Service was not great. Came in with a group of 7 at 2 pm on Sunday. All 3 waitresses seemed extremely irritated with our presence. Our waitress was extremely rude. Ive honestly never had someone so bothered with their job. 1st time meeting 2 family members and we wanted to chat for a few minutes. She came back 3 times after we asked for a moment. Last time she said are you actually ready to order yet? Food was sub par at best. Restaurant was dirty. Burger, philly steak, and French dip sandwich were not good. Over microwaved meat with dry bread. Mamas big breakfast wasn't terrible, eggs had an odd taste. Bill for 2 came to $44. Waitress was given $60 then was reluctant to give the change back. We were in Oscoda and my friend took me to Mama's Country Kitchen, we were greeted by a young server, that brought our coffee and water immediately, also, Rainie, took our order, my friend had a Ham & Cheese omelette w/whole wheat, l had a 1/2-order of French Toast w/ link sausage and a side of hash browns. Hadn't been to Mama's kitchen in years and finally gave this place another try as we were having an early breakfast on this day and Mama's has the earliest open time (6:30am) of all the restaurants in the area. I ended up ordering the Western Omellet with Texas toast, The omelette was hot and quite tasty and the Texas toast was good as well and a very nice complement to the omelette. Relative to the restaurant and service, the place defiantly comes across as a bit worn/rustic and the table tops seemed a bit dirty on this morning which was a bit of a turn off to be honest. Service however was fast and friendly with excellent follow up where I got the impression that the waitress (only one working at this early time) had just arrived which may have explained why the table tops were not that clean?? In any event, we were quite happy overall with our meal and definately can see ourselves returning in the future dirty table tops aside. read more

I was not overly impressed with my experience at Mama's Kitchen this past weekend. We stopped in for a quick meal before our trip back down state. The restaurant was kind of hectic, but I do cut them slack for more than likely being short staffed. The restaurant wasn't dirty, but it wasn't the cleanest. Our meals came out hot, and when I say hot, I mean hot. It was hard to eat my omelet because it would not cool off. My meal was decent, I was happy with the omelet but the hash browns left much to desire. Plus, there was a rack with dirty dishes and dirty dish water out in the dining room by the drink dispenser. This was a great diner to stop for lunch after a round of golf. They have a wide variety of food - almost too much. The staff is extremely friendly and were very attentive and helpful. We had to squeeze all 5 of us into a 4 person booth, as they do not have seating for larger parties. The service was quick. I got the Greek salad and added gyro meat, was very good and came with pita bread. My mother got the gyro plate, they forgot the side of rice but it still made for a great gyro. We ended up going up north after the season was over, and boy were a lot of places closed. Mama's was open... but they sure were short-staffed. When we entered, a bunch of tables were full of dirty dishes. One waitress did end up cleaning one up and we were able to sit down after only 5-10min. Of course, we were unable to order or get attention from our waitress for quite a while. While we were waiting, we saw other tables get up and a couple that obviously knew the place came in and started cleaning up tables. While the woman reeked of cigarette smoke, it was SUPER adorable of them to do that!! The food was okay... as expected in a small town diner. We were there on a Sunday night and there wasn't hardly any one else in the place. It's showing it's age but was clean for an older diner. They have a very large menu and a list if daily specials and daily pies. Service was fast and friendly. Since we were traveling we had more questions about the area than the menu. The waitress answered what she could and had the owner come give us some additional information. Very helpful. Breakfast was available all day, they have a senior section on the menu as well as a kids menu. Our food came quickly. Portions were enormous. The food was average, coffee was good. Husband asked for no gravy but his meal was smothered in gravy. I had the chicken parm and it was not very good. 2 super large, over seasoned chicken breasts looked like they were baked, no breading or coating, just a ton on Italian seasoning. A melted piece of mozzarella cheese on both and then a small portion of spaghetti. This was all drowned in a bland spaghetti meat sauce. The bread basket was a slices of white bread (each in a zip lock bag like if we didn't eat it the next person would get it) from a store bought loaf, saltine crackers, and butter. My mom had a turkey sandwich on a croissant. She didn't like the turkey and just ate the rest of it. My aunt got breakfast and it was a standard French toast and bacon. Not much can go wrong with that. We didn't leave hungry. The food wasn't bad, just nothing special. The prices were very low compared to other places we stopped as we traveled. read more

