Our first time eating here. It was ok but not worth the money or worth going back. The drive thru menu board was clean and clear. Easy to read. Ordering was a snap. Very friendly staff. Service was pretty good. They made my food quick so it was hot and fresh. I was let down by the quality of the burgers. The buns were very thin, maybe they smashed them but way too fragile and I couldn't pick up my burger without it falling apart. Flavor was decent, nothing to set it apart from any other burger place. Honestly, for the amount this meal cost me, I could've gotten better food at a much better price at McDonald's. It was "ok" but. It worth the price tag. Won't be back.

A random stop for us on a road trip. Had never heard of it and didn't know what to expect...but you usually can't go wrong with burgers! There was a line of about 5 customers when we arrived, but the cashier was fast and efficient. We received our order quickly and all was accurate. Definitely a fast food restaurant vibe with booth seating inside. They have the original menu on the wall...interesting to see how prices have changed. Great food! Burgers were tasty and filling. But the onion rings were definitely the most talked about item!! The grilled chicken sandwich was good, as well as the French fries. We enjoyed our quick stop while passing through!

What can I say about this place: it's classic American style cheeseburgers and rings with a shake. Then you throw in the convenience of fast food-it's awesome!! Today I ordered a side of Big Boy sauce and decided to use it with both my double cheeseburger and onion rings. Well dang, now I gotta cut my calories rest of the week. But it's so worth it! If you want one of the best cheeseburgers in KC (and the best onion rings I've ever had) you came to the right place. Well done Big Boy! Big Boy also hosts car shows and has a great desert menu. Their staff have always been friendly and helpful when I've worked with them. You can't go wrong here!

I love the orings here they are some of the best in the country and that is a small order. I am a fan of the pork tenderloin and their shakes . I try to limit myself to only once a month here as they provide plently of calories in their meals . I hope they comtinue to thrive and were busy when I was there . Big Boy's Restaurant has been at the same location since 1962. It's served Independence as a great stopping spot to grab a cheeseburger and also a shake. I'm vegetarian, but I love this place...which makes me not much of a faithful vegetarian. The sandwiches are large, with an over-sized hamburger, (I order my cheeseburgers plain). The French fries are crunchy, and one receives an ample amount. What totally nips it in the bug are the onion rings. OMG...my favorite item on the entire menu. They are not frozen,but made from scratch, and are large, and I can't rave on them enough. You can smell the onion rings outside. The other menu items are tenderloins, hot dogs, fish sandwich (another of my favorite, as I try to stay away from beef as often as I can). They have the best tarter tots ever.They have a children's menu,and Jr. sized sandwiches. The shakes are so good. They are one of the best shakes in the Independence area. The cyclone shakes with Butterfingers or Oreos beg to be ordered. The shakes come in a variety of flavors. The restaurant also serves ice cream sundaes and ice cream cones. Let's talk about the cherry limeaides! Perfectly mixed, and you know when you order a cherry lime aide, and you drink it to the bottom , and there's no cherry or lime in it? Not so with Big Boy's cherry limeaides. The half of a lime is in the bottom of the glass. The cherries are also in the bottom of the glass. When ordering, you order,and wait for the meal. They have a drive through that, every single day at noon is backed up clear to 40. highway. But don't let this cause you to go somewhere else. The staff are efficient, and the line moves quick. The bathrooms are clean, and the restaurant is bright. The food is a bit higher priced than fast food chains. It is worth it.

After decades of going here. The new owners are not living up to the tradition that I was accustom to. The lobby has remained closed, with the constant excuse of can't hire people, but no help wanted sings anywhere. It is parking lot dining only. Living off the past reputation, will only take you so far. The food quality has gone down also, while the price goes up. The staff used to be so friendly, not so now. read more

Real old-world style hamburger joint. Customer service is good and the burgers are fantastic, no pre-made beef patties. The inside is clean and tidy although I normally use their drive-thru. Highly recommend this place for people who love home style burgers, onion rings, or fries. They get it right! read more

We arrived at 9pm on the dot and while most places would have said we are closed they took our order and were so extremely pleasant. The Italian steak sandwich is something I can't get living in LA.l,it's so delicious with extra sauce. And get tater tots, they are the best! read more

I've been burger hopping for about 20 years and Big Boy is the shining star of burger joints. Best burger hands down. Service and atmosphere are solid. Good, bad good. As in it's tasty but so unhealthy. My hubby got me started on this place when we were dating. It's kind of a treat for us maybe once a month or every 2. The onion rings are awesome. Tends to be busy almost all the time. We do the drive-thru more often nowadays. read more

The service was great. I was met with a smile by the staff. The food was fast and the quality was good. Tom, the owner, does a great job with serving great burgers and onion rings. I recommend this joint if you feel like having a meal that's reminiscent of the 1960s. I love supporting locally owned establishments such as this one! read more

Big Boy is a burger shop. No chipolte mayo. No fancy contemporary decor, just a burger shop. The tenderloin is great. The hand made onion rings are killer. They also make the best cherry pepsi and cherry limades in town (great on a hot summer day). read more

I'd like to comment on the fries but I can't get past the onion rings. They're big and crispy and everything I want them to be. Combine that with a tenderloin and strawberry shake for that old school burger joint you want. Now if only the prices stayed the same since 1962 read more

Great old school burger joint. I am a Northlander. This food reminds me a lot of L.C.'s. Great burgers, tenderloins, fries, and onion rings. Better than any of the chains around the area. But the prices are a little bit higher also. Good, quick service also. 5 stars for food, 3 for price, 4 overall. read more

