Me and my friends went to Big Bear for a girls getaway and we had an amazing time! The customer service is fantastic! We stayed at the Lake Shore Cabin. It was stocked with mostly everything we needed. We did forget to buy paper napkins but other than that it comes with the bare essentials. Even had a plug in heater and fan available. Pros: Excellent customer service Cabin stocked with supplies Clean Amazing view! Close to town They give you a spice sampler when you check in at the front desk, which was very convenient considering we forgot salt. Cons: We had our original cabin cancelled and had to swap for this one. The front door had cardboard replacing windows. The guest room bed was EXTREMELY squeaky. Other than that check out was easy and they were offering complimentary stay promotion until 1pm for exchange of a review. I would definitely book from them again. read more

Apparently asking for check in early is difficult, I have a 10 month old and an 85 year old. I got to big bear early to beat the weather. I call three days ago to request an early check in, I was informed I needed to call the day of check in. I call the day of check in and was told I needed to wait until 4:00pm. I arrived at the office at 11:45am to check in and was told by a nice receptionist that she would call and see if house keeping could clean earlier. 1:30, I called to ask an update and I was told again I needed to wait until 4:00pm. Some people who work there are nice and willing to take the extra step to help. And some employees don't understand the concept of customer service. They just repeat the same thing. I would think twice with using them, Airbnb would have been a better choice. Oh the best let of ally it's December 24th!!! You think they would help What confuses me is check in is at 4:00 pm but check out is at 10:00am. Your telling me it take 6 hours to clean a room? Update: I found the property address through Zillow, I got to the property at 3:00 pm with nobody here. 3:35pm Teo people show up to clean. Really?!!?! I've been asking for 3 days! read more

The cabin we stayed is was FILTHY. Rat feces everywhere. The bed was literally nothing but springs. You check in after 4 and out by 10. This is not a vacation rental but a disgusting money pit. 250/night for nothing short of a hope in the wall. The furniture in the living room was PATIO FURNITURE. When we complained they just ignored us. And to top it off, the fire extinguisher was last checked in 1990!!!!! Big bear itself was awesome. I'll check into a different hotel next time. I will never wastE my money with big bear vacations ever again. UPDATE; After speaking with the marketing manager they took 50% off the cleaning fee, and offered 20% off an additional stay. I am not at all pleased with our stay in your cabin. On arrival the hot tub was not turned on and the water was cold. I had to figure out where the breaker was to turn it on and had to add about 8" of water to cover the jets. So for Friday night we could not use the hot tub, which was one of the parameters we used in our search. Also the water was very murky. There clearly wasn't any maintenance happening. Also, there was dog hair on the comforter on one of the beds. That tells me the cleaning is suspect. I spoke to the office on Saturday morning and was given a $50 credit for no hot tub and she called the company that services it to come and fix the poor water quality. He came early afternoon, then told us not to use it for 2 hours. We didn't use it until 9 pm. We weren't in it more than 5 minutes when our skin began reacting to the water. Red patches and burning itch, Absolutely terrible. I have rented from you before without issue but this was pretty bad. Honestly ruined what was to be a nice 2 day break from the city. Our stay could have definitely been worse as I see from the other bad reviews I see here, but I believe Big Bear Vacations definitely has a bad pattern. Our check-in process went very smoothly at the BBV office, the workers there were very pleasant and helpful. We stayed in Owl Pine Lodge which was a great unit upon first walking in. Very spacious with plenty of amenities. We checked everything in the unit when we first arrived, as they instructed us to do, and called them with any issues we discovered. I called after we arrived and left a message reporting two ceiling fans that did not have functioning lights and a TV that we couldn't get a cable signal from. They called me back later that night and left a voicemail. I called the next morning and actually spoke to an individual who seemed very helpful. I repeated the issues and added that we found a towel that was folded up nicely was actually smudged and dirty and also that there was a large patch of dust and webs on the bedroom wall. Though these things were not *that* bad on the surface, combined with the other issues, it made us feel super gross and expressed to the gentleman in the office that we were very disappointed and had no confidence in the cleanliness of the unit. He apologized and let us know he would send someone over and assured us that we didn't need to be home for someone to fix the issues so we left for the day and when we returned that night, it was obvious no one had been there and all the issues remained. We called back and again were met by a machine so I left another message, only to have them call back the morning we checked out. I didn't even bother calling them back because what's the point?? Honestly, I could have lived with things if the front office was more helpful but no one showed up and we just felt so gross and uncomfortable in that unit. It's a shame because the place is pretty cool, roomy and very close to a bar, our favorite bakery and a market. Also I should probably add that this particular unit of Owl Pine Lodge (Unit 1) had a super obnoxious and loud high-pitched noise coming from the bathroom several times in the middle of the night and early morning. I feel like it may have been coming from the pipes? I am a light sleeper so this definitely woke me up. I can say confidently that I won't be booking through BBV again as it seems they have a pattern of negligence. read more

