I'm truly dissatisfied with the experience. Upon checking in we were told by Camila (front desk staff) there was a lockbox for the property. However, when we arrive to the property the cabin required a physical key that was supposed to be provided by Camila and she neglected to pay attention to such details. The property is 10 mins away from their main office (where you are required to check-in). My entire family and I were searching for the lock box mentioned by Camila and in the email, yet both information were incorrect. After slipping on the ice and freezing ourselves attempting to find the so called lockbox, I decided to call the main office and the representative informed me that they would send out a staff member to deliver physical key. 20 minutes later after my phone call to the main office, a man arrived to our location as he was told to come by, yet he has no key to deliver to us and states, "I got a work order so came to check it out" but appears to be clueless of the situation. This was not the man's fault as he was just doing his job by coming out to see what the issue was yet was given no information either. I then see the man searching for the lockbox throughout the entire outside of the cabin just like we did. He then approaches me while we wait in our car to avoid freezing ourselves in this 28 degree weather to find out he has no idea that there was a physical key. Now 35 minutes of waiting and the staff member who is attempting to figured out how to get the cabin open states "I guess you need a key and I have to go to the office to get it." This was extremely frustrating considering the lack of attention given to this situation. We not only weren't provided inaccurate details but had to wait for a total of 1 hr and 20 mins in our cars to get in to the cabin. The pictures attached include the time I notified the front desk staff via text message and the other picture shows the time (7:24 pm) and outside temperature while we waited. The others show the tv left on the couch and the text when I told them about the water and fireplace issue. Finally the men arrived but the key doesn't open the cabin. At this point I'm not only mad but truly disappointed about this situation. I paid nearly $1100 to stay and faced with a horrible experience. I understand mistakes happen but to have been given inadequate details and then provided the wrong key is absurd. I attempted calling their emergency number and I got a voicemail. I called the front desk and no one answered. I also called the number I have been receiving text messages regarding my reservation and they hanged up. The images shows the attempted phone calls and time. As you can see the time called was nearly an hour after the initial contact via text. This is not to put down this agency but to make them aware of their poor service provided. At this point an 1hr and 20 mins went by and the man was given the wrong key and was forced to go back. 20 mins later another staff member showed up with the right key. To make matters worse, when turning on the fireplace, it started smoking leaving us with a horrible smell in the house from the smoke. Somehow this cabin was not up to par or standards because when we used the shower in master bedroom, the water would not drain properly and the tub was absolutely disgusting along with the shower curtain. I reach out via email to let big bear vacations know about the issues we had with our stay, in hopes for responses before turning to Yelp & Google but did not get a response. We had many issues with our stay at our cabin. We stayed at Shay Meadows The Ranch House which was 6 bed 6 bath cabin. We had multiple family members and children with us on our trip. The issues we had were right when walking into the cabin. 1. There was a smell and we had to air out for hours 2. Showers upstairs did not work at all 3. Toilet was running all night 4. Sink was tricking water all night 5. All showers down stair had water heating problems 6. Showers downstairs were weak as well 7. One of the restroom shower curtains just fell on it's own on my niece 8. 2 broken stove burners 9. No knob on 1 on stove 10. Baking sheets did not fit the oven 11. Please replace the beds. Either it was too old or too hard. I wish they would of responded to our email about all our issues. The communication with them is very poor. read more

The girl was totally clueless about where things were or what to do with contracts. The guy had to explain to her, step-by-step, what to do, and how to do it. They weren't mean or anything, but they seemed a little too fake. When you buy the deal, it doesn't explain that you have to go to their office first, fill out 54 pages of contract crap, and then you get your keys. Due to our Living Social deal, our cabin came with a free shirt, and free golf chips. The deal didn't come with the cabin pictured on their website, however. After reading all the terrible reviews, we will be checking our card statements in fear. Don't even. Just....don't. read more

