They were ok. We rented with them a couple times. The problem we had this time around was their communication. They are not very responsive through email. We asked for very small requests such as asking the property owners if they had tubes, or sleds, and they told us we would ask. They never asked, or got back to us, so we got up there and they didn't have any. It's not a huge deal to us, but it would've been nice to have known. Our cabin accommodated our big family, but we noticed a few things: 1. It was a pretty old cabin. 2. Our master showers water pressure was really bad! I couldn't take a shower over the weekend. 3. My Fiance got electrocuted twice on my finger and hand switching the master bedroom light off and master bathroom light on! It made a huge popping sound and his finger and hand went numb. We brought all this to Big Bear Vacation but they just said they would have someone come out and take a look. That was all they could do for us. We won't be going through this agency again, unfortunately. It's definitely best to just go through a place like Airbnb so you can talk with the owners directly. read more

Nice and big for 12 people. Game room was awesome for the kids. Hot tub and barbecue grill very nice. However,.... Refrigerator was not clean inside, no trash bags or dish soap, only one kitchen towel and only one hand towel per bathroom. Be aware that noise from upstairs, especially showers, is extremely loud in the downstairs bedroom. It would be nice if the toilet paper was not so rough (cheap). read more

Living in Palm Springs, we needed a getaway from the summer heat. I was able to book Grandpa's Axe for the following night in just minutes. The rental office staff is friendly and helpful. The cabin was just perfect, with a potbelly fireplace and a hot tub on the deck. We chose to sleep in the downstairs room and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The place was nice and cool. Just what we needed! This cabin is very special and has so much love put into it. We are already planning our return in the fall! read more

We stayed at The Highland Chalet in Sugarloaf. It's a corner lot in a residential area about 17 minutes from The Village. We liked the location since we didn't want to be in the middle of all the chaos. We had to schedule this last minute so it was pricey but we expected that. But I think with some time and leg work we would have been able to find a nicer place for what we paid. What we liked: -new appliances and fairly new kitchen and nice plates/cups/silverware -as mentioned before, we liked the location but if you want to be close to the slopes or the village this isn't the right place for you -cleanliness, for the age of the cabin it was very clean -towels and bed linens seemed clean and I'm very picky with those things -decent tv and wifi, you just have to log into your own streaming accounts, which I prefer -comfortably sleeps 4, we were 2 adults and 2 teens and the cabin has a queen bed and a twin bed upstairs and a pullout in the livingroom (fyi no privacy since it is a loft style) Things that could be improved: -i know all these cabins are old but some of the repairs and paint is clearly done quickly and without concern for aesthetics. If you're ok with bad paint jobs and quick fixes then you'll be fine (but we everything worked so...) -no coat rack!! We are in Big Bear where you wear hats, jackets, scarves, etc. there was nowhere to hang your items. They have a "coat rack"' that fell off the wall as soon as we put one thing on it. It was decorative :( -not enough seating, there is one mini couch for lounging. The other seating consists of 2 bar stools and one accent chair. It never felt cozy for 4 of us since we were sitting in barstools -no coffee table!! Can't play board games unless you want to sit on the ground. We had to put everything on the kitchen island but then we didn't have room to eat -Biggest complaint: the heater is noisy!! My daughter couldn't sleep because she was downstairs and it makes loud noises. I heard them upstairs too. Overall this is an ok cabin if you're in a pinch. So much room for improvement. Important note: you have to check in at their offices which are in town about 17 minutes away. After driving up the mountain it's kind of annoying to have to do this, especially if there's traffic. I'm curious what other rentals look like. Wish more people would write reviews for this company. read more

