I had no idea if Big Jim's Donuts' East Hollywood location was associated with the one in nearby Glendale, but I was surprised I didn't frequent it due to its proximity to my hipster 'hood crib. Plus, I've been to the other surrounding businesses (e.g. It's Boba Time, Que Ricos!, Yoshinoya) multiple times. Now that I've visited and reviewed it, would this be the big opportunity for me to grab donuts and more in the future!? PURCHASE 16floz Thai Iced Tea w/Boba Smoothie ($5.00): A meal in itself, the flavor wasn't overly sweet, the consistency was more on the thin side and flowed smoothly, there could've been more boba yet perfectly chewy but not gooey, and it was all topped with a dollop of flat whipped cream. There were several crunchy odd crannies, corners, and nooks which I liked to break off into small little morsels. 5th, it was still fresh based on its temperature and morning time with some hints of oil pockets and gooey apple juices that leaked into your mouth and dripped down your throat. This place looks good. It offers a lot of stuff you go in there. But literally the last three times I went in there. I didn't end up buying a doughnut because there were some type of grasshopper or fly or bug in the case. I pointed out to the ladies and no one even flinches. I'm not really sure what the conditions are in the back but in the front, they definitely have bugs on the donuts fruit flies all over the fruity croissant donuts and I just wouldn't trust eating anything out of there. This is a terrible place to go eat the lady barely knew English she was really mad at me but tried to hide by not yelling at me not to be racist or anything but she was like Asian and a little old and I am saying this because I hope they fire her due to the lack of good services towards young people it seemed like she was only being kind to other older than me just by the way I dressed. I wandered in here with my kid to grab a donut while we waited for our order from BobaTime next door. Although I had seen Big Jim's years, I never thought of coming in. Whenever the need for a donut arose, I would go to California Donuts or Krispy Kreme. BOY HAVE I BEEN MISSING OUT. The matcha glaze with sesame seeds on top were PERFECTION. The dough was soft, the seagreen glaze wasn't too sweet (unlike most donut shops, it wasn't diabetes inducing), and the sesame seed flavor actually came through. It was, dare I say, a marvelous donut! Even my husband, who wouldn't touch anything matcha flavored, was clearly impressed. My kid got the chocolate glaze but he'll praise anything with chocolate. There was a fly in the donut case and they charge 85 cents to use a credit card. The workers are not very friendly and it's noisy.

Be careful. My roommates and I came here a few times this week and paid with card. We were double charged each time after I discovered the extra charges when looking at my bank statement later that day. Went back to see if it was a mistake or misunderstanding, and the workers were insanely rude and pushed us out of the store. Some neighbors I spoke to had the same experience. Went in at a busy time around 8:15am and service was super quick. I ordered 3 dozen donuts to go and they were all fresh and they had enough! So that was nice! Donuts were good and had a good assortment of all the basic ones everyone likes! I came for the coffee... NOT CASH ONLY!!! A different review said that. Not accurate. They charge a $1 fee for any credit purchases made under $10. Which the lady told me up front before she took my card. It's not cash only, but if you're ordering under $10, bring cash or use the ATM. Coffee was ok. They had 4 options, regular, decaf, vanilla and cinnamon hazelnut. Standard creamer options, a grocery store bought creamer. Half and half and a gallon of milk. Unfortunately NO HONEY I drink my coffee and tea with honey, so that's sometimes a deal breaker for me. I had to use white sugar (GASP!) A large coffee cost me $2, even. I thought it was fair value for the size and quality. Served in a nondescript styrofoam cup, which I love. Nice, warm and fresh. Taste was comparable to 7-11 and McDonalds, maybe a little better than those guys. Seating was mediocre. Bar stools, probably about 16 at 4 tables. Wasn't really the cozy coffee shop atmosphere I like when I want to sit and read my Bible. But it works when it's not too busy. Most people seem to order it to-go. They also had a soft drink cooler. I bought my brother a cold, 12oz RedBull for $3.75. A little pricy, but nice for the convenience. They had parking out front, which was awesome! Somewhat limited parking, but I could have just parked at McDonalds and walked across the street. There seems like there's free street parking nearby, anyway. I don't really eat donuts but the egg and cheese croissant is good. Also the gas station across the street doesn't have orange crush. I think I'm the only one who ever buys the orange crush from here because they're never out of it and the rack is always full. Sometimes i wish they took card but then the good thing about cash only businesses is that the government isn't able to track you and see what you're buying. Big Jim's Donuts Are Out of This World GOOD! I'm from Pennsylvania, and I was very surprised to see that LA has some kind of Love Affair with donuts, and Bakeries. There's either a Donut shop or Bakery on nearly every corner, in LA! I used to live in Long Beach, way back in the mid `70's - yeah, there were donut shops then, but not like now. My daughter and I stumbled upon Big Jim's Donuts, and are we ever so glad we did. I took one look at the cinnamon or cinnamon/nut donut and knew that I'd have to eat at least one of them! NO! Not those big puffy one's! The solid cake like donuts - YEAH! I also knew that I'd need to try an Old Fashioned donut too. Except, I like `em with powdered sugar on `em. When I asked for an Old Fashioned with the powdered sugar on it, the owner kinda looked at me sideways, as if no one had ever requested an Old Fashioned donut with powdered sugar before! But, he obliged me, post hast, with a smile! I actually ordered 2 Old Fashioned donuts that way, and got 2 of the cinnamon donuts too. My daughter got one of the "Puffy Donuts" with the chocolate icing on it. We went back to her house and entered into "Donut Heaven" Oh My God! So Friggin' Good!
