My goodness, my first time here and I was greeted by the sweetest Asian lady. We were just chatting as I ordered and she tells me yesterday she had a customer who paid $3 with stiff, brand new $1 bills and accidentally gave $6 because the bills got stuck together. She said I had to run out to them to give the $3 back. She said "it wasn't mine to keep." That little story made me trust her, and left a lasting impression on me as a first-time customer. I'm not around this area much, but I'm so thankful I got to buy something from her today on the way to work. Would definitely keep this store as a favorite. They also have egg tarts! What?? Still the best ham and cheese croissant I ever had. It's like they are made with pure love; every bite tastes fresh and not like they were leftovers from days before. Last time I went, I tried the one with jalapenos, and it just complemented the sandwich so well. Best of all the older lady who works here; she is so sweet and funny. First, my family and I have been coming here for years. Quality has declined but the people are sweet. Always nice and ftiendly. Graffiti doesn't help the ambience and storefront. It's run down from where it used to be back in the days. They had the BEST donuts, especially buttermilk. Before going to school, I would always pick up a bagel with cream cheese, wrapped in saran wrap. So this place has so much positive memories, until today. We went in to stop by, for old times' sake. It's been a few years since we bought donuts because we've found better and tastier alternatives. My favorite is the glazed buttermilk and decided to give it another try. I usually eat it by taking it apart and not immediately biting into it. Thank goodness I did. I saw something like a bug leg then opened it up further to find this baby cockroach baked into it. Originally, I posted the photo but I took it down because 1) it's gross and 2) I don't want to make the business owners look bad, especially if others feels they have great experiences here. The real problem is the location and if they care enough or have access to financial resources to make the improvements necessary to clean up their establishment. They are really great people and am sad I had to share this negative personal experience. Needless to say, very disappointed and most likely will not return until the place improves. read more

Los Angeles is a donut city and these are the best donuts in LA. PERIOD. You need to be getting here EARLY because a) they're ELITE when they're warm and b) they sell out. I used to live down the block from Michelle's, I discovered it by just wandering in. Nowadays I still drive 25 minutes to East Hollywood just for these donuts. Yum, I am picky about my donuts and these are amazing! I got a plain glazed yeast donut, and my friends got a strawberry glazed and a strawberry glazed with sprinkles, and they were all delicious. I've lived a few blocks away from this place for years now, and never paid attention to it until recently. But recently I decided to give it a try...and then I went back again, and again, and again. So after eating here many times over a period of several months, I can confidently say that this is one of the greatest donut places in the area. Every single pastry I've tried has been delicious - Boston creme and jelly-filled donuts, rolls, croissants, etc, all fantastic, not a single bad one so far (not even a single mediocre one!). I especially love the jalapeno-ham-cheese croissant, which tastes surprisingly good when eaten cold, and even better after being air-fried for a few minutes. The iced coffee is tasty as well and actually provides a nice punch of energy. The service is really fantastic too, both workers who've helped me so far are extremely pleasant and helpful, even early in the morning. What's most surprising is that it's all so inexpensive. Most donuts are less than $2 (and they're huge) and a large iced coffee is around $3. The price-to-quality ratio here is insane. Of course it's important to note that they're CASH ONLY - I am such a big fan of this place that I now make sure to have $10-$20 worth of "Michelle's cash" set aside at all times, just in case I get a craving. I really do have a little stash of money just to use here, which is silly, but it makes complete sense in my mind. My one little criticism - I wish they had more flavors of donuts! I've tried so many of them already and I just want to keep finding new favorites. But they're a small business so I don't mind it. Actually, I do have a second critique - this place is horrible for my belly and my wallet, living so close to it is a curse. Stopped by randomly and they had the most delicious-looking bear claws. Pillowy soft, not too sweet, and the apple pie filling was spot-on - just enough for each bite. Total 10 outta 10. Also, the cashier, Annie, was so friendly and kind - she was awesome. Definitely recommend and would be back again. I was in the plaza to get a haircut and it was too hard to resist the donuts yummily displayed. So many choices! Love that there are savory choices as well. After much debating - I could have taken one of each HAHA! I decided for the jalapeño ham & cheese croissant, Choco chip pastry and a blueberry donut. All were delish! Especially the croissant. YUM! Simple doughnut shop with tint of when Winchell's left the premises. The typeface may be the same, but the execution isn't any better. You really can't go wrong picking up a dozen in the AM, but often times they may be a day old if not careful. There is also a basic variety of the little darlings we have come accustomed to with none of those fancy hipsterized varieties. I have to admit, I prefer it. Price and value is the key at times when you just want a guilty yesteryear pleasure of a simple cake or chocolate bar doughnut. read more