The hot tub water was green and smelly. One of the reasons we booked this property. We called and they came to shock the water. It still was green and not swimmable. When called Camilla (I believe) and another member informed me that a $50 a day credit would be given back to our account. Doesn't quite make up for it not being usable but it was what it was. But then, a "manager" called after we checked out he informed me that would not happen and that only $37 would be credited vs $100 credit (since we stayed two nights). I told him about the conversation I had with two members regarding the refund. He was extremely rude when I explained to him that no I was told $100 credit was to be refunded to us. The whole reason we booked here was because of the hot tub. This should have been checked before we arrived. The dishwasher was broke, lots of kitchen items missing as well. I'm so disappointed in our stay. The house itself was nice but the cleanliness of everything and management was not up to other standards. We are staying at a different cabin now managed by another company and the staff is very helpful and the hot tub is clean. We are staying down the street currently from the old cabin and I have half a mind to go talk to the owner to let him know about the mismanagement of his cabin. read more

This place was an easy check in at the office with a super helpful and friendly employee! The property was beautiful with several rental cabins and tons of snowy space for our kids to play! Me and my wife stayed on one of their cabins (#110) on memorial weekend. I really disappointed. This cabin was very old and everything inside and out side of cabin were over used. Bathroom was awful, hot tub was dirty. Shower curtain had stain on it. My wife didn't like to even have a quick shower for our 2 nights stay! Carpets was dirty and stained as well. Absolutely DO NOT recommend staying here. The cabin we were given was disgusting. The bed was covered in stains, dirt, and smelled awful! The entire cabin smelled horrible and the carpet was covered in stains. The shower looked like a scene out of a dark horror film (unfortunately did not get a picture). No fault of the cleaning crew...the place is old, needs to be DEEP cleaned and redone. There was only one other couple staying on site and they placed us right next to each other despite multiple cabins on the property. Our bathroom window faced their cabin giving them a direct view into our bathroom since the window shade was made for children instead of an adult. We had two nights reserved and left at 4am after the first night and refused to stay another night. We called the moment they opened the next morning and we never received a call or any form of communication back from management. Instead, they chose to just refund us for one night with no communication. The least you could do is call and provide an apology. Also important to note, this was before the snow had arrived, so the entire town was completely dead. The cost did not meet the service or experience we received. We were not expecting the Ritz but we did not pay to have a motel level experience. ONLY positive was the view of the lake which made the early morning escape somewhat enjoyable. read more

I would definitely NOT recommend that anyone book a rental from this company. We've had to file a complaint with BBB and hire an attorney to resolve our dispute/claim. Let me just say they are nice on the phone and in person, but they will take advantage of you (not receiving the quality paid for, hazardous conditions, billing problems, poor maintenance and response to customer concerns) and will definitely overcharge for cleaning in order to keep your deposit even after receiving $24,000 for a long term rental placement. We stayed with them for 4 months in three different rentals so this is not a petty claim/dispute in any way. Please look elsewhere for your vacation so that you can actually enjoy your stay in Big Bear. Cool place for the price. Could use a few updates. We stayed at Lakeshore Cabins (Juniper 105). One of the reasons we stayed here was because of the hot tub. But wit wasn't clean or even full of water. That was disappointing. The cabin is located in a perfect place around the lake. But the atmosphere could use some spaces around the lake that you can go out and chill. Fire pits, chairs, etc... We did have a good time and the price point was great at just $150 a night. I enjoyed cuddling in the cabin with my babe. Although I must say I was little leery of the sofa it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. I've had friends that caught bedbugs from those types of situations. The shower had hot water and good pressure but it was a little hard to turn on. The place is not bad ...just needs a few updates, and the rooms need to be just a bit cleaner. read more

Horrible experience. Very unprofessional company. Gave them plenty of notice of our stay and arrival time. When we showed up the driveway was full of snow, the home uncleaned, and road icy. We were never sent check in instructions because the cleaners never came (likely due to the inaccessibility of the home). We were provided with shoddy other options and the company was very unhelpful and unresponsive. They refused to give us confirmation of a refund and even stopped answering our calls at a certain point. I can't believe this company is in business. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

