Despite a prior bad experience with a large party, this was the only restaurant that could accommodate us. Throughout the night, the service was absolutely horrible-- waiters spilled drinks on us, forgot to put our birthday cake in the refrigerator, forgot to bring out sauces that we requested, etc. The menu also wasn't updated online, and some items were not clearly identified. We had a few non-pork eaters that accidentally ordered dishes made with bacon because the menu did not specify. I think the worst part was the handling of a birthday cake that we brought in. First, we asked the staff to refrigerate the cake-- they never did. Second, they tipped the box over, so the cake was smudged all over the side. Third, they threw away the box so we couldn't box up the leftovers and had to roughly fit the remainder takeout boxes. I want to start with the good. The server was awesome. He served the entire restaurant by himself, was kind, and did it all with a smile on his face. Kudos to him! I can't say this enough but, steakhouses in hotels always let me down. The quality is never up to par as you can tell with the ratings here. My friend and I ordered drinks last night and they were delicious. We had cosmos and whiskey sours. The problem lies with the food. They were out of almost all their steaks. So by default I ordered my second choice which is a New York strip (I've eaten thousands of those). However, what I received was not a New York strip, they gave me was a delmonico ribeye which was more expensive and also in my opinion not as good. I told the guy who brought the steak that this isn't a strip and he says he also noticed that. So they were out of a lot and also serving wrong orders. I also never received my bernaise. They were out of everything but, the restaurant was empty and we were there too long waiting to eat. Additionally my Caesar salad was 0/10. Something about not using iceberg lettuce and using lettuce that doesn't uphold the sauce. Then some of the lettuce was brown and old. The meat and cheese board 0/10. Crostini was too hard. No fancy meats. Only 2 cheeses and a peach jam that really didn't match. read more

There was one other couple when we arrived and it took way too much thinking for us to get a booth. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. There were many menu items that were not available. She brought us the wrong appetizer. When she brought the meal, she failed to bring the butter, that cost extra by the way. The steaks were cooked correctly but mine and the wife's were both very dry and stringy, very tough. Flavor was just ok at best but no juice at all. While I still will not give the full five stars due to service being slow and our server never asking for our dinner orders until after wine and appetizers had already been served and us reminding her, I have to say the evening was still much better than the last visit. To start, I enjoyed the bread service this season. it was a simple light bread roll/loaf that melted wonderfully in your mouth. It was much better than the herbed bread with pimento cheese they had this spring (just a weird combo in my opinion). Also our wine order went down much better. We ordered one ourselves instead of going by recommendation. I had the special of the evening for my main meal and it was fantastic. It was pan-seared grouper with a cajun crawfish confetti and served over fingerling potatoes. The grouper was wonderfully cooked and seasoned, and paired very well with the confetti. Honestly the food is pretty good and the atmosphere is not too loud, easy to enjoy an evening together. Our server was attentive and respectful. My only complaint is that most everything we tried to order was sold out- guess we have good taste! The only bourbon out of stock is the one we wanted, the steak we wanted and the two sides we wanted were also not available. What we did finally settle on was good though. This review is for the Birmingham, AL location which is attached to The Westin. I'll preface this review by saying there was only one person in the kitchen, two servers, and the dishwasher in the back was broken. That being said, this was bar none the worst dining experience I've ever had. The hostess seemed irritated to seat us. When we asked for menus she said they were out of them (there were literally 6 tables when we came in, and they turned away everyone else who tried to come in after us). It took at least 20 minutes for the same hostess to come over and ask us out drink orders, and that was after I went over to ask her (and she acted like I was bothering her and told me they were very busy...again there were only six tables!!! Once we gave our food order, we waited over 30 minutes to get it. The steak was truly delicious and perfectly cooked. But I ordered a black and blue salad with dressing on the side. My salad came with soggy croutons and dressing (not even the type I ordered) on the salad. The "salad" consisted of four pieces of steak, onions, and romaine lettuce. And I was charged $20 with tax for this. My friend ordered sweet potato fries and her meal came with regular fries and a hard, stale bun. Once she asked about the fries, she was told they were out of the sweet potato fries. I was horribly disappointed and will never again dine here. read more