The property was covered with spiders, spiders webs were around the ceiling and the bed; the bedsheets were dirty; the whole cabin smells... Swimming pool and jacuzzi were out of work and had construction people around all day with blasting music; The heater kept having noises throughout the night sounded like thunder or bomb My trip was ruined and could not even sleep at night due to the heater kept having noises. We've booked twice with Big Bear Vacations without any issue. Our most recent stay in Knotty & Nice was again a positive experience. Our cabin was clean and well tended with the exception of the carpet. It could use a good cleaning as there were some pretty heavy stains and the beds could use an updating (both upstairs mattresses were uncomfortable) but overall this was a nice rental and we'll keep it on our "return to" list. The check in process was easy and the staff friendly. I would however say with all the new technology having to physically go to the office to check in is cumbersome. Most rentals we do with other companies are handled through our cell phones and email. I was happy that this last rental did not require us to return to the office for the check out process. We were able to use the lockbox and message the company upon our departure. Having said that, my only true complaint is that check out time is 10am. That is extremely early and forces you to set an alarm on your day of departure to make sure your entire party can get ready, clean the cabin and still be out on time. No one wants to be rushed like that on your last day! read more

Check in was great, friendly helpful staff and to be honest I probably wouldn't be writing a review were it not for a ridiculous $25 additional charge that just hit my card. House was very nice and cozy, with the exemption of the slightly yellow/green spa water which was a big shame. Kind of a novelty for a visit to big bear and be able to chill in the spa surrounded by snow, yet we couldn't. One of the dining chairs was broken and unusuable. Not the end of the world but it was pushed in to the table to look as though it was ok. Part of our agreement was to clean the house of trash. We took 3 trash bags with us when we left. We left the entire house spotless with the exception of making the beds. All dishes washed and put away, yet we just got charged $25 for left trash!! I checked with my family and there's a chance someone left a something small in a bathroom trash can because I forgot to check one bathroom. I find this totally ridiculous to then get charged $25 for this having left the cleaners noting but a quick clean up! very disappointed, but i'll know for next time when I don't use them. read more

The office staff is great. The service and prices are great. The cabin we rented is a little less than desirable so this review is about the company not the cabin. The cabin was listed on a few different rental sites but their website gave the lowest price as well as offered promos for free bike or kayak rental so an extra plus. Check in was quick and simple on the day before July 4th. I was worried about having to go into Big Bear when the rental was on the other side of the lake but luckily the holiday traffic was light so it didn't take too long. They were very efficient at check in and gave free spices as a welcome gift. Nice touch. The staff that I spoke to on the phone was very nice and helpful before and during reservations. I called before because the promo wasn't working then again after reservations because I didn't get the confirmation email (probably my email issue). Now the cabin we rented was extremely dusty and a lot of things were broken, no Wi-Fi, broken toilets, etc. I won't hold that against the company since I don't know if they are aware of all the issues at this particular place. But I'll be letting them know so they have a chance to get them fixed (or have the owners fix them). I did report a carbon monoxide alarm because it was chirping very loudly. Maintenance came quickly and replaced it. I didn't notice the broken toilets or Wi-Fi until later that night so didn't bother to report them that day. read more

