    French onion soup
    Lori W.

I had a lovely lunch with friends here! The food was exquisite and so were the drinks. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant in addition to the service. I ordered a French onion soup and a charcuterie board with 2 different cheeses as well as salami. I also had a farmstead bear necessity cider and a "Marty McFly" cocktail to drink, both of which were delicious. Overall this place definitely serves my types of apps and drinks so I'll definitely be coming back!

An excellent lunch choice. The Local offered several lunch options and the chicken, bacon, lettuce and tomato had my name on it. Delicious. Comes with arugula salad and/or perfectly cooked fries. Service was great, fun, engaging, interesting and prompt. Inside the place is nicely appointed, with a well stocked bar and comfortable seating. I liked this place as it was a cut above from most of Jackson's other touristy places. Here you get a good, freshly prepared meal at a reasonable price.

Located right in the middle of Jackson Hole Square! Delicious food, friendly staff, and rustic but modern ambiance. Prices are a bit high but it's because it's located in the middle of all the action in town especially for all the tourist. You can't go wrong with anything you get here. Highly recommend to anyone and make sure to make a reservation ahead of time especially for dinner times.

Another night without reservations but was able to grab seats at the bar. Fun, engaging staff and nice people seated in the area. Fun environment. Can't beat the happy hour special with half priced cocktails. Fun times :-). Asked to turn the TV channel to the baseball game and they happily obliged. Couple next to us raved about the steak frites. Hangar steak with a chimichurri sauce and fries. Steak was very flavorful and the sauce was a good add. Fries were just ok.

Had a wonderful experience here, everything we ordered was excellent. The steak was perfectly cooked, the chicken was flavorful, the wedge salad was fresh and crisp, and the brownie was the perfect finish. Definitely recommend making a reservation because it was busy!

Chill local spot. Friendly and attentive staffs! Chili's was good but hope it comes with Frittos. Bone Marrow was fine but the tomato sauce that came with it pairs great with grilled focaccia.

The food, the service and the decor were fantastic. Our waitress, Chelsea, was outstanding. We had the charcuterie board, a couple drinks, elk medallions and elk chop. This food was amazingly delicious.

The food was amazing and we had no trouble getting reservations but calling ahead. The French onion soup was to die for.

I am crying...simply because I don't live anywhere near here and likely will need to wait several years to have it again. My husband and I couldn't get a reservation - so we stopped by close to 6PM on a Friday; we were told they'd put us on the list for the bar only, but we had to stick around, as they wouldn't call/text us. We decided it was worth the try and ended up only waiting about 20 minutes. First, I laughed that all their seasonal cocktails were named for Happy Gilmore references - but the two that I tried were refreshing and light. For food, we shared a caesar salad, which was great. Then, we shared one of their nightly specials - of course, a steak. It was truly, the best steak I've ever had in my life - the perfectly seared crust and the flaky sea salt? Absolutely divine. For sides, we did the wild mushrooms and potato gratin. I wish we'd gotten the mashed potatoes, as the gratin was a bit on the dry side - but was still tasty. Finally, we ended the sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream. YUM! The caramel sauce was truly so divine, I wanted to like it off the plate. The bartenders were attentive, fun and answered all our questions with ease. Truly such a fun spot for a date night in Jackson.

Doesn't Live Up to the Hype While planning our Jackson trip, I wanted a memorable dining experience and booked Local based on rave reviews. Sadly, it was mostly a letdown. The host wasn't welcoming, and the place was so loud our server had to shout. We ordered several dishes, hoping the high prices meant high quality. My soup was delicious, but the sweet corn and asparagus risotto (the ONLY! GF and vegetarian entrée) was sticky, undercooked, and flavorless -- I had to send it back. My husband liked his Caprese salad, but the Buffalo Wellington was tiny, underwhelming, and overpriced. Our daughter was satisfied with her buffalo Bolognese, but overall, the food was hit or miss. The vibe and hype don't match the reality -- there are definitely better hidden gems in Jackson that won't leave you feeling disappointed (or overcharged).

If you are headed to Jackson Hole proper, check this place out. The service, food and drinks were excellent. We started with a shrimp cocktail and bread. Shrimp were large, cocktail sauce needed more horseradish, bread was fresh. Cocktails were on point. Nice whiskey selection too. My elk T-bone was delicious. Not gamey, very mild, super tender. My girlfriend's risotto was cooked perfectly with great flavor. Sides were also good. The bread pudding could use some work, it was a little bland. Not gonna ding them though. Check this place out if you are in downtown Jackson Hole!

    Cutest drink menu.

Had a great experience here. Burgers were great, drinks were wonderful, service was great and such a cozy spot to be inside in a snowy day. We'd totally return!

