At the completion of a Costco trip with friends, we decided to have lunch at Big Dawgs. One of my friends is an east coast Italian and the business name caught his eye! The lady behind the counter greeted us promptly. She was very friendly and attentive. The lady gave us recommendations, which turned out to be spot on what we were looking for! We all had the Italian beef and sausage combo. I got mine plain, but my buddy got his with the works, baptized in gravy. His wife for something in the middle. The sandwichs came out in a short time and were hot. The Italian beef and sausage were very tasty. The portion size was just right for the price. We all were satisfied with the size of the sandwichs and struggled to finish the last bites because we were full. Huge portions. The sausage was tasty. The Italian beef was piled high. The beef was tender, but not as quite as flavorful as I hoped. But it's not commercial Vienna beef or Buona in bulk. We love a good Chicago dog and these are the best ever! We've eaten many including much time in Chicago and Tucson Luke's going back 25 years. A+ to Big Dawgs, the hotdog and pickle spear are a good size, the green relish, chopped onions and celery salt, assembled to exceed expectations. My wife & I visited Big Dawgs on their grand opening weekend (June 20-22, 2025). I ordered the Italian Beef - wet with cheese and hot peppers. My wife ordered the pastrami sandwich. We shared. The bread for the Italian beef got a bit soggy, but that's what happens when you order an Italian beef 'wet'. The cheese could have been more pronounced and the giardiniera was a bit heavy on the green bell pepper, but the sandwich was very tasty overall. The pastrami sandwich did not skimp on the pastrami. There was a choice of regular or spicy mustard. My only note on this sandwich was that they could have been a bit more generous with the mustard. Other than that, it was the best pastrami sandwich I've had in quite a while. We didn't order a Chicago dog, any drinks (besides water) or side dishes (fries, fried zucchini, etc.) so we'll have to go back another time to try those out. read more

Ordered takeout from Big Dawgs: the Italian Beef, Beefcake Ribeye, Italian Sausage and fried zucchini. Sandwiches were ordered dry with the Aus jus on the side. Overall, we all loved our sandwiches and will gladly dine here again. The beef was moist and flavorful, and the sandwich was packed full. The staff working were very friendly and clearly happy and excited to be there, another plus is our food came out very fast. Great for a quick lunch. Our only critique is with the sandwich bread-- the outside of the bread was a bit tough, and the inside of the bread soaks in the Aus jus so well, that it quickly starts to get too soggy to hold together. I know some of the other reviews mention the same issue... perhaps it's just a preference thing, but the restaurant is new so maybe the owners will read these reviews and make a change in the future. As I said, we won't let soggy bread get in the way of enjoying another meal here. We will happily frequent this restaurant and are thankful to have this in the area. Support local! read more

Lived in Chicago area for six decades. Al's, Portillo's,Buena Beef, Luke's,Scatchells, Freddie's, Carm's-had them all, again and again. Tried Big Dawgs yesterday, Got to Luke's and Lucky's before they closed for good on Thornydale. Big Dawgs gives you lots of beef. Price comparable to Portillo's Big Beef. Crinkle fries ordinary and taste like they were fried right out of the freezer bag. Not overpriced at $4. Ordered juice on the side but the bread collapsed anyway from the weight of the meat. I ate half the sandwich with a fork. I ordered hot.sweet peppers; very sparse on the sweet and overloaded with giardiniera.. This brings me to the big gripes. While no one could question the meat volume, it was barely seasoned. Even dipping the meat into the juice did little. The "hot" was the biggest flaw. It was a sea of diced bell peppers and the peppers appeared raw and crunchy. It also contained whole green olives. Never saw that before? I wanted it to be great. It would save me 25 miles total rather than Portillo's. If Portillo's is a 9.5, Big Dawgs is a max 6 and only because of the meat portion. Tweak the seasoning, Go to Rosati's and buy jars of their Giardiniera and you'll be fine. Find better fries, too. Tab was $21 and change. read more

It's very expensive to eat there, but the roast beef sandwiches are the second best in town. The first basket is Luke's on Alvernon this place is pretty damn close. It's 1050 to get packed with meat. The flavor is excellent so our juice is perfect. Been getting a beef a week. If anything its just gotten better. The beef is consistent week to week. There are two (or more?) types of beef. There is the thin sliced kind that I'm more familiar with the old Luke's (Ft. Lowell, Swan, this location). They seem to be putting out a fall apart version.