The house we rented over the 4th of July holiday weekend was gorgeous, well taken care of and very warm.. when I checked in at the office they gave me a courtesy seasonings jar that was so cute it had @ 8 seasonings that you will need to prepare your daily meals. The house was cleaned very well except for a few webs. The fireplace had wood, the grill had propane, the bathrooms had tissue, towels and hand soap, the kitchen had coffee filters, dishes,trash bags, pots and pans, bakeware, utensils and dish soap. We stayed at 1759 Eagle Cove and it wasn't pleasant at all!!!The house is falling apart of dirtiness! There's dust everywhere! The kitchen is full of grease and the countertops have never seen a clean mop for sure! When we arrived you hadn't even cleaned it!!! I don't know when was the last time that the carpet was vacuumed and there is pet fur all over the place and let's not forget about the urine stains and the horrible smell downstairs at the game room and at the pooltable. None of us could sleep because the heating makes so much noise!!! The front door is hard to open or close. And the front yard is disgusting, it's full of dog poop and my kids couldn't even steep outside and play! The pictures I saw at your site had anything to do with the real condition of the house! It's really deceiving and almost a scam. I feel deceived because there's no way that house costs in anyway what we pay for our stay. I rented that house because it was "not pets allowed" because all of us have serious allergies and you changed the status without even send us a note... I just want to tell you that we had a really bad time with you in every way possible!!! You have no staff at the check in! They were rude, unqualified, slow and made the check in process, for all of us really slow and hard! They never even gave me my kids fur bears! I don't know where to start. So I reserved a cabin for 2 days for a party of 14. When we got to the front desk we were told our rental was no longer available due to maintenance issues and a bad water boiler. So after waiting almost 3 hrs in the parking lot they were finally able to relocate us into a different cabin. Cabin was nice but then I received a call from management that we had to pack our bags and leave to a different location. After arguing, thankfully I was able to stay the night in that cabin that night. The very next morning I was given a complimentary stay in another cabin. This is when I decided to post a review and provide pictures to show that this company is running a scam and lying to tenants that they provide the best cabins. The rain was leaking through the whole front wall of the cabin and was all over the floor that my kids slipped and hurt themselves. Also , the heater didn't work so we we're all freezing to death. I don't think Big Bear Vacations and the owners of the cabins keep their properties up to code. Otherwise they would be out of business and facing lawsuits. As I'm writing this review I'm sitting on a couch and I can feel the rain dripping on my head. But the worse was that my daughters were hurt. This review is just the beginning. Embarrassed , that I put my family through this on Xmas. I don't blame the staff but I do believe that the owner of this company is running a scam by renting homes that are out of code and are unsafe to visitors. I own a business myself and I would be first to step up to the plate and take full responsibility if I felt that my company has caused any damages to my customers. We booked this cabin 7 months in advance. A large group of us had to take off work and it was a miserable stay. Never again will we trust big bear vacations. Here is a list of just a few of our issues with 1649 Log Home "Masterpiece" We walk in and the fire alarm is beeping with low batteries. The thermostat had low battery and the heater wouldnt turn on. It was 40 degrees inside No batteries in the remotes Closet downstairs had a hole in the wall with exposed wires hanging down. Closet wouldnt lock either and we had 2 toddlers running around 60 percent of lights weren't working or light bulbs were just missing Missing furniture. There were11 of us with only a loveseat in the living room (the other loveseat we found in the garage and it was completely trashed) The toilets were dirty with urine all over seats Hair all over the bathroom floors We had to wipe down all the counters and floors because they were filthy The carpet was not vacuumed No pots or pans Giant mold stain in the bathroom ceiling Pool table was torn. Pool sticks were all broken This place honestly looked like a trashed mansion. It was very evident that it had not been cleaned or taken care of in a VERY long time. read more