Stopped by for a quick pickup and was pleasantly surprised at the cost and how fresh the donuts were despite it being 1pm. I walked in and was welcomed with a wonderful lady in the front asking what I wanted and told me how much is what/for a dozen. It's $10 for 1 dozen, and cash only!!!! The donuts were soft and not too sweet. Didn't taste old or stale at all. I was about to eat the whole box before I got to my destination! I'll be stopping by here again if I'm in the area. I read a couple of the reviews since I was craving for a blueberry donut and S & K ran out the night before. Since I was doing errands around Santa Monica blvd area. I decided to stop by on a freakin HOT day to pick up some blueberry donuts. The place is alright. Inexpensive donuts and she also gave me a good deal. The only part that sucks is that if you want a regular blueberry donut you have to come in the a.m. They ran out of the blueberry donuts but still had the buttermilk blueberry one. One left and oh hell yeah I for sure grabbed it. And of course a few more for the hubby and daughter. They also had a strawberry it was OK not that WOW cause it was to soft and a little on the heavy side. Worker was cool and was patient with me to. I will be coming back for that buttermilk blueberry and if there is regular blueberry. read more

I really love the donuts here; they're delicious and exactly what you'd hope for- classic donuts like glazed, chocolate with sprinkles, jelly, etc. Fancy donuts are fine but I like to keep things basic when it comes to donuts. Love that the sign feels like a knock off Winchell's with the W turned upside down. We think Michelle's is better though... So happy they were open until 10 pm on a Saturday night. Old school donut place, at the time I visited they had almost no selection left (they got crushed by the early morning labor day crowd) but we got 2 donuts and 2 iced coffees for less than $8. The coconut donut was pillowy and perfect. The iced coffee was decent for the price. This seems like a really decent donut shop. I stopped by one weekend to grab a donut and coffee and saw that they had a bread pudding muffin! Of course, being that I really like bread pudding, I just had to have this. The muffin was good. Although it looked a tad over baked by color, the inside was quite pleasant, moist and buttery. It came out warmed and I am concerned that she nuked it before giving it to me without me realizing. I have stopped using a microwave for a few years now due to it killing and rendering completely nutrition less anything it heats up. I mean, you might as well just eat a cardboard box if you're going to nuke something because you'd get the same nutrition value. If I come back and get this again, I'll have to remember to tell the kind owner lady not to heat it up for me. Although, warmed bread pudding is best, hopefully they have an oven or something. Had a donut craving so I went hunting. Michelle's Donuts was nearby and I was intrigued. It's definitely one of those strip mall shops that you have a goooood feeling about. And in the end, I did like it but there were some things that I didn't like. Pros: Great price. Good classic selection. Friendly people. Cons: A bit too sweet and a tad soggy and, sadly, numerous flies were all around the donuts. I might try it again one day, but I'll defintely try other donut shops first. read more

The donuts are excellent the coffee is often burnt but the service from the old wench is awful. She never smiles and has the attitude that the customer owe her ,and how she is above everybody. Today was the final straw for me as i go there almost every other day and spend close to three dollars. Ive even throw up to a total in change of $2 in her aqua tip bowl.
