I had a 2007 Honda CRV with well over 200,000 miles on it and the reason it did is primarily due to keeping the car maintained at BIG-E TIRE on court street in Binghamton! At one point the car started to wear out and soon needed $1000.00 in parts every six months or so. My new wife and I decided it was time for a new Honda CRV so we traded her Civic in and I sold my CRV to one of guys working at Big-E! He and I had never seen a 2007 in such good cosmetic condition, so I am certain he will keep in running for at least another 200,000 miles! The guys were always fair with me on the costs, and I even bought tires from them in the past and got great deals and free rotations, etc... I came in due to ONE issue and said I didn't want *anything unnecessary* done to my car, that I wanted just this issue fixed. I was told I needed a whole load of things done, convinced to spend $1800, and left with the same ONE issue I came in with, causing me to break down again in the below-zero weather. After going there a second time, Big E left me with barely any gas, and a broken display in my car. When even more needed to be done and they gave me their "lowest" quote, I decided to go elsewhere. It took one phone call to find somewhere cheaper than Big Es lowest quote. Along with an inspection, and fixing anything else Big E messed up, *still* lower than Big Es quote. Don't waste your time with a second opinion, just go somewhere else in the first place. (Especially for women, elderly, and anyone else they might want to mislead and take advantage of) Edit: Big E ended up putting TWO faulty parts in my car and would not cover the cost for another shop to fix their mistake. From what I thought was very simple they found a way to mess it up. I needed 4 tires put on my truck and I specifically asked for the black wall out. I get there and the white letters are showing. I asked for them to switch it and asked for me to come back the next day. Came back for a scheduled appointment and had to wait over 2 hours to change 4 tires and they couldn't even set the tires to the right tire pressure. read more

Cost me over $400 at the dealership to fix what they broke just swapping 4 tires...told me the two non working sensors just needed to re calibrate themselves then as soon as i left the parking lot a wheel weight flew off so i looked underneath and see 4 more hammer on weights still on the same wheel...told me they have installed thousands of tires but messed up 3 out of 4 that they worked on...dont waste your time or money. My daughter took her car here yesterday for an inspection (10/21/23). It failed, she was extremely upset after being told if she keeps driving this car she'll die! Strange enough her friend took her car there a couple months ago and was told the same thing?! Fortunately in this case there's not much I can't fix so I get handed the paperwork of why it failed I pull it in the garage and start to look it over. I rebuilt a good portion of this vehicle a year ago when she bought it. Item #1 right side mirror, it's there but has a crack, still functional. #2 ebrake cable cut, no the left side broke and not a big deal it's an automatic no one uses the ebrake that's a cash grab. #3 K frame mount torn from sub body, yes this car is rusty it an 06 but I can find no signs of separation. #4 power steering leaking and needs new rack and pinion. This car has a brand new power steering pump and rack and pinion it's not leaking it has old residual fluid from when it was changed. Also told her the power steering fluid was leaking into the inner tie rod end boot. No it's full of fluid because that's how that hydraulic system works! And so what if a hanger on her muffle rusted off and has STAINLESS STEEL wire holding it in place that wire will outlast the car and hopefully this business!! Reading other reviews it seems these guys see a woman coming and it's all $$$$! You should absolutely be ashamed of yourself! And the fact that you claimed it failed emissions because of an egr valve yet there are no I repeat NO CODES!! You're trash and I hope you go out of business!! Update: took to a different garage and explained what happened they took a look at the issues that were claimed and they couldn't find the issue with the frame!! I have been a regular customer at this store for several years. The last two times I was there, front desk service kept me waiting unnecessarily for over an hour. When I pressed for reason of delay, the ole coot finally got up and went to the back. He returned to say the parts had been delayed and not there until next day. Years ago, I was what would be thought of as a loyal Big E customer; they were my go-to shop. Not anymore. For whatever reason, they've stopped looking out for their customers with regard not only to what they charge for services, but they've started being dishonest about what is and isn't legally or functionally necessary vehicles to pass inspection. DO NOT take your vehicle there and expeit to pass inspection unless it's pretty new... the items that they CLAIM cause vehicles to fail inspection are nothing more than thinly-veiled threats to get you to fork over exorbitant money for legally acceptable situations that are relatively easy to fix anyway. They're real quick to take your existing inspection sticker off the SECOND they pull your vehicle into the bay... before they let you know whatever "problem" they say that you have will result in a failing inspection. Whether this unfortunate change is due to management/ownership-dictated imperatives or just a general decline in the overall integrity of the company makes no difference to me at all. I've been lied to one time too many at this point. They will never see me at their establishments again. read more

