I love the decor of this place as it's got a cool beach vibe and is a relaxed atmosphere. The bison burger I ordered was cooked perfectly, juicy, and I wouldn't have known it was bison as it had no gamey taste to it. Big Billy's is a place I want to love! Their burgers are great but their customer service is just bad! My family stopped in for lunch and the wait staff just seemed disinterested. Every action from taking the order, to bringing the check just seemed to be a chore. The kitchen staff constantly had to yell for them to pick up their plates from the window, really hearing their frustrations with the servers lackadaisical preformance. It would take a few tweaks to make this pretty decent with the main thing being some leadership front of the house to take control. Burgers are very good. We did not take advantage of the Friday bison offering but the ground beef was juicy and the burger patties are generously sized. The beef itself isn't quite as well seasoned as Smashleys but still tasty. The milkshakes were delicious. Not overly sweet and plenty of peanut butter flavor. It was busy for a Friday at lunch time, but a typical burger bar ambiance with "Diners Drive-Ins and Dives" playing on the tv in the background to make us hungry. Lots of good looking good on this menu. I should've ordered a burger solely based on the name, but I was feeling a chicken sandwich, so that's what I built. It was a very basic order- just added pickles and lettuce with ranch. Fries were nothing super great- I would've liked them to be a little crispier. Or crispy at all. The real winner was the onion rings! Delicious. Perfectly cooked. I only wish it wasn't a tower because towards the bottom they were hard to remove and broke apart a little. We have been there before while attending a show at the N Charleston Theatre. The food is good! Burgers, fries , wing sauce is great! This time.... We couldn't judge the food because it never came! Between the waitress telling us about "shift change" and orders lost, the service was terrible! The runner came to us and asked about our order and it still, never came! It's cooked to temp. I ordered medium rare, and it was medium well at best. A burger with a bun is a real treat for me, and I was soo let down. Solution...smash your burgers like EVERY other burger joint in Charleston's doing now, or just don't offer "to temp" burgers...make them all medium. Easy. Also, the burger itself seriously needed some salt. The 3 stars came from the speed of the food being ready, which was surprising with how long that patty was cooking. Or...not surprising since it was practically empty at peak lunchtime. So, this is a classic case of a guy with a PHD deciding to just "open a restaurant", without having a culinary/Food & Bev. background. (If your PHD is in culinary arts, forgive me) Don't do that. The have a whole surf island vibe going on inside with grass huts and all. They also have a little kids area with a take a book, leave a book area which is nice for families. It was slow when we came in, but a few more tables came in while we were there. We got a couple burgers... one with fries and the other with onion rings. The onion ring app looked good but we didn't feel like we needed a whole order of them so getting a side was a good mix. The onion rings were excellent too. I had the black and blue burger with bacon and really enjoyed it. For dessert we shared a choco peanut butter shake. I wish they had chocolate ice cream but they flavor vanilla ice cream instead. It was fine as Billy's is a fast restaurant with little need for prolonged interaction. The burger was delicious! While Billy's offers a variety of meat to make into a sandwich I opted for a typical burger. It was a very large burger and very filling!
