    Half rack of spare ribs
    Danielle W.

This a review of the to-go meals I've had and the pick up experience. I went on a Sunday afternoon and had no trouble parking as they have a small lot. There is also plenty of street parking. There's plenty of indoor dining but also a cute outdoor dining space. I could smell the smoke from the grill, which is right out front, and it smelled good (great sign). I ordered the spare rib dinner with fries and coleslaw. I always get my sauce on the side so you'll note they're not sauced in my pics. I also ordered the southern fried catfish meal with black eyed peas and mac & cheese. The ribs were very, very good. The flavor on them was great without sauce (which is key to real bbq to me). Don't get me wrong, the sauce on the side was very good too. The catfish was really good too. I pinched a piece before I took the pic because it was so crispy looking it called my name - oops. It was lightly cornmeal coated and fried nicely without being overcooked. The black eyed peas were some of the best I've had in a long time. It was so easy to go in and place a take out order and didn't take long for the food to be ready. The people who took my order and gave me my food were extremely nice (perhaps the owners?). I'd definitely go back and try some other menu items too! I have my eye on the burger...

I've only ordered carry-out once, but was pleased enough with my experience that I plan to go back. They have moved to 2730 N. Humboldt Blvd, and I submitted the update to Yelp for address, phone, and hours. The web address is still correct, but the hours on the website are not, so I pulled that from their Facebook page. They started offering brunch on Saturdays recently, so the brunch hours are included on the Facebook page and not the website, so I know Facebook page hours are correct. Anyway, I ordered fried chicken with mac-n-cheese, cornbread, and fries. The chicken and cornbread were excellent. Great texture on the cornbread, and the chicken was crisp and nicely seasoned. The chicken was available in thighs, legs, and wings only, which I'm fine with because I find chicken breat is too easy to dry out, so white meat fans will not find what you want for chicken here, but I prefer dark meat for chicken (and turkey) because it tastes better to me (and everyone else I know), so I was happy with the options. The seasoned fries were fine but didn't travel well, and the mac-n-cheese was fine, but I prefer more salt or a seasoning blend. Maybe they can offer an option with a seasoning blend. It could even be the blend they use in the chicken batter. I will definitely be back to try some of the BBQ dishes and I'd gladly order the chicken and cornbread again!

Cool little spot in an unlikely location, with plenty of space and outdoor seating. I also saw a big grill out front, but it didn't look like it was being used. I'm not sure if that's just for deco... It would've been cool to walk in past a grill smoking and putting out deliciousness (like Hawthorne Coffee Roasters had back in the day when they had the BBQ). The place already had a few customers when I went at 4pm on a weekday. There was a couple dining in, another lady in line ordering, and more coming in as waited for the food. I ordered half slab of spareribs, a dinner with rib tips, and gumbo (which comes with a piece of cornbread, I was told 3 times, with pride). They gave me a pager, and I waited outside with another customer, who was very nice and talkative. She told me she'd been here a few times, but that she liked another place down in Brookfield. Cool. I bookmarked it on Yelp to try next time lol. The half slab - I won't review this one here. Check the yelp elite experience for it. Sausage, Chicken and Shrimp Gumbo - $11 - it was nicely topped with 5 shrimp pieces, on a bed of rice and sausage and chicken. The broth was not thick, as I would expect from gumbo, but savory. Overall, it felt like too much rice, and even then, not really rice that was cooked together, but like it was separately cooked and put together later. It wasn't bad and I actually enjoyed it, but it didn't feel like gumbo. Maybe like chicken soup with added rice and sausage? And the cornbread went better with the ribs. Rib Tips - the dinner came with the tips, waffle fries, and beans. - The fries didn't travel well and was soggy by the time I got home, but interestingly, still good! It actually had good flavors and I didn't mind it being soggy at all! I would normally pop it in the air fryer for a few minutes for take out fries, and this may have been better with that, but it was still good without it. - The beans were a little sweet and went well with the meal. - The rib tips were a solid ok. I wonder if I would have liked it dry. I usually like to order the ribs dry with the sauce on the side, but just went for the whole experience this time. You can tell when the ribs are done right better if they're dry. The sauce was actually pretty spot on, though I would have preferred a little more kick over the sweet, so not quite finger licking good. The meat was tender but not quite falling off the bone, which is fine since I like me my meat textures. Overall, it's a solid 3-stars for me. I'd go back if I'm craving some ribs and don't feel like traveling for my favorite joint. But I'll definitely pass the gumbo (and cornbread). And I'll be ordering the tips dry with sauce on the side. If they'll honor it, maybe I'll ask for a double portion of fries over the beans. And I'll have some rice cooking at home if taking out, cuz the leftover ribs were really good with some white rice.

