As I am a beach person, I love the beachy colors and and vibe of Big Lick. I have eaten there before but not for a long time and I can tell you that the fried shrimp was outstanding. I rarely say anything is outstanding but the shrimp were perfectly fried, not overly breaded or tough. And the portion size was more than generous! Their fries were the perfect texture of crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Sooo good! My husband ordered chicken quesadilla and said that they were the best he's ever had. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. If I had to say anything negative, it would be that the silverware was on the cheap side but the food was so good, it didn't really detract from the dining experience. So glad we decided to go there. ******************DISAPPOINTED****************** Sometimes, when behavior is blatantly ugly, it needs to be called out Therefore, sadly, sharing my experience with the hostess, manager, our waiter Andrew, and the security guard at @ BIG LICKS restaurant in Lynchburg VA. Celebrating my birthday with about 8 friends on the dining side, our waiter Andrew arranged tables near the door so we could hear the band...the teenage host couldn't hear folks coming in TO BE SEATED? so the door was closed. After myself, and the table behind us requested it be open, NOPE. Hostess wants it shut. Then came the " power play" that was ugly to watch! We asked the teenage manager about it, she sided with the host, and stood in solidarity with her at the door, and within a few moments the big bad security guard was in place with the hostess, making sure the senior citizens wanting to enjoy and celebrate weren't "out of control?" Later in the evening we all moved over to the band side to dance and enjoy the night. When we were leaving, I couldn't find my flowers a friend brought me, that had been inadvertently left on the table in the dining area.I was told by the security guard and Andrew that my flowers had been thrown out and were in the dumpster!!!! Great deals here and live music! My go to if I'm really hungry is the Cajun pasta and if I want to be healthy I'll get the strawberry fields salad. Both are very good. I do not recommend getting seafood. Someone ordered the calamari and you could smell the stench throughout the whole restaurant. They have a fairly large outdoor patio and lots of parking. Staff here are nice and it is a huge local/regular spot. Expect more of a red neck hangout than a tropical grill. read more

Overall, a good place to eat with friends and family! The wait staff and greeters are friendly and professional. The ambiance is good for conversations, and they have a couple of sections that can be used for private parties. TVs all around usually on sports channels and a bar. Why just good instead of great? To be honest this place was bad me and my brother came wit my mom we were both allowed to the bare because we were underage that's is not what the problem is we were sat down inside and were treated differently by the staff seemed to be because were underage and took 15 minutes to brand our drinks and about the same for fries but seemed to go a lot faster for the adults over all that was the only issue read more

I'm not sure why this is considered Caribbean food. We got the pretzels and the fried calamari as our appetizers. The pretzels were hard and the calamari didn't have much flavor. Always great service and diverse menu. This particular visit we had a group of thirty for Friday lunch. Kelly served us with help from the owner. Kelly is the hardest working, most efficient server in the Lynchburg area. Everyone was served with few delays. I had the steak wrap with the meat was cooked to perfection. This is a fun, cheap and local place with a different atmosphere for the area. Big Licks is tucked away off of Odd Fellows rd and is a great place to meet with friends after work. It is a little older and not the cleanest place around, but it is what it is. They offer live music on Wednesdays and some other nights as well. They also have one of the better deck atmospheres in the area. The place has a tropical theme similar to Margaritaville. A downside is that the lounge area, where the music is, still allows smoking and gets pretty thick in there. The food is ok and the service is decent, but people come here more for the cheap prices and fun feel. A great place if you are looking to hang out with the "locals" and hear some music. read more

Oddly enough, Big Lick was the original name of Roanoke; I will let you determine how that came about, but in any case, this place is probably the liveliest and most fun joint in the Lynchburg area. Big Lick is a low-key, casual affair: lots of wood and a semi-tropical flair.. sort of a tiki-ish vibe, with a dash of honky-tonk. They offer a very good happy hour and the food is cheap. I do believe that any entree is $7.95. Apps are higher. What do you get for your eight big ones? Something almost always fried, but tasty. Generally large portions and plenty of selection to keep everyone in your group happy. I am a fan of the "Big Fish" which is essentially fish & chips - but they aren't kidding - it is a big slab o whiting... nice. Bartenders are very good and there is usually music on the weekends- they do not have a webpage, but they are on Facebook and they seem to keep that up to date with music listings. The bands are very good in general. Do go with a group - this is a very fun place. Probably the most fun you can legally have in this boring town. The place gets busy, particularly on nights with live music. Plenty of room to dance to the tunes and there is a pretty large outside deck area as well. I have always loved Big Licks. We will only go there for lunch. Lunch time is not crowed - the way I like it. They changed their menu. At first, I didn't think I was going to like it. But we tried new things, calamari , crab/lobster dip ect. They kept some of the old favorites, chicken fried chicken, buffalo chicken wrap ect. We went back after the new owners took over. I will start with the positive. The prices are great and they have Diet Mtn. Dew! My dinner-mate has the surf and turf burger and said it was very good. The fries were just frozen fries. It is also a good place if you like very loud and live music. Now the cons. I ordered the fish tacos and they were awful. The fish was slimy and not blackened as described. The sour cream was not lime sour cream as described. The rice tasted like Uncle Bens and did not have mangoes as described. The quality of the food left much to be desired. After today - Big Lick No More Our group has been coming to Big Lick about 5 times in June and July. We have from 3 to 10 people. One person in the group has Celiac Disease and cannot have wheat gluten. His choices are very limited to either a salad or the pork chop plate. He always orders the grilled pork chop plate which includes green beans and mashed potatoes. There is an ingredient in the mashed potatoes that contains wheat, so they have always been able to substitute potato salad for the mashed potatoes. Not today! The waitress said there would be an extra charge for the substitution. We asked for the manager, and she said that no matter what anyone had said before, that a "salad" substitution is $1.00 extra. I realize that $1.00 is not a great deal of money. It is the principle of the thing. This guy cannot have anything containing wheat gluten. It is not because he "prefers" one thing over the other. The first 4 times they gladly substituted the potato salad for the mashed potatoes. Now, they want to charge extra. What have they accomplished? They have lost our group's business. read more

I came to the restaurant on Friday the 13th. I come often, we have the same lunch time waitress everytime - she is SO sweet. But this particular Friday it was busier than usual. I ordered a burger. First time ordering one from this restaurant and it was so well done and had no seasoning that I only ate half.