We have taken our cars here for several years, starting when they were still Kost. When Big E bought them things changed. I had a tire sensor going off. We brought it in for repair. They said they fixed it. The sensor went off again. Brought it back, they said something else must have been the issue. Charged us to fix the issue. Well, that was not the problem either. After three attempts at repair we gave up. But that's not the worst of it. My car was due for an inspection. My husband took the car up there. They took our current inspection sticker off, even though it was not expired yet. Then they informed him that the car needed a power steering hose and said we also had a transmission hose leak. Then he said we needed a full rear break job because the pads were delaminating slightly. They failed the car and said those repairs would have to be done. The car never showed any signs of a leak anywhere. This was the weirdest bunch of stuff. I thought to myself that the car wasn't leaking when we brought it in, but I was nervous it would after he left. They said the repairs would be $1100. He took it to another shop the next day to get a second opinion. That shop said there was nothing wrong with the hoses, or brakes. It passed inspection easily. That is the last straw. I would never choose to go back. I prefer to leave positive reviews and almost never leave a negative review, but in this case I did because they are ripping people off and it's not right. read more

I had a fancy wheel job done on my car years ago, and the car would start to vibrate at certain speeds. Had the tires balanced, alignment, etc at multiple places over the years, but was never right. I was stranded with a flat tire, changed it myself and had to get back to work asap. So, I was in a hurry. I went to Monroe Auto Service and Tire Center on Court Street to get it repaired. I walked in and no one was at the counter; some guy was in the shop and saw me but ignored me and kept working; I waited 5 more minutes, but no help came. I decided that if Monroe can't even greet their customers, how much slower is their service? I left and drove down the street to the next tire place--Big E Tire. I had no previous contact with c at all. What a night and day difference! Big E Tire was modern, clean, and there were two counter people working. I was greeted by a bright, articulate, young professional, who wrote up my ticket and took my keys. They got the car in immediately. Within half an hour I was back on the road -- with NO COST to fix my flat! Seriously, no cost! Obviously, Big E Tire incurred costs to fix my flat: labor, overhead (any business in NY knows how expensive it is just to open the doors!!), the patch, etc. Big E Tire is investing in their prospective customers by showing kindness and professional service. As I left, the counter clerk said, "Be sure to bring it in for an oil change." You can bet I will repay their kindness with some of my auto maintenance business. After 45 minutes, the man who worked on my tire came and told me that there was a screw in my tire. He removed the screw, plugged it, and charged me nothing!! He apologized for my long wait. This place is amazing. I got a flat tire half way through a trip to a bachelorette party in the Finger Lakes. We were stuck 2.5 hours away from our destination. I was expecting them to try to talk me into getting a new tire and charging a lot for labor, but that was not the case. This shop is honest and kind. Not only did they fix my tire in a timely manner, they did not charge us for patching it up. Rob, the store manager was understanding and would not accept any kind of money for the service stating "they do not charge for bad days" I cannot thank you enough for your kindness. I took my car there because the engine was misfiring. They charged me for an o2 sensor and said I was good to go. Car was worse after taking it there. They then tried to tell me the catalytic converter was bad. Luckily I took it elsewhere because it was loose bolts on the intake manifold. These guys are crooks and definitely do not do good enough diagnostics because of the car is running lean you should probably check for a vacuum leak before shoving unnecessary parts down customers throats. read more

