This was my first time at Big Mike's in Moundville. Our waitress was Ensleigh and she was the sweetest! She was extremely helpful and her recommendations did NOT disappoint. She also makes really good drinks! We went on a Thursday a little after 5 before a holiday weekend and they were very busy. When you go make sure you go when there isn't anything going on in town. The food is very good. The seafood was fresh and the steak was grilled well and juicy. The portions and prices are reasonable. I had looked forward to this for days, but sadly, I was very disappointed. I ordered the 8 oz sirloin medium. The taste of the meat was bitter. My husband's steak tasted fine, but mine was horrible. I ordered the twice baked casserole and not only was it in Apple Supply, but it was delicious. That was not the case with my order of steamed asparagus. Visiting Big Mikes Steakhouse was certainly worth the 1 hour 20 min drive to Moundville, Al! We came in on a Thursday around 530 pm and it was already pretty busy. Thankfully, we didn't have a wait and were seated immediately. Our server was very attentive and did a really nice job throughout our meal. No appetizers we just jumped right into ordering our entrees. My mom ordered chopped steak with potato and salad. I ordered a ribeye (medium +) , potato and salad. A medium temperature would have been more enjoyable. The med plus was slightly overcooked to me. I'll remember this for next time. We both enjoyed our entrees but we both needed to go boxes. We also ordered to go desserts. One slice of caramel cake and one slice of carrot cake. I didn't like the caramel cake and the carrot cake was decent. The inside is huge. Great for large parties! Food was outstanding. Best steaks ever! Thick, tender and flavorful. Baked potato was good too. Fried mushrooms were very good and the service was good too. Salad was a little small. The interior is not luxurious. The wooden chair were hard. No tiles or paint on the concrete floor. The place is rustic. You go there for the food, not the atmosphere. Winning an award for your food awhile back doesn't mean you get to start slacking. I ordered a dirty martini, because they have them in their drink menu and literally got one in a rocks glass. I inquired about it for my next drink and was told there isn't a single martini glass in the building. Every table wobbles, the service sucks. Our server forgot our salads, we had to ask for them. A split entree doesn't come split even though they charge for it with 2 extra sides. You can grill a better steak at home. Save your money. read more

The sauce on it is similar to the "bang bang" shrimp a lot of restaurants have. The mozzarella wedges were good but they were a little too cheesy if that makes sense. I can't really explain it but it's almost as if the cheese was too thick. The big Mike was delicious! One of the best steaks I've had in a long time. The loaded baked potato was baked to perfection and those potato wedges were sent from heaven The rooster cowboy was good but the steak would be my go to! However, the chicken was seasoned down and the bbq sauce/ bacon/ cheese blend was everything. The side salad with the meal was just okay to me. I don't have to have it again. If you're ever in the area, def give them a try! The staff was friendly. The atmosphere kinda gives you Cracker Barrel. Heard great things about Big Mike's. It did not live up to the hype. Our party arrived at 5:33 and didn't get seated until 7:00 on an estimated 45 min wait. We ordered Ribeyes, Baseball Top Sirloins, Crab Cakes, and chicken entrees. The ribeyes were good and came out medium as ordered. The other steaks were ordered medium and arrived on the far side of medium well and well done. The chickens looked more like turkey breasts and were so overcooked that they had to be sawed with a steak knife. The crab cakes were giant crab flavored overcooked hush puppies. Probably should have complained to the management, but couldn't tell which teenager was in charge. In all, horrible experience and would not recommend anyone waste their time or money on mediocre food. Longhorn or Logan's would be a much better and more affordable alternative. read more

My kids & friends, 10-12 including 2-3 children, went to Big Mikes yesterday, February 3 2024. One of their party went to hostess to sign in, was told wasn't sure when they would be seated because there were two parties of 13 & 17 were expected. She ask hostess, you said reservations were not accepted why are you waitng for them when we're already here. was told we'll get yall as soon as possible. waiting area was full so they had to wait in seating area outside. it was cold! probably in the 40's degree. they checked back periodically , "awhile longer" meanwhile the 2 big parties expected hadn't arrived. checked back, "little longer". the 2 big parties arrived. last time checked with hostess was told will be seated by 9pm. after almost 2 hours our party left with being seated. read more

