those offputting sounds). After our first sleepless night, the lady and I decided to not spend another night at SBL and even ended up heading home early from our mini-vacation since it was July 4th weekend. We call both priceline and the lodge to cancel our second night the following day but despite our efforts to convey our amazing experience the first night, the only message we received was, 'no-refund policy'. Shoutout to the groundskeeper who helped us score a chair late night and for getting me the coffee maker. If it were not for him. the customer service here would have gotten a zero, for everything they 'did' do for us. read more

The Snow Bear Lodge is NOT a good low budget option. I am writing this review so other travelers do not have a bad hotel stay or chance not even having a door code to check in. We stayed on 07/03/24 for two nights. The Snow Bear Lodge does NOT staff their office. They will only respond by text message from a remote location. Upon arrival our door code (received via text message ) was wrong. We knocked on the office door, texted and called. After 45 minutes we reached someone and received a different room code. Upon entry the wall temperature read 93 degrees. No air conditioning available. We opened the windows hoping for some non existent air flow and the temperature inside just continued to climb. The shower head was broken and the water pressure felt like shards of glass on your back scratching you red. The musty hospital smell was unbearable. On a positive note the room was very clean, the wifi was fast, the tv adequate (only if you have streaming passwords), and the fridge was ice cold. Later that night the room was still too hot to sleep. We dragged table chairs (no porch chairs provided) out of the room to sit and cool off. We witnessed a steady stream of people knocking on the Snow Bear Lodge office door for assistance.....getting frustrated and then leaving. About 11pm a family of 5 requested our help. They had just booked a room an hour ago online and had no response to check in. We provided the hotel text message number and the family tried calling as well. No response for over two hours.....Eventually, the family packed up their young kids and had to find another hotel in the middle of the night. Our bed was firm and cheap but adequate. The next day we kept cold washcloths on our head and tried to suffer through and stay out of the room as much as possible. Last night's stranded family arrived to request their money back. The pool guy advised the office was never staffed and he could not offer help. Later that night we returned to the hotel about 11pm. Someone had pitched a family size tent to sleep in front of our room and party. More weary travelers arrived....knocked on the non existent office door..called the office number and left. We did not bother calling the non responsive Snow Bear Lodge operations for help. No sleep that night. On a side note there is a hotel ring camera on top of the office that points directly on the tent location. The Snow Bear Lodge is in a fantastic location and with minimal effort and care could be a very cool lodge option in Big Bear. However as it stands the hotel is teetering on half a star if that for a rating. read more

I wanted to give an update to my review. This was mine and my husband's go to spot when visiting big bear yearly. We loved this place because it was cozy, close to the village, customer service was stellar, and the rates were extremely reasonable. I'm talkin on a weekend it was $100ish.... I just called today to book our anniversary getaway shocked to find out that it is UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP AND THE PRICES HAVE SKY ROCKETED to $350+ for one night! Not to mention, by the looks of the pictures online, not much has been upgraded to make enough reason for the higher price rate. Ugh so disappointed especially since we loved the basic, cozy, quaint spot that it used to be when under the previous owners. Now Snow Bear Lodge will just be like all the other places in big bear, overpriced and overrated. read more

Not service animal friendly. Although he lied twice and eventually claimed we could take our service animals, with documentation, he yelled at us in front of other patrons for having our animals in a communal area and then blamed us for having "glass" in the pool areas when we did not in any way have glass. If he wasn't on a drunken rant, he fooled me. Do not stay here if you don't want to be micro-managed and harassed. They're selling the complex, so let's hope the next owners are not like him. Wow. We stayed at the Best Western last night and in no way did they make us feel this way. Made us feel so uncomfortable, we wanted to leave but didn't want to waste the $160 we paid. Being from Texas, we didn't have a clue of where to stay for an impromptu getaway. We ended up in Big Bear Village and saw this place. We drove through town and decided it was for us. Our room had a jacuzzi and a fireplace that made it very enchanting. Being married for 33 years, you normally don't find a gem like this. Reasonably priced. Clean rooms and a throwback to a different time. We hope to make it back someday in our travels read more

It is on the main street but the noise wasn't bad at all. cute place, been around for over 40 years so it is a bit dated but that doesn't bother me as long as the beds are clean and comfortable. every room had a mini fridge and microwave. they have a small pool which was heated. cute gardens all around the lot. very "homey" feel, they have a small area with tables and chairs and ping pong table and tether ball. I believe there are only 17 rooms but we got a two queen with spa tub for a great price. You are able to walk to the village and the lake was only minutes away. only stayed for a night but check in is at 1pm so that was great. the only down side was that the room doesn't have a/c but the cross breeze was great. thank you for the stay, we will be back. read more

