The big Blue Swimming School Tustin is the one of the best place for kids to learn swimming. It is very welcoming and all the staff / coaches are friendly. I would like to share a review for Coach Makai and Coach Jason. Coach Makai teaches my older son, Raghav, who has ADHD and struggles with focus. Coach Makai patiently explains every move and stroke to each child, ensuring they always know what to do next. He has been an amazing coach to Raghav, and I always try to book his classes regardless of the time. Coach Jason teaches my three-year-old, Sohum. He does so much to make each class fun and exciting, from guiding them through putting their goggles on, to dunking down with the kick sticks, and ending with an epic high five. We've been bringing our daughter Lucia to Big Blue Swim School in Tustin since she was just 4 months old, and Coach Angie has been with us from day one. Lucia is now 15 months and we still show up every Saturday and honestly, that says everything. Coach Angie is patient, kind, and just gets it when it comes to working with babies in the water. She knows the curriculum inside and out, but more importantly, she knows how to make the experience fun and safe from the very first class. Lucia went from a baby who had never been in a pool to a little girl who LOVES the water and that's 100% because of Coach Angie. The moment Lucia spots her walking over she starts waving and kicking with excitement. That kind of connection doesn't just happen it's built by a coach who genuinely cares. I'll be honest we've had a couple of classes with other coaches who didn't quite meet the bar we'd come to expect. We gave Big Blue that feedback and they handled it really well. Super supportive, took it seriously, and corrected the situation. We appreciate that a lot. We came back, landed back with Coach Angie, and haven't looked back. If you're a parent on the fence about swim lessons, just go. Water safety is something we feel strongly about, and Big Blue Swim School (especially with Coach Angie!) is the real deal. Went here for my baby grandson. Swimming lessons scheduled in the morning for 30 mins. I enjoyed watching him try to swim in a pool that is laned off. The instructors were friendly and gentle. My grandson was having a good time. It was a group swimming session with other parents and their children. Party of 8 at Max. The place is clean with the given amenities that this business has to offer for kids and adults. The restrooms are a bit on the small side. Only one urinal and toilet designated at the Men's restroom. Overall, the staff conducts themselves professionally. I recommend this place to teach your children to swim. We had such an amazing experience at Big Blue Swim School! From the moment we walked in, every single staff member was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Since we signed up for a free trial, the gentleman at the front desk took the time to explain everything, gave us a tour of the facility, and made us feel comfortable right away. My daughter is 4 years old, and we've tried swim lessons before without much success. One thing we could never get her to do was comfortably float on her back. My two boys (ages 8 and 11) have had a great experience at Big Blue. We have been to another swim school in the area, but we like that the goals here are well-defined and measurable, so the students know exactly what they need to accomplish to level up. The kids like checking the app to see what they've accomplished so far and what they need to work on to get to the next level. The staff is all so friendly, helpful and encouraging. My son tells me that MKai is very funny but also is a great teacher! The facilities are super clean (especially compared to our other school!) and the waiting area is large with a large viewing area. There are several open showers, but very few private showers which is a bummer. I also wish they had a longer full-length swimming lane for the more advanced kiddos instead of having them make U-turns in the shorter lane. Otherwise, the pool size is perfect for smaller kids and beginning swimmers. Really happy to have found Big Blue! read more

I had an incident at this location in May 2025 that has stayed with me ever since. During my daughter's swim lesson, the instructor was supervising three children. At the same time, a sales representative was speaking with me about membership options. While talking, I repeatedly looked over at my daughter and eventually realized I could no longer see her head above the water. I immediately got up to check on her and found her struggling and gasping for air. What was most concerning was that the instructor never acknowledged what had happened or spoke to me about it afterward. Instead, a staff member simply showed my daughter how to spit the water out. As a parent, that response felt dismissive given how serious the situation could have been. Drownings can happen quickly and silently. Had I assumed my child was being adequately watched and not continued checking on her myself, I don't even want to think about what could have happened. I later spoke with Tanner regarding the incident, but at no point did I receive an apology or any acknowledgment of the seriousness of the situation. I am sharing this review to encourage parents to remain vigilant, even when their children are in a supervised lesson. While parents should absolutely pay attention to their children, a swim school also has a responsibility to actively supervise the children in its care. Sometimes the most dangerous moments happen when everyone assumes someone else is watching. read more