we were told there would be a 1/2 hour wait for a table, we were not called to our table for 45 after that. A table that came in 20 minutes after us had their food right before we even got our salads. in total, we waited 2 1/2 hours for our food. the result?... a steak that was ordered medium rare was rare and barely even warm, a medium steak was delivered well done, another was too dry. Ok food was fantastic and a great steak. Food would be a 5 star. The server was great and should be a 5. The reason for a 3 is because of extremely long wait. Went with a party of 8. Thought they opened at 4:00. Got there at 3:30 found out opened at 3:00. At that point we were told it would be an hour weight, which we were fine with. They kept telling us there is a large party in front of you. But you are next. They would seat the party. Then seat another big party. We would ask again. We would be told again y'all are next. They would seat another big party. Two plus hours we are finally seated. There were two people with diabetes in the party who were getting hungry and I explained that to them. I just kept hearing we would be next, but we watched as they kept seating other parties. So was very unhappy about that..... i would rather you tell me up front two hours so I can make a decision to stay or leave. But no. Not the case so we were all very unhappy about that. I recently ate here with my youngest nephew. He's just now started liking steak and loves their filet mignon. He waited for a week to go and was very excited. This visit, however, did not meet expectations. When we were seated, our hostess put us at a table right by the door, going outside to where they have musical acts. Because we're still in the winter season, it was cold outside. So naturally, I asked if anything was available . I was willing to wait if necessary. She said there wasn't and assured me that no one was playing outside and that no one goes out that door because it was too cold. We took the rable, and it wasn't long after that the door was opened twice, back to back. This was a preview of what was to come. We may as well have been eating outside because of the traffic in and out. To make matters worse, most grown people don't have the sense to stay in or out, some even held the door open! For no reason! And yes, a guy was booked to play outside , guaranteeing the door to be open most of the time we were eating. To make matters worse, they burnt my nephew's steak. He asked for medium temp and got it very well done. My steak was a perfect medium rare, and the waitress was very good. Overall, this is a good restaurant, but I am unsure whether or not I will ever go back. As high as food costs now eating out, the owner should make sure that customers don't have to eat in the cold. read more

My husband and I along with another couple visiting us from out of town went to Big Mike's Steakhouse in Moundville last Saturday night (02-02-2024). We arrived around 7:15 pm. We were told it would be about an hour and twenty minute wait. We were okay with that as they had live music on the patio outside. We ordered drinks from the bar and happily listened to the music With all of the other people waiting for a table. An hour and a half passed and still no table. My husband went in to check and see what was going on. He was told they they were using a new system and it was causing problems. My husband noticed that there was quite a few empty but dirty tables. We actually would have left and gone elsewhere at this point but everyone has had a couple of drinks and no one wanted to drive, We live close enough that we walked to the restaurant. We continued to wait. Finally the band stopped playing and I told my husband that Big Mike's closed in 10 minutes at 10 pm. We all got up and went inside. The host again said something about this new system being the problem. He did not apologize or really seem to care that we had been waiting for two and a half hours for a table. He sat us at a table and we quickly realized out waitress was totally overwhelmed with a large party. Service therefore was not great. Food was just okay. Certainly not good enough to wait that long. We were so embarrassed that our company had to endure this horrible situation. It was our second time eating at this restaurant and likely our last. The place was almost empty by the time we were seated. There were plenty of empty tables. There were plenty of empty tables when I went to the restroom at 9 pm. This was clearly a result of very poor management. I refuse to patronize any establishment that clearly has such little regard for their customers. So my wife and I have always been a fan of Big Mike's Steakhouse. Tonight (12/17/22) I was here with my wife and my coworkers for our annual Christmas dinner, we waited over an hour and 45 minutes before we were seated. Once we were seated, we were met with one long table and a smaller table completely separated. There were 11 of us and still not enough seats. We asked if we could conjoin the tables because we all wanted to be together and enjoy each other's company outside of work- we were told that we were "not allowed to join tables" not given a reason why or some kind of information as to why we could not be together. We raised the issue that we had been waiting for so long even after seeing MULTIPLE larger parties leave and yet it was brushed off with a shrug and a sarcastic "sorry" by what looked like the manager. Wow, what a great meal! I had an entree that was amazing. I had the Sweet Water Stack. It had fried green tomatoes with crab cakes, a remoulade sauce and grilled shrimp. It was fantastic. The baked potato was a meal in itself. My wife had the chopped steak with a mushroom gravy. She really enjoyed it. Another person in our party had the rib-eye. He said it was fantastic. The food is certainly there. I had the big Mike Ribeye smothered and my wife had the filet with the suganooche topping. We were in a large group and the service was excellent. We got there at 4:30 and people were waiting. In this case the late bird gets the worm. Try going about 7:30 or 8. By the way, as good as the ribeye was my wife won with the filet and succhanoche (sp) topping. 3 adults and a child with alcohol and a good tip was $200. Closest Quality Ribeye to Ruth Chris or Three Forks in Dallas I have experienced. Great professional service as well as quick seating and service. Considering the state of most restaurants plagued by workforce challenges this place is succeeding in all areas.