This is the worst place to use for vacation rentals. BEWARE! The check in staff are all so unwelcoming and do nothing to make your stay enjoyable. What a terrible way to start a vacation. We paid for our vacation on hotels.com $1800 ahead of time and gave them a platinum credit card upon checkin and they wanted to refund the first card, charge the second card, like what?? It's paid for and here's a new cc for checkin. They asked if that was ok and I said no. Manager can't over and talked about them charging my new card the $1800 again. Finally one phone call was made by the mgr and everything was fine. They were all awful. No smiles nothing when you arrive. Ick. read more

Our check in experience with BBV was nice. The staff was friendly. My review is due to the condition of the cabin Lakeside 109. Like many others I'm reading, we also had a dirty cabin. The carpets were dirty and stained. Dead bugs on the window sills and cob webs in the screens. There was also a major ant problem throughout the cabin. You could see them swarming in the overhead light fixtures. Furnishings were old and could do with a refresh such as the sofas in the living room with holes. Also noted that it appears the tv in the living room on the mantle was not actually mounted to the wall. As there were wires coming out from the side of the tv, if a family had kids who accidentally pulled on them, that tv would crash down on them. Hopefully they will check on this as I wrote that in my survey that BBV sent. The cabin was in a great location and had gorgeous lakeside views. You could walk out your front door and be at the dock fishing in minutes. However the cabin itself has so much potential but could use a refresh and some updating given the amount they are asking for rental fees. Some updates are easy: The coffee maker was broken and needed to be replaced. Or if you claim a cabin accommodates 8 people, make sure you have 8 of everything in terms of plates, mugs, etc. For what we paid for a couple of nights, it was okay. However I see in later months that same visit would be over $900 and not worth that kind of money even for those amazing views. read more

Disappointing overall experience. When we booked our cabin no one told us how far it was from town. The drive to town and to vons was about 15 minutes each way. The drive up to the cabin was very bad. The road up was narrow, winding, and unpaved. I can't imagine driving up to the home during the snow. The home didn't look like the pictures. The game room Down stairs was freezing and no one wanted to go down there. My daughter fell down the stairs and hit her back on the step. Our cabin was Not a kid friendly cabin. The bathroom was so old the flush was a chain hanging on the wall you had to pull. The final straw was that I booked the cabin 4 days before we went on our trip and I was told we would get late check out. On the day we checked in they told me I wouldn't get the late check out because another party booked the cabin. No one bothered to tell me that we would no longer get the late check out. I even had an email chain going with their reservation specialist who kept pushing me to book through her "link". It was our first time booking with this company and the last. read more

The reason I wanted to do a review is because I always get great customer service from them and the property i stayed at was great. I hope this one will be the same. Alot of people on here need to stay out of big bear if they want some ritz carlton experience. Get off your high horse. The property I stayed in the first time was great, so I called to book again and it was a woman named Stephanie was who answered my call. Very nice and very professional. Very informative and helped me get everything squared away. Even got me a repeat customer discount which saved me a few hundred on the same place thru Air BnB. Upon arrival to the check in destination we arrived 30 mins early and were told they would text the address and lockbox # for the key after 4. I really don't understand what the difference the 30 minutes made because there is no way the cleaners were still there. They had blacked out the address on the paperwork but I was still able to read it and drove straight there! Why they insist upon this cloak and dagger nonsense I don't know and should have realized what type of business they operate! Also I enquired about the late check out and told the staff member that we would like to request the 11am check out and was told I needed to text or call on the morning off departure!!! Upon booking this online there was a multi page heavy handed contract that required 15 signatures,. All about rules and regulations which would imply that the home was spectacular. It wasn't. At 4.15 I sent a text to advise them that we still had not received info and then I had to make a phone call to the agency for the lock box #.. The house was just about functional, the floor was not clean, when we moved the couch there was a substantial amount of dirt that had been swept under. The stools under the kitchen island were too high to sit comfortably and were either broken or so flimsy that they were a health hazard. One or two of the legs had already been broken off and were just hanging on. The kitchen faucet was barley hanging on and came off a couple of times in my hand. The toilet leaked in the bathroom, the shower head was hanging out of the wall.. For what we paid we were majorly disappointed, This was not cheap and the cleaning fees that were charged I have to question. I would not recommend using this site. Some people like to eat at the home, maybe sit outside having meals or just unwind. There was no kitchen table to sit at or outdoor furniture. The bench that was outside was dangerous and not secure to sit on. During this Covid pandemic people are trying to enjoy a retreat and enjoy being outdoors at their rentals, this was definitely not the case at this house.. It didn't feel like a home from home. The only good thing is the neighborhood was a pleasure to walk around.. peaceful and quiet. read more

