This was my first disappointing meal in Tucson. My friend and I drove out of our way to eat here after a hike in Painted Hills. I was so disappointed when the cashier told me they were out of chicken. OUT OF CHICKEN?! It wasn't even 2pm yet and the Pats hadn't yet destroyed the Broncos and the cheesesteak place was out of chicken. If I hadn't been with my friend who was looking forward to his beef cheesesteak, I would have walked out. There are plenty other good places to eat on Ina Rd. I eventually ordered a 12 inch beef cheesesteak with shrooms, onions and sweet peppers. The cashier asked if I wanted jalapeños as well. I replied that they don't belong on a cheesesteak, not a real South Philly cheesesteak. My few shrooms and sweet peppers were an additional $3. Ouch. Peppers come with a real cheesesteak; there should not be an additional charge. Service was fast and the kitchen crew was especially efficient. Everyone working kept the place clean. Ambiance is also nice. It's got a Philly sport bar vibe to it, with Philly banners on the wall and TVs high up in all directions. There are also eight craft beers on tap but I had a $3.49 Coke Zero instead. When my insanely overpriced $23 chickenless cheesesteak arrived, I was again disappointed in the lack of flavor. I tasted no spice in the beef. The bread was not fresh, either. I should have ordered Cheese Wiz instead of natural Provolone because the chemicals in that orange concoction would have added some flavor My friend liked his cheesesteak but added that the place in Sierra Vista makes a much tastier cheesesteak than Frankies, for half the price. At least I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. If it weren't for the incredible kitchen crew and the fast service, this place would have gotten only two stars. read more

We tried takeout for the first time here and we had mixed reviews! The kids and my fiance ordered plain steak with cheese and alone the steak was dried out and not great, none of them finished their sandwiches. I however ordered mine with mushrooms, onions and peppers and it was DELICIOUS and moist, 10/10. Everyone who tried mine was jealous and agreed it was amazing. Maybe the addition of those ingredients added the much needed moisture? Not sure....but based off my order I would absolutely go back. Based off theirs, I wouldn't. Great cheesesteaks, great ambience and friendly people. The service is good and the food comes out pretty quick. Lots of TVs. No matter where you sit you will have a good view of the game. Fountain drinks are easy to access with free refills included. I don't drink alcohol but if you do they have a full bar. There is no ambiance, so go for the cheesesteaks not the vibe; although it is a good alternative on Eagles game days rather than driving to the Rock Bar in Scottsdale to be with other Philly fans. The food here is consistently good and well prepared. I have been multiple times and the quality has always been solid. The ambiance is decent and comfortable, making it a good spot to sit down and enjoy a meal. Customer service has never been bad during any of my visits and the staff has always been polite and attentive. I've not been to Philly. I'm not a fan of the Eagles. I kinda like the original Rocky movie. Do I love Frankie's South Philly Cheesesteaks? Why, yes I do. We were frequent visitors to the old Campbell location and were sad when they left. The Ina location isn't the most convenient for us but we still make the trip for those delicious cheesesteaks. The meat is always tender and delicious, the roll is soft and yummy, the hot and sweet peppers just spicy enough to give the sandwich a kick and that Cheez Whiz....OH THAT CHEEZ WHIZ. It totally makes the sandwich and I wouldn't want it any other way. We always order the fries with Whiz as well and end up fighting over the last bit of Whiz, LOL. I like that there is a full bar at the Ina location and they have some tasty brews on tap. Service is always pleasant and helpful. My order was simple, provolone and mushrooms. Judging from the other reviews, I think I showed up on an off day or moment. My cheesesteak was made pretty quickly and I was excited to try it, but the meat, although fresh was bland and a little dry. The cheese seemed to only be at the bottom half of the bread. I have never been to Philadelphia but I would hope the sandwiches there are just as amazing. We tried this location for the first time today after a few attempts to try it last year when they first opened. I lament that due to (probably greedy) landlords, they had to close their Campbell Ave. store because they couldn't agree on a lease. Campbell was already far away from my new digs as it is. But we happened to be 3 minutes away on some business, so my wife and I went for supper. So good. I've had other purported "famous" cheesesteaks at other places, but they are put to shame by Frankie's. Lip smacking, delicious Philly Cheesesteaks are what Frankie specializes in. Authentic, or so the Philly transplants purport. And Frankie's sides are SO GOOD. Some of the best tater tots in town. We love their fried green beans. I've had their sweet potato fries and they are excellent! Ditto for the sweet potato tater tots. And onion rings. And they have RC products--Hires Root Beer, Canada Dry Gingerale, CountryTime Lemonade, RC Cola, Seven Up. This location has a bar. I miss all the paraphernalia they had on the walls of their Campbell location. Don't get a cheesesteak anywhere else. Just come to Frankie's. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. I was a huge fan of the original Frankie's on Campbell, but finally made my way up to this location for Marana's Dine and Discover promotion. This location is big, bright and beautiful with a ton of seating. It was also spotless, with a friendly and attentive staff. The food was delicious as always, and while it doesn't photograph well, my cheesesteak with onions, mushrooms and hot peppers was perfect. I love that Frankie's offers cheese whiz as an option. The others are good (can't ever go wrong with cheese) but the whiz makes for an authentic experience. This is quite a trek for me, but I'll make sure and come back. I have missed these cheesesteaks and while there are some reasonably good alternatives in town, nothing beats Frankie's. read more

