Several locals shopkeepers have suggested The Bistro in the Cloudveil Hotel just off the Jackson square for a nice lunch. The setting is beautiful and sleek. We were surprised on a Saturday afternoon that the place had 3 couples only for lunch. The bar is the center of the restaurant and it is beautifully done. I found the menu to be limited and not that inspiring. We ordered the French onion soup and the catfish po-boy with fries. The flavor was good for the French onion soup while temperature was luke warm at best. This soup is usually super hot unless they melted the cheese with a torch. The po-boy sandwich had nice fluffy bread, a flavorless catfish filet but delicious fries. If the remoulade had not been present, it would of been tasteless. I had higher food expectations with the beautiful restaurant design but the food is no where close to matching the bar. A real disappointment. I know the chef is a long term resident and success in Jackson, but this was not anything to write home about. read more

Place feels like a classic steakhouse, upscale but not to the point where you need to dress up or anything. Was quite busy when we went but we were able to be seated pretty quickly without having a reservation. Ordered the Buffalo Wellington which was exquisite. The pie crust was incredibly flaky and meat was tender. My mom ordered the rainbow trout which was also very good and flaky. It's not exactly cheap and the portions are not huge though. I am crying...simply because I don't live anywhere near here and likely will need to wait several years to have it again. My husband and I couldn't get a reservation - so we stopped by close to 6PM on a Friday; we were told they'd put us on the list for the bar only, but we had to stick around, as they wouldn't call/text us. We decided it was worth the try and ended up only waiting about 20 minutes. First, I laughed that all their seasonal cocktails were named for Happy Gilmore references - but the two that I tried were refreshing and light. For food, we shared a caesar salad, which was great. Then, we shared one of their nightly specials - of course, a steak. It was truly, the best steak I've ever had in my life - the perfectly seared crust and the flaky sea salt? Absolutely divine. For sides, we did the wild mushrooms and potato gratin. I wish we'd gotten the mashed potatoes, as the gratin was a bit on the dry side - but was still tasty. Finally, we ended the sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream. YUM! The caramel sauce was truly so divine, I wanted to like it off the plate. Doesn't Live Up to the Hype While planning our Jackson trip, I wanted a memorable dining experience and booked Local based on rave reviews. Sadly, it was mostly a letdown. The host wasn't welcoming, and the place was so loud our server had to shout. We ordered several dishes, hoping the high prices meant high quality. My soup was delicious, but the sweet corn and asparagus risotto (the ONLY! GF and vegetarian entrée) was sticky, undercooked, and flavorless -- I had to send it back. My husband liked his Caprese salad, but the Buffalo Wellington was tiny, underwhelming, and overpriced. Our daughter was satisfied with her buffalo Bolognese, but overall, the food was hit or miss. The vibe and hype don't match the reality -- there are definitely better hidden gems in Jackson that won't leave you feeling disappointed (or overcharged). read more

Shrimp were large, cocktail sauce needed more horseradish, bread was fresh. Cocktails were on point. Nice whiskey selection too. My elk T-bone was delicious. Not gamey, very mild, super tender. The Local on the Square was a surprisingly enjoyable dining experience. I was expecting a more touristy atmosphere. The interior of the restaurant had very classic gastropub feel with a modern twist. I ordered a ribeye steak cooked medium rare. It was delicious and cooked two order although I had to add a little bit more pepper just round out the overall flavor profile. The truffle mac & cheese was super delicious. Huckleberry old-fashioned I had was pretty good. It tasted more like a regular old-fashioned versus a "huckleberry" old-fashioned which is kind of disappointing since I was eager to try it. Service was good. Despite being sat at the bar the bartender only checked in about 3 times. But I get it since the restaurant was fairly busy but the food was delicious and I had a good time. read more

First night in Jackson Hole! We made reservations for three to try one of the "best steaks" in town ... and the restaurant had such a great vibe. Inside felt rustic yet classic, with a western dressy-casual feel. We didn't feel underdressed at all, still rocking our boots and jean jackets! We were celebrating my husband's 50th and started with the Focaccia, warm, soft, and served with delicious compound butter. We could've easily eaten another round! We also tried the Herb Roasted Bone Marrow with roasted tomato vinaigrette ...absolutely melted in our mouths. My husband ordered the 14 oz Elk Steak, which was tender but felt small and overpriced. My teen and I ordered the 14 oz Ribeye, and we shared Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes...both were excellent sides. Our waiter was just okay. He seemed more focused on the larger table behind us ordering bottles of wine, so our table felt overlooked. It took quite a while for him to come back, and by the time he asked about dessert, we just requested the check. We were a group of seven. Three of our party ordered steaks, all of which were under cooked. One person ordered a filet med rare. It was served charred rare. She sent it back, the second time it came out more carred on the outside and blood rare on the inside. The manager came out when we complained and argued with us, stating that is how med rare is cooked. A $50 steak should be cooked correctly. My trout was fine. However, within a minute of my husband receiving his Wagyu Philly and my chicken Marsala, the bartender accidentally knocked my water over and directly onto my dish and all over my lap. I remained calm and understanding because accidents happen. Darryl, the bartender, apologized and told me he would have an entirely new dish made, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, it took over 25 minutes for the replacement to come out, and by that time my husband had already finished his dinner. Darryl also mentioned he would take care of a round of drinks, which I felt was a thoughtful gesture given the situation. However, when the bill arrived, only one glass of wine had been removed. We don't dine out expecting anything for free, but when a commitment is made, especially after a guest leaves soaking wet, it should've been honored. If not that, the entree should've been taken care of. The food was good, but the follow through and overall handling of the situation left a completely disappointing impression. Loved my dinner here with my husband and parents -- and being from Colorado, we've had a lot of good meat. The bison tartar was one of the best we've had, as were the lamb chops appetizer. The bartender, Matt, served up a nonalcoholic pina colada for our son and hubby and I ordered our drinks. The Happy Place was amazing especially if you like mint! We were very excited to try their food, they are packed, so making a reservation is almost a must, unless you can visit very early or after the main dinner rush. Service was definitely rushed and on the short almost unfriendly side, but the front desk was very friendly and welcoming. The food was great, steak was cooked on point, fries were delicious and my buffalo Wellington was cooked wonderfully. I didn't realize that my main dish didn't come with a side, a quick ask from the server would have been nice (that's where the rush also came in). They came on a bed of salt that forced you to eat them with a fork off the shell. And I've had significantly better at loads of places. The truffle fries may have been ok. I'm not a fan of those. We reserved pretty easily with 6 people, and we all got the burgers. They were pretty great with the size and the fries. They made them all according to the rareness we wanted which was great. The seasoning on the burger meat was good too. It wasn't dry. The service was fast and good? They do have a hour and half per table which they do keep up with. Other than that it was a good place.