The Local on the Square was a surprisingly enjoyable dining experience. I was expecting a more touristy atmosphere. The interior of the restaurant had very classic gastropub feel with a modern twist. I ordered a ribeye steak cooked medium rare. It was delicious and cooked two order although I had to add a little bit more pepper just round out the overall flavor profile. The truffle mac & cheese was super delicious. Huckleberry old-fashioned I had was pretty good. It tasted more like a regular old-fashioned versus a "huckleberry" old-fashioned which is kind of disappointing since I was eager to try it. Service was good. Despite being sat at the bar the bartender only checked in about 3 times. But I get it since the restaurant was fairly busy but the food was delicious and I had a good time.

Is there a dress code? Or is it pretty casual (jeans & nice shirt)?

This is Wyoming everything is casual. Nice jeans and a button down shirt is fine. Don't forget the cowboy boots 😉

    Are reservations necessary?

When we went in the fall, reservations were necessary. You can try to grab a seat at the bar, but it's pretty jam packed.

Filet was perfectly cooked to my medium request, tender, and perfectly seasoned. They tout USDA prime meats, and I have no doubt that's what they serve. Hubs ordered his steak be served on their 600 degree salt block, and he was a bit hesitant that it could easily be overcooked. It arrived at the table, he removed the steak from the extremely hot salt block and each piece he placed back on the salt block before eating. I actually did the same with several pieces of my steak. I was amazed at the additional flavor this salt block added to an already delicious filet! Our shared sides were very good, too. My husband, the cookie lover, ordered the chocolate chip cookie à la mode which is served fresh from the oven in a small cast iron skillet. I had a hard time keeping my spoon out of his delicious dessert - so glad he shares. We were seated quickly and our server was very helpful making recommendations. First, I know the management prepared for us. We had to select the entrees a couple of days before. Second, we were seated next to the circular wall towards the street, very accommodating. Noise factor was good to excellent because of the high ceilings (the industrial look you know with exposed duct work now popular.) Third, finally the food what you really want to know... All of us had the house salad. It was lightly dressed which I appreciated since some restaurants over dress or use a harsh vinaigrette. I had their beef steaks which the tour written description was a fillet, restaurant menu list as a ribeye. I 'm not going to complain because it was accurately seared. I asked for mine medium and another asked for medium well. Both were slightly under which was good. Presentation was excellent they did change from sweet potatoes to a couscous ( I think) which was a good switch and tasty. My spouse had the rainbow trout and it was amazing! It a good size, as again presentation was great! Tasted good too! Not dry. Another person had the truffle pasta and there was a poached egg on top. What a surprise! They said it tasted good! We eventually had to check in to make sure they were even coming. The food was fine, but not something we'd come back for. The elk pasta lacked the depth and richness you expect from a bolognese. The trout--poblano stuffed and curry-prepared--was an interesting idea, but the curry completely overpowered the fish, making the dish feel unbalanced. We had curry-dusted trout at The Blue Lion earlier in the week that was far better. (One of the best trout meals I've ever had.)

We mentioned this to the young hostess, who replied that she "had no control over that." We asked if she could at least inform a manager. Our waitress took our drink order in an impatient, distracted manner. She was looking around the room as I was speaking to her. When I began placing my order and requested my steak cooked medium, she rudely interrupted me by saying, "Just a minute," and walked away to speak to another server at the table next to us. She eventually returned to finish taking our orders. Our Caesar salads were good, although they were served warm instead of chilled. My 10-ounce sirloin, ordered medium, was decent but unremarkable. Unfortunately, my husband's and son-in-law's steaks, both also ordered medium, arrived extremely rare and were so undercooked they were difficult to cut. Their baked potatoes were hard and undercooked. My daughter and grandchildren ordered the ravioli, green beans, mushrooms, and macaroni and cheese, which were all bland and best described as merely adequate. My iced tea was never refilled, and our waitress was nowhere to be found throughout most of the meal. The room was so hot and noisy that my daughter and grandchildren eventually left the table because it was a very unpleasant atmosphere. As we were leaving, I stopped at the hostess stand and asked an older woman if she was the manager. She abruptly replied, "One of them." I quietly began explaining our experience so as not to create a scene. Instead of listening, she fixed me with a hostile stare and interrupted me by asking, "Did you tell your waitress about these issues so she could tell me?" I explained that our waitress never returned--not even to refill my tea--so we never had the opportunity to discuss our concerns with her. It was clear from the manager's attitude that the conversation wasn't going to be productive, so I simply told her my husband was still at the table and wanted to speak with her. Ironically, my daughter predicted the manager would treat the men in our party with more courtesy--and she was right. She listened to their concerns and removed one steak and a iced tea from the bill. Between the mediocre food, inattentive service, and unprofessional management, this was an extremely disappointing dining experience. We will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this restaurant
