    A minnow w/ a lot of breading

Never again! Waited forever for food, was done w/ my drink when food came. Asked for refill, but didn't come. Asked Supervisor for refill, she asked waitress. Still didn't come. Showed Supervisor my overly breaded, greasy, yucky fish n chips w/ barely any fish in 1 piece (all breading). She argued that "there is some fish in there" & offered to bring another piece. She never did. The fries were so hard that 1 snapped when I tried to stick it w/ fork & went flying, making another table laugh. I went to cash register bc I never rec'd check & told her the issues. She said "well, I credited your fish 50% for those few bites". It was all gross. The service and attitude were deplorable.

The fish on the bottom is what it is supposed to look like! This was 15.00! We live about 30 minutes from there!

my son and husband went into the restaurant for lunch they brought me back an order of cod. I opened it and I thought it was bbq chicken it was burned beyond belief no hush puppies and the fries weren't even cooked all the way!

Such a great lunch! We all enjoyed our meals. The buyers were amazing. Even short staffed we didn't feel like it, Awesome service!!! Loved the decor. Pictures & lights with the kids drawings is super fun!

Cheese is broken up cheddar instead of shredded.

We came in on a Sunday around 7:30pm and they were out of corned beef(main reason for going was a rueben) so I had the salad bar. They close at 10 and after 1 trip up to the salad bar they turned off the lights to the salad side. The salad had alot of wilted and brown Lettuce, the cheese was broken up slices of cheddar. Lot of stuff empty. Tried 2 different kinds of soup the chicken tortilla soup was pretty much cheesy broth with a couple tiny pieces of chicken. Broccoli soup was Luke warm with areas of cold.(one waitress said "oh we could have warmed it up for you) I could get a can of soup and do the same thing at home! Very disappointing. After eating what I could we had dessert. That was just ok. Son had the cheeseburger and stomach bothered him all night. They took 1 dessert (after 8pm desserts are 1/2 price) off the bill after I complained. I'll never eat there again.

This was the dolly spicy chicken sandwich and it DISGUSTING

The quaint…read moreambience, friendly service (we were one of the first guests to arrive on a Friday morning mid-May) and fresh brewed decaf were the highlights. The food, which is most important, was a big disappointment. I am a cinnamon roll connoisseur and was so excited to try the rolls that past Yelpers raved about. They were out of caramel today so we ordered the grilled roll with pecans and homemade buttercream frosting. It looked dry and tasted even drier. Barely warm, flourey and tasteless. The frosting was the best part. The menu of choices looks wonderful and diverse for a small cafe. I was delighted to see shrimp and grits. The skillet was very small, the food was hot (a plus) but it was heavy on the grits, which lacked flavor and space on shrimp (only 4), sausage and sauce. I ate the toppings with half the grits and left the rest. My husband ordered the hoagie sandwich with hash browns. His comment was "a lot of bread and minimal filling" with "luke warm" hash browns that were more spongy than crispy. It's hard to go wrong with breakfast, but somehow Lazy Toaster has missed the mark. The concept is fun, the menu is great, yet the recipes and preparation could use some major improvements. The tab ($41 for two) was not bad, but was high for the quality. We liked the decor yet felt the cleanliness was lacking (sticky floors and no paper towels in the bathroom). A breakfast place in East Tawas is a plus; I hope this cafe commits to some improvements and stays around.

Accompanying hash browns were equally well made and tasty where just the right amount of grease/butter was used to make my food (no greasy food here!). This all too often is an issue you see with these small breakfast centric restaurants up north that I was so pleased not to see here at the Lazy Toaster. Relative to the restaurant and staff, Lazy Toaster has a nice comfortable rustic "Up north" feel to it which I enjoyed where the staff was super friendly with great follow up throughout the meal and and where they are definately on top of their game when it comes to Coffee top-offs. Nice! Overall, this is definately one of the better breakfast spots in the greater Tawas/Oscoda/Harrisville area and is now on my short list of go to restaurants in the area.

We haven't always found the food to be reliable, but it looks as though their menu has been changed and simplified. There used to be a crazy variety of heavy cream sauce dishes, liver and onions and Italian dishes - the overly wide variety you know can't all be homemade. (NOTE THAT A LOT OF NEGATIVE REVIEWS ARE FROM YEARS AGO.) The new menu is more focused and pared down. Our first taste of the new offerings was via room service on our 20th anniversary. (Room service menu is limited, food comes out of the same kitchen.) I enjoyed my BBQ brisket, my husband said his burger looked okay but had no flavor. Quality of beef is everything in a good restaurant burger, people! Fries were like McDonald's. We shared a Greek antipasto with an enormous slab of good feta cheese, cucumbers, pickled beets, Greek olives, marinated peppers, avocado, red onions and a sweet champagne lemon dressing that was homemade. There was only a bit of spring greens mix, but I can't complain as this wasn't described as a "salad". The brisket was smoked well and was pretty tender. The sweet BBQ sauce caramelized really well with the fat (it's not a lean cut of meat) and produced a great flavor-texture combination. Husband tasted it and agreed it was the best thing to ever come out of Topsiders. We live in East Tawas and have eaten here dozens of times. Old Topsiders was 2.5 - 3.0 stars. New Topsiders a 3.6 - 4.0 stars so far. We have very few solid choices here, so this is exciting! Appreciate the updates, look forward to more. Pleasantly surprised and quite happy!