Went to Frankies on 06/19/24 for a South Philly with provolone yesterday. For those who don't know, a South Philly cheesesteak comes with broccoli rabe, (a mildly seasoned garlicky vegie delight made with broccolini). Broccolirabe is the lovely ying to the yang touch of the yummy South Philly cheesesteak sandwich. But that's not the only cheesesteak sandwich they make! Now don't get me wrong, the south Philly cheesesteak sandwich was freaking delicious and I ate it all but... the broccoli rabe part of the sandwich was absolutely microscopic. I considered calling a forensic scientist to find it for me but I was able to find DNA traces of its presence on my own! Thanks college biology classes! However, on the more positive side the meat was tender, lean (without the gristle you get at other places) and very savory and there was plenty of meat in it. The provolone was delightfully gooey and the amoroso rolls... OMG ....chef's kiss!!! The service was also efficient and speedy, the ambiance is great (casual sports bar) and the staff was welcoming and casually warm and friendly. But if you are craving the tang of broccoli rabe you may have to order 'extra' (?) or better yet you may just need to bring your own. Overall, the cheesesteak sandwiches are VERY FILLING and VERY DELICIOUS. If you're from the general Philly/Jersey area, they will definitely meet your homesick cravings. read more

I have been a few times and had good food and service. Being born right outside Philadelphia (GO EAGLES, 76'rs, Phillies and Flyers!) I was waiting for my car so I walked over from Firestone to grab a snack. I was greeted promptly and went to sit at the bar to watch a bit of sports and have a bite to eat. There were no other people in the business when I walked in, and several staff were chatting. It hurt my heart that there were no people eating, but a couple came in soon after I sat down....so that was good. I remember eating at Frankies's on Campbell and have Frankie walk around the dining room and interact with patrons. This happened numerous times when I visited, and it made visiting there ...personal and intimate. The food was good during my visit and I will always love and support Frankie's, however the "it" that makes it Frankie's was.... absent?. I am not saying this in a negative manner.....just an observation of something that is difficult to articulate. To end on a positive note, the tasty cakes they have for sale (they are made in Philadelphia).....are a nice bonus. GO EAGLES!! read more

You can tell all the cheese they use such as the cheese wiz is the real deal because of you don't use it/eat it fast it hardens quick. Which just means you have to eat it fast and enjoy it while it's hot. The bread is also the superstar it's very good consistency and not too hard and not soft or soggy. It's just the perfect combination. For covid precaution. All the workers wore their mask even when they weren't taking orders or just talking among themselves. My go to order is the south philly with whiz - a regular cheese steak with broccoli rabe. You can add onions and peppers if that's your thing. The cheesesteaks are consistently very tasty. The last two times we've been I felt like the cheese sauce was a little thin which dripped out into the basket and made for a messy sandwich. As for sides, the onion rings are super crispy and tasty as are the sweet potato fries. This is not a place for lunch if you're looking for low calories. The inside has a few booths and a number of tables. There is a bar with beer and wine if that's your thing and TV plays various sports. Service has always been fast and friendly. Can't believe I moved to Marana officially one year ago and never to this place. I love cheese steaks - and this place has the coolest vibe. Staff guided me on what to order as I was a newbie. Super patient and laid back with me - solid suggestions. Sandwich came out perfect temperature- hot but ok to eat (nailed that). Bun was light and cheese stringy. I wussed out on the hot peppers - maybe next time. Meat was not fatty. Sandwich went down surprisingly light for something that I've normally characterized as a heavy product. And they have old school RC which I love! I also noticed they have a full bar in the back. When I was there it had a few regulars that seem to be having a good time.
