update: I used to come here all the time back when happy hour at 3p meant $3 drinks 4p meant $4 drinks, etc. The place used to be so busy. I went recently and it was empty. However, the food was good no complaints. I wish they would bring back their old HH because it was amazing. You used to have to get off work early just to make it because it would be packed. Things just havent been the same since Covid for so many restaurants.

Came here on a Sunday for brunch. Not sure if it's the location or if the place isn't popular, but it was fairly empty. Definitely fine by me! Let's get to the food. The Brussel sprouts and crab hush puppies were great. The breakfast skillet, I could have done without. It had absolutely NO flavor. Luckily I asked for some sour cream and they were able to provide it. That's the only reason I was able to slightly enjoy the dish. The drinks. The mimosa was perfect. Hard to mess that up though right? I asked if they had any stouts and if so, if they could provide a sample. I'm so happy I asked for a sample and didn't just order the "one" stout they had. The beer was flat. So disappointing! Overall, the place was okay. I'd more than likely return for their drink happy hour, but it's a hard pass outside of that.

They put the happy in happy hour. Great drink and food specials, nice location, friendly staff, ample seating and great prices! Maria the bartender/server was amazing so sweet and friendly. I ordered the empanadas, buffalo meatballs and lemon drop martini which was on happy hr. Those empanadas were so good just bursting with flavor and the crisp was perfect. They have 3 different flavors of meatballs and I chose the Buffalo and Bleu cheese. It was just like eating wings with creamy Bleu cheese. I love when a place has a good house Bleu cheese. If you need a good time midweek stop in. Free parking in the garage, great pricing and friendly staff.

If you like to taste more espresso, then you will love this one. The burger was extremely well seasoned.

Susi was a great server, attentive and gave good suggestions. If you are not a cheese lover, do not recommend the steak sandwich... if you are I recommend. Hush puppies are light and crispy. Fish and chips is a massive portion and even better for $12 during lunch.

Three stars for the lackluster bar service. No one ever checked on us, asked how our food was.. they'd walk on by and never say a thing. We had to ask for more water, the check.. and the people that sat next to didn't have their counter bussed for over 10 minutes after they sat down. I overheard him say, "are we going to have to ask to get service?" My wife and I looked and him and said, "YES. You'll need to flag them down." CRAZY to not check on customers or greet new ones. Anyway, the food was good ‍ probably won't come back though.

First and foremost, I patronized both Bowl & Barrel next door and the General Public. The host Tiana was amazing. She handled our large crowd with ease and efficiency. Even if she was overwhelmed the customers could not tell. She answered every question with patience and a smile. I ordered the happy hour lemon drop and it was good. HOWEVER, one of the main reasons I love the General Public is for the $3, $4, $5 happy hour. Hearing that they have discontinued that was a major disappointment. The drinks are still discounted as they are half off but that novelty will surely be missed. I hope that in the future the higher ups will consider the possibility of bringing that back. I'd also like to thank the GM, David, for coming and checking on my group. He made us feel welcomed and wanting to come back despite the changes....but bring it back!!!!

Intro: I have now been to The General Public three times (twice in CityCentre and once in San Antonio). Both times in Houston have been for drinks. This regional chain is located in CityCentre which means your best bet is parking in the complimentary parking garage. Ambiance (4/5): The General Public is a visually appealing bar and restaurant. The decor is elegant and comfortable. There's seating at the bar and plenty of semi-circular booths. I have sat at both. Service (4/5): Not the fastest but they do the job. Above average service on both of my visits. Food (N/A): While I haven't had food at this location, I had their duck wings at their San Antonio location which I recommend. How often do you see duck wings on a menu?! Drinks (4.5/5): Interesting cocktail list along with a solid beer list. Wine too. I went with a tiki drink on my last visit. Overall, their cocktail list is pretty creative. And here's the coolest thing: at sundown, each day, if you're there, you get a complimentary shot. I have never seen another restaurant do this: awesome concept. The sun goes down and we celebrate! Overall: If you're looking for a bar in CityCentre, The General Public is your best choice.

We had our team brunch here today and it was amazing! The food was delicious, the staff was friendly, and such a great atmosphere! We loved it and had a blast celebrating the holidays!

Great ambiance especially for a happy hour. We parked at the garage and walked to the location since there's limited metered parking in City Center. We also made a reservation because it's busy on a Friday. They had some great choices for restaurant week and they were a good portion unlike other places that serve smaller. For an appetizer I got the Kung Pao chicken lettuce wraps which if you don't like spicy is doable but additive. The stuffed mushrooms are also good. For the main meal I had the harvest bowl with shrimp. For dessert they were small desserts in a jar. I got to try the lemon mousse and the cheesecake, which were both filling even though they were small because the harvest bowl is large. Overall the food was good and the service was friendly and attentive.

