My family was here on vacation so we decided to check out Big John's for dinner one night. I did appreciate that parking wasn't too much of a hassle and that we were seated basically immediately. I had a Grand Canyon Brewing Prickly Pear beer which was pretty good and my dad liked his local beer as well. For mains, we split a full rack of babyback ribs, chopped pork sandwich and chopped chicken sandwich. The chopped pork and the chopped chicken were pretty decent but the babyback ribs were not good. They clung to the bone rather than falling off and they were also kind of cold? I also didn't love the options of sides (being from the south, no mac n cheese at a barbecue restaurant seems wild) and I didn't like that we had to order the cornbread on the side. The cornbread itself was also kind of dry and not that sweet, so not my favorite. We did end up splitting a brownie for dessert which was pretty good. The young hostess was standing there completely disinterested and bored. Told us to sit wherever. Take a seat and another lady takes our drink orders but feels put out when we try to ask her questions about the menu. Then we have someone else come and take our food order. My Airbnb recommended this place for Texas Bbq and it didn't disappoint. In the morning, if you drive past this restaurant you can see their smokers cooking up a storm in front. When I saw the smokers being used I decided to come in for dinner. Service was good and the servers were friendly. Water cups were humongous which I thought was funny. In terms of the food I tried out these. Garden Salad with Chicken - You have to add the chicken, it's a must! Chicken was moist and cooked to perfection. Salad was good and very flavorful. Expectations were not incredibly high for a place we've never heard of or looked for ahead of time, but once we pulled in and saw the smokers in action we knew it was a good choice. If the weather permits, which it probably will, sit outside. It was a great vibe and eating BBQ outside just feels right. We got one big meat platter, plus a salad and a smoked chicken sandwich. In the end, go for the ribs, brisket, and definitely the sausage. The chicken was fine, but the sandwich wasn't piled super high and it just kinda paled in comparison to the other meats we got. Classic sides will treat you well, both the beans and potato salad were great, and as crazy as it sounds...the salad was actually really good. It was nice to have fresh bites in between all the heavy meats. BBQ sauces are on the table, and I gravitated towards the regular house one, out of the three there were to choose from. My only regret is not ordering more ribs and sausage, but by the time we finished we were too full to get anything else. Oh, and that meat platter? The salad was pretty straightforward (too many croutons), and the BBQ was very good. ***3.5 Stars*** Well alrighty then, Big John! I see you! The bbq was actually pretty darn good. Wouldn't say it was the best, but it was certainly tasty and it appeased my appetite. After checking out Horseshoe Bend, I decided to try this place out for lunch. Big John's is one of the busiest restaurants in Page, so I was already expecting to wait. To my surprise, there were several tables open. I guess it pays to visit during the week. Parking is sparse but I was able to find a spot across the street. I was greeted immediately as I walked in and told to sit where I'd like. The interior space is very country-like. I made myself comfortable in a booth near the entrance. I love that their menu has pictures. You'll have a pretty good idea of what you're getting when you order. I ordered the 1/2 rack smoked baby back ribs plate which comes with a side of beans and potato salad or coleslaw. Since I'm not a huge fan of potato salad, I got the the slaw instead. As with most bbq spots, this place definitely ain't cheap (even for California standards). It's also in a touristy area, so I get the higher prices. But for this plate to closet $30, I was expecting larger portions and meatier ribs. The ribs were nicely smoked, almost to a char on the outside. They weren't fall off the bone but they were tender. Again, not the meatiest pieces but they still did the trick. The bbq sauces were all really tasty, but the spicy bbq sauce was my favorite. It wasn't too spicy but still gave just the right amount of heat. The flavor was on point as well. I loved that they had them all on the table so you could pick and choose or try them all. The coleslaw was excellent! Sometimes coleslaw can fall to the wayside when it becomes a bbq side, but this one wasn't watery and it had a nice sweetness to it. The beans were disappointing. They literally tasted like they came out of a can and had little to no seasoning on them. Wish I could have subbed this out for something else. I actually didn't ask because I wanted to try them, but I wouldn't get the beans again if I had a choice. I washed everything down with a Stella. They have a pretty good bottled beer selection here but not much else besides soft drinks which is standard. The best part of this meal was dessert. My server mentioned that they had peach and apple cobbler. Naturally, I went for peach but she suggested that I try the apple. I had never had apple cobbler before and figured that it would taste like apple pie. And it did, but daaayum! It was 10 times better! Whew! I ordered it a la mode with French vanilla ice cream on top. Y'all... I must have died and come back to heaven for real! That apple cobbler was the shiiieeet! It was served warm and the apples were so juicy. The cobbler crust was perfectly flakey. The warm apple sauce mixed with that cold vanilla ice cream was just.... Mmmmm!!! Yes, yes, and yes! I know this place ain't cheap, but you can leave here without having dessert. If they have that apple cobbler on the menu, do yourself a favor GET THAT! Service was great and the staff was so warm and welcoming. Felt like I was eating at somebody's house to be honest. It gives off warm and fuzzy vibes. That Texas hospitality, but make it Arizona! Although I did feel like they skimped out on the portions a bit, it was still really tasty. I can see why this place thrives in this little town of Page. On the way to Monument Valley I noticed Big John's Texas BBQ along the way.  I could not resist.  As we got closer I saw smoke billow from Big John's smoker.  I love the scent of burning wood mixed with beef or pork.  There was a good amount of seating inside and much more outside. It's odd to see a Texas bbq without beef ribs so I ordered a rack of pork ribs.  Loved the flavor of the dry rub which had a perfect balance of black peppercorns and brown sugar.  Pork was almost fall off the bone tender and had a bold smoky flavor from being smoked.  Best pork ribs I've had in a while. Big John's has a good selection of ice cream.  I tried the Huckleberry and vanilla.  Huckleberry was rich and creamy with a sweet huckleberry flavor.  Taste alot like the huckleberry ice cream at the Black Bear Diner.  Vanilla was rich and creamy with a sweet vanilla flavor.  Very tasty but next time I'll double up on the huckleberry. We were leaving Antelope Canyon to head back to Sedona and found this restaurant on Yelp with pretty good reviews so decided to give them a try (especially since we're from Texas lol). When we came in host at the counter was very welcoming and allowed us to sit where we wanted. We were served by Trinity and she was great to us. I didn't want anything too heavy since I was the driver so I just got a brisket sandwich and a sausage link. I really enjoyed the sandwich especially wit the mix of the spicy and sweet bbq sauce that they offered. I thought the sausage was just okay, it was missing some flavor and a kick to me. The general consensus was that everyone pretty much enjoyed their respective meals. I think the beans was probably everyone's least favorite item. My cousin got the peach cobbler and I was able to try a bit and wasn't too bad either although I like my crust a bit thicker/ crispy but that's personal preference. We ordered BBQ brisket sandwich and 1/2 rack ribs w/ sides coleslaw and beans. The brisket had a good flavor, not fatty and reasonable portion. Meat was room temperature, should have been at least warm. Ribs were also good. We liked the sauces, sweet & original were both good. My advice is to skip the sides - both coleslaw and beans were absolutely flavorless and tasted terrible. For the spendy prices, they should put forth better effort with the sides.
