Great place for homestyle burgers! Been going here for years now. Bacon cheeseburgers are awesome! They use thick cut bacon and plenty of it. Not just two thin strips like other places. The last time I went was yesterday. They just raised their prices a bit from what they were since before the pandemic. This is understandable since everywhere is doing so. But they did not reduce their potion size or quality of their food. Still worth it! read more

Long review: for the many of you that have watched ABC's 'Parks and Recreation', there was an episode where Ron Swanson and Chris Traeger have a burger cook off to decide who's burger is better. Chris creates and extremely well thought out gourmet burger complete with Papaya Chutney, Truffle Aioli, and Microgreens, while Ron makes "a hamburger. Made out of meat. On a bun. With nothing. Add Ketchup if you want, I couldn't care less." Big Burger V's food is the PERFECT representation of Ron's burger. There are no bells. No whistles. No frills. No showmanship of any kind. They don't use any fancy ingredients, no new fangled cooking methods. When you order a bacon cheeseburger, you will get a burger with bacon, cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, and onion. That's it. Romaine lettuce? Nah, too fancy. Iceberg all the way, baby. I'm by no means saying the food is bad, because it is not. It is perfectly pleasant to eat. But you won't be wowed by anything either. It really depends on what type of food you like. If you consider yourself a foodie, and enjoy the gourmet side of things with ingredients you can't pronounce, this probably won't cut it for you. This is an A-OK non-chain burger. It's in a location without a lot of other options. It's always good. For me, I didn't think the shakes were special. Service is slow - so expect that - things are made to order. I've found fries and onion rings to be inconsistent from day to day. read more

Love this place. Best place to get a burger and fries on the north side of Houston. This little burger shack is located on the west side of the Hardy Toll Road, just south of Little York Rd. Don't let the appearance of this place fool you, they serve some mean burgers. The onion rings are also really good. I've heard the Gyro sandwich is good but we prefer either the cheese burger or chili- cheese burgers. The crinkly fries are also so crisp and so very good. read more

This place reminds me of Lia's Drive-In on Homestead, when Lia's was run by the family who opened the restaurant. Turns out, some nice Greek people own/run Big Burger V. So far, all we have had are double-meat cheeseburger baskets and the Gyro dinner baskets. We order our gyro dinners with extra meat and an extra pita bread. They give you PLENTY of tzatziki sauce (creamy cucumber/yogurt sauce) without you having to ask for extra. It's a good value paying a bit more for the extra meat. You can definitely snack on the meat and still make two generous sandwiches out of what is left. The onion and tomato that they serve on the side is also plenty enough for two sandwiches. The dinner basket comes with the entrée, a big helping of fries and then salad. I ask for my salad dressing on the side, otherwise, they do serve it dressed. When my son and I order from there, we aren't counting our nickels and dimes. We order what we want, aren't afraid of paying for extras--because we don't eat out often. But let me tell you, the amount of food you get is well worth the cost. Also, I call in my order before making the drive to pick it up. I usually only have to wait 5 or so minutes for my food to be ready. We've tried ordering there at the restaurant and waited for it. It wasn't an outrageous wait time since everything is being prepared to order. And there are *ALWAYS* a parking lot full of cars--which is a good sign that the food is great. I would like to explore their menu more, but when you have a favorite, and you know it is always on point, it's hard to stray from the usual. read more

Mom and Pop run and family oriented. This joint has the BEST ice cream Sundays ever and the Shrimp plate is to die for. It can get busy at times, so I always call my order in over the phone that way it will be ready when I arrive. This is Not a fast food joint so do not expect your order to be precooked and served with in a few minutes like McDonald's; there a small waiting period while they cook and prepare and well worth the wait! read more

I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. Saw the reviews on Yelp that looked great. Ordered a cheeseburger, strawberry shake and onion rings. All 3 were hyped by reviews. Burger was ok but certainly nothing special. Shake was good. They used strawberry syrup so there was no strawberries harmed in making this product. Would have preferred to have some chunks of strawberry. Onion rings were pretty bad. Oil tasted old and the rings were super greasy. Maybe it was a bad day. What a disappointment after reading current reviews. If I had to choose this or fast food, I would choose the latter. Ketchup-- what kind of burger place gives you 3 tiny ketchup packets and tells you that is enough for a bacon double cheeseburger and onion rings? When I requested more, I was told I already had 3 whole packets and would need to pay if I wanted more. You have got to be kidding me . . . Sure, I eat more ketchup than your average burger enthusiast, but come on--the last time I was charged for ketchup was in Europe. The Burger-- bun was fine, lettuce and tomato were good. The essence of the burger, the patty, was a complete let down. I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger and there was hardly any meat on it. The meat that was present was horribly overcooked and very tough. The patties were packed way too tightly which only contributed to the absolute fiasco. Onion Rings-- execution was actually pretty good and the onion rings were crunchy; however, the batter was a little to pancake-like for my taste, but overall a valiant effort. It is too bad I had to leave 5 uneaten because I ran out of freakin' ketchup. Milk Shake--the shakes are made with soft serve and are below average. Atmosphere-- Yikes. This place lost my business today. I ordered a shrimp dinner. When I arrived at home my wife took a bite of the shrimp and found hairs inside the batter. So I told my wife to give me the food so I can go get my refund. When I arrived at Big Hairy Burger V the only thing the manager or owner said that they have been in business for 40 Years. Maybe your old ass should get your staff to wear hair nets. Nasty, dirty and disgusting. I will never go back to this place again. I won't recommend this filthy place to anyone. Tried this place out for the first time today, ordered a double bacon cheeseburger, buffalo chicken balls, and a shake. The burger was ok nothing extraordinary about it , reminded me of whataburger except BBV's bacon is a lot thicker and crispier. The BCB were good would definitely come back for those , the shakes weren't anything special either.. Overall not bad but not great read more
