I found out about Big Dom's through Instagram -- the adorable piano, letter board menu, and the fact that the bagels looked absolutely *delicious* sucked me in from the start. So, when I found myself passing through Cary, I knew I needed to stop. As a former NY-er (like all transplants around here), I was excited to go. But, with it being the first week of business, there are a few downfalls: BAGEL: Super rubbery, like one commenter stated, but had that crusty, full bodied bagel taste that I've only been able to get in Connecticut. The bagel was fairly priced, although $2 for cream cheese is a lil ridiculous SPACE: The space is CUTE but there is no room. Pictures make it look to be a bit bigger than it is. No one can tell who ordered or where to stand. It's messy. WAIT: 10 minutes but that is to be expected. EFFICIENCY: Not efficient at all. At allllll. It takes 2 minutes to put cream cheese on a bagel, 2 seconds to throw plain bagels in a bag. They need to hire more people in the back, for sure. Although I was fine with waiting, other people were not, and got angry that customers who arrived there after them were being served their food, first. There needs to be a better disclaimer about how long the bagel sandwiches will take (or the cashier needs to be better at explaining this). FYI: they run their eggs through an oven, not a flat top grill. BOTTOM LINE: Worthy trying, if you're a bagel aficionado like myself, but don't go out of your way to try Big Dom's if you live in Raleigh or not close to the location. Stick to your local bagel shop, but give them time to work out their kinks! read more

Truly delicious Bagels. Love the smaller menu and choice of sandwiches and spreads. Please note space inside is limited but there are some really nice benches outside and one small table. Ordered 5 bagel sammies all were toasted perfectly and delicious. The everything bagel is really delicious, the egg part of the bacon, egg and cheese bagel was fantastic, very much like a thick omelet. Lox were plentiful and it was nice to get a perfectly ripe slice of tomato. read more

I was very excited to try this new bagel shop. It's located in downtown Cary near the owner's pizzeria, Pizzeria Faulisi. The shop is small and standing room only on the inside with two benches outside, so it's definitely a take-out place. I ordered a toasted plain bagel with cream cheese. First off, I have to say the cream cheese is very delicious, creamy and flavorful, and you get plenty of it. The bagel is good, but different from what I'm used to. I have had bagels in Montreal at the old bagel shops and also in NYC at the classic shops. I wouldn't really call this a cross between the two. It reminded me more of a cross between a croissant and a bagel. While not exactly the consistency of a bagel, it was good and definitely a welcome addition to the Triangle food scene. Very disappointed. Went in and wanted egg and cheese bagel not toasted. Told egg was cooked one hour ago. And they couldn't make it that way. I don't we will be back. Husband said coffee was really bad. read more

Maybe they'll get better. I stopped in on the second weekend it was opened. #1 they cashier was the worst. Slow and she seemed to be doing everything while a huge team worked in the back. My order was simple, everything bagels were OUT so I had sesame with butter. and a coffee. The wait to order was long (as explained earlier by other reviewers, the line situation is pretty horrible) and then how long can it take to make a buttered bagel? Well I stood there fro about 10 minutes til I finally got a bag handed to me with my flat bagel. Where's my coffee? Oh , she remembers and hands me a cup (like could have done WHEN I ordered) . And I pump my coffee myself from a carafe. The coffee was OK. The bagel, disappointing. Flay flat flat, flat not crunchy and chewy. I'll try them one more time, but otherwise I'm getting bagels at NYBD or Cup A Joes. Both are cheaper and better. read more

Dissapointed. Went in there on a Saturday morning and my friend and I were the only ones in line. I ordered an iced coffee and 2 bagels. Total was 14$. Cinnamon sugar was delicious, the everything was mediocre. The iced coffee was not fresh but sour and bitter. No matter how much cream and sugar added it was still disgusting. Had to throw the whole thing out. Not to mention I saw 4 other people tossing theirs out as well. We waited 15 minutes and witnessed multiple orders being messed up. Wont be back. read more

We tried a donut today too and it was yummy. I was sad to not see the smoked salmon schmear today as that is my usual go-to but I asked if I could make a special order for it ahead of an occasion and they said to reach out. The ham and swiss bagel is one of the best sandwiches I have had in my whole life. Not to be missed. That sauce is epic, and the melding of the whole thing together on an amazing bagel is just a slice of heaven. My kids love the pickle cream cheese, and the unicorn one as well. I think the bagels are great; I love a good, hearty bagel and though I've only had the plain so far (brought home by my husband on a early morning run), it toasted nicely at home. I saved one in its bag for the next day, and it was still chewy and fresh-tasting. Looking forward to trying more, especially the sandwiches. Welcome addition to the neighborhood! read more

Best bagels ever! We drive past four other bagel shops on our way from Apex just to come here. Also surprisingly one of the best places to get drip coffee and buy coffee as they carry B+W Coffee. The everything bagel has so much topping you can't even see the top and the cheese bagels will drip through your bag with juicyness. read more

We've had the Asiago bagel with piles of bacon on it, which was delish, and I had the cinnamon sugar bagel toasted with butter on it, which was quite good. The bottom of the bagel didn't have much cinnamon sugar flavor, but I added a bit of my own, and that was quite good. read more

Love their bagels and bagel sandwiches - some of the best we've ever had. I knocked off a star for service. We've been ordering here for months and while most of the time we pick up our order without a hitch, there have been a handful of times where our order was missing something or wrong. We have called to let them know, and a couple times it couldn't be corrected because they were out of bagels. read more