Super shady business. They do not care about their guests and didn't appreciate our business whatsoever. They are super inconsistent and rude and have no idea what they're doing. I fell scammed. So awful. First a 2 hour delay upon check in and no communication. We had to drive to the office just to be treated with disrespect. Rental was disgusting and dirty and they said the delay was due to housekeeping? We left it cleaner than when we got there. We had to waist time cleaning just to feel comfortable. All our plans ruined because we got stuck there after they told us they would plow the driveway and they did not. Had to pay $300 to get my car out. Every time we called they said they would help us and even stated we would be compensated and when we checkout all they did not honor it. I went last week booked a house in Fawnskin. Booking process straight forward. Unfortunately when we arrived at the house there was garbage left in the house. The Door to the upstairs bathroom fell off a sliding door. The master slider blinds fell off and were dirty beyond@... we were excited to sit on the deck and grill and enjoy the beauty. We booked through vrbo but the listing was made by big bear vacations. The check in process was easy, however the staff member who checked me in wasn't as pleasant as the other people were. He was very awkward, quiet and refused to hand me back my cards and parking pass, instead leaving them on his side of the large counter. We stayed in a main escape and it was exactly as described. All amenities worked and it had others that it was explicitly stated it wouldn't such as salt, pepper, bathroom soap. I reduce one star because of the rude staff member and because our place wasn't super clean. It looked like the stairs and upper floor needs to be vacuumed and there were crumbs and a spoon in the garbage disposal. Will update my review if this company tried to charge me for the chewed up spoon that we didn't damage. read more

Very unprofessional office. I do not recommend you working with this company. There are plenty of companies out there that Have beautiful cabins with great customer service. My husband and I go up to big bear regularly. We had the unfortunate experience of dealing with these people three times. We kept giving them another chance. But after this last time, Never again. You'll have to leave at least five phone calls before you get your response. If they give you phone number to text, you'll be dealing with the same situation. If you leave anything in the cabin and you called within minutes, consider your gone. They will make zero effort to try to help you retrieve it. No social skills. They make you feel like a burden. This review is about Big Bear Vacations only and not the actual property we stayed at. They were terrible and if I were the owner of this property, I would be embarrassed by the condition of the house. * One of my kids said, "I bet this place was really nice 10 years ago," and that kind of sums up how the interior of the house is. Everything is old and outdated. The walls are all in need of new paint (think years of grimy hands touching them), the furniture has seen better days and there were multiple broken appliances. There were also multiple signs around the house with conflicting information- maximum occupancy 10, or 9 or 7. It's clear no one has gone through this house to ensure that it is habitable in a very long time. * In the kitchen, the built in microwave did not work, but there was a smaller plug in version on the counter. The dishwasher and stove were really old and the fridge did not get cold for the entire time that we were there. The kitchen, like the rest of the house could use a DEEP cleaning. I am attaching a photo of the stove and broken microwave showing the grease caked onto the side of the non-working refrigerator. * The refrigerator is my biggest issue. We realized late on the night of arrival that our fridge was not cooling. I texted to the number that BBV had provided. The next morning, I called at 8am to let them know that the fridge wasn't working and they responded that they would send someone out. Two and a half hours later, I received a text asking what the problem with the refrigerator was? Whomever was texting had no idea that I had already called it in. Their repairman arrived, "reset" the fridge. We waited and the fridge never got cold. We called at around 3:00pm to let them know that the fridge was not cold. Despite follow up texts, they never responded. Therefore, we did not have a working fridge for the 4 days and 3 nights we were there. * There were no trash bags in the kitchen and there was only 1 dishwasher tablet. We let BBV know and they promised that someone would come by to drop off trash bags and detergent. They lied, no one ever delivered trash bags or detergent. * The listing on Airbnb and on their own website stated that there was a washer and dryer. I contacted BBV to confirm that the washer and dryer were working and was told that there was not a washer and dryer in the house. When I pointed this out to them, their response was that the description was wrong. When we arrived, lo and behold, there was a washer and dryer, but the label said not to use it. * There is enough parking for 3 cars, however the driveway is tricky. It is steep and required a bit of maneuvering. My SUV was able to make it up, but my niece's sedan couldn't get enough traction. * The listing photo is a bit deceptive. It appears that the house is isolated, however, it is actually right next to another house and they share the same driveway. Not a big deal, neighbors were quiet, but their cars parked in their driveway made maneuvering to get into our spot a bit trickier. BBV did wind up refunding me $200 for "inconveniences" and apologizing which I appreciate. However, it doesn't make up for not having a working fridge or washing machine and having my calls/messages ignored. read more

