While I was taking my best friend to Houston I had the honor to stop in several different cities on my way there and when you're in Memphis you got to have barbecue. So after visiting Graceland I was starving and I reached for my trusty Yelp and came across several joints in the area. After perusing through the different reviews of places nearby I settled on Big Bill's BBQ. It's locating in a little corner of a shopping area. It's not very big but I picked a good time to come as it started getting pretty busy after I got there. I knew I'd made a good choice as many people had called ahead for take out. There's not much to look st as far as decor but I'm here for the food and it didn't disappoint. I ordered the half rack of ribs and it came with cole slaw and two slices of white bread. I added a side of potato salad. The cribs were mouthwatering good with meaty bones and a spot on sauce to die for. Probably the best cole slaw and potato salad I've ever had. They do something different that I couldn't quite pinpoint just know I'd go with them again. You can't go wrong here and if I'm ever back down this way I'd go again in a heartbeat. read more

I just visited Graceland and I was looking for a hidden gem, ma and pa, BBQ joint and I was lucky the find this place. I had a large BBQ sandwich with fries and the fries were seasoned to perfection. The BBQ sandwich itself was so big I didn't need to eat dinner. What I remember best about this place was the side order of tamales I got. I am from Ohio, so this was my first time eating tamales. We were originally going to eat at the food place at Graceland but the line was too long and we needed to get on the road. So glad I saw this on Yelp! We got the #1 which was a pulled pork sandwich with choice of BBQ sauce (we chose mild), baked beans (fabulous) and fries. All this for $15. I ate here at 11:00 am and expected yesterday"s food to be served first. i was wrong. I had the ribs. It was partially pink inside indicating a smoked process. The meat was moist. There was an excess fat but it added to the flavor and moistness. The beans was robust. The spaghetti had a proper balance of bbq sauce but not over-powering. They give ample amount of their side dishes. On Monday nights, the cracklings are cooked. by all means, if you are a big fan of cracklings, and that your not too concern of your cholesterol intake, then you must try it. Big bills was a great stop for us (on the way back to Alabama from Arkansas). The ribs were great! My husband enjoyed his bar-bar-queue sandwich (with slaw). The Pork Shoulder with mild/sweet sauce was the best! It comes with two sides - I got the beans and cole slaw - and ate the whole thing! My husband ordered the beef brisket and we both agreed that the pork was the better meal. Lots of people came in for take out. I've tried them four times hoping that I could get sum good beef brisket but I was failed again. The brisket was fatty and tasted like it had been boiled all day I can deal with that every now and then but this is my fourth time!! The bread was hard like it had been sitting up all day. Delicious rib tips. That's all I've tried on a regular so far but I will be trying out their other items on the menu. Just been stuck on the tips for a minute. Lol. The Service is pretty good too, not too much but not lacking and they don't look to blame the customer when errors are brought to their attention. They look past that to basically just correcting the order and getting the customer taken care of. looked for a Memphis bbq joint been to marlows not what it's cracked up to be! so our hotel referred us to Big Bills! it is a lil place cozy type, my daughter in law was a lil scared of the bullet hole in door but nice people run it and the cashier was very considerate we had our 3 yr old grandson. we knew we wanted famous BBQ and the yelp rating reviews were good! so I had the sandwich my hubby had the turkey leg. Traveling through Memphis, we were looking for a local BBQ joint with takeout close to our hotel. Big Bill's met and surpassed our highest expectations! The brisket dinner was superb---the meat was tender, juicy and came with a toasted bun! Coleslaw dressing was light and perfect--not over-powering at all. Potato salad was also perfection and so tasty. We ordered an extra side, beans, which were sweet and savory with a hint of spicy---yummy! I was on vacation with a large group, visiting Graceland and we were looking for a quick bite to eat before out tour. There are a lot of fast food chains on this street so when we noticed this little place on the corner we though, why not? It really is a hole in the wall but the food is legit! I am not a regular customer or fan of this barbeque establishment, but I have come to get food on several occasions. I started coming to your business because of my husband. He enjoyed the hot tamales. To me barbeque is barbeque because I am not a big fan of barbeque, but I do know great service when I get it and your place is one of the worst places for service that I have ever experienced!! I have come into your business at opening time, noon time and evening. Customer service is way down! I have been late for work just trying to order a jumbo barbeque combo and a piece of cake. I mainly come to your business for the cake. The ladies that work the cash register are just ridiculous. I really have to stay away from your business because it is not as if I have to eat there. There are barbeque estabishments all over the city of Memphis, I come in because its convenient to me and on my route to work sometimes and as I stated earlier, i enjoy the cake. But to be treated in the manner that these women treat customers is unbelievable. I have tried not to take it personal, but I really feel that it is. Memphis has some terrible customer service all over and yours is right up there at the top. I will probably not come to your business again and you may think that 1 person doesn't make that much of a difference, but trust me it does. I wouldn't want anyone to think this way about my business. I don't know who your owner or manager is of this business, but if this is the way that you allow your business to run it is a surprise that you have lasted this long. When you think of Memphis BBQ, this is the kind of joint you'd think would be really good, and worth a visit, especially if you're from out of town. It's got a cool, authentic-sounding BBQ name, "Big Bill's", and a prime location on the heavily tourist-ed Elvis Presley Blvd., near Graceland. But it'd be a mistake to stop here for some "Q". First mistake, it took over 20 minutes for a simple sandwich. What's up with that!!! There were four men behind the grill (including the fore-mentioned "Big Bill" (whose just fat), and only five customers. What's the problem here? The second mistake, was the 'samich (as they say in Memphis) arrived ice-cold. Their next error was that I ordered the 'samich hot & spicy, but I couldn't taste any heat at all. The only positive was the overly-seasoned fries, which were pretty damn good. The last mistake and the "one that broke the camel's back" was when I asked for ketchup (for the fries) but there wasn't a single bottle of ketchup in the whole restaurant. The cashier did give me two small packets of ketchup that lasted for all of maybe two or three fries. There's lots of better choices for BBQ in Memphis, and this place is definitely a skip-it! read more
