Big Beard's took us to Buck Island for swimming on Turtle Beach and snorkeling on the reef. Captain Curtis and guides Severn, Gabriel Junior and Tristan were all excellent. They took excellent care of us in the water and cooked up a nice lunch of hot dogs, burgers and mahi mahi. And kept everyone lubricated with vodka punch. This tour was awesome. Seeing Buck Island was amazing, and the spot they took us to snorkel was one of the best snorkeling experiences I've ever had. The crew was all very friendly and helpful and was happy to answer questions-even when they were busy cooking lunch or steering the boat. I'm not sure if this is how it always goes, but Big Beards got to the island before any other charter so we had lots of uninterrupted time to walk around and explore. It was a great day and we left full of good cookout food and rum punch. Would definitely recommend. read more

We've visited St Croix over a dozen times and we always have 2 or 3 visits to Bigbeards. For a first time we always take people on the all day with Renegade. A nice time snorkeling then a delicious BBQ on the beach. Besides hot dogs and burgers, they offer rum-marinated Mahi-mahi. When we do a second visit we go on the half day. Then we always do a sunset sail to relax. They are even more fun in the summer because you can swim at Turtle Beach on Buck Island. The crews are outstanding and all are helpful. We saw Captain Hocker pitching in to help pickup beach trash. Also the free rum punch makes the trip complete. Highly reccomend. read more

We were told the morning of the sailing that our reservation was cancelled. We'd made the reservation over a week before. They offered to re-book us with a 20% discount at a later sailing but because it took the entire 2 weeks we were on the island to get a reservation with them, we were flying out the next day. Left on time. Great guides, very patient if it is your first time snorkeling. We were caught in a storm and Captain offered to get people a Taxi home. Wonderful experience for the whole family. We had large group from 10-65 years old, experienced to first time snorkeling (even some non water guys in the group). Everyone had a wonderful time and the crew treated each person as if they were family. We especially loved the way the day was set up- to have a beginner lesson to get comfortable in the water and then progressed to the reef trail. Even though the water was a bit rough, our kids felt confident by the time we went on the trail. Gabe, Greg, Ginger and Jade went above and beyond. The grilled Mahi-mahi was perfection. read more

Took the half day tour to Buck Island and wasn't disappointed. They delivered more than I could ever imagine. I have a fear of the water and cannot swim, but Tito, one of the guides on the boat, took his time to ensure that I wasn't left out. He worked with me and my fears and got me in the water. I would've never imagined being able to see the beautiful sea life while snorkeling and Tito made that possible. Thanks for ending my year on such a high note. My friends and I took a half day tour and it was amazing. We were celebrating our friends birthday and it was a tour to remember. Captain Molly did a great job with the boat and getting us there safely. Emily was fantastic. She was very patient with me and the others as it was many of our first time snorkeling. Leah also did a great job helping too. We did the half day tour and it was well worth it. We had plenty of time to learn, practice, and snorkel on our own. We Emily found out it was my friends birthday, she gave her a life vest with birthday girl on it and had the whole boat sing happy birthday, which she loved. We also had unlimited rum punch at the end which was a great ending to the tour. I loved everything about the tour and I would highly recommend this tour. You won't regret it!!! read more

A 'do not miss'! Did a 1/2 day Buck Island tour. The crew were fantastic, friendly and helpful. Buck Island speaks for itself. It is beautiful. The coral on the reef is pretty beat up but there is still some elkhorn coral still standing. The reef was teeming with many different fish. The Parrot fish were huge and absolultely beautiful. I came across a school of squid and followed it a little way. Cool! The crew cheerfully took good care of those not comfortable in the water and keeping an eye out that no one got too far away from the boat. A great all around experience. read more

We've taken several tours with Big Beards from the first time we visited and now that we're locals, we still go with them! Always a great crew on your sail and very accomodating and helpful if you need anything. They'll teach you how to snorkel if you need lessons and if you decide you just want to sunbathe on the boat, they're okay with that too! You really can't beat Buck Island - the powdery white sand on the beach is something from a dream. Definitely worth the money for the adventure! Hubby and I saw a nurse shark on our first snorkel tour - absolutely no danger, it was coasting along the bottom of the sea floor and had no interest in all of us snorkelers - but really cool to see! Plenty of beautiful fish and reefs! The sunset cruise is fabulous as well, highly recommended to end your day! Or start your night, whichever you choose since it's right on the Christiansted Boardwalk! read more

This was my first time visiting St. Croix and heard snorkeling at Buck Island was must do adventure. This couldn't have been more true! Captain Curtis and his first mate, Tristian, were excellent hosts! Both were very knowledgable about the area and made our safety on and off the boat their priority. As a novice snorkeler, I felt both Captain Curtis and Tristian were patient with me as I struggled to get started. Boy am I glad I summoned the courage to give it a go! There was so much to see underwater! I highly recommend this tour company. We went out on a half day excursion and that was just the right amount of time to be out in the water for this old gal. Big Beard's Adventures is one of a handful of boats that can actually let their anchor down close to the island, so if you are undecided, let that fact give you the reason to give them a try.
