We love Big Lots and this is our "go-to" location for all of our desert home needs. It's not the most beautiful store, but they always have everything we're looking for and even some things we weren't. The staff is always friendly and very helpful, and there's plenty of parking. Maria was excellent! Great customer service However the guys who delivered the sectional I purchased did not assemble anything! If I would have known the 80 bucks was just for "shipping" only I would have just picked up the sofas myself. Never in my life have I experienced sofas just being dropped off with no reassembly. Found some lovely goodies in this Big Lots - great selection of hair care products (if you're not a name brand seeker), an abundance of candy, great deals on cereal and lots of portable heaters. I wish I'd bought the portable heater that they had for around ~$15. I haven't been able to find one at that price since then. All around, a pretty typical Big Lots. I'm sure it's an ever-changing selection of goods. When I was there - they were gearing up for Christmas (in October). It would be great if they had more tills - or at least had more than one open. I only saw two in total - maybe I missed some? - but I can see there being long queues. We had to wait 5+ minutes until the second till was opened. Staff weren't overly friendly, but you're not paying for customer service, necessarily. I don't think we even got a thank you - or the price of our bill - just it being up on the register. Just visited store and was told I may purchase inflatable floor display. Last one left. When I asked to proceed with purchase store manager Jesse said, no you can't buy that. The employee didn't know what she was talking about. He was rude and I question why it could not be sold when other floor models have been sold to customers. I shop at BIG LOTS quite often. They always have a good selection of items that I need, and I always save money when I purchase certain things at BIG LOTS rather than at a regular store. Today's visit was a good as always. I needed to very basic 4" x 6" frames, which were in stock and were a great price at $4. each. I was quite impressed by Darius, the young man at the check out line. He was very courteous and had a big smile for me and each of the two customers in front of me. He gave me the receipt and asked that I fill out the survey, and circled the area on the receipt. However, I could not find the info regarding the survey and I decided to write about the nice experience here. We made a poor decision and bought furniture from Big Lots. Of course it fell apart. Here's the kicker, we bought the warranty and jumped through the hoops and were 'approved'. Big Lots has pretended to send Big Lots credit proof in the mail, 7 times. It was never sent. 6 times we have had to have a long phone calls to get another one sent. It is a full scam by Big Lots and employees. I am creating a website to get others who have been scammed by Big Lots together for a class action lawsuit. read more

There was a woman named Valerie at the check stand and I did not appreciate her service at all. She was nice at first until she asks you to donate to their stores fundraiser. I don't believe you should guilt people into donating especially if you do not know what their current situation is. After we told her we will not be donating, she proceeded to say "I guess you don't like children, huh?" At this point I had to look at my boyfriend and bite my tongue, as I am not a very nice person when pushed. My boyfriend replied nicely, and she said again, "well you don't like sick children either I guess." She then continued to guilt trip us until we left the store. I have not been in this Big Lot for over a year due to the Pandemic but was there yesterday to look at an end table (to use outside) I saw advertised. Unfortunately I have to agree with the negative comments regarding Customer Service. Was in the furniture area and there was an associate who sat never offered any assistance. Another assoicate came down and was beginning to ask me if I need assistance. I opened my mouth to ask a question and the original associate ( she must have gone into the back) came out of wherever she went. The man, supposedly starting to help me, turned around and went to talk to her. I literally was left standing with my mouth open (words had not yet come out with my question). I stayed in the area for a while expecting one of them to come offer assistance. Never happened, as they remained in conversation with each other. This is not whining, this is about Customer Service and especially since there was no other customers in the area. From this experience only, it appears that Customer Service is not one of this Big Lot's main focus. I do have add that after I left that area (without my questions answered without the table) I did some more light shopping. The check out clerk was a little hesitant at first when I approached the counter (I don't know what that reaction was all about but I can venture a guess) but she was courteous and friendly during the actual check out process. I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone They're employees are ALL grossly incompetent If you buy any furniture, as we did And you plan to have their delivery service deliver it to you, COUNT ON, them NOT to have a clue or know anything about it when they get there to pick it up Also, plan on the fact that if you don't pick it up at the time of purchase, they may just sell it to someone else As they did with the items we purchased So we ended up with the floor displays instead Their employees are largely rude and seem to lack even the basics of customer service Doing little more than repeating back to you what you just said "like a trained parrot could do" You might as well be talking to a fence post And don't count on the Manager that helped you being there the next day He's gone and of course the next days manager is totally and completely useless and well ..... just plan on starting over Which we've done now three times Funny no one and I mean NO ONE takes any responsibility and they act as though they're doing you a favor These people suck almost beyond words and was the worst retail experience I've had in my entire life read more