This company is great. I would 100% recommend booking with them. The main office was very nice and the check in process was super easy, Louie and Sophie were super friendly and helpful. When we got to our cabin, accessing the lockbox and getting inside was very easy and the cabin is nice and clean and adorable. It was just like the pictures. We used the hot tub after we got back from dinner and it was amazing... they have it hot and ready to go and you can tell it is regularly cleaned. Also, random side note, but they gave us a free little container of spices as a gift when we checked in... (see photo) As someone who cooks, I just loved this! Address of the rented place : 38799 Waterview Dr Big Bear Lake, CA 92315 Reservation #234100 Arrived at the cabin in Big Bear City at 4 pm. The house was dirty, so we called for cleaning, but even after a few hours, it wasn't entirely clean. Linens and pillows were dirty, so we had to wash them ourselves. Shortly after, there was a huge leak, flooding the basement. Asked for help, and a guy said it's unsafe, so we needed to move. Despite kids sleeping, we agreed to choose a new place the next morning. Showed us three places, none up to our standards, no lake view.( we paid for one if the most expensive Cabins ) We settled for one, but the parking needed shoveling, and they told us to do it ourselves. Review of the Chalet - 639 Pro of the Chalet: Close to bear mountain and the heater worked albeit not distributing throughout the floors well. Cons: This place needs a major facelift and update. The driveway is very steep and difficult to go up. You must approach from the mountain and turn left to make it easier and to prevent scraping your car. Also the driveway does not fit three cars without blocking in the neighbors car. The living room, kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms need repair and proper cleaning. The couches in the living room had major stains and were falling apart. The kitchen cabinets were dirty and need to be repainted. The pots and pans were dirty/scraped up and not useable. Dust and other items were seen under the beds that should have been cleaned. Curtain holders and chairs were falling apart. I could go on and on about many other things in the house that are in need of improvement. I hope Big Bear Vacations does a closer look of this property to fix the variety of issues. read more

Management Company: We had an issue with our car and needing to get towed. I did have to pay an extra night to use the driveway but the second day they accommodated us for free. Every single staff was understanding, polite and helpful. I am very appreciative of all their help. Maple Ridge Home: The home was very clean, new and roomy. It had almost everything we needed from a rental home. Lots of TV streaming subscriptions available. I do wish they had more than one shovel, there should be an ice scraper for the windshields too. The home thermostat was the new Nest ones which was hard to use and kept resetting the room to 61 degrees including at 10pm so we would get cold and have to constantly put the thermostat up again. Last thing is, the home had plug in candles that were just a bit much and overpowering. My kids have asthma and it triggered their coughs and allergies the first day. read more

My mom has text receipts of them saying we could check in early for an extra fee so she responded and called to check in early and there was no response so we just decided to check in at the original given time 4pm and still had to check in at 6:30pm because they never once communicated that they were running behind and avoided all calls. Also they gave the cleaners only 13 towels and my mom has an email specifically saying 16ppl. All the tv remotes had no batteries. And most of the tv remotes were missing. As well whenever the cleaners come you're typically to have someone come after them to check everything is in order and neat. Just super unprofessional. This company absolutely sucks. read more

