Big hole barbecue opened its doors in Jackson, Wyoming in 2017. I had only been past it over the past few years, but never been to it. But after going for lunch, I can say it's pretty good. The service was great. The manager was able to see us fast and the food was good. The fries and a pulled pork sandwich really hit the spot. The interior of the restaurant has brushed steel and orange painted walls, which give it a Mid South barbecue pit vibe there's outdoor seating available on Pearl Street. Delicious BBQ!!! Super fresh and my favorite were the BBQ ribs that the meat was so tender that it fell right off the bone. The brisket was great and the bread was toasted perfectly and had the right amount of butter on it. There local beers are really good too! Don't get me started on the pecan and milk pies omg.... It's a very casual restaurant and bar with your conventional bar food (nachos, mac and cheese, onion rings), salads, tacos, burgers, BBQ, and sandwiches. As soon as we sat down, some of our tour buddies passed us their basket of fried pickle chips because the portion was so big it overpowered them. I have to say, those pickles were fantastic-super crunchy and delicious. We ordered two mini BBQ tacos, one chicken and one pulled pork, with BBQ sauce, slaw and pico. At a rock bottom price of $5 each, these large "minis" were a stel and very tasty. I went with a rarely seen 1/3 rack of ribs with a choice of one side for $14. I chose cole slaw. The ribs were incredible and cooked perfectly. I know that "the meat slid off the bone" has become a cliché, but guess what, when I picked up the first one... yes... the meat literally fell off the bone into my plate. They got some things very right and some very wrong. The ribs were great. The rub on the brisket was wonderful, BUT the meat was so dry! In Texas, you could get shot for serving barbeque this bad!!! Brisket was not tender. However it did have gross 1 inch fat cap which should have been trimmed to 1/4 inch. We got it to go and said we needed enough for four people. We got home and the coleslaw was mounded up in foil. No container. Are you kidding. Never seen that before. How were the sides ? They gave us one small (about a 1/4 cup) of slaw and the same size for the beans for four people. Pork ribs were not tender. Very tough and took a lot of chewing. A+ Experience at Big Hole BBQ! We had a party of six and were seated quickly, which was a great start. The place had a warm, laid-back vibe, and I have to give a shoutout to what I believe was the owner/operator--he was wearing all the hats that day. Bussing tables, waiting on guests, running food--you name it, he was doing it. And yet, despite clearly having a lot on his plate (pun intended), the service was still top-notch. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Now, onto the food--absolutely spectacular. Our group tried a little of everything: the Cuban, sweet potato fries, pulled pork sandwich, smoked chicken wrap with bacon and tomato in a tomato basil tortilla, prime rib sandwich, and Philly tacos. Every single dish was a hit. You can tell there's real pride and care going into everything that comes out of the kitchen. And that barbecue sauce? I only tried the original, not the spicy, but wow--maybe the best I've ever had. Perfectly balanced, with just the right mix of tang and sweetness. Seriously impressive. To say the Burnt Ends were good is a sad excuse of the English language. More powerful adjectives define the succulent and savory taste that comes when a dry rub meets aged beef. This organic experience awakens the mouth and sends you onto a one way trip to bliss. Ok, I hate not having a lot positive to say, but this place missed the mark quite a few times during the meal. First the good news. The smoked wings were pretty good. Good smoke flavor. Slightly overcooked but all around pretty good with the dry rub option. The pork BBQ sandwich was large/solid portion and the meat was very tender. But there was zero smoke flavor. The 2 brisket sandwiches were full of meat, but whomever cooked it either does not know how to smoke a briskets, or they just cook a ton of them, and then the reheating process dries them out. There was no rub on any of the brisket. They were as dried out and bland as you could possibly imagine. The ribs were so so. Tender bites. Semi-decent on the tenderness and flavor but nothing that will blow your skirt up. And finally whatever you do do not order the mac & cheese. It is literally Kraft macaroni and cheese out of a box and they up charge you and extra three dollars for it. I don't think I've ever had worse macaroni and cheese in my entire life. This is a great venue and a great location that somebody who understands barbecue needs to come in there and do a complete revamp. Nice seating outside which is paramount as we had a dog! The place was busy inside and later on passing noticed the outdoor tables were all full. The food was good, the two melts were more than the girls could eat and were consumed later around the campfire. The brisket was consumed on the spot! A lot friendlier than the guys that work there. 5/5 - Burt ends - so good! The reviews are correct on this and they do melt in your mouth. I probably could've just ordered the larger portion and had this as my main dish. 3/4 - Pork sandwich with Mac n cheese and baked beans - the pork sandwich came out a bit cold. The mac and cheese was decent but the beans were not good. They are cooked a southern style but mine tasted a bit on the sour side. 3/4 - Ribs were just okay. We started with an enormous appetizer plate of beautifully prepared fried okra before moving on to a pound of burnt ends with a side of french fries that proved equally enormous. A tap beer rounded out the order. The price point was very good, especially when one considers that the burnt ends are the real deal-- an end cut with a Texas flavor profile. Oh the ribs are so tender! We were on a national park tour and the first stop was the Grand Tetons. We stayed at the 49er's across the street. Reading through other reviews, I have to agree that the service for us was also a bit lacking. We were told to seat ourselves when we arrived, sat at a table and it took probably 10 mins for someone to come over to us and get our drink orders. After that, our service was fine but food and drinks were just dropped off at our table without any conversation or something as simple as "here's your drink" etc. They dropped stuff off and left so quickly that it was hard to catch their attention to ask for anything. There were also several times we had to ask for things 2-3 times. A coke, extra side of ranch, a box. We did enjoy the food though, we split several items including buffalo smoked wings, burnt ends, Mac and cheese, and the big hole fries. All of it was cooked well and tasted good except the burnt ends. They were extremely fatty compared to any other burnt ends I've had. I also thought the portions were a good size for the prices. The drink prices were great as well! The vibe was good, several people eating and drinking watching sports games. I liked the decor and the laid back feel.