Great food and Great drinks! Ordered the fish and chips. The fish was huge pieces and I chose the jalapeño ranch instead of the tartar sauce to eat with it and it was awesome! Also had the crab hushpuppies, they were amazing...and the maple butter that came with it took me to heaven!! For drinks I had the Tiki Punch which tasted like a drink from the islands. Top all of this off with a great waiter "Bennett" and you get 5 stars!!

    Chrissy P.

Had a great time here.. the appetizers were good and so were the drinks! My server / bartender was Christian he was very attentive and helpful with ordering! The place is sorta like a sports bar but upscale! There's a lot of free parking, and a bowling alley next door so dinner and games ok and plus shopping!

Great food & Drinks!! Great service. Ask for Jose when you come in! I ordered the smash Burger and lemon drop martini

It's totally understandable that reservations wouldn't be possible on a World Cup day. Seems like the staff are not all on the same page, or I was misled to just get my group into the bar (which has happened at other bars during the tournament so it's not unheard of). Had to take my three nieces elsewhere at the last minute and don't imagine I'll be returning after that experience.

They have plenty of tables inside and seating at the bar. The patio area has a nice covered area with some TVs, typically with a local sports game on. Typically at least a couple of families are around, either playing a game or just enjoying the patio with a cold pint. Food & Drink - 4.75* Great local craft beer selection! Definitely give the wall a close look as there's probably something you haven't tried unless you frequent the place already. For food, they have plenty to choose from. Starter and shareables such as chips & queso, pretzels, flautas, or spinach & artichoke dip. For mains you can grab a salad or a guilty pleasure like burgers, wings, and chicken sandwiches. I've had plenty of the items and have never been disappointed. I definitely recommend the onion rings if you go with a sandwich meal. That's not to say the tots or fries are bad, it's just their onion rings are really on point. On Thursday they do ribeye night, so give it a go if you're looking for something a bit more substantial. Service - 4* I've found generally speaking the service is pretty good when ordering at the bar. They can get a little busy at times and slow, but never egregious. Everyone is quite friendly when you ask questions and looking for some recommendations. Cost - 4.25* Always subjective, for me, I find their pricing pretty good for an above average pint and burger. If I were to knock it a little, I think some of the larger brewers "easy drinking" lighter beers could carry a slightly less cost, or maybe run more "specials" to sell at volume with thinner margin. Just a suggestion. Overall, I've never been turned off by any of the pricing. It's definitely refreshing to support local brewers and a local bar more than going to some of the more corporate establishments that sit nearby. Overall - 4.5* Whether you live nearby or need a good meetup location for family and friends around the city, this is a spot I'd recommend to anyone seeking a laid back family atmosphere.

Took me a good 30 minutes just to order a bucket of Heinekens. From what I can tell, this place's giving more of a neighborhood dive bar. It was hot and crowded as one can get (probably over capacity if you ask me.. the parking was hard to find in the neighborhoods nearby and we had to walk a good 5-10min), and $35 for a bucket of 6 small Heinekens isn't really the best deal.. but can't blame them. Our large party had a buffet of food - all of it was basic but tasty - panko-breaded chicken tenders, chips and queso, and quesadillas. Service was actually stellar throughout our time here. Bartenders and servers came around to our group frequently to ask if they could get us anything. I did not expect that from a divey bar like this. Val Scott Thomas…read more Y'all were a great team! I was invited out for the battle of the bruschettas and I was treated sublimely. It was wonderful. The food is always great so no complaints there but my brave review is definitely the service. There were laughs, and background information on the restaurant, some of the chefs, and servers and it was also very interesting. We tried so many menu items. We had like three or four boards and several brunch items. Of course, I got the cucumber honey lemonade and I made my friend try it too. Lol. Delicious as always. 10 out of 10. However, I will say that the new battle of the board is not Great like I remember. They had super basic flavors and the ones they did experiment with different combinations were actually pretty disgusting. So, after two boards of those, we got our true blue staple favorites on the original menu. That did the trick! I think I've been to this location once or twice but I absolutely will be coming again!

We stressed that one of the patrons did not want pork, yet the food came out with pork. When they clearly asked the cashier for beef. In turn the manager took the plate back to "remake it" and after a few bites, what do you know crumbles of pork. ‍ The manager stated she understood when advised several times no pork only beef, yet she brought back and refurbished plate that had not been freshly prepared, but picked over and reheated. This is ridiculous!! Additionally, she argues with the patron that they don't have beef when the menu clearly says they do. Great customer service is ensuring the patron received what they pay for and have a great experience. This service was PURE D Trash!! On the flip side these beignets taste like old grease.