I had an AMAZING experience with Big Bear Vacations ! I booked 3 weeks in advance and finally the day arrived, I arrived at 3:30 and I thought I would have to wait long (based on the reviews) but was given the key code and was on my way. Also, there was no lengthy paperwork just a piece of paper stating the rules and if something happens to the property you are responsible and how to discard of your trash. Fair. I stayed at the knotty bear cabin and it was absolutely breath taking. Like I mentioned before, based on the reviews I thought I was going to arrive to a dirty house with no amenities but it was the total opposite! The house was squeaky clean, stocked with pots and pans, dish soap, towels, brooms, dustpans hand soap, vaccum, etc. We still no brought our own pots and pans, dish soap, towels, and trash bags etc. The cabin/house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. ( bit of advice to those complaining: make sure you have trash bags, toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, yes we were given toilet paper and trash bags it's better to bring a good amount of your own just in case) The living room had a fire place and a plasma tv with a huge couch and wooden floor. The kitchen was spacious and it had a round dining table. The master bedroom was beautiful! High ceilings and spacious as well as a foosball table. The other room was spacious as well. The upstairs was a kids room with 2 bunk beds queen size mattresses. There was also a wash room equiped with a washer and dryer and board games. The backyard had a jacuzzi, grills, and a huge patio table. Wifi and cable, along with a tv in every room as well as the living room. The decor of the house was amazing! It felt very welcoming and warm. My family and I along with our 2 dogs, stayed 3 days and we all enjoyed our stay. I loved the customer service as well, I had a question and they were VERY helpful. Overall, the cabin was SPOTLESS when we arrived (and when we left). Everything worked. The customer service was outstanding. We were very happy with our stay. I will definitely book through big bear vacations again, I just had a great experience! We felt so relaxed coming back home and extremely satisfied with our vacation. ***THIS COMPANY WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO POST REVIEW ON THEIR WEBSITE***After looking through pictures of 2193 Soaring Pines with my family we decided to book it. Our trip was a few weeks ago and we were more than disappointed. When we arrived at the home we contacted them to see if early check in would be available as no one was at the home. They refused so we waited. When we first walked in the home it smelled like fish. We had to leave all the doors open to air it out for hours and even that didn't help. After unloading the cars 3 men showed up to "clean" the house, with no warning from the company and with children in the house we turned them away. We didn't want random men in the house when it was supposed to be cleaned and ready to go by check in time. A couple hours later we opened the pull out couch and found a tiny baggy of drugs. When I contacted Big Bear Vacations someone called me, sounding very intoxicated, and simply offered for someone to come and pick up the baggy of drugs. I received a call from the Director of Housekeeping apologizing and asking me what she can do and she offered to pay to take the kids out to do something fun. We declined as we already had plans for the night. She didn't contact me the rest of our stay to check up on us or try to rectify the situation. The following are things that we encountered as a group during our stay: -spoon left on the deck that looked like it could have been used for drugs -several drawers in the kitchen are broken and fall out as soon as you open them -carpet and rugs looked very dirty -baseboards covered in dust in the bathrooms -mold in showers -trash can in spare bedroom full of someone else's trash -trash can in bathroom full of someone else's trash and a water bottle on ground -faucet in master shower was broken -dust flying out of shower vent -dirty diaper that didn't belong to us under the couch -sconces over stove covered in grease and caked in dead gnats -packet of cigarette butts in fountain in the backyard where the kids played -cigarette butts on top deck -coke can in yard -dried blood on mattress in master bedroom -railing in the loft was very wobbly -bunk in one of the spare bedrooms was unstable and wobbly -grout in the tile was disgustingly brown -blinds in one of the spare bedrooms had a broken slat -wood post in yard was knocked over and nails were sticking out of it. At the end of our stay I contacted the Director of Housekeeping with our concerns and requested compensation for all of these issues and the house not being ready to stay in and she agreed that compensation was appropriate and would contact me after speaking with her boss. In the past few weeks my husband, my sister in law, and I have all gone back and forth with the Director of Housekeeping where she has lied and said she called me when she didn't, lied and told my husband that during our initial call she offered for us to stay in a different house (which would have cost us most of our first evening) and did not, has justified the fact that the house was not clean by saying they sent a cleaning crew after check in to clean the house, etc. The final straw was when they offered my husband a maximum of a $500 refund with the understanding that we don't post any bad reviews. No one learns if we don't post so we declined the $500 and here I am posting this review in hopes that they truly learn from this experience and if they haven't learned to save you from the headache. read more