I have been coming here over the past 6 years off & on, at times the food has been good, today it was awful. Let's start out by saying the jelly that was offered was apple butter & orange marmalade. I asked for other flavors and she said she would look, makes you think they are down to the least favorite flavors. The waitress did bring blackberry back. Honestly been coming here since I was born 1-2 times a year to come visit family. The staff has been nothing but welcoming to us. They love my grandma and grandpa dearly and walk them out to their cars every time they come. Such a cute little diner. Very good for breakfast for when I leave up north in the mornings. I'm sure we've all heard the rumors about the filth of this restaurant. The infamous reused bread baskets, and the sexist pig running the place, but it doesn't stop there. I stopped going there because aside from always getting some kind of hair in my food (which was probably chest hair on the account of Mr. Piggy always having his chest hair exposed) the last time I was there, my food was absolutely horrible. It tasted like it was dropped on the floor and then dunked in the grease trap for "flavor." The party I was with was also unhappy with their meals. We probably would have been better off digging through the dumpster. At least it would have been cheaper. I remember when I was younger, I went there to apply for a job. I was told not to bother because I would be miserable there. Everyone I've talked to, who has had personal experience working there (especially females) say that the owner is horrible to them. I honestly do not understand how this place is still in business. The only thing I can figure is that there's some kind of dirty business going on with the health department. Went up north last week-end to see my mother and auntie in Jamieson Nursing Home in Harrisville, Michigan. Me, my sister, and my great niece went up north and had a great time. But, Sunday morning we decide to go out to breakfast. We passed by Mama's Kitchen and both me and my sister have eaten here before. The Mama is big Greek older man - no Mama involved in this restaurant. I see that they have Potato Pancakes on their menu - ah, haven't had these in years and so I decide on that. My niece has a 1/2 order of pancakes and a 1/2 order of something else. My sister gets this skillet menu item with onions, eggs, potatoes, and I don't know what else along with the Rye toast. My potato pancakes arrive, OMG, they look like the hash browns from McDonalds! So, in other words they were not freshly made - they were out of the freezer section and ordered or bought at the local supermarket. I was very disappointed, oh well, it's only food! My sister is eating her food and she said the best part of her breakfast was the Rye Toast! My niece was, I think, satisfied with her plate. So, I will NEVER order their potato pancakes again and probably I will go back, simply because this is close to the nursing home and not disgusting, like I told my sister, "at least we didn't get sick"!!! read more

I was disappointed to see some 1 star reviews of this place. It was a great experience for my family and I. We were camping in Harrisville and decided to come down to this place for breakfast. It was jam packed - LITERALLY - there were no booths open. One of the waitresses clean off a table quick for us after the family eating there finished. Service was nice and fast, the food was really good, and we went back to camp happy. Now I just want to say I know with covid still going around places are super short staffed, so going into a place to eat on Labor Day I expected delays and to just be patient. But the staff as a whole had zero sense of urgency, and even from just standing inside waiting to be seated you could tell they were super unorganized and not communicating. Once we had sat down and ordered our food and drinks we noticed a continuous theme: waitresses not being very attentive and hair in damn near everything. Once we were served, all we had at our table was salt and pepper. We needed ketchup and syrup, but after waiting 10 for our waitress to acknowledge us while our food is getting cold, we just went up to the station ourselves to grab what we needed. Once we got the check, we waited 20+ minutes to be cashed out. While waiting, the couple in front of us were given the wrong check, and multiple staff members just walked away and had zero interest in resolving the issue. It wasn't until they threatened to just leave and not pay until they cared to resolve the issue. Moral of the story: this place sucks. You'd be better off going to the McDonald's down the road and probably treated better too. If you like hair in your food and being ignored by staff, this is your kinda place. read more
