Went in for dinner one night and two waitresses were arguing and one said the table we set at she was not waiting on us because they put too many tables on her. We literally had to get up and move because no one came to wait on us and then, after that, she tend to argue with me and my husband we had our food and we left. I traveled here while on business. I'm my area there are no Big Boy locations. I haven't been in one for many many years. It brought back childhood memories. I think the waitress we had was fairly new. She seem not to know basic info, but it wasn't a big deal. Everyone has a starting place. The place wasn't busy so it was clean, and in the background was some oldie music playing. Everyone's food was prepared timely. I ordered the Super Big Boy and it was delicious. It's what a good burger should taste like. McDonald's and Burger King should be a shame for their burgers. If there was a BB near me they would surely get my lunch money read more

So you expect this place to be great right, weIl have a story for you. Basically I ordered spaghetti with meat sauce, and veal. They were out of meat sauce so I ended up asking for them to substitute it with Mac and cheese but keep the veal. Well I got half cooked macaroni and a scoop of interesting cheese that could be about anything. The service was alright however it's great when the server openly telling me the cooks were mad about substituting the food. Anyways as I try to leave what do you know the doors are locked. Have visited twice, first time they said they were understaffed and cook was in training. Omelette was overcooked and hash browns were burned. Second time ordered the turkey pesto roasted turkey sandwich with tomato bisque soup, instead of turkey breast it was rolled up deli slices and stale bread, soup was like warm and had to has several times to have coffee refilled. They seem to be more interested in selling alcohol; which seems unusual for an Elias Brothers, will not return! read more

We came in on a Sunday around 7:30pm and they were out of corned beef(main reason for going was a rueben) so I had the salad bar. They close at 10 and after 1 trip up to the salad bar they turned off the lights to the salad side. The salad had alot of wilted and brown Lettuce, the cheese was broken up slices of cheddar. Lot of stuff empty. Tried 2 different kinds of soup the chicken tortilla soup was pretty much cheesy broth with a couple tiny pieces of chicken. Broccoli soup was Luke warm with areas of cold.(one waitress said "oh we could have warmed it up for you) I could get a can of soup and do the same thing at home! Very disappointing. After eating what I could we had dessert. That was just ok. Son had the cheeseburger and stomach bothered him all night. They took 1 dessert (after 8pm desserts are 1/2 price) off the bill after I complained. I'll never eat there again. read more

The last three times I have been to Big Boys I have been disappointed. But today motivated me to write this review. We were seated and waited 15 min for someone to acknowledge our table while they seated three other tables that were waited on before we even saw our waitress. Finally, she showed up complaining she was busy. No apology for making us wait. After one hour and 18 minutes are food was served. I had to go to the cashier for my bill, and that's when I found out the name of our rude waitress. Now, I was a waitress and a restaurant manager for years. So I understand lack of help, but excuses and poor customer service will not keep you in business. All you needed to say is I'm sorry I just got slammed with tables, I'll be right with you. You don't just ignore your customers Cindy! Did you notice I didn't mention the food, that should tell you something! This is poor management and poor training. Big Boy use to have a very good training program. A tip for the waitress (a play on words) go back to school and find a job you don't need to use customer service skills. read more

We came to this place on the way back from a camping trip. It takes longer time for us to get the fire start and cook by ourselves, so we decided to eat somewhere on the way back. It's standard Big Boy, you won't be surprised, good or bad. I got a build your own breakfast, pick 3, I got 2 eggs, biscuit with gravy and fresh fruit cup. The eggs are alright, gravy is actually better than I thought. But the fruit cup is not fresh at all. Some of these fruits are from can. If I were told it has can fruit, I would't order it. Other fruits not from the can are not fresh at all. One of my friends ordered Strawberry Belgium waffle, and he is pretty. The strawberry on that looks super fresh. Obviously going into Big Boy you don't have high expectations to begin with, but even my lowest expectations were met with something far worse. It's name was Sheryl. She was possible the worse server I have ever had! Beyond that, she was cold, unfriendly and not inviting. Honestly, she made the entire experience so uncomfortable. Not only that she gave the wrong order to one of my family members and did not even brother to say sorry or fix it. Instead, she swapped with one of my other family members even though half the food was already eaten. She acted as if it wasn't her job to wait on us. As a former server I was appalled and I would not recommend this as your restaurant of choice. My boyfriend and i went to get lunch and relax. We had the big boy and the cheesesteak. The food was okay and we were just waiting on our check. It literally took probably 30 minutes. We didn't see our waitress after we got our food once. I ate my whole meal without anything to drink. All around terrible service. I never got a check so i finally went up to the checkout to tell the host and she was rude as well, right when we left she was talking to herself. Thought I'd Give big boy another try. I was even more disappointed on this trip than from the first review it I did of big boy. The salad bar looked as though it had been sitting there for hours upon hours. The watermelon on the salad bar was dried up and hard. The pineapple was shriveled. There was a Jell-O salad that had a hard layer on top from sitting there for so long. After eating there I was sick for three days. I am done with this restaurant. I advise anyone who goes to this establishment for food to check the salad bar before ordering. read more