We just left Mom in the nursing home dining room and we are driving and I said I am getting a little hungry! So, I make the executive decision to eat at a restaurant with a view of Lake Huron! Lo and Behold there was a resort by the name Tawas Bay Beach Resort and I am sure that they have a restaurant with a fine view of Lake Huron. So, we decide to stop there. The outside was quite nice it sort of reminded me of any other fine Hotel. So we enter by where the restaurant is located and go into the restaurant area. Quite a few people were seated already. Me and my sister thought that maybe there was a family reunion going on at this particular resort. We are seated near a window overlooking Lake Huron. We see sailboats and people on the beach. Very calming and beautiful! The waiter comes out and gives us menus and takes our drink order. Very nice young man, his name is Jake. He takes our food order. We both order a chicken BLT sandwich and it comes with fries. We sit there and take in the ambiance. It is a little loud because there were children, but that is all good! The waiter shared a story about a bald eagle diving for fish in Lake Huron which was quite amusing. He mentioned that he loved his job and it showed through his service. The only thing that he missed was our silverware! But, that was easily solved. I mentioned to him that we do YELP reviews and the next thing you know we both receive a Cannoli on the house! How wonderful. Definitely will go back and if I am not hungry I will just order the Cannoli - OMG it was like heaven on earth! See pictures that I am attaching - definitely a do again especially since the sunrise side has so very few fine dining!

The wood floors and booths have plenty of character, and the place is packed with locals who clearly know where to find a great meal. While the parking lot fills up fast, there's additional parking nearby if needed. The food is the real star. I had steak and eggs, and the steak was incredibly flavorful and tasted like quality local beef. The standout, though, was the country fried steak with sausage gravy. That gravy alone is worth the trip. The fresh-squeezed orange juice was fantastic, and even the rye toast comes from a local bakery. Service was friendly and efficient despite how busy they were. We were seated immediately, the turnover was quick, and the prices were surprisingly affordable. I've heard great things about their breakfast nachos and will definitely be trying them next time. The shrimp and grits were so cheesy and flavorful. Lots of toppings and really good sized shrimp. It was nice that it also came with toast or English muffin. My husband had the hearty breakfast with a little of everything. He said it was excellent. We had to try their warm grilled cinnamon bun. Yummy! Almost too much food to eat. Our server was sweet, attentive, helpful. I want to give Cafe International high marks based on this single quality. Alas, the food makes or breaks a restaurant. The ambience was warm, comfortable and interesting. I enjoyed looking at all the details of decor. I found it to be just "clean enough." One of the two bathroom stall doors would not fully close. The portions of our dinner plate and appetizer were generous, although, the size of the salad bar plate was fairly small. They definitely intend for the salad to be a "side." The lettuce looked wilted, almost like it was slightly frozen, so we made a salad with mostly tomatoes, mushrooms, cheese and croutons. Finally, the final bill, around $35, for an appetizer, dinner and two bottled Pepsis was reasonable, especially as prices for eating out are climbing. Now for the big disappointment: the Jagerschnitzel, our main course, was terrible. The pork was flavorless. The mushroom gravy overshadowed the meat and also lacked notable flavor and the spatzel tasted like balls of flour and water (yep, like little balls of homemade Play dough.) The best part of the dish was the green beans, which may have come from a can. The dinner rolls were ......soft? That's the best I can do. My husband and I were hungry so we ate what we could but we both agreed it was one of the worst meals we've had out in a long time. Our potato skins were fine; lots of potato, not crispy but more like a chunk of a baked potato, with melted cheese and real bacon. We ordered water and couldn't get past the smell of the well water. Our server, who said she lives in the area and is accustomed to it, also acknowledged it can be unpleasant for many. We couldn't order tea or fountain drinks because they use the well water so we had to order a bottled Pepsi. The menu has many items to choose from. I'm wondering if we would have been better off with a sandwich, something ordinary and difficult to prepare poorly. The reviews from other Yelpers are so positive I'm wondering if I'm just not a fan of this type of dish. That's possible. I'll never know because I don't plan to return.