My boyfriend and I had a reservation at motel 6 but we ended up canceling that reservation when we found this resort hotel. It is very clean, has a microwave and mini fridge and the lady at the front is super nice! Only 75 a night same price as motel 6 and knights inn! We have stayed at 4 different hotels here in big bear this is by far the best one... Oh and they are not listed on booking and Priceline. read more

I would give o stars if possible. When I arrived, back in November; the property was empty, no guests, no office, no one on site. . My reservation for an 'apartment' was nothing as advertised and at the end of their 'driveway'... the unit was clean but nothing like what I reserved, & on a busy road with no security. The property is run down to the point of abandonment. I requested a refund the same day which they, and booking.com honored...but it has taken 3 months to reverse the charges. The rooms, and units are worth $25-$100 a night. Don't be fooled. No management or staff on site either. read more

They ruined holiday vacation for me and my family. They require us to cancel booking two weeks in advance, yet they think they can do it just two hours before check in?! And what did they say? What a sweet, wonderful little place! We loved it there. We had been wanting to get a cabin for that cozy mountain feel (being busy OC people) and we are so glad we found this place. Totally worth the price and perfectly located on the main highway. When it was too busy to drive, we took a few minutes to walk to eat and check out the village. Our room was perfect. The fireplace and hot tub were wonderful and made the whole experience. We had a corner room upstairs with a little balcony and PLENTY of natural light came in. It truly was spirit lifting :) We have plenty of room to each get ready for our evening out, but also did great when having to buckle down and handle some work on the dining table in the room. The tv and quilted bed were perfect for snuggling up before bed. I normally prefer the coffee/tea/cocoa in the room but it actually gave a me good reason to get out of the room and say hi for a few minutes. That was nice :) We definitely plan to come back and suggest it to our friends and family :) don't ever change!! We don't need more fancy places, we need more cozy relaxing ones like this. I booked a simple one night stay with a booking app. Not 20 min later I found out my travel companion was exposed to COVID and could no longer safely stay. I reached out asking for at least a voucher for another night. This was met with cold refusal. So in an attempt to keep their guests and staff safe, I'm being told I can not even have a credit for another time. Absolute scam! I booked it 2 days before my trip on booking.com. The day before my trip, I called them yesterday and a lady answered and she was pretty nice. But on the day of the reservation, my family and I waited at the property for A WHOLE HOUR, calling them over and over and sending multiple messages on booking and nobody replied AT ALL. There was nobody at the property, it was an absolute ghost town. We had to go and walk in somewhere else just to have a place to stay. Then they had the gal TO CHARGE ME THE FULL DAMN AMOUNT!!! DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR RESERVATION CANCELED RIGHT BEFORE ARRIVAL! My cousin and I had a weekend trip snowboarding up at Snow Valley and had a reservation for the 28th of December, 1 bedroom 3 beds. After riding for the day, we decided to get our room to relax only to see an email sent the same day that our reservation has been canceled due to overbooking and that they gave our room away! They offered to look for more places for us or a king bedroom, since we had paid for a larger room with multiple beds we said to look around. Fast forward to about 2 hours on the phone with the lady at snow bear and a manager on booking! NO ROOMS! It's about 8 now and we had given up, the king they offered us was no longer available. Can't accommodate the guests with reservations but can get more people in!? The snow bear lodge lady said she would get us a free stay next time and they blamed it on plumbing. The booking.com manager said the closest available room was Redlands! IT TOOK US ALMOST 7 HOURS TO GET DOWN THE MOUNTAIN!! We arrived at about 3am, the hotel in Redlands was reimbursed by booking.com, but we still paid full price for the room we were supposed to stay at and when we called Snow bear again they said they couldn't offer any reimbursement for the room OR give us anything other than a 50% off our stay! We asked for a coupon code or email as proof if we decided to come back, she said she couldn't and that they'd make note of it but how do you trust that!? What makes them think I would trust them enough to go back and give them my money when they couldn't even confirm our reservation! The manager Eric was supposed to call me after getting no where with the front lady and we still have yet to receive any notice from either. What a cute lodge in Big Bear. It was my first time in Big Bear. I drove up to check out properties for clients of mine. I chose this place because of the Yelp reviews. They have 16 rooms. The rooms are basic, but clean and my room had a fireplace and jacuzzi. The owners were ever so pleasant and made my stay enjoyable. They suggested restaurants to visit and were right on each one suggested. I had a great stay...even the housekeeping stay greeted me and wanted to make sure I got everything I needed. read more