Loved our Big Bear Vacation at the Comstock Cottage 2199. On check in, the friendly staff gifted us a container with 6 spices, totally appreciated for the BBQ steaks and asparagus we made our 2nd night there. Everything worked perfectly. Great gas BBQ, jacuzzi (super clean and already warmed up for our arrival), stove and heaters! Had an enclosed yard and a doggie door (which was closed to keep out the cold) but wish I had brought my dog as he would have enjoyed this property too. Took me a minute to figure out the TV's but my daughter showed me how to get to some regular TV channels. Bring your firewood and kindling. Although listed under amenities as gas/faux log fireplace it is only available as a regular wood fireplace which worked out fine. Needs a set of dinner steak knives (and maybe a measuring cup), but other than that had enough pots, pans and kitchen knives and implements for home cooking. Happy that the driveway parking was on a flat surface since it rained, then snowed and the roads became sheer ice. Also, main office was very kind allowing a little extra time at checkout as I was waiting for AAA. Great location, close to the Village & Alpine Slide. Thank you BBV! read more

The one we found on Airbnb wasn't available for early check in, but the rep from Big Bear Vacations searched their properties for one that we could check into immediately, and it was a great place! Stayed at the Lakefront Chalet recently and had mixed feeling about it. I want to start off by saying that the home was very beautiful, spacious, and very clean. No complaints there. Having to drive to the office for check in was annoying as check in is at 4 pm and traffic is very heavy at that time through Big Bear Blvd and the sun sets rapidly after that making it dark. We arrived at 5 pm to the home with all the traffic we had to go through and it was dark at time of arrival. The driveway had not been plowed so we had to chain 2 of the vehicles so that the could go into the driveway. I clearly had put that we had a total of 4 vehicles on the contract and it should of been ready for our arrival. Annoying and inconsiderate since they knew we were checking in that day. The day of checkout, we were trying to leave at 8 am since we had a baby that had gotten sick overnight and needed medical attention, but the cars in the driveway were stuck and wouldn't move since it was iced. Chains were not helping since it was too slippery and could not get up the driveway. We called the front desk for assistance since this was NOT a cheap rental. The first thing we were asked by the front desk was "was the driveway not plowed". Shouldn't you know the answer to that since we are only renting it for 2 days? They sent a front desk to place snow melt which did absolutely nothing and they wouldn't help us after. The front desk lack of attention was really frustrating. We had to call multiple tow services to try to pull us up the driveway, but they would not assist since it was a private driveway and it was the owner's responsibility to make sure it was plowed and cleared. We were instructed to call Big Bear City to report it. We do not have that kind of time. We should not be responsible for that. Once again, front desk didn't know what to say. We did not have the equipment to break the ice on the driveway and were only provided 2 plastic shovels that were on the property and I want to clarify that shovels do not break ice. Multiple people from our group slipped and hurt themselves on the property while trying to clear the ice. Thankfully, the neighbors surrounding the home came out to give us extra tools and to give a helping hand in clearing the ice. There's a lack of responsibility from the office. We wasted 2.5 hours trying to clear the ice so that our vehicles could go up the driveway. This rental was not cheap at all and the lack of responsibility and attention in this matter was unacceptable. This issue really ruined our experience. Please beware when renting. NO HOT WATER FUNCTION IN SHOWER/ TUB; dirty sandwich maker (health concern)-- were the 2 top issues. Not willing to work us to make things right once items were brought up, because it was done outside of their reporting window. The shower faucet just spun around. Filthy old food in the sandwich maker- Other small things were 'off'- patio screen doors don't close all the way; freezer leaked and dripped into the refrigerator. These were tolerable.. The lodge we stayed in had so much potential, unfortunately it was in great need of cleaning and renovation. The showers had mold, the windows were filthy, the furniture was old and ratty, the window blinds were broken and the kitchen had a thin film of grease on everything. The kitchen sink was worn and stained. Drawers and cabinets were dirty with random items thrown in. When we complained they sent someone to clean but it was too little too late. I wish i can upload the video of the construction on here but it wont let me, be aware everyone of this horrible company, we rented a lake front cabin for my birthday, me my wife my mom and my 10months baby, trash everywhere, spiders in the bedroom on the bed, beer cans everywhere, most importantly, they had construction with heavy-duty equipment working literally right next to our door, from 7am to dawn, We couldn't sleep at all, what pissed me off the most is my baby kept crying the whole time ,no naps no sleep for 2 days! It's ridiculous, never ever experienced some poor service like this, I come big bear once a month with my family I seriously never ever had such a horrible experience like this, when we contacted the management the only thing they tell us oh we sorry we can't do anything about it, why didn't you tell us there's going to be work on your property?? We asked to get an extra night at least free of charge the manager says the most we can do give you 10% off the next stay lol really really??! I paid more than 1000$ for this and I have to deal with all this crap, I'll post the pictures of everything so you'll can see. read more