We could not park our cars because there was heavy snow and ended up shoveling snow for an hour till 1am. We had to clean our own bathrooms because they were filthy.On top of this the the manager could not help us and his attitude was that guests are out of luck. Other guests had similar experiences. We stayed at 2230 - Blue Bear lodge over Presidents Day weekend. We had a hard time finding a decent looking place to accommodate our party size of 21 guest. After finding this place I called to make sure the pictures were exactly what's seen online & was assured it looks the same newly remodeled (5 units). The cabins did not come fully stocked with all the amenities as advertised. Cabins were missing dishes, linens, back door broken, no curtains/shades on the doors with glass. We called for towels which were never delivered, luckily some people brought towels from home. Maintenance came on day 1 to fix the broken back door & had a very rude & nasty attitude. Floors weren't clean & were gross. All units didn't have both mops & brooms. Someone should do a walk through of each unit after they're cleaned especially since tip envelopes are left behind. This property is up for sale, which could be the reason its now unkept. However, the check in & check out process were very smooth. read more

Update - we were refunded for one night of our stay. Not sure we will stay again but that does help a bit since we left a day early. Original Review: We wanted a simple set up and rented LAKEVIEW LODGE #983 C for 2 nights. The customer service over the phone and in the office, as well as the web-site, did not prepare us for the dingy smoke filled rooms we received. The beds were so uncomfortable that we left a day early. What was wrong? -filthy carpets/bedspreads and towels -someone made a fire without opening the flute (we assume) and the entire cabin was filled with fumes. Took us 3 hours to air it out enough for one night. -Kitchen table was bar style (tall) with only 3 tall chairs, there are four of us in our family. -Badly placed toaster oven next to sink was a hazard -broken refrigerator -nothing to use to toast or cook things in toaster oven -spotty central heater system that shut down in the middle of the night -space heaters provided but we have 2 young kids so nope. Plus the fire alarm appeared to be ripped off the wall?!? We won't be staying there again and hope you do more research than we did before booking. My family and I came up to big bear from New Mexico, drive literally 50 million hours only for us to come and wait for 10 more years! We kept on calling and checking if we can check in, but the reps kept saying that it's only at 4 o'clock! Okay cool, so my family and I just went to see what big bear had and it was cool and all, but we were tired, hungry and irritated so we needed someplace to relax before we could continue on with our plans! Once 4 o clock roles around, we go and try to check in they tell us our room isn't ready! Like what??? We were told to step aside so a manager can come and speak with us, but we kept waiting and waiting for almost and hour and a half and no one had came by! Let me start off by saying, we are a family of 5, (3 school aged kids and a dog makes 6). We love hiking and lived in Colorado for a time, so we know mountains. We've stayed in Big Bear before, and can honestly say we now prefer the north side of the lake. Fawnskin is more spaced out and private. The town itself is tiny, but there is a convenience store. You're not on top of the neighbors, it's quieter, less traffic, and feels more like the mountains. The pictures of the view from the porch speak for themselves, every time we looked out the big windows that covered the entire side of the cabin, we were mesmerized by the lake view. The big wrap-around porch was perfect for coffee in the mornings. This cabin had a ton of little unexpected treats, from the spacious parking, to the décor and amenities. The great room with the views has a table, fireplace and big couch that all of us fit on for our nightly shows on the big screen, and the cabin has wifi. The round table with the built-in bench was our favorite place to enjoy meals, play games and plan our days. I actually liked that the kitchen was separate, the stove worked well for cooking up eggs, and we grilled our dinners off the back patio. Having a full laundry room was amazing. Oh yes, there is a hot tub! So nice to jump into after a long day of hiking once the sun was setting and the air was cool. Also good for star and moon gazing. The sleeping spaces were awesome. The main level bedroom has an enormous soft bed, like floating on a cloud, with really nice blankets and pillows, a wonderful ceiling fan/light and some cool side table lamps. There is also a small room on the main level with 2 bunkbeds and a dresser. The bathrooms work! Can't say that about some cabins so need to mention it. The shower and toilets work just fine and were clean, with plenty of towels and toilet paper provided, and even soap and little shampoo and conditioners. Back to the kitchen to mention it was also well stocked with dishes, glassware, silverware, pots and pans and cooking utensils. There was even some salt, pepper, oil and spices above the stove. The microwave and dishwasher work and served us well. I recommend hitting the Vons or Stater Bros as early as possible to avoid the crowds, and the cabin's fridge/freezer was cold and spacious. We packed coffee grounds and filters, but found no coffee maker and instead a new Keurig machine, so we got some pods and enjoyed that immensely. The downstairs level of this cabin was kid heaven. The bed is a memory foam, super comfy. And how awesome to have an original Pacman arcade! Dad actually still had his skills from back in the day and wowed the kids with his Pacman abilities, it was great to hear them cheering him on. It was even greater to have the kids downstairs being their loud, silly selves while we enjoyed barely hearing it upstairs, the separation of space was glorious. As I mentioned in the beginning we are a hiking family, and this cabin is located between two of the best hiking trails in the area, Grays Peak and Cougar Crest. Highly recommend both and to start as early in the morning as possible to beat the heat, and pack a backpack as full as possible with water. The dog really loved the hikes, and the kids got into the groove and before long were leading the pack and singing together, finding cool rocks to build cairns with, and not on their screens for hours without complaint!! A true parents dream! Even back at the cabin there was so much to explore, they had little interest in their devices, which we absolutely loved. Last thing I'll mention, the hosts were absolutely lovely, gracious and attentive, so generous and good natured. I was honestly blown away by their hospitality and care. So, it's an understatement when I say I highly recommend Jack Frost cabin! 10 stars!!! read more