I had 9 separate cabins rented from June 15th to 21st for a family reunion vacation. We have been renting in Big Bear for over 50 years and this was our 2nd stay at Shore Acres Lodge. Our next trip will likely require 10 to 14 cabins. We love the rustic casual aspect of Shore Acres for our quickly expanding extended family. If a place is too nice, we worry about all the children running around. That being said, there are some clear maintenance issues that need to be addressed. There were issues with the plumbing. Shower heads that were split and sprayed out the side. Or the rain shower heads that are designed for higher water pressure, so they weren't very efficient. My personal cabin, 110 Lakefront needs new faucet canisters in the shower. It was nearly impossible to get a reasonable temperature. You had to tap the cold faucet in order to change the temp one way or another. It was too sensitive to turn. Many of the windows in various units didn't open at all or wouldn't stay open. Or the screens were damaged, allowing insects to fly in. This made it difficult to cool off the cabins in the evenings. 109 lakeside had a mini split A/C that didn't even work. The coffee maker in our unit 110 lakfront had not been cleaned and was full of old coffee. The new ceiling fans with lights have a setting that turns the lights on and off randomly. It's called an away setting for security purposes. The problem though is the remote isn't clear on how this is turned off and on. So, the lights were constantly turning on and off randomly forcing us to just not use the fan and light. The grassy area in front of 110 lakefront is the area where we like to all put out our chairs to relax together and look out at the lake while the kids play. This area has some deep ruts and trenches from vehicles driving through in the mud. It's since hardened causing a dangerous tripping hazard for everyone, especially the elderly. It needs to be tilled up and leveled or filled in with dirt. Some of these issues were addressed by maintenance, and some we just dealt with as we wanted to relax and not be inconvenient with maintenance. We also had a few nights where the swimming pool, and community barbeque area were taken over by employees and their families. I appreciate a company that values their employees. Though we were a large paying group and shouldn't be competing for space with the employees. For the most part our group is pretty chill, and we would have just accepted it for what it was. Though how the trip finished is really what has left a sour taste and moved me to leave this review. The power went out about 9pm the night before we checked out. The reason is totally understandable and acceptable. But the fact that Big Bear Vacation Rentals was aware of this before it happened and did not notify us so we could be prepared is not acceptable. Just having the chance to charge our phones before it went out. We had 36 people there with a lot of small children that were scared. And we had to pack up and get out that next morning without any power. I was asking about a later checkout with no responses. In fact, the responses I was getting were not even relevant to the questions I was asking. I have saved the whole text thread. Lastly, we had some family members who had forgotten items in three different cabins. This is ultimately their fault. Though it was very difficult to get through to anyone to report it. When I did get through, I was assured that items are always turned in by housekeeping and we would be notified. But days went by with no response. I had to keep asking about it. Ultimately I was just informed that nothing was found. I can see where one lost item didn't turn up, but 4 items just vanished? Where did they go? Ultimately, we love this location for our large family trips. But I'm stuck in the middle of upset family members who are now pressing me to find a different location. I'm hoping they calm down by the time I start to book again as I do love it there. I will say that the gentleman on location there during our stay was very friendly and helpful, though I can't recall his name. This Review was posted directly to Big Bear vacations, which responded in a very generic way. Were now approaching 3 weeks away and nobody has responded further. This week, we wanted to get out of the Las Vegas area and take our fur baby out to Big Bear lake for a few days of rest and relaxation. Thou a little last minute, Big Bear vacations had a wide selection of properties to choose from. We ended up with a nice size cabin that was right on the lake, had a full kitchen, 3 bedrooms and 3 baths, laundry and epic views of both the sunrise and sunset. The staff at check in were extremely friendly and helpful for places to explore and eat. The only reason why not a 5 stars is that, thou the cabin was amazing, there are some issues that have seemed to be there for a while that needed fixing. These things did not stop us from enjoying the property, but you can tell these items have been a problem for a while. I would recommend using Big Bear vacations if looking for a cabin to rent if you have plans to visit the area. read more