I was referred to another restaurant for dinner but they were closed so I came here instead. II usually try to avoid chains but I figured, heck, I'll at least get to have a piece of their delicious strawberry pie! There are no Big Boy's in San Diego any more and that pie is one thing I loved to get there. Wouldn't you know it, they were out of it that evening! It is smaller than some Big Boy's (which I make mention of because if it is summer and Sunday - you may have to wait) but the people and the buffet don't look so worn out....which if you have been to another Big Boy, you'll know what I am saying. They have a new pick 3, 4, or 5 breakfast meal which is wallet friendly and fresh. FYI you can get the Big Boy sandwich without fries and it is $2 cheaper - which is not on the menu. If you still want to spend the $2, get the all you can eat soup and salad bar (and take the sandwich home to enjoy later). They have WIFI. read more

The chicken fried steak was delicious and a reasonable portion (not enormous but plenty for most diners) and its crowning glory was *real* gravy instead of a bland white mix version many other chain restaurants employ. The sides all seemed a bit boring and like afterthoughts though, but the fruit and garlic bread were tasty. My husband's fish sandwich and fries was not worth the price paid to be honest. Big Boy is probably not a place we would return to, but I wouldn't rule it out either. I wasn't expecting anything trendy or hip from this place and you would do well not to, either. I was excited to eat at the Big Boy the family would visit when returning from a visit to the grandparents. As we approached the building, my girlfriend and I noticed it was COVERED with bugs. The windows, awnings, siding, and even the statue were infested. And this definitely didnt just happen that day as there were bugs hanging from cobwebs and practically mummified in place. Why in the world wouldnt they have someone come outside and hose the building off when they saw it? It was disgusting. One hanging from a cobweb almost hit my girlfriend in the face! She jumped a foot and I was laughing so hard i decided to give Bug Boy a chance. We ordered the bacon cheeseburger which was solid and the salad bar which was weak. The items looked somewhat fresh but there wasnt much to choose from, and the soup was ok. Kind of a ripoff for 10 bucks, i could have put some chopped lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes on a plate at home and warmed up some Campbells in the microwave. Had breakfast there just past noon on a Sunday after the early rush crowd. Breakfast buffet bar looked pretty sickly, so I had some eggs and hash browns off the menu instead. Was average if that. Service was somewhat slower than I had hoped but the attitude was friendly and nice. Cleanliness seemed good and the restrooms were well maintained. 3 stars only because I can't do 2.5. We have been to the Tawas Big Boy several times and the food is always good. I have a suggestion however for their breakfast that is an easy fix and would make a big improvement. Whatever they use on their toast and to fry their hash browns it is not butter. It does not taste good and leaves an oily taste in your mouth. I compare it to the fake butter that theaters put on popcorn. For pennies more real butter could be used and it would greatly improve the taste of their breakfasts.I like to support our local businesses and this is meant as a constructive criticism. read more

Grew up in Michigan and came home to northern Michigan this past 4th of July and stopped on the way back to the Airport to fly back to Cali. It took 5 minutes for the hostess to make eye contact and finally seated us when she was done chatting with co workers. She asked what we wanted to drink and my adult son asked if they had Pepsi or Coke and she Coke products. Asked her if they had Dr. Pepper and she rolled her eyes and said rudely only Pepsi Products. She brought my water while my son decided what he wanted to drink. 10 minutes went by and nobody came to take our order. We left $1 on the table for the glass of water and walked out. Pretty sure the hostess and the 3 waitresses milling around the service area didn't notice us leaving. That is why we left without even ordering. Won't be back. Although the big boy was as close to the real deal, the service from Kristine which good at first....she became overwhelmed with people. The fries and onion rings and strawberry pie were not so good. The ladies restroom had no paper towels and was dirty! The toilet paper was so thin it would not come off the roll. Also the grab bar for the handicapped ladies room was installed too close to the toilet paper holder. This made it impossible for myself and the poor lady before me to utilize it to get up. Many Big Boy restaurants are not that great but I was pleasantly surprised when I went here for a late lunch.Ordered the perch dinner which was the day's special for 10.99.2 sides were coleslaw which was on the small side and steamed broccoli florets. Fish had a very light coating (not batter) and was nicely seasoned. Service was also good. Restaurant was clean. Oscoda is the town my family always went to for our family vacations. We always rented the same cottage right on the lake and always had a blast. This Big Boy, who I think has always been a franchise, was were Mom liked to take us for breakfast, if we weren't cooking for ourselves, and it's always been pretty good. Well it still is. nothing fancy, no frills but it is exactly what you need in the morning. Just give me some good coffee, some eggs and tasty potatoes. It's nice to see something stay the same that I can remember from my childhood. Keep it up folks. =) read more