I took my two sons and one of their friend snowboarding and used Big Bear Vacations for lodging accommodations. Our stay was from 2/12/20 to 2/15/20. The simple reason I am writing this is for 2 reasons. The first being that I was misled to believe that the cabin was in proper rental condition - a complete and intentional misrepresentation. The second is that I could have gone elsewhere and enjoyed our 3 night stay. On the night we checked in, we made every attempt to heat the upstairs but it never warmed up. My son and his friend froze that night and ended up having to sleep on the two small couches downstairs. They could not extend their legs so they woke up with neck aches every morning - but it was better than freezing. The heater kept us up all night. It was an old heater that made a knocking sound for about 1 minute before turning on. It would literally start up at all hours of the night resulting in waking us up. The bottom bedroom was never cleaned. The bedding was tumbled on the base of the bed. The pillows were stacked in the closet without pillow covers. The second night, after we finished boarding we were all looking forward to taking a warm shower. Unfortunately, the water heater only had enough water for 3/4 of a shower. I called the management company who sent someone over immediately - this was the only reason why it got a star at all. Unfortunately, the person who came out said that the cause was because they had a small water heater and that we would have to give it 30 to 45 minutes between showers. So then it naturally means that they have had to deal with this before because they knew the problem and instead of anticipating and fixing the problem, they allowed us to rent the cabin anyway. But that also means that they expected us to wait 90 to 135 minutes for all of us to shower - completely unreasonable. Beware - do not book from this company because it's obvious that they could care less about the type of cabins they represent. I was ripped off. read more

Big Bear Rentals manages many properties, so this is for 325 Ringwood Trail. The property was very spacious and beautiful, and perfect for large groups as you don't have to step on each other. This is where the positives end though. The cabin was dirty and poorly stocked. For example, it did not provide did not provide basic amenities like paper towels or shampoo. It also did not have wifi. So...this is kind of like what you expect from Motel 6, except you aren't paying Motel 6 discount prices. The home was also dirty: we found a used bandage by the door, weird red stains around the home: the toilet seat had blood stains on it, and horse excrement everywhere outside. It is kind of annoying because there is a cleaning fee associated with this property so I would have expected a through cleaning job. I would recommend that you rent with caution, and essentially, bring your own house if you decide to rent this property. I don't know how the other properties are but it looks like there is a fair share of dirty homes so I don't think the housekeeping is doing a great job, and from the canned responses from Big Bear Vacations, I do not think they take these complains seriously to take any proactive action. Just a forewarning: the property is off a dirt road so it is a bit of a challenge getting in and out of you do not have a high clearance car. read more

