There's also a pretty humongous wine selection that takes up lots of space. A typical looking liquor store in a strip mall on Sunset next to a parking lot. It's not that big but it has tons of stuff. There's beers, liquors, and wines. A lot of local beers in the coolers. There's also plenty of local wines. Prices are okay for around here. The good stuff is located behind the counter, so you have to ask the clerk to get these. For liquor stores it's pretty good. It's got lots of typical and more interesting stuff. They have a great selection of wine at reasonable competitive prices including so solid organic and craft style craft brew and biodynamic wine options. All the essential snack and goodies you could want and a personable staff. I stopped in and grabbed a few of my favorite Hard Kombuchas by Booch Craft for the night after so shopping up the way... Soooo LA, right? hahaha Considering they're partnered with Wine Warehouse I was a little surprised they don't offer bulk buying deals for large quantities of wine as I considered a half case to stock up as well as for a friend's birthday gift, but I ain't even mad as Big Mac's... it's still a big hit. Lighting and decor is a little dated, but also has this nice vintage-esque charm. For the past 6-7 years, Big Mac's has been my neighborhood go-to whenever I need to pick up some drinks or dog ice cream (yes, ice cream for dogs). It's in a very walkable area and they also have a parking lot. And an ATM! Everyone who works here is quite friendly and they've even stocked specific snacks when we've asked for them. I've always been able to find whatever alcohol I'm looking for--from Fernet to soju (in different sizes, no less). They also have a great revolving selection of craft beers and a growing collection of natural wines that are fun to try. Lastly, I want to say thank you to everyone at Big Mac's for always making me feel safe and comfortable when I visit. As a small woman, I have had some unpleasant experiences at other convenience / liquor stores--especially alone at night. So this is my neighborhood liquor store. I go here so often in fact that around christmas time they gave us shirts. This is seriously the best liquor store ever. They have a sale section that never changes, and their sales are quite stunning. They even have a decent 5 dollar bottle of vodka for when you needs a drink, but are balling on a budget. The big jug of cutty sark (which I am currently in love with) is permanetly 25 bucks. Yes please. Their atm machine also only charges you 50cents. Big Mac's is a neighborhood staple for pretty much everything, whether you need that evening emergency jim hat, a bottle of something special to enjoy together before using that jimmy, or some Kleenex and some Gatorade for after you've used that jim hat. This is where I go to get my bottle of Coke Zero, the occasional pack of batteries and ponder the wisdom of buying a Hostess Sno Balls pack while waiting to use the most affordable independent ATM machine in all of Los Angeles (just 50 cents). They also have a decent collection of periodicals which are fronted by covers of women in bikinis with ample bumps in the trunk (also enjoyed while waiting in line for the ATM). Liquor stores are basically all the same: Liquor, chips, lottery tickets, whatever. So, the little things count, and with Big Mac's, it's seems like they go out of there way to draw your attention to these little things, and illustrate how annoying they can be if they go the wrong way. To wit: 1) They have prominently displayed an unattractive, impolite "no dogs" sign. I have a nineteen pound cocker spaniel -- the employees wouldn't even let me hold her while I ran in to grab a water. 2) They steadfastly uphold their debit card minimum as though it were law. Everything else about the store is fine (though nothing is outstanding). So, Big Mac, please consider why you have these rules in the first place, and that it's your store -- you can make all the exceptions you want. They aren't laws. I walk by everyday -- I'm a dog-walker -- and you are losing my business because of these strict policies. No reviews for Big Macs yet? Well that's just wrong. Great neighborhood emergency supplies/ATM/liquor store. Best things about Big Macs: 1) The wine selection really is decent and the $2 more per bottle you'll occasionally pay over Trader Joes prices is SO WORTH IT to not have to deal with the TJs parking lot on Hyperion. And sometimes their specials and sales on wine are comparable. 2) the ATM fee is only .50, not counting what your bank will add on (last I used it, anyway) 3) they don't look at you funny when you stumble in on a Thursday morning still in your pajamas to buy Half-n-Half with a handful of dimes and nickels. 4) same prices on Ben & Jerry's ice cream as those at Hyperion Gelsons. 5) limited selection of low fat Ben & Jerry's ice cream (makes saying f&$k it so much easier) 6) They sell cold Pear Cider - yum. 7) the oh so subtle look of disapproval when I bought a pack of cigarettes after quitting for 2 years. My spot! I go here all the time because it's so conveniently located to where I live. The staff is right on radical motha shut yo moufs!!!! Cheap beer, 1$ extra ATM, great booze selection, and for some reason I always seem to win their scratchers when I impulsively decide to buy one. Big Mac's has been my neighborhood purveyor of distilled spirits for the past seven years, and I love them. They are really friendly, and the place has a definite neighborhood vibe. When I haven't been in for a while one of the clerks always jokes that he was wondering what happened to me and hoped I was okay (a huge compliment, I'm sure!). They have a pretty good wine selection for a liquor store, and some really good deals on larger bottles of liquor, like Jameson. Cons: OK, so this is a corner liquor store, so their prices are not the best (though I've seen worse.) Pros: That said, their selection is actually pretty good, and the people behind the counter are friendly. The parking lot is small, but you can usually get a spot (part of the lot is reserved for those parking for 15 minutes max (and you better believe they enforce it since they're close to Sunset Junction, so I wouldn't try it, word to the wise...) They're also pretty good at giving out matches (even if you don't buy cigs), a dollar's worth of quarters, that sort of thing. Bottom line:Good place to go when I am too lazy or tired to go to the supermarket. read more

Worst service ever! I just came by to grab some snakes and the Chinese guy is staring at me as I walk around the store and I thought it was pretty weird so I walk up to the front and he yells to me "WHERE DO YOU WANT TO PARK!?" I say what are you talking about I parked in the front he then tells me "yes I seen your car you can't park there aren't you going up the street?" I said no don't you see me in your store shopping. I came to buy snacks then he tells "no you didn't come here to buy you came here to sneak a parking and you can't come here" at this time I'm so shocked I don't even know what to say then I dropped my things and left and as I'm walking out he tells me "get out of here" then come to find out there was a store up the street doing a shoe raffle for some rare Kanye West shoes and majority of the people are black and I'm black so I feel racially profiled and I'm extremely upset read more

Big Mac's is in the mini-mall on the NE corner of Sunset and Lucile. I've lived up the hill for over thirty years, since it was on the NW corner and owned by Big Mac himself. They've always been of and for the neighborhood. Their prices are slightly high, because they're independent, but they're friendly and accommodating, unless you want them to break their rules, which are reasonable and are to help them stay a viable business. Reasonable people understand that. Look at the overall rating. Big Mac's is the best. read more