First, we were with a large group that had reservations. The good: My wife's Cacio e Pepe was delicious and arrived hot. The bad: They were out of bread. We arrived a 6:30 and waited over 90 mintes for our food to arrive. My pan-seared scallops arrived at room temperature. They probably would have still been hot had they been served 30-45 minutes earlier. They did quickly reheat them - tricky with scallops because they can get rubbery if overcooked. There were 6 small scallops, from nickel-sized to the 2 that were quarter-sized and 1/2 inch think. There were about 5 slivers of carrots. The checks didn't arrive until someone in our party went down and get them out of their chairs. Then there were mixups with the checks, and we were charged for 2 items that we didn't order or get served. It took another half hour or more to get a corrected check. Except for about 3 other tables, while we were there, the restaurant was quiet. Maybe the manager called in sick. I don't think we can go back. read more

So much to like about this restaurant; Location is great. Service is great. Atmosphere is very nice. Drinks/wine list is solid. The food however is... average. To me, the dinners, specifically the steaks, lack something. They are underwhelming. The size/cuts and cook to temp are good. The flavor is bland. Not bad but, lacking. Appetizers (oysters rockefeller, calamari) were cold.., that was surprising and disappointing. We've been here a few times. We've come back because of the positives above. Let me start with the positive- we went for UAB graduation and they were one of the restaurants that could accommodate our large party of 10 and there were a couple shout outs on menu items: rack of lamb, bbq shrimp, filet mignon and beet salad. Unfortunately, the negative outweighed the dining experience. The service was horrible. Our appetizers never got put in, the dinner took so long, even though the restaurant was half empty. Dirty dishes sat on table forever, there overall seemed to be a lack of busing at all tables. The bathrooms were quite dirty and waitstaff appeared to be standing around, when they could have pitched in more. Substituted a whiskey on the rocks with a splash of water, it came in crushed ice. We ordered two 8 oz filets, medium rare. One was over cooked, the other the waiter insisted on taking it back for me, as it was raw. They only had one desert and offered it for all the mistakes....a lava cake that had been microwaved leaving the carmel center cold and solid. Took two colleagues here for another try. I want to bump this up to four stars but just can't. First, service...the waiter is really pretty good...but because he was also tending bar, there was limited check in. Hostess seemed new and a little confused. We were provided with one menu, that was then taken back and given a smaller menu with fewer options...with the explanation that they were out of several things. That seems like a persistent problem from reading other comments. So then we order off the more limited menu...my choice the 10 ounce filet...nope they are out of that, too. I went with the Delmonico. The caesar salad was fair at best. Wimpy lettuce, nondescript dressing, and the parmesan was shredded parm from the grocery store. No bread service at all so my guests sat and watched me eat my salad while sipping water. The mains were quite good...the Delmonico was better than the filet last time, not so much salt. Why is the floor sticky? I noticed it last time, too, but forgot to mention in my review. So in summary, I really want to like this place, and I want to keep coming, but they've got to step it up a bit. This is a very expensive restaurant for Tuscaloosa, and I'm willing to pay for a quality experience, but they are just not quite pulling it off. Again, hate the credit card surcharge. This was my first time visiting RD Chophouse and it was a very interesting experience. I really enjoyed how the restaurant was set up for the holidays, the lighting, and the music that they were playing. Making a reservation for myself was super easy and I was a little early because I was so excited. Let me just say, everything is shareable but your drink. the portions are great. I started off with the fried green tomatoes and they were really good and savory. Great texture and taste. Being from the South, I'm use to my fried green tomatoes being sweet and savory; however, the savory on savory was a good taste. The steak that I chose was the Delmonico 14oz and man that thing was really big. Cooked medium and to perfection in the middle. I will say that it was a little too charred for me and lacked a little seasoning. (This is why I give the 4 star rating because I expected my steak to be like perfect in every way!) To go with the steak, I got creamed spinach and roasted garlic and gouda smashed potatoes. Again, these sides are definitely shareable. The sides were great and full of flavor and I really enjoyed those. I had dinner with a tequila sunriser. For dessert, I had the RD Chophouse Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce and it was so good. Very smooth and creamy and the caramel sauce was not too over powering. I paired this with a glass of moscato. The server that I had was really nice and friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff were nice, not a lot of wine knowledge but the kid was maybe 22 ‍my steak was okay, cooked a little too much but all 3 of ours were, so maybe the oven was hot, I don't know.