BBQ Rib Tip Dinner, Macaroni and Cheese, Candied Yams, corn bread

Been seeing more and more advertising for this restaurant and was really excited to order from them. Not too many bbq places in Milwaukee. Unfortunately this place doesn't stick out from the rest. The food overall was average, 3 stars but the portion of the sides and dessert brought it down to 2 stars. Ordered over the phone a rib tip dinner and a chicken dinner with Mac n cheese yams peach cobbler and banana pudding. Chicken skin was soggy I'm sure it would of taste much better served right away so I'm not too disappointed and rib tips were slightly tough. Mac and cheese was okay, not bad but I've had better. Let's get into the yams -no flavor not even a spec of cinnamon I was highly disappointed given yams are very easy to make and difficult to mess up unless you're just being careless. The peach cobbler and banana pudding was very good but thought for $5 there serving portion would be more. With everything said I may come back to try the jerk rib tips they sound unique and hopefully the meat next to me will not be tough. Still on the search for great bbq in Milwaukee

    Outdoor patio

Had a wonderful time eating on the outdoor patio and getting to try Big Daddy's delicious BBQ. The spare ribs were fall off the bone amazing. The BBQ sauce was on point. We also tried the jerk beef tips and fried catfish. They were both quite tasty as well. My boyfriend loved the jerk. That was his favorite. For sides we enjoyed the coleslaw, baked beans and greens. The baked beans were so delicious we went back to order more. We will definitely be back again to enjoy the beautiful outdoor patio and fantastic food!!!

Food was excellent! 1st time customer. I ordered the catfish dinner and the wing dinner. Sides were greens, yams, and Mac n cheese. We are stuffed and have leftovers for tomorrow. I will be back soon. Thank you! #buyblack

It's hard to keep a great thing a secret for too long! My go-to here is the smoked pulled chicken and I love their NC mustard sauce with it. The pork here is also amazing and I've yet to have a side I didn't like. Portions are a good size too and in-line with the prices. The old-fashioned is also tasty and a solid choice to round out your meal. Service is always fast and food is consistently good. I'm already looking forward to our next visit but as they've become busier, I wish there was a waitlist option. If you're lucky, you could catch their food truck out and about as well to get a taste of their menu! Yum!

It's open Tuesday-Saturday for lunch and dinner. Parking is on the street and is free for 2 hours which is plenty of time to dine here. It's nice inside and has a full bar. I ordered the Smokehouse Half Chicken platter for $18. It came with cole slaw, cornbread and one of their side dishes. I chose the Smokehouse Beans and it took about 10 minutes for the meal to arrive. While I waited I checked out the 4 sauces that were on the table and liked the KC mild the best. When the food arrived I noticed the large 1/2 chicken and the sides. The chicken was juicy and delicious with a smokey flavor. Paired with the KC mild sauce, it was yummy (4). Yes, their chicken is very good but it was the side dishes that really impressed me. The beans were rich in flavor and savory. Perfect (5). The cole slaw was creamy and smooth tasting making an excellent palate cleanser (5). The cornbread was soft and warm with that original cornmeal aroma (5). And finally, I ate the 2 pickle slices added on the plate. Fresh tasting with a firm texture and perfect flavor (5). The table service by Maxie was friendly and efficient. I wish I could have had one more meal here to test other menu items before giving this score. My experience has found that many bar b q restaurants prepare very good meats but it's their side dishes that make some of them stand out. The chicken was very good and I would order it again but the side dishes really impressed me. Even the pickles! For those reasons, I give Double B's a 5 score. This is as good as it gets.

The guy working the counter was doing a great job and gave me a rib tip sample that was delicious. I ordered the rib dinner that comes with two sides for $20, unfortunately they were out of greens so Mac and beans would be my sides. I always say if you smell smoke/grill in the air outside it's most like going to be good and I smelled the grill as I walked up, not a wood smoke smell. My rib dinner looked good that was only 5 bones with a nice bark. The ribs were moist/tender fall odd the bone with a backyard grill flavor, not a wood smoke flavor. The rids were delicious and tasty with the seasoned rub. The beans were good but very sweet. The Mac and cheese was over cooked to mush, not Al dente and slightly creamy with a small cheese flavor topped with cheese. The Mac and cheese could have been seasoned better like the ribs but still good. Overall I had a great lunch and I like the grill flavor because most places use wood smoke so I like this style to break up bbq from time to time. I would definitely stop back for more of the menu.

They haven't been open long, so be patient as they work to get into a groove. I've had their brisket, pulled pork, rib tips, baby back ribs, chicken, and sausage and all have been delicious! I still want to try their smoked turkey and turkey leg, but their meats have been among the best BBQ I've had! The chicken, in particular far exceeded my expectations! Their sides are solid. I noticed an improvement in texture with the baked beans feom the first visit to most recent visit, but I liked the mac-n-cheese better on the first visit. It was creamier and better seasoned the first time. Their creamy Cole slaw and greens were other sides I enjoyed. The fries and potato salad were good, but didn't stand out to me. They did not have cornbread on the menu. You can order sandwiches, dinners, or 2 and 3-meat combos. Important things to note: 1. They have a dining room. 2. They will put sauce on most, if not all, of their smoked meats, so if you want no sauce or sauce on the side, then tell them when you order. I am a smoked BBQ purist. I want to taste the rub and their smoking method. Their sauce is good, but their meats are great and don't need sauce. 3. They don't have a website, and it's not easy to find their menu on their Facebook page. 4. They are open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner. 5. They accept cash and cards. Definitely check this place out because their BBQ is really good! I will be back!