Big Blue is conveniently located in the Tustin Marketplace. It's pretty new & when we stopped in they were running a promotion which included about a month's worth of classes for $80. Classes are once a week, 30 mins long. This price is heavily discounted. We did one month's of classes. The facility is nice & new, which is great. The pool is heated so it makes it comfortable for your little one in the water. Outside the pool area is glass windows so if you don't feel like sitting by the pool watching the class from the bench, you can also sit in the lobby area which is air conditioned. There are also hair dryers & plastic bags to put the wet items in when you're going home. I only did one month's worth of classes because for normal price of about $150 a month (one class a week!) I feel like that price is NOT worth the money. I enrolled my 16 month old son in the baby class. The instructors are a hit & miss. The classes are about 6 kids total but I feel after a month's worth of classes I could teach my son the same techniques for free. The instructor isn't that involved & I think it's sort of a gimmick of how advancing up a class is done. Overall, the facility is really nice. But way too expensive otherwise for a group class. read more

Pretty great experience with the swim lessons, the facility, and the staff. We were able to do the first month discounted, but may not be continuing after this month since the regular price is pretty steep. We really liked how new and clean everything was at the facility and would recommend people to try it out. Random side note, I went to the restroom and noticed one of the male employees take a dump and not wash his hands at all before going right back to work. I have nothing but great things to say. We bright our child here after a bad experience elsewhere that left them a bit terrified of swimming and the water. The way our child has blossomed here with the program and coaches they have had been amazing. Our child is in a level now swimming laps and learning all the different strokes with constant corrections from the coach. A HUGE shout out to COACH KRISTEN. She's an AMAZING coach and is constantly working during every class. The attention she's able to provide to the whole class while also giving individual instruction every single lap and exercise is amazing and has been paramount to our child's progress in this current level. If highly recommend this location for general swimming lessons, kids afraid of the water, and actually progression and learning of proper technique. Both my kids had/have Coach Angela and Brenda. Both Angela and Brenda are fun, really encouraging and displaye alot of patience with my younger son. I had high hopes for this swim school because it was close by and was indoors, which meant we could continue classes throughout the wintertime. After about a month, we switched swim schools and oh my, the difference was shocking. The classes here are so robotic. I don't know how often they switch learning models but it felt like the same repetitive drills over and over again. My daughter had one makeup class left, so we came back, and the instructor was amazed at her progress. But even then, she wasn't able to move up a level because of age requirements. How's that supposed to help kids advance their swim skills? It feels more like a box-checking system than an actual teaching program. read more

The swim instructors are lovely. The issue is with the management and the business model. They promote free make up lessons but it's almost impossible to schedule a make up class. I have been told on multiple occasions to book at another location because they have no availability. Then the calendar to reschedule only goes 2 weeks out so it becomes a very time consuming process on the parent side to have to continuously check the schedule to see if there is a class that aligns with your schedule. Progress reporting is ambiguous. All the children are being taught the exact same. So if your student still needs help mastering a skill they fall through the cracks and progress is not made. Even when bringing it to management and being promised notes would be placed for the instructors attention nothing was really done. It was just to pacify my advocacy for my child. Quite frustrating. I ended up giving my 30 day notice to withdraw and attention to my son's process became even less during that last month. No more monthly charge = no care to help my child progress. read more

We just finished our eighth lesson at Big Blue and I am so incredibly impressed with the progress my son has made. He's a very risk adverse kid and we were so nervous about him taking lessons even though we know he needs to learn how to swim. At his first lesson, he was so nervous that he refused to even get in the pool. The leadership team at Big Blue were so kind and let us reschedule our trial lesson with a 1:1 instructor. For the first few weeks, Kelly did an incredible job encouraging our little guy to get in the pool. After the 3rd lesson, he really began to flourish. He's enthusiastically participating in every activity, has loved every single instructor, and is so proud of himself. He's finally letting the instructors hold him in an assisted back float! This kid has never even let us lay him on his back in the tub with a half inch of water. We can't recommend them enough! read more

My kids have been learning at this location for 3 months now and have made significant progress. I love that: - the facility is clean and well maintained - the instructors are all super friendly, knowledgeable and good with kids. I have seen them coaching other kids who are scared or resistant and they all do a great job gently motivating those kids to participate - for my own kids, I particularly LOVE instructors Angela and Caleb. They make it super fun for the kids and are just lovely to watch them teach - the app is easy to use! - the only complaint that i have is even though my account is automatically charged on the first of the month, i dont get the detailed statement in my account or email. I have to request the staff to email me. This seems weird. read more