I just wanted to say that this was the most seamless trip I've gone through with my friends ever. Booking our stay was super easy and the cabin my friends and I stayed in was so cute! I wish I had taken pictures because we were very impressed. I was also surprised at how fast customer services texts are responded to. Rented this place recently and soon as we left and got home my wife realized she left some stuff there. She new exactly what she left and where she left them. We called them emailed them letting them know and no response till a week later. When response was received they said nothing was there. So lululemon jacket, sweater and a flannel is now gone. Some of my favorite parts of the cabin were the game room with pool & foosball tables, also very spacious, great location, and extremely quiet neighborhood. We have booked a big bear trip with our family of 16 to celebrate Christmas the last several years and our experience this year with our Cabin and the property management company, Big Bear Vacations, was terrible. We arrived to the house a little early (about 3pm) and found that there was nobody there so assumed we'd be able to check in early since every other year we've gone they allow us to check in if it's ready. When we called they told us it's not ready and that the contact says 4pm so we need to wait. Nobody showed up to do anything in that hour that we sat there and waited, so they apparently made us wait just because. When we walked in the entire house smelled like fish. We had to air it out and spray perfume ( there was no room spray or candles in the house). We got everything unloaded and unpacked and around that time 3 men knock on the door and tell us they're the cleaners and they need to come in. We told them no because nobody notified us they would be coming and they were all dressed in regular clothing. No uniforms or anything to show us that they're cleaners. They claimed that somebody send them pictures of stuff that was missed in the house. It wasn't us who sent the pictures so we were very confused and told them they couldn't come in. Once we started settling in and using stuff in the house we realized the house was not as pictured whatsoever. Everything was old and falling apart. Everything was filthy. Baseboards were covered in dirt and hair, the carpets looked like they've never been vacuumed, showers had mold in them, sheets and pillows smelled like they weren't washed. It was beyond disgusting. We had been there several hours when my husband went upstairs to check out the loft where our small children ( ages 2-7) were playing, and he found a PACKET OF COCAIN under the mattress. We called the property management company and they offered to send new sheets. What?! How does that help. Not to mention the mattress he found it under was disgusting. It looked like it had been peed on. The table out back was covered in cigarette butts. We had to clean them up before we could allow our kids to go outside. The railing in the loft was so loose if someone leaned on it, it would likely break and they would fall down 10 feet to the living room. The bunk bed was falling apart. When my 6 year old rolled over on the top bunk the entire bed would shift and rock bath and forth. Upon leaving the cabin and pulling the sheets off we found that the master bedroom mattress had blood all over it. When we spoke with Big Bear Vacation about all of this afterwards and sent them all of the pictures of everything that was wrong and dirty in the house, we got the run around and they stated that they tried to send somebody to clean the home but we turned them away. So apparently the 3 strange men were sent by them and they planned to clean an hour after our promised check in time. Not okay! They acted like they would see what they could do to get us an appropriate amount of our money refunded back to us for the lack of cleanliness and all of the trouble. But never received a phone call back. They held us off for a week by saying the people that they needed to talk to were sick and we just never heard back from them. We have had so many amazing cabins and property management companies that we have dealt with in big bear, but this company is a joke! If you book a cabin steer clear of them! read more

After an 8 hour drive in snowy weather we just wanted to check in and get some sleep, upon arriving we found the Beds unmade, dirty towels, dishes in sink. Spent the entire night washing blankets and towels luckily we brought our own detergent! First thing in the morning we went out and bought the cleaning items we needed- a cleaning crew later showed up but only changed sheets we had already washed, comforter was still unwashed was told a manger would call back, never heard back. Me and my friends went to Big Bear for a girls getaway and we had an amazing time! The customer service is fantastic! We stayed at the Lake Shore Cabin. It was stocked with mostly everything we needed. We did forget to buy paper napkins but other than that it comes with the bare essentials. Even had a plug in heater and fan available. Pros: Excellent customer service Cabin stocked with supplies Clean Amazing view! Close to town They give you a spice sampler when you check in at the front desk, which was very convenient considering we forgot salt. Cons: We had our original cabin cancelled and had to swap for this one. The front door had cardboard replacing windows. The guest room bed was EXTREMELY squeaky. Other than that check out was easy and they were offering complimentary stay promotion until 1pm for exchange of a review. I would definitely book from them again. read more
