Tteokbokki (rice cake and fish cake)

Went here after our Antelope Canyon tour.We were really excited because it's very rare that you get to see a korean restaurant in a small town and it's rated well. Sad to say my husband and I was super DISAPPOINTED. THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE KIMCHI FOR BANCHAN! We ordered the soybean soup and tteokbokki. For the price we paid, their serving is very little. The soybean soup didn't have that much meat, tofu and veggies like it said in their menu description. It has very good flavor but wished it's packed with ingredients (Paid $17 for it). The tteokbokki is flavorful too but again serving is so little.

An authentic Korean restaurant at Page, Az. We had a dinner here on our visit to horseshoe bend and antelope canyon. It was a very busy Tuesday night maybe because of spring break. The owner is apologetic for slow service. The wait is worth it for us because the food are delicious. We ordered jap chae, bibbibamp bowl, and Galbi tang. I highly recommend it.

Very good food!! You must eat and try!! Korean food in town like no other!! Kimchi and the sides hit the spot!! First timer and enjoyed the music on screen. Not fancy but great food!! Authentic, I came back soon to try the soups

Found dinner here after a long day at horseshoe bend and antelope canyon! The restaurant itself is quite small but we were luckily able to get the last table. Service was friendly and we were able to order quickly. Although two of the items we ordered ended up being out of stock, the beef bulgogi, spicy pork bulgogi, and a beef soup were quite good! Interestingly, each banchan flight came with different items.

    You call it fired chicken?

BirdHouse - Half chicken and fries with ranch

Walking into Birdhouse, a converted drive-through restaurant, at 6PM, we were greeted with a short…read moreline wrapping around the order counter. It moves pretty quickly since the menu, full of fried chicken and staple sides, isn't too complicated. Birdhouse is a counter service establishment so the food doesn't take very long at all to cook and assemble. In our case it took only about 10 minutes. Thigh + Leg, Original ($11) - Instead of the advertised thigh and leg, the meal came with 3 pieces of chicken - one leg and 2 thighs! It wasn't just us; I saw other customers also getting three pieces. Finally a restaurant that underpromises and overdelivers! The breading on the chicken is a really dark golden brown, initially making me assume it was overfried. Biting into the breading, a really strong crunch shatters on the teeth. It's a hard crunch vs. the crisp that a normal fried chicken skin exhibits. Perhaps they enhance the mixture with rice flour and evercrisp? It's really quite amazing especially with how thin the breading looks. Even with the dark color, the interior remains moist and juicy; in fact, upon my first bite, a stream of chicken juice shot up onto my glasses! The meat has clearly been brined as it's super flavorful, and there's plenty of salt and pepper mixed into the breading to add even more oomph. The fat is rendered nicely and everything is served piping hot. They really know what they are doing with their chicken! A meal comes with one side of which we went with the Seasoned Fries. These are crinkle cut fries sprinkled with seasoning salt. The fry level isn't the most even, with some pieces being a little more dried out, but most still having tender interiors. I'd probably go with a different side in the future. (5/5) Thigh + Leg, Honey Butter ($11) - I believe this is literally the same fried chicken but with honey butter melted over the top. It adds some richness and sweetness, but is otherwise the same excellent fried chicken. For the side with this meal, we went with the Broccoli Salad w/ Bacon. It's pieces of crunchy raw broccoli mixed with tiny pieces of bacon in a light creamy dressing with a bit of sweetness. (5/5) Birdhouse makes their sauces in house which they supply for most orders. The first is their special honey mustard which, as the name implies, is sweet and mustardy. The second is a buttermilk ranch, creamy and tangy. It's very fresh and seems to have fresh herbs mixed in. After several days eating bland (but very fresh!) food in the Navajo Nation, we finally had a meal with actual seasoning! We were impressed enough that we went back the next day to try the final chicken flavor. This time it was earlier at 5PM and for some reason the line was even longer! Yet it took less than 5 minutes for the food to arrive. Thigh + Leg, Spicy ($11) - The base chicken is the same texture and flavor as above. The only difference is a liberal dusting of cayenne pepper spice mixture on top. They don't use any hot oil, so it's only dry spice on the outside, applied right after frying so it all sticks on. The powder is spicy enough to heat up the mouth and lips, but isn't enough to get me sweating at all. I'd compare to something between mild and medium at a hot chicken shop. There's just a hint of sweetness in the mixture - I actually wished it was boosted up a bit more. Still great fried chicken though! (5/5) Birdhouse really serves some great fried chicken. Reasonably priced, delicious food, great portions, there's not much more I could ask for. It was so good that we ended up eating here both nights we stayed in Page! Bathrooms - Single unisex room outside on the back side of the restaurant.

Three star reviews: I understand the 3 star reviews some folks have provided. Compared to big city locations it might be below some expectations. I'm pretty critical and straight forward in my reviews and I gave "sunset 89" - 5 stars. Was it the best place I've eaten and experienced -no. But for the area and our vacation - it was the best place we ate at. Normally: If this was a place in my hometown I'd probably give it a 3 star. Cost: The cost was a little high. But everything was a bit high in this vacation spot. We split the short rib bowl between two. If you are real hungry then it should easily fill you up but you should not share then.

The teriyaki bowl was tender and flavorful with just the right amount of sauce, and the galbi was well-marinated, juicy, and grilled perfectly. I also appreciated the Korean kimchi on the side--it was clean, flavorful, and paired really well with the dishes. We also tried the seafood salad and a few rolls, and everything tasted fresh and light, making the meal feel nicely balanced. What really stood out was the customer service. So we ended up with just fried rice. We do not like a lot of spice, and prefer to let good flavor speak for itself. But in this case, some spice may have helped... The fried rice was super bland. Basically no flavor at all. $18 for very basic rice. The pineapple fried rice was exactly the same thing with the addition of a few chunks of pineapple. The noodles were fabulous and we basically fought for the last bit - looser got stuck with the rice. The Thai iced tea is a generous portion and helped raise our spirits over the otherwise unfortunate choice in restaurants.

The server was the waiter, cashier, bascially was everything. I was visiting from Los Angeles and wanted to try out the Korean food around here. Firstly, the one guy was really really selfish. And his attitude towards my family was so rude. He assumed we were like poor Chinese farmers that had never eaten Korean food. Although we were Chinese, we were dressed like normal people who had a normal personality and attitude. He literally also 'taught' us how to use bowls, and what we use them for. It was pretty humiliating. Second, the Korean army pot's food were okay, but the rice cakes and ramen costed extra even though the whole thing was already $45. The extras were $3.45 each. Also, the spam and rice cakes were cut in half; I guess to save money. Everything was really cheap, and the guy was just way too talkative, even getting anxious when our 4 person family wanted more than one set of the Korean side dishes. Lastly, he called out to us when we left, just to say he needed to count the cash. Also, they automatically put the tips in(about 15% for 1-4 people and 18% for 5 or more). I guess that was reasonable but when he was talking, his spot got onto my hands, and he even commented how I wasn't talking that much, but I was just really hungry. By the way, my family members were already ordering. I feel like 2 stars is already really too much.