I had seen ads for Hi Boy and it looked interesting AND they had a tenderloin special - so, I was just waiting for an occasion when I was in the area. That opportunity came Sunday - seemed nice enough . . . Lots of awards on the wall - menu looked appealing, sorta retro, like an old burger joint - didn't matter, I was here for one thing - the tenderloin - and that's why it was SO disappointing! I love this place for the price. Reminds me of the Old Paul Bunyan restaurants. The ladies are usually friendly and helpful. The food is great and inexpensive. Lots of choices...like Tenderloin, Chicken, Hamburger, etc choices. Onion rings beat any other place around for the $$. Great food, and I'm going back soon. read more

This place is an Independence staple. So, that's why I gave it what I did. Other than that...Meh. We paid almost $30 for two burgers, onion rings, and dessert. In my opinion, the burger were dry and plain. The onion rings had little flavor and the breading sloughed off with every bite. Ice cream was simple and traditional. Nothing wow'ed. Sad to say, won't be going back there on purpose. read more

Had the 1/4 pound Big Boy burger with cheese. Served with tasty sauce, chopped lettuce and onion (maybe some scallions chopped in) and tomato. YUM. Also had a small fries (generous serving). They were piping hot and satisfying. This was my first visit and I went through the drive through. I will be back to check out the restaurant and to try a pork tenderloin sandwich! read more

Good enough, not great, but I'd go again. I had a half-pound Big Boy burger, small onion rings and small drink, for $11.40 (total with tax). The food was hot, I had no problem with cold food like another reviewer mentioned. I found the burger and rings to be very similar to Sonic, but Sonic tastes better on both counts and costs less. With that said, however, I would visit here again since I'm wanting to support smaller businesses, even if that means paying an extra few dollars. read more

The food here is always very good;however when I stopped in recently, the customer service left much to be desired. Employees were more interested in their personal conversations and stocking napkin holders than waiting on customers. When they finally took my order, I paid with a debit card. They were irritated that their register couldn't read the card. Finally got my order with no thank you or anything. I'll go somewhere that appreciates customers. read more

I have gone to Big Boys since I was in HS and I am now in my 60's. We love eating there. We love the tenderloins and it is the ONLY place we order onion rings as none can compare to theirs. We have never been disappointed any time we go. No cold food and good service. Also appreciate that they are closed on Sundays so the crew can go to church and relax for a day. We take our out of town guest there as well because no one is better. read more

I thought I'd stop by for a burger after work, so I decided to go through the drive-thru. Waste of time! They had a very young kid working the speaker and she was very rude, short, and spoke like I was a burden. She asked me "is that it?" after I ordered my burger. I then had to ask for fries, and was met with, "is that all." I decided not to order a drink. Instead I informed her that I would be going to McDonalds. It's employees like this that hurt small businesses. Perhaps bad training? I will not be back to this place until they appreciate the customers who keep their pay checks coming. Disgusted. read more

Ordered a couple of meals on our way through for a late lunch. The tater tots were excellent, but the fries weren't hot. We requested one 1/4 lb. burger with cheese and one without but received two cheeseburgers. I don't eat fast food as a rule I don't care for it. However I love, no I LOVE Big Boys. The onion rings and Tots are fast food heaven. You can't eat here and not get onion rings. I love the tenderloin sandwich but the Italian steak sandwich is my favorite. Did mention that this place has been around for over 40 years, I can remember visiting with my dad when i was a kid. Now that's staying power. Maybe it's all nostalgia to me - but I believe this is the BEST place for tenderloin & tater tots. Growing up in Independence this was always a treat. Family loved the Big Boys burgers, Italian steaks, tenderloins, tater tots and onion rings. It's my opinion that their tenderloin beats anyone's 'plate size' tenderloin sandwich. So whenever I'm in Independence and its meal time - you can bet I'm going to stop for T&T! read more

The second time I ordered the same four tenders they automatically assumed I wanted a combo when I asked if it came with fries (the combo is over $10). I just ordered the four tenders, but they were still awesome, and they came with a biscuit. They cook everything to order, so be prepared to wait a few minutes. And don't bother phoning in an order, because they won't start preparing it until you get there and pay.

The chicken wraps were flavorful, fresh, and filling without being too heavy, and the fish was cooked just right--crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. You can tell they put effort into making things taste homemade rather than rushed. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, making it a good spot to sit down and enjoy a meal without feeling hurried. Service was also solid--friendly, attentive, and everything came out in a reasonable time. Overall, this location really delivered on both quality and experience. My experience definitely exceeded the average Yelp rating. The food was solid and we had good service. They were extremely busy, but the bartender/server ordered a round of rolls on the house for the bar area for the long wait. It is a bit loud inside if that's not your thing, and there are TVs that were playing college basketball. I'm often in the area for KC Mavs games and would not hesitate to return.

Very disappointed that the restaurant closed early on a weekday. We called at 7:30 and asked how late they were open (thinking 8) and was happy to find out that they were there till 9. We were on our way back to Independence from Harisonville and only go to this location. When we arrived at 8:25, the lights were out and there were two employees walking out. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. I called the next day and the explanation I got was if it's too cold, sometimes they close early. The manager did apologies but it felt less than sincere. The consistency of the restaurant hours is very important for returning customers, especially if we call and drive an hour with that type of restaurant in mind. Best burger for the money in Raytown! I always get the half pound double and a large onion ring, reminds me of the burgers I ate from Friche's big boy in my home state of Kentucky! Especially when I get it only tartar sauce and extra pickle. It may sound weird and they may look at you funny, but I strongly suggest it! My wife always gets the pork tenderloin sandwich with extra sauce and it's her favorite spot to get a P.T. sandwich. read more