I recently bought furniture from this location and it was a very lengthy process due to the pieces being out of stock. During the whole process, the furniture department led by Tim was so unbelievable!! They worked so hard to keep everything organized for me and got me the lowest prices. I am 65 years old. My income is not what I wish it was, so I like to shop at places like Big Lots. This store is about 5 miles from my house so, to save money, I ride my bicycle. After making my purchase i found that my tire was flat. No cell phone, and no pay phones anywhere. I went back into the store to ask to use a cell phone because the prefix for the phone at home is not 760. Lisa, the manager, refused, without any explanation. Here is what gets me. I was a customer, I needed help that would be hard to find.She was unyielding. Meantime, I asked for my money back because I didn't appreciate their customer relations. I wanted to give the money to the clerk who tried to help me. The clerk looked sheepishly at the manager, who was fuming, and the clerk said, "Oh, no, we cannot accept cash. Went in last night and for some reason my big lots credit card wouldn't go through. So the nice cashier asked if I wanted to talk to the Manager, I said yes. When he came over, Mike (Manager)made this face like we were bothering him. And was rude as hell, asked what I needed. I told him for some reason my card wouldn't go through which I have a 2000.00 limit and available. Mike (Manager) told me I needed to call them because they have nothing to do with their own credit card. Today, I called and found out that it was the wrong card and the Manager could've looked it up. I will never shop that this location again. I would prefer to give my business to Internet now. Visiting the store on a Saturday, when there were many customers in the store, I was surprised at check-out to find only ONE cashier on duty, who was taking a long time to process this guy's very large order, while the line of customers waiting to check out was at 8 people. She then started explaining their rewards program to this guy, going through a lengthy process to sign him up, oblivious to the number of customers waiting in line. She finally called for help, and a young guy appeared and started checking people out--this cashier guy said nothing when I approached the counter, no apology for my long wait, and when he was finished ringing me up, handed me my receipt, all without uttering a single word. Deplorable customer service! Seriously, on a Saturday when the store is busy, only one cashier and a second cashier added only when 8+ customers are waiting in line?? Who is not managing this place? Let me just start by saying that if i could not give any stars, I would!!! Recently (06-13-14) I visited your Big Lots store located in Cathedral City, CA. While I was able to find some items that I was very pleased with, upon check out my visit became VERY VERY unpleasant due to the attitude and rudeness of a store employee. Said employee asked if I had a Rewards card in which I replied that I did not due to the simple fact that I dont shop at Big Lots often and that I would not like to sign up for on. Upon hearing this, said employee insisted that I NEEDED to sign up for a Rewards card. Again I declined. Again, in an even more rude tone of voice, said employee insisted that I sign up. When politely declining for a 3rd time, said employee began to tell me that he was going to laugh in my face the next time I shopped at Big Lots and was unable to save extra because I failed to sign up for the Rewards card. I have shopped for many many years at Big Lots and have NEVER had an experience like this. I expect a certain level of professionalism and politeness from retail associates but that seemed to be lost on this one employee. While I will not say that I will stop shopping at any Big Lots stores, I will most certainly say that I will not be shopping at the Big Lots store in Cathedral City anymore. Disastrous visit there today. An alarm was sounding by the entrance. I go in and get two small items I need. The checkout clerk could not seem to complete the transaction for the customer ahead of me. A long wait. Finally, the customer gives up, leaves the merchandise and goes out. I step up to the counter and put my items there. The clerk says nothing and does not make eye contact. She's looking at something on the register. Time passes. A second employee arrives. Does she take over checking customers out? No. She also says nothing and avoids eye contact. They are discussing the alarm. Now there are three people in line. The second clerk tells the first to answer the phone because it's more important than waiting on customers. I kid you not. Long wait. A third employee arrives. (The first two are still there, doing I know not what.) He stands behind the counter and says nothing. Avoids eye contact. I ask, "Is anyone going to sell me these items?" He says rudely, "Yeah, yeah. I'll take care of it." I pay and say thank you. None of the clerks say anything or look up. I leave. What is going on with this place? Who is training these employees? Been to this Big Lots a few times and it's ok. Very clean, and very friendly staff. Also, nothing can beat the prices on items. Was a little disappointed to find that they really don't have much of a selection of furniture, but it's Big Lots so I didn't have high expectations anyway. They told me that the assembly of my bunk beds would only take one hour at most from the moving company. Come to find out it took 2 and 1/2 hours to complete the set up. Therefore making me look like the bad guy when checking in on the employees of the moving company. However by seeing all the stuff they had to go through to set up the bunk beds I was surprised it only took them as long as it did. Big lots should not make unrealistic expectations for their customers! I would recommend that if you buy anything that requires assembly to do your homework your self and plan accordingly before you try to take on any projects. Big Lots said that it would only take me about 2 hours if I wanted to set up my bunk beds myself. Thank heavens I listened to my gut and asked if the moving company would set it up for me. read more

This Big Lots is not your typical "values" store. The manger of this store is a man by the name of Jay Schindler, Mr Schindler cares about people and that was proven to me this past weekend 11/06/2012. I have always found the staff at this store helpful and friendly, however, this past weekend, the shift manager on duty, was less than friendly or helpful. I had a lengthy in store conversation with Mr. Jay Schindler (Store manger) the next day, and he not only apologized, but made me feel certain that this situation would be dealt with. I have visited this store on no less than 75 ocassions over the years, and have never had a problem, but as we all know, there's a first time for everything. Another store employee, Stephanie Myers, who I have known since I started shopping at this store, was very helpful the day of the incident getting me names and numbers to assist me in lodging my formal complaint. She too, apologized for the behavior of the shift manager and did everything she could to defuse the situation that day before I was able to speak to her store manager the next day. I will continue to enjoy shopping at this Big Lots, not just for the merchandise values, but mainly because of the employees and management who work hard and seem to care about their customers. Went there for the first time yesterday and bought a partial patio set that was on sale. Got home to realize that it was missing two cushions. I called and the lady I spoke to said I would have to come back the next day. I called again the next day and spoke to an assistant manager and asked if I could just come pick up the missing cushions, she said that I would have to bring the whole patio set back. So I did, got there and the girl working the register looked at my receipt, called the stockroom and asked one of the guys to bring up the cushions. Not once did anyone look in the box or explain why I had to repack the patio set and bring it back. Worst customer service ever, I will not be shopping here again. read more