I had an appointment at 8:30 am on a Tuesday morning and showed up at 8:40. I let the guy at the desk know of my appointment and within 10 minutes they took my car back to be worked on (I needed two tires). I waited for about an hour and a half and figured they'd be done shortly. When I saw a guy that got in after me be notified on the status of his vehicle I decided to take initiative and ask when my vehicle would be finishing up (mind you this is going on two hours). I was notified that they were just finishing up and would be bringing out my car shortly. I understand that sometimes things get busy but I shouldn't have to wait 2 hours without being acknowledged. Also mind you that we're still in a pandemic and the technicians had total disregard for the mask mandate and failed to enforce it. Okay, I had a problem with my tire and it was 6:15 AM on my way to my job in Norwich and that is an hour away. Rich took me in early and found I had a nail in my tire and the man who could fix it would be in later...I sat for about 1/2 hour and was told it was fixed with no charge...They put my snow tires on and changed my oil at a very fair price! As busy as they were, they made me feel like I was the only one there! I would recommend them highly! i would never go back took truck there 1st visit i gave them a box of lug nuts told them when doing tires any lug nuts worn to replace left box on center console with 24 nuts at 4.78 ea when went to pick up box was gone when asked they used 3 but kept the rest i had to ask for them back i also told them i wanted 4 new rubber valve stems installed they did not when i went out to truck is when i found out they put the wrong tires on when went back in to tell them they said we cant change today drop back tomorrow so trip 2 i drop off tell them make sure you do valve stems this time so i go to pick up and they charge me tire tax again as they now tell me the wrong tires they put on are used now as they told me to drive home and come back tomorrow not my fault!! so i pay and go to leave i still have old valve stems !!! they now say bring back another time so drove the truck now the tires are my winter ones and bought from them with life time rotate and balance so getting them ready for this year i call as say i want to bring and have the valve stems and balance done after a little dickering back and forth about wanting to charge me for balancing them and like the 3rd time i reminded him i bought with life time balance and rotate he finally agreed to do it but it was drop off we are a couple weeks out will see if we can get to it some time never mind rob i took some other place and will pay to have it done correct thank you !! bill c read more

i had spent almost a grand on new tires, picked up my truck on a friday afternoon, a few hours prior to closing for a long weekend. when i got my truck home, 3 of the 4 tires were all but flat, i phoned them and was told it woud be thurs before they could get me in, i explained i just left them within 20 minutes prior, they said i can drop it off tues am, i did and later that afternoon when i picked it up i was told the rims were no good and id need new ones, i took one of the tires to a garage to have them see what the problem was, the rim was never cleaned and the valve stems were leaking on all 4, big e never did their full job- my rims are fine, it cost me another $100 to have the job done correctly. i attempted to speak with a very rude manager, my family has done business with this company for many many years, (kost), for $100 and their incompetence they have lost a large families loyalty and business. its a shame. i will never recommend them to another person. i was spoken to like i was an ignorant little girl and lied to. read more

Should have read the other review but listened to a family member who apparently knows the owner. Took our car in for an inspection, had to find a new garage as the one we always used closed. Total rip off, told us we needed a booster for the brakes, the wheel bearings were bad and license plate lights didn't work. I know the bearings are good as they were just replaced yesterday and the license plate bulbs are working checked them myself, its possible the booster does need replacing but over $500.00 to install a $60 part is ridiculous. They expected we would just leave it there and have the work done but will take it elsewhere even though they removed the inspection sticker. WARNING: THIS PLACE WILL RIP YOU OFF BIG TIME! Took my vehicle in for an inspection and they said they couldn't pass it do to a slow oil drip from a bad seal by my oil pump. This was a lie plain and simple. They wanted me to get something fixed that was not required to be fixed before they would pas it for inspection. I then took it to my regular mechanic and it passed easily. The only reason I went to Big E first is because they were offering half priced oil changes and inspections and I needed both. They used to be Kost Tires before they got into big trouble with the NYS DMV or DOT, not sure which, for cheating their customers.
