Big John's came highly recommended by a friend. Unfortunately it's not my favorite place, nor one I would recommend to most people. Cleanliness is the main issue. Everything feels grungy/dirty. No one was wearing masks (late 2020) and generally it just didn't seem sanitary in a post-Covid world. There are nicer/cleaner places nearby. That said the drinks are fairly cheap and it's not over crowded. read more

This is a favorite watering hole. Charmingly divey with a complement of regulars. Karaoke on Friday nights. I've heard spectacularly bad Led Zeppelin covers there. It's probably more fun when the weather is nice. Lots of choices for beer lovers. Lots of pub food choices, I like their potato skins a lot. Took a chance on a Cobb salad and was impressed by homemade tasting blue cheese dressing and well prepared chicken on the salad. You get about what you would expect from this place. They aren't trying to be anything that they are not and that's ok. You can tell that it is most regulars that hang out here. We got quite a few stares when we walked in. I felt pretty out of place and it only got worse when we went to the bar to order drinks. We asked the bar tender for a beer list. They didn't have one. No beers on draft but they did have quite a few craft beers in cans... although we got made fun of for asking for them. And then we mocked again as the "craft beer couple" when we tried to close our tab. I can take a little teasing though so I was fine with it. However, my husband's beer was clearly skunked. The can wasn't firm when we got it and it tasted very off. We didn't want to have to go to the bar and draw anymore attention to ourselves by asking for another so we just drank it and left. All in all, I can't really hate on this place. Like I said, it was pretty much what I was expecting. Not sure that we will be going back anytime soon, which is a shame because it is right around the corner from us. We were really hoping for a good neighborhood spot. read more

Great awards are given for the 1st place and 2nd place winners. I notice my waitress was serving a lot of people but she was still swift with my drinks and very polite. I've got to start off by saying this place is obviously targeting a different kind of customer than myself but I still felt compelled to write this in case there are other people out they like me. Walking in, it was about what I expected from seeing it from the street. I was a bit surprised at the pornography on the walls of the men's room but it is an ice house. My wife and I came here looking for a good burger and a couple beers. Their beer list is pretty extensive but only if you like bud light or the 20 or so synonyms. Again, I realize many do, but I was disappointed that a couldn't find a single IPA or anything close to type of beer that I like. That brought it down to 4 stars for me. Moving on to the food. They did have a decent selection of burgers on their menu. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, wife ordered some guacamole burger. We were both really disappointed. There wasn't much flavor to either one and each ran us just south of $10. They came with about 1/3 of the French fries that I was expecting so at this point I started to get a bit grumpy. That brought me down to 3 stars. After that, our server forgot about us and I had to go find her to request our bill. $30 for 2 burgers and 2 bottom shelf beers. They have a really large open air area where it gets smokey in the colder months. Smokers tend to congregate right at the entrance to the open area. If you walk thru - hold your breath. Bartenders are great, the girls serving are personable and really hustle. Warning- food is great during the week. We go for the crawfish several times a year for the last few years and we just left after going through 10 Lbs of the biggest and most flavorful crawfish that I have had outside of the Atchafallaya swamplands of Louisiana! The live music Big John's brings in is fantastic (professional musician speaking here) and makes it well worth coming. So far I've only caught In the Key of Soul and Coco and the Sugarcanes, but they were both stellar and I was surprised to see such great performances with no cover charge. Check them out! Used to be a cool place to hang out but lately some of the regulars have been getting hostile towards to "business" crowd. Our company had a happy hour there almost once a month but we will never do it again. The people are very trashy now. Waitresses can be slow because I've seen them bring their kids in to work and they have to keep track of them. Heather the bartender is very nice but other than that the staff stinks. The food is not good as I have gotten food poisoning at least twice from this place. Bathrooms are usually dirty and smell. read more