I had a terrible time with "Big Bear Vacations". When we first arrived to our booked property, we inspected the property only to find that the spa was not functioning. I don't understand how these things are not inspected beforehand. Maintenance came by quickly and was very helpful and kind but they were unfortunately not able to fix the issue. We then asked to be accommodated at another property with a spa, the customer service person was fortunately very helpful and understanding and helped us book another property. She said that the property was clean and ready for a stay. We went to the new property exhausted from the ordeal at the first property and decided to rest a bit. When it was time to go to sleep, we went to inspect the beds and they were full of debris, hair, and bugs. We were so appalled and disgusted that the bed had been made and covered in an attempt to look like it was actually cleaned. We inspected all 4 beds and found that they all had hair and debris on them. We called the company and got another helpful customer service person but they said that it was too late to bring linens in. We asked for a later checkout as we had to wash the linens and blankets ourselves. They were willing to accommodate us by giving us two more hours which I am grateful for but washing and drying all of the linens and blankets took about three hours and we ended up losing a lot of sleep. We also found dog food that had not been cleaned up in one of the bathrooms. We barely slept at all and had a horrible experience with "Big Bear Vacations". Overall, the customer service representatives (Kemone and Mary) and maintenance people were very kind and understanding but the properties and sanitation are lacking severely. For this reason, we will never book with Big Bear Vacations again and we will encourage others to also not book with them. It's not worth risking transmissible diseases, pests, or unknown skin conditions being contracted. Attached are photos of the conditions in which the beds were found. We did a vacation rental through this agency and had a very unpleasant time between Christmas and new years. When we got there, the house was given to us, filthy, unattended to, smelly and in a horrible condition. You could imagine what a house would look like after a party the night before! Dishes in the sink, towels in the bedroom floor, wine glasses in bedrooms, spilled drinks on the tables.... After a few hours of hanging out with 2 families, we got in there and still was not properly cleaned as you can see in the pictures, and no towels! they were delivered later! No water pressure for 4 days, took a long time for hot water to get to showers, and we had do one by one showers due to the lack of water pressure. Tried to notify the management through email (3 notices), no response. and as I am writing this, still no response. Have notified American Express in the meantime. We booked a cabin for Easter weekend 2023, checked in at 3pm. They told us that we would get a notification with the address information when the cabin was ready. They said it would be by 4pm. So we went to have lunch. We get to our cabin at 5:15pm and the cleaner is still there cleaning the cabin. At this point, said she had only cleaned the bedrooms and she was working her way out. We called the offices and informed them of the situation. They proceeded to tell us the only thing they would do is let us check out late for no charge. What??? Are you kidding??? So we just have to sit in the driveway and wait. Gee, I wonder how well the rest of the cabin got cleaned?! Btw... they would have let us have late check out anyway, all you gotta do is ask.