Update: The owner Zach quickly responded to an email I sent through their website, apologizing and authorizing a refund. Hopefully this glitch in the ordering/pick-up situation gets fixed, especially if they plan on selling out daily (which they do). Maybe there's a way to put inventory counts on products daily? I'll just roll the dice with what's on the shelf next time. _____I've been really satisfied with my experiences up until today- happily making the drive from Raleigh, praising the bagels/donuts on social media, and recommending to friends. Last time I was in, I missed out on some items that had sold out and the cashier suggested I order online in advance next time. Well, I did that. I placed an order for a family gathering (paid in advance and submitted phone number/email/etc) and drove all the way out there. I said my name and the cashier handed me my bag. I walked out and noticed the bag was light. I checked further and we were missing the donuts- the main reason we drove out there. I showed the cashier and she said, "oh I meant to tell you.. we sold out before you even placed your order." Why the heck didn't someone call and let me know before I drove 20 minutes out of the way? Am I getting refunded for the missing items? If I hadn't opened the bag in the parking lot, I wouldn't have known anything until I was home. Good donuts/bagels, but there's a definite issue with communication. I'll happily reconsider my review if someone contacts me to let me know efforts are being made to solve these gaps in customer service. Really bummed about this. read more

The "bagels" weren't bagel-like at all, more like thick toasted bread. None of the lovely bagel taste and chewiness that makes a good bagel! The food lacked flavor and was really bland and oily. The first time I tried this bagel shop, they charged me $8.10 for a bagel with cream cheese, I usually go to NYBD for my bagel with onion bacon and cream cheese which I pay about $6 The bagel here was chewy and kind of under cooked. I always give a places 2 try's in this case, I was thinking it was the first week and they needed to get out any kinks out. Tried it today there was about 5 people there looking at there watches and phones and talking in the parking lot on how long its taking. I asked for a everything bagel with bacon cream cheese and onion, sorry we do not have onions, please ask your manager, no we do not have onions, ok Ill have a ET bagel with cream cheese and bacon, ok that will be $9.20. A little less than impressed with Big Dom's. I went in this morning at 8:15 for a bacon, egg and cheese bagel and was told I couldn't order eggs because they weren't ready. The guy in the back standing there couldn't drop an egg for 2 minutes on the flat top? I was the only one in there. So I ordered 3 bagels with cream cheese. They were $5 each with the cream cheese alone being $2. I felt that was a bit much. Lastly, the bagels were just not that great. They were really chewy and felt like I was swallowing bubble gum. I'd like to see this place step it up because it could be a great addition to downtown Cary. read more

I arrived at noon and only 1 person ahead of me. Unfortunately, they just ran out of everything bagels, so I had to change my choice quickly. I went with a plain with scallion cream cheese. I already had in my mind that I would add some turkey bacon once returning home. The bagel was good..loved the size, look, and texture. No complaints on the cream cheese because there was a generous amount almost enough for two bagels. The cream cheese was definitely great. I also got a donut, which I was told was plain with powdered sugar. Let me just say that I am not a fan of the donut. It definitely had a faintly taste of either allspice or nutmeg, but what stood out the most was sort of an "eggy" taste.. I just couldn't finish. Someone else may like it though.. I'm not sure if they have any other types of donuts either. I'm just going to have to get here earlier for an everything bagel next time. read more

My boyfriend and I tried Big Dom's this weekend and had been excited to try it for a while. We were a little disappointed. After finally finding where the back of the line was, we were greeted by the girls at the front who were very friendly. We were a little shocked at the price, $2 for cream cheese is a little steep. The bagel is just as expensive as the cream cheese! $4 for iced coffee was a little pricey as well. My boyfriend had the BLT bagel and really enjoyed it. When I opened my bagel it wasn't toasted, and was a little rubbery. They forgot the cream cheese and I had to put it on top. We overheard another family get told that they sold out of their kids favorite bagels, and the kids were so disappointed. It was only 10:30 AM. Hopefully this place will work out the kinks and come down on the prices a bit! read more

This place has great food. The bagels have made me love bagels. It's a whole different experience now. and the quality of their cheese, tomatoes, or pretty much anything else is high. I'm impressed by the coffee and SUPER impressed by the tea. I wish I didn't need high quality food in my life, but I do and THIS is where I want to live. I like that they have fun schmears that can reinvent any sandwich. Now the donuts. Seriously, how can a baked donut be SO good? They taste like Christmas. I recommend everyone try it! As far as the size of the place and the wait - just embrace it for what it is...it's small but well designed and it's ten minutes of your life for great food. The bagels are good but not substantially better than other places to justify the sky high prices. You walk out feeling a little ripped off. A dollar or two less on the sandwich options would make all the difference. Once the buzz dies down, so will the customer base unless this changes. read more

Now this was a surprise, and a place that I'd love to see succeed. Locally run, solid web presence, people who seem like they genuinely do care. The rub, however, is the actual product. I'm willing to concede (hope!) that I caught them on an off day, but I was genuinely surprised at just how...pedestrian...these bagels were. I fully recognize that this is the Triangle - not Court Street in Brooklyn - but, boy, slap a blindfold on me and it would be difficult to tell the difference between these bagels and a mid-afternoon bin at a Bruegger's. In fact, I'd even say that your typical Bruegger's bagel has more character than the instantaneously forgettable everything bagel that I just had at Big Dom's. We deserve something better than Bagels Plus here in the Triangle, we really do. But, if my bagel was any indication, this just isn't the place. For now, I'm giving the remainder of the half-dozen I purchased to our carb-obsessed dog (they're just not worth the calories for this guy's gut), and I hope that I just caught them at a really bad time. If not, you'd be better off in the frozen section of your local grocery store. read more
