I found Otafuku Okonomiyaki mix for two servings. I wasn't expecting to find it at Walmart! The company has been around since 1922 and is still family owned. They fed the populace after the war, when things were really bad. I know people who lived it and listened to the stories. I've noticed many foods, on the shelves that used to be found only in specialty and ethnic markets. It's becoming more interesting to peruse the store.

There are other places for such standard equipment, but we were short on time so this was a very quick trip in and out. Yet, because it was only one minute after closing, the lady I believe was the manager refused to let me check out and said, "We closed 1 minute ago." Today is March 17, 2026, and this happened at 7:01 PM. I went to Job Lot just before closing and had a basket full of merchandise ready to purchase. At 7:01 PM, a lady who I assume was the manager came up to me and told me the store was closed. I politely asked if I could simply check out the items already in my cart, but she told me absolutely not because they had closed 1 minute earlier. If you review the security camera footage and timing, you will see that it was literally 7:01 PM. This Job Lot is only 2 minutes from my house, and I have been a loyal customer for many years. After the way I was treated today, I will no longer shop there. I also plan to share this experience with my friends, family, and Facebook community, because what happened was unprofessional, disrespectful, and very disappointing.

Of course, sales and discounts will help significantly, and there is a decent amount to choose from the racks. The most recent closures have been Kmart, Burlington, and Silver Cinemas (which all had a long run for many years) along with smaller space stores at the new strip mall. There have been some opening of stores in series, but I do know for a fact that some spaces haven't even opened up yet since The Shoppes at South Hills existed. The costs are probably really high, making it challenging for these businesses to open. I believe the location off Route 9 doesn't have the best visibility since it's up on a hill to make it a success. There are not that many stores to offer, but with enough open now, it can still be the potential to last for many years, just in a slow process. The opening of At Home Furniture Decor is set to open soon in the former Kmart space.