The price was extremely reasonable and the place was clean. It did have an older mini fridge and microwave and it is close to the shops in Big Bear. Other than that I unfortunately do not have many good things to say about this place. We walked into a smoky and stale smelling room. Each time we left, our windows were opened by someone and we felt anyone could have broken in. Also, because the windows were opened we believe that the smoke that the owners were creating was let in our room. We did not want our room serviced and therefore did not put our service sign out, yet the room was still serviced. The bathing towels, pillows, bathroom, shower, bed and rooms themselves are in need of upgrades. If you are simply looking for a cheap room to sleep in then this may be fine for you. I would ask for a room far enough away from the front desk if smoke bothers you. read more

I had booked a 2 night stay for me and my kids this weekend which unfortunately we had to miss due to me catching covid. I canceled through my app and was faced with a $311 cancelation charge. The app allowed me to request that be waived but did not ask for a reason so I called the hotel to explain that I could not have canceled before the 10 days they allow as I had just found out I was sick. I was met with a cold and firm "no, you could have given it to a friend, or came, you decided to cancel". I then asked if they would have preferred I show up with covid for everyone else to get and I quote "that's up to you lots of people still do that. It's your choice". Great I'll let everyone know you have zero safety protocols for your guests and are knowingly exposing them to covid while your front office is closed to protect only yourselves. Again I quote "well that up to you, you decided not to come". Just disgusting behavior in our current climate. Book at your own risk! read more

Total with tax was $97 on a weekend for a hot tub room with a fireplace -room is clean and functional, -Bed is fairly new and clean -1 block from town, plenty of parking and quiet -in room fridge & microwave -Hot tub actually works pretty well though it takes a while to fill Bad: -No extras, no shampoo, no hair dryer, no coffee, no tissue..nothing but 1 bar of soap. Forgot my hairdryer so I didn't get a shower that day. -Non smoking room (room 9)smelled like a combination of cigarettes and air freshener -Bed was clean but sheets where scratchy and uncomfortable and the pillows were so hard I tossed them on the floor and used a folded towel instead. -TV is really small, I think it was 13in, and at some point the remote stopped working right so we had to unplug it to turn it off. -no online booking Bottom line, had better but it was cheap, quite and very close to town. Found Snow Bear on Yelp and I was glad that we were able to find such an economical place to spend the night in Big Bear. Its centrally located and we were able to walk to the downtown area of Big Bear. The owner is super friendly and they even offer Military, Fire and Police discount. It's no JW Marriott or Ritz, but for the convenience and price of being able to stay in Big Bear, I highly recommend Snow Bear. It was our first time in Big Bear and got lucky by just driving by. Owner was very friendly and kindly honored military discount plus upgraded our room so we would not be awakened by a late checkin. The room was very clean and cozy with electric fireplace and jacuzzi. Shower was hot with good water pressure (very important ). There was a mini fridge, microwave and coffee in the morning - always a plus. Location was convenient to everything. We strolled into town to the shops and strolled around the lake. We bought some cocktails and relaxed in the jacuzzi. We had a very relaxing, comfortable stay. The racoon family was very cute and didn't bother us. Of course do not feed or pet them. Great little place in a great location. Super friendly owners, very helpful. They let us borrow a sled for no cost. Nice room for the price especially since there are 2 queen beds and 1 twin in the room (or jacuzzi instead of the twin bed for $10 more). Nicely taken care of. Very clean and organized. Rooms have a small fridge and a microwave. Stayed here for 3 nights and didn't have to drive anywhere. Liquor stores and gas station right across the street, BB Village one block away. Great place to stay in Big Bear with comfortable beds and a steady supply of hot water. Can't beat the rates at $50 for a room with 3 beds (2 queens and 1 twin) on a weeknight. Rooms with jacuzzis ran for $60, but we forgot our swim wear! Next time perhaps. :) The folks who run the place are very nice, and the rooms are well equipped with fireplaces as well as a quick working heating system. It's a simple place without too many frills, but they've got everything you need for a good night's rest. The rooms have a fridge and microwave, separate sink from the shower/bathroom, and free coffee in the check-in/out area for guests. read more
